Pepe: James Rodriguez an 'amazing' signing for Real Madrid

    439354_heroa.jpg

Pepe has heaped praise on Real Madrid for pulling off the "amazing" acquisition of James Rodriguez.

Los Blancos agreed to pay Monaco a staggering €80 million for the Colombia international - despite doubts over whether there is actually room within Carlo Ancelotti's star-studded starting line-up for an attacking midfielder.

However, Pepe has been watching James' development with interest ever since the No.10 joined his former club, Porto, and is in no doubt that the 23-year-old will prove a fantastic addition.

"He's a very talented player," the Portugal defender is quoted as saying by Marca. "I saw him when he played at Porto and he has a very good left foot.

"It's amazing that Madrid have signed such a great player."

Meanwhile, Pepe insisted that Cristiano Ronaldo will be fully fit for the start of the new season, even though his international and club team-mate has been troubled by thigh problems in recent months.

"Cristiano had time to relax and unwind with his family," the centre-half explained. "He's well and I think he'll be at his best."

Lazio seal deal for De Vrij

    436828_heroa.jpg

Lazio have confirmed the capture of "the best defender at the World Cup", Stefan de Vrij, from Feyenoord.

The 22-year-old started all seven of Netherlands' games in Brazil this summer and is now poised to complete a move from Rotterdam to Rome.

“Stefan De Vrij will arrive tonight [Monday] at Fiumicino airport and tomorrow morning [Tuesday] at 8am will undergo his medical at the Paideia clinic,” the Biancocelesti's director of communications Stefano De Martino told Lazio Style Radio.

“We welcome with joy the best defender at the World Cup. He is an international-level signing.”

Lazio have been looking to strengthen their defence this summer and were left disappointed after being pipped to the signing of Cagliari's Davide Astori by city rivals Roma.

However, they are now set to seal a reported €9 million deal for De Vrij, who had also been linked with Premier League outfit Manchester United.

    Monaco confirm Bakayoko signing

    439424_heroa.jpg

Monaco have confirmed the signing of Tiemoue Bakayoko from Stade Rennais for an undisclosed fee.

The 19-year-old established himself as one of the most promising young midfielders in Ligue 1 last season and Vadim Vasilyev is in no doubt that Les Rouges et Blancs have signed a player of enormous promise.

"We are delighted to be able to attract talented young French players with high potential like Tiemoue Bakayoko," the Monaco vice-president told the club's official website.

"He is part of our development and our strategy focused on building for the long term."

Meanwhile, Bakayoko, who has penned a five-year contract with Monaco, believes that he has chosen the perfect club with which to realise his potential.

"This is a first milestone in my career," the France Under-21 international enthused.

"I am proud to sign for AS Monaco, a club that's on the up. I'm grateful to the club's board for showing faith in me."

Ospina confident of winning trophies at Arsenal

    434824_heroa.jpg

New Arsenal signing David Ospina is confident the squad at Arsene Wenger's disposal is capable of challenging for honours this season.

The goalkeeper is the Frenchman's third signing of the close-season and joins Alexis Sanchez and Mathieu Debuchy through the door at the Emirates Stadium, with Calum Chambers arriving earlier on Monday.

With Arsenal ending their nine-year trophy drought last season with victory in the FA Cup, Ospina is confident he and his fellow new arrivals can bring further silverware to the club.

"I'm very confident. I believe we are putting together a brilliant squad, with top players," the 25-year-old told the club's official website.

"Now we all have to be fit for the manager, and I'm confident things will go well, during games and training.

"[Alexis and Debuchy] are great players; they have both been doing very well at club and international level. It is great for Arsenal that players of this quality have joined the squad."

Ospina was a regular during his time with Nice, where he made 189 appearances in Ligue 1 - having joined from Atletico Nacional in 2008.

He faces competition from last season's No.1 Wojciech Szczesny and Ospina is under no illusions as to the task he faces to play regularly in the Premier League.

"[Szczesny] is a great goalkeeper, very skilful. He has been a regular at a top side like Arsenal, so he is quality," the Colombian added.

"We also have the Argentine goalkeeper Damien Martinez. They are both young players but very experienced."

Allegri handed early return to AC Milan with Juventus

    438561_heroa.jpg

Former AC Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri has been handed a rapid return to San Siro with new club Juventus by the 2014-15 Serie A fixture list.

The 46-year-old trainer was sacked by the Rossoneri in January and replaced at the helm by Clarence Seedorf, who has since made way for Pippo Inzaghi.

Allegri was then handed the reins at Juventus following the shock resignation of Antonio Conte, who had led the Old Lady to three successive Serie A titles since taking charge in the summer of 2011.

The former Cagliari coach will begin his league campaign with the Bianconeri away to Chievo when the new Italian season gets underway on the last weekend in August.

Allegri will oversee his first home game against Udinese a fortnight later before returning to the Giuseppe Meazza for Juve's clash with Milan on the weekend of September 21.

As for Inzaghi's men, who have been struggling in pre-season, they will kick off their campaign against Lazio at San Siro.

Elsewhere, Inter will begin with a tricky trip to Torino, while last season's runners-up, Roma, also have a difficult opener, against Fiorentina.

Napoli, who finished third last term, will start their second season under the leadership of Rafael Benitez against Genoa.

Looking further ahead, the first Milan derby takes place in week 12, in November, while the first Derby d'Italia between Juventus and Inter is provisionally scheduled for Turin on January 6, seven days before city rivals Roma and Lazio lock horns at the Stadio Olimpico.

    Atletico Mineiro confirm Ronaldinho departure

    438258_heroa.jpg

Atletico Mineiro coach Levir Culpi has confirmed that Ronaldinho has parted company with the club.

The former Brazil international only signed a new deal with the Brasileiro Serie A side in January of this year - despite interest from Besiktas.

However, Ronaldinho and Atletico have now terminated the attacker's contract by mutual consent, with the former Ballon d'Or winner expected to announce his next destination at a press conference on Wednesday.

"I can't call on Ronaldinho anymore," Culpi told SporTV on Tuesday. "His cycle with us has ended.

"It's unfortunate because he's an idol to all of us. Everyone loves his football, the way he plays and he's a very charismatic person.

"But that's the way it goes. He's leaving and we must move on without him."

Ronaldinho joined Atletico in June 2012 after parting company with Flamengo and inspired the club to a first Copa Libertadores triumph the following year.

However, he is now being linked with a move to Boca Juniors, who are looking for a replacement for iconic No.10 Juan Roman Riquelme, though Fluminense and an as yet unidentified MLS side are also said to be interested in acquiring the ex-Barcelona star.

Newcastle weigh up ambitious Remy offer

    434841_heroa.jpg

Newcastle United are considering an ambitious move for Loic Remy after the collapse of the striker's move to Liverpool.

The France international had agreed an €10 million transfer to join the Anfield club before the deal fell through over the weekend.

Newcastle are unconcerned by reports that the deal was not completed because the attacker failed a medical and could move again for the 27-year-old, who spent last season on loan at St James's Park.

QPR boss Harry Redknapp has dismissed the suggestion that Remy's move to Liverpool collapsed because the Reds had doubts over the player's fitness.

"I just can't believe it," he told reporters on Monday. "I only know what I've seen and heard - I don't see how he failed a medical, he had a stringent medical here, one at [Olympique de] Marseille, one at Newcastle, one at France.

"It's not possible, you couldn't find a fitter lad than he is, there must be another reason. [Liverpool] must have changed their mind or gone in a different direction."

Newcastle have signed six players this summer in Daryl Janmaat, Remy Cabella, Siem de Jong, Jack Colback, Emmanuel Riviere and Ayoze Perez but the Magpies are eager to recruit another striker before the transfer window closes and could make a bid for Remy.

The Tyneside club had considered a bid to re-sign Andy Carroll from West Ham but an injury to the former Liverpool man ruled out a move.

Goal understands that Olympique Lyonnais striker Alexander Lacazette and Lorient forward Vincent Aboubakar are also being considered as potential options.

Swansea open to Bony exit amid Liverpool interest

    434485_heroa.jpg

Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins admits the club are open to selling Liverpool target Wilfried Bony this summer.

Earlier this month, Goal exclusively revealed that the Reds are ready to submit an improved offer of €19 million for the Ivorian, although the Swans are looking to hold out for a fee in the region of €24m.

Bony arrived at the Liberty Stadium in a €15m deal from Vitesse last July and scored 16 goals in 34 Premier League appearances in his debut campaign.

"Wilfried Bony is a fantastic guy to have around the club. He was a great professional with us last season and he’s the same now," Swansea chairman Jenkins told talkSPORT.

"If a club come in for him, a top Champions League club, and put the right offer on the table he knows full well we will speak to him about that.

"We are open like that. I think we have to be. As much as we want players to stay with us, we’ve also got to be realistic with where we’re at and try to make sure we continue to bring good players into the club."

Liverpool are looking to strengthen their attack following the loss of Luis Suarez to Barcelona and pulled out of their bid to sign Loic Remy from QPR over the weekend.

Fiorentina want €50m for Barcelona target Cuadrado

    423336_heroa.jpg

Fiorentina sporting director Daniele Prade has made it clear that the Serie A outfit have no intention of letting go of Juan Cuadrado for anything less than €50 million.

The Colombia international has been linked with Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester United after an impressive 2013-14 campaign, but his current employers are adamant that the winger will not come cheap.

"If an offer of €50 million were to come in, we would be willing to open talks. But there's no such offer as of yet," Prade told Sky Sports 24.

"We hope that Cuadrado will continue to play for Fiorentina. There has not been an official offer for him.

"We are in constant contact with the player and his agent. He will return to the club on August 4 or 5. We will then talk with him."

The versatile 26-year-old attacker has a contract with Fiorentina until the summer of 2017.

He started his professional career with Independiente Medellin and also wore the jerseys of Udinese and Lecce before joining the Artemio Franchi side in 2012.
