Falcao & Cavani? Forget it - Liverpool have no chance of finding Suarez replacement

    440992_heroa.jpg

Brendan Rodgers has continually insisted this summer that Liverpool will not hit the panic button in the transfer market.

He said it when Luis Suarez's transfer to Barcelona was confirmed and again when the Reds pulled the plug on Loic Remy's move to Anfield over a supposed problem with his medical.

Yet there are signs that the opposite might be the case behind closed doors at the Merseyside club.

In the last week, Liverpool have made attempts to sign Ligue 1 stars Radamel Falcao and Edinson Cavani.

Their ambition to even consider signing two of the most coveted strikers on the planet is commendable, but in reality they have no chance of signing either player.

Liverpool may have returned to the Champions League this season, but they have realised this week that it does not mean they can now shop in Harrods.

The signings they have made this season show very much that the Reds are still in the second tier when it comes to the transfer market.

    435524_heroa.jpg

All of the players who have arrived at Anfield would have done so regardless of their Champions League qualification, especially given Liverpool's global status and significant riches.

The pool of players in which Liverpool are shopping can strengthen the squad significantly as they prepare to fight on several fronts while mounting another title challenge after last season's second-placed finish.

But they won’t be able to replace Suarez.

Tottenham could not replace Gareth Bale, Arsenal could not replace Robin van Persie, and Liverpool will not be able to replace Suarez.

How can you? It was not just his 31 goals that made Suarez so electrifying last season. His leadership, flair, audacity and sheer will to win all need to be replaced, too.

Rodgers has been bullish when asked whether Liverpool risk repeating the considerable mistakes made by Tottenham when they sold Bale last summer.

"It's a different club and different vision we have here. At Liverpool there's a strategy behind what we are doing," he said.

The moves for Falcao and Cavani suggest, though, that the strategy includes buying a star name to replace the hole left by Suarez and to lead the attack.

Alexis Sanchez would have been perfect but he turned down Liverpool to move to Arsenal.

Now they are looking at audacious moves for players who are either out of their price range or beyond their pull of attraction. The whole world knows that, if Falcao leaves Monaco, his most likely destination is Real Madrid. It's unrealistic.

If Liverpool can land a big-name attacker, it will give them a huge boost ahead of the new campaign, but they are finding out just how hard it is to replace one-offs.

Official: Newcastle sign Lascelles & Darlow

    441557_heroa.jpg

Newcastle have completed the double signing of Jamaal Lascelles and Karl Darlow from Nottingham Forest, the club have announced.

The pair have signed for an undisclosed fee, believed to be in the region of €8 million and will be loaned back to the City Ground for the 2014-15 season.

The pair have put pen to paper on seven-year deals at St James' Park, much to the annoyance of Forest manager Stuart Pearce, who hit out at owner Fawaz Al Hasawi for agreeing to the deal without his approval.

Lascelles, who has been capped at Under-20 level for England, and Darlow had both been courted by a host of Premier League clubs, including Tottenham and Manchester City, and spoke of their delight at signing for the north east outift.

"As soon as I found out about the move I was over the moon," Lascelles told the Newcastle United official website.

"It's a huge step up for me. Newcastle are a club with a massive fanbase, a big history and an unbelievable stadium.

"First, I am going back to Forest for another season and that will be great for my development. Hopefully I can come here next summer an even better player."

Darlow, 23, also talked about his move, saying: "I'm delighted for it all to be sorted and I can't wait to get started here at Newcastle.

"The loan back is going to be another year but it gives me time to develop my game further before I return.

"I'm looking forward to the future."

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew had already described the pair as two "great assets" for the club when speaking to the press after his side's 2-2 draw with Huddersfield, and said he was delighted to get the deal over the line.

"It is a real coup to have signed two of the finest young talents in English football outside of the Premier League," said Pardew.

"Jamaal and Karl will be a big part of the future of this Club. They have both performed outstandingly in the Championship over the last couple of years and I have no doubt they will be able step up to this level once they return from their loan at Nottingham Forest."

Neuer 'hungry' to win more titles with Bayern Munich

    435086_heroa.jpg

Germany’s World Cup-winning goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has admitted he is “hungry and ambitious” to keep on winning titles with Bayern Munich next season.Neuer was awarded the Golden Glove prize after Germany lifted the World Cup with a 1-0 victory over Argentina in Brazil earlier this summer.

The Bayern Munich number one kept a clean sheet in the final at the Maracana and impressed in between the posts for Germany during the tournament.
With the 2014/15 Bundesliga starting on August 23, Neuer has revealed the thirst for more success has already kicked in.

"I am happy to be back. I am looking forward to the new challenges with Bayern and with the national team and the qualification for the European Championship,” Neuer told DFB-TV.“After a year in which we have won two titles with Bayern and became the World Cup Winners, I will stay hungry and ambitious.”

When asked about winning the World Cup, he said: "It's a great feeling. The memories from Brazil come back from time to time. You are happy to live through those things and you are very proud.

“You need some time to sit back let these things sink in. You are a World Cup Winner for life."Bayern have added to their goalkeeping ranks this summer after the club completed the signing of Liverpool number one Pepe Reina on a three-year deal on Friday.

Reina is likely to act as a back-up keeper to Neuer, but, the Germany international has welcomed the Spaniard’s arrival at the club."Everybody knows Pepe Reina. He is an experienced goalie who has performed well.

"I am looking forward to it, I want to get to know him and I am looking forward to work with him."

Busquets thrilled to wear Puyol's shirt

    440698_heroa.jpg

Sergio Busquets has spoken of his pride after Carles Puyol requested that the Barcelona midfielder be given his No.5 jersey.

Puyol ended his playing career this summer to take on a backroom role with the Catalan giants this summer, and left his shirt vacant after having worn it since taking the number from Abelardo Fernandez in 2002.

The former centre-back, 36, personally asked for Busquets – who has worn No.16 for much of his first-team career at Barca – to be given his shirt, something the midfielder has admitted he was “thrilled” about.

“I talked to him [Puyol] and he intended to give me the number [five shirt after retiring]. I was thrilled and I did not hesitate for a second,” Busquets told a press conference ahead of Barcelona’s pre-season friendly against HJK Helsinki in Finland."I am very happy, it's something that has come through the confidence of my peers,” he said.

“I've learned a lot from Puyol and [Victor] Valdes. Being captain means being aware of everything, being a good partner, but above all, being natural and being yourself,” he added. The holding midfielder was also asked about the potential arrival of Arsenal centre-back Thomas Vermaelen to the club this summer but Busquets refused to speak about “something that is not confirmed".

Barcelona will take on HJK Helsinki on Saturday before playing Leon FC in their final pre-season friendly ahead of the 2014/15 La Liga season, which kicks off on 23 August.

Oxlade-Chamberlain: Arsenal targeting title and FA Cup

    443111_heroa.jpg

Arsenal winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has revealed the Gunners are targeting a Premier League and FA Cup double this season.Arsene Wenger's men ended a nine-year trophy drought by claiming the FA Cup with an extra-time win over Hull City in May.

That success has given Arsenal confidence, and Oxlade-Chamberlain said the players were eager to build on the win."We all believed it would happen soon," he said."It was a reward for the hard work and togetherness we've had to show. It does start a winning momentum.

"Once you know you can win a competition like that, it gives you confidence.
"It's really exciting to see someone like Alexis Sanchez come in and our World Cup winners will come back and give us another lift. These are exciting times.
"It makes you want to strive for more. I've set myself the same goals we all would, which is to win the Premier League, the FA Cup and try to do really well and win the Champions League."

Oxlade-Chamberlain, who played no part in England's failed World Cup campaign, said his focus was on Sunday's FA Community Shield clash against Manchester City.He praised Arsenal's signings – including the likes of Sanchez, Mathieu Debuchy, David Ospina and Calum Chambers – for adding competition for places.

"Obviously it's going to be tough for everyone to get in the team this season, and that can only be a good thing."

Falcao's father refuses to rule out Real Madrid move

    442086_heroa.jpg

Radamel Falcao’s father has played down reports his son will leave Monaco for Real Madrid but did not rule out the striker departing France this summer.

The Colombia international has been linked with a big-money move away from the Ligue 1 side, despite signing a five-year deal upon completing a €60 million switch from Porto last summer.

Monaco recently insisted their prized asset - who has just returned from a cruciate knee ligament injury - would not be leaving the club, but Falcao's father left the door open to a transfer.“I’m not saying he [Falcao] will leave. I’m only saying that he has a contract with Monaco,” Radamel Garcia told Cadena Cope.“My son has never told me that he wants to go from Monaco, but, with him I don’t talk about football.

“My son has a contract for four years [at Monaco] and he is serving it.
When asked about Falcao potentially playing under Carlo Ancelotti at the Santiago Bernabeu next year, Garcia added: “If my child ought to play or not [at Real], depends on Ancelotti.”Falcao, 28, made his long-awaited return from injury when Monaco played out a 2-2 draw with Valencia in the Emirates Cup in London last week.

The Colombia international missed his nation’s World Cup campaign in Brazil this summer after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury in his left knee in January.

Arbeloa apologises for Casillas Twitter gaffe

    440626_heroa.jpg

Alvaro Arbeloa has apologised to Real Madrid captain Iker Casillas after the defender retweeted a message criticising the goalkeeper.Arbeloa reposted a link on the social media site to a book that called Casillas “a tumour on Real Madrid".

Casillas had previously liked an Instagram post in which a fan had criticised fellow Real goalkeeper Diego Lopez and had also alluded to Arbeloa’s lack of pace when the former Liverpool right-back was called a “cone”.

With the social media war between the players seemingly beginning to escalate, Arbeloa has now explained his actions as being a misunderstanding.
“I made the mistake of retweeting the guide without having read all 98 pages word for word,” Arbeloa said.“Never in my life have I spoken badly about a team-mate, and in this instance, I had no intention to do so through an intermediary.

“I apologise to my team-mate and captain Iker Casillas, and all fans of Real Madrid who may have been offended.”Arbeloa last year admitted that he and Casillas did not agree about former Real coach Jose Mourinho, which had led to their relationship having become strained.

While the defender was a staunch supporter of the Portuguese tactician, Casillas had a public falling out with Mourinho and failed to play in the final few months of the coach’s reign at the Santiago Bernabeu.

    Eto'o in Ajax talks

    430783_heroa.jpg

Ajax director Marc Overmars has confirmed the club is in talks with former Chelsea forward Samuel Eto'o.Eto'o and his agent were reported to have met club officials in Paris on Friday to thrash out a deal after the striker was released by Chelsea recently.

The Cameroon international was believed to have wanted to stay in England and had been in talks with a number of Premier League clubs including West Ham, QPR and Sunderland.

The Black Cats were leading the race to sign Eto'o after the player's wage demands had put off QPR and the 33-year-old had rejected a move to The Hammers. However, Overmars has now confirmed that Eto’o is nearing a move to Ajax in the coming weeks.

"Samuel seemed very hungry to play for Ajax. He is fit and has a great drive to succeed once again," Overmars told Voetbal International."We don't want to block the growing process of our talents like [Arkadiusz] Milik and [Richairo] Zivkovic, but if it is possible to sign a world class player like Eto'o, then why not? It will be fantastic."

Eto’o scored 12 goals in all competitions for Chelsea last season - all coming at Stamford Bridge - but the Blues opted not to extend his one-year deal, which left the player looking for a new club.

Arsenal must concede fewer against title rivals, admits Wenger

    436791_heroa.jpg

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admits that his side must concede fewer goals against their Premier League title rivals.

The Gunners' quest for top-flight glory is entering its 11th season after finishing fourth in 2013-14, five points adrift of champions Manchester City, and the north Londoners let in a total of 41 goals throughout the campaign - the fourth-best defensive record behind Chelsea (27), City (37) and Everton (39).

Of the 41 goals shipped, 17 of those came against City, Liverpool and Chelsea - including six in one game against Manuel Pellegrini's side in December - and Wenger is aware that Arsenal can ill afford to do the same this season as they aim to win the Premier League for the first time since 2004.

"I was concerned [by Arsenal's record against the top four last term]," he told the press. "I was concerned and shocked by the number of goals that we conceded.

"Of course we were Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde defensively. We had 18 clean sheets but when we did not keep a clean sheet we let them score.

"I think it was down to confidence. Overall we were quite sound defensively but we have a good opportunity to improve that."

Arsenal's run of routs against top-tour teams kicked off against City, when they were trounced 6-3 at the Etihad Stadium in December. That result was followed by a 5-1 loss at Anfield in February and a 6-0 humiliation to Chelsea in March as the Gunners slipped down the table.

However, the Frenchman feels that scoreline against City was misleading as the two teems prepare to meet again in Sunday's FA Community Shield showdown at Wembley.

"Honestly, [the Man City game was] not so much damaging because we finished with 10 men and, when we looked at the game again, we had six or seven chances to score," he argued. "I took a gamble at 10 against 11, like I always do, to have a chance to come back but, when you look at the chances we missed, that was not a damaging [result].

"For us what was damaging was the two games at Liverpool and at Chelsea."

    AC Milan reveal Lopez agreement

    442231_heroa.jpg

Real Madrid goalkeeper Diego Lopez is set to join AC Milan after agreeing personal terms with the club. The Twitter account of Milan's official television channel revealed the news with a message welcoming the keeper on Saturday morning.

The Serie A side's CEO and vice-president, Adriano Galliani, also confirmed the news to fans on Saturday."Diego Lopez to Milan is a done deal at 99%," he is quoted as saying by Italian publication Gazetta dello Sport.

Lopez is expected to undergo a medical on Monday before signing a four-year contract with the San Siro outfit in a deal that will see the 32-year-old earn about €2.5million per season.

The transfer comes just days after the Spaniard - who was also being tracked by Napoli and Liverpool - reportedly told Real directors that he believed he was the best goalkeeper currently at the club.

Lopez arrived at Real midway through the 2012/13 season from Sevilla after being signed by the side's former coach, Jose Mourinho, when first-choice keeper Iker Casillas suffered an injury. The 32-year-old held onto his place in between the posts for for the rest of the campaign, despite Casillas recovering from his injury, before Lopez shared the responsibilities with the club captain last season.

Lopez then rejected a move to Ligue 1 outfit Monaco last summer to stay in Madrid and fight for his place but, following the arrival of Costa Rica star Keylor Navas from Levante this summer, Lopez has been forced to move on.

Lopez came up through Madrid's youth system but joined Villarreal in 2007 - where he was named the best new goalkeeper one year later - before moving to Sevilla in 2012.

    Fiorentina prepared to sell Cuadrado

    438226_heroa.jpg

Fiorentina president Andrea Della Valle has admitted he may have to allow Juan Cuadrado leave the club after the Colombia winger received "important offers".

Cuadrado, 26, has been linked with a move to Manchester United and Barcelona in the coming weeks after impressing with his nation at the World Cup in Brazil this summer. And despite his best efforts to try and change the player's mind, Della Valle fears he has lost his battle to keep him in Florence."I spoke with Cuadrado and I have presented our project [to him],” Della Valle told Italian publication La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I told him to stay another year in the team with a winning project. But, I am not optimistic because he has received important offers and we may have to let him go.”When asked if a deal with a prospective club was close, Della Valle said: "We'll see what happens over the next week.

“The boy had a good reaction. We spoke discreetly. It was a clear negotiation with the player. The World Cup that he played in [with Colombia] has not helped.”He added: “Juan is a very discreet guy and honest.”

Della Valle confirmed that Cuadrado’s future would be sorted within “a maximum of two weeks” with the 26-year-old's transfer fee in any prospective deal expected to be between €40 million and €50 million.

His current deal with Fiorentina runs until June 2017.

Daley Blind: It would be very hard to turn down Manchester United or Barcelona

    442805_heroa.jpg

Ajax star Daley Blind has confessed that he would find it very hard to reject Manchester United or Barcelona were they to table an offer for his services.

The 24-year-old, who finished 36th in the 2014 Goal 50, has been continually associated with the English and Spanish giants this summer after a magnificent season in which he won the Eredivisie title and helped lead Netherlands to third place at the World Cup.

"Of course, it's flattering when you're linked with clubs like Manchester United and Barcelona," Blind told Goal.

"It would be very hard to turn down these kind of clubs. But there's no serious interest as of yet.

"You can never make promises in football. When you make a promise, you have to stick to it. There are plenty of players who promise to stay and then leave after all. I am keeping my options open. I am very happy in Amsterdam and at Ajax, but you never know what could happen."

    442932_heroa.jpg

Blind has been most heavily linked with Man Utd due to the presence of Louis van Gaal, who was instrumental in his emergence with Holland.

But the ex-Groningen man is in no rush to leave Amsterdam and feels that La Liga may suit him more than the physical Premier League.

“I am still developing as a player. I am only 24-years-old, so I hope that there's still room for improvement," Blind explained.

“La Liga would suit my style of play. Perhaps England as well, but that's a very physical competition and that's not my biggest strength. I have made steps forward physically, but fighting out personal duels is not my thing. I am not like Jan Vertonghen, who is very powerful.

"The most important thing for me at a new club is that they play proper football. I would be more open to a club that plays proper football than to a club that only hits long balls.”

Blind has gained a reputation as one of the game's most versatile players, having occupied numerous positions in defence and midfield for both club and country in recent times.

“Each player finds himself in a different position. Some players have been regulars since their 18th birthday. I only became a regular at a later age," he noted.

"I wanted to develop here at Ajax first and then wanted to win the Eredivisie title. I have done that four times now. I have not felt for a second that I'm done learning here or that I've had enough of Ajax. I still don't have that feeling."

Many youngsters in the Eredivisie depart the league prior to their 21st birthday, but Blind feels that sometimes it is wiser to remain a little longer in order to mature.

"I think it's a personal decision each player has to take," he said.

"Of course, it could be very tempting if I were to get an offer from a foreign club. But you can learn a lot in the Eredivisie as a player. Ajax often hold their own in the big games in Europe. I would advise youngsters to stick around a bit longer at a club like Ajax.

"A number of players have left Feyenoord for a move abroad, but that opens the door for new youngsters. It's always been like this and will always stay like this."

Vermaelen flies in for Barcelona medical

    442743_heroa.jpg

Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen is in Spain to undergo a medical and complete his €19 million move to Barcelona.

The Blaugrana agreed a deal for the Belgium international with the Gunners on Friday, with the centre-half snubbing interest from Manchester United to seal a switch to La Liga.

Arsene Wenger had previously admitted that he would rather sell the 28-year-old to a foreign club rather than a domestic rival and, after being given a straight choice between Old Trafford and Camp Nou, Vermaelen plumped for Catalunya.

United had long been on Vermaelen's tail, with talk of their interest first emerging during the World Cup.

New boss Louis van Gaal is on the look-out for ball-playing centre-backs to fit into his 3-5-2 system and had sanctioned a move for the former Arsenal captain, who has fallen down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium.

Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny have forged an impressive central defensive partnership for the Gunners over the past 18 months, limiting Vermaelen to a supporting role.

Arsenal have signed Calum Chambers from Southampton this summer and the 19-year-old could now be installed as third-choice centre-back at the Emirates if no new faces arrive before the close of the transfer window.

Pellegrini: I have no trophy target at Manchester City

    409005_heroa.jpg

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has dismissed the club's stated target of winning five trophies in five years.

City chief executive Ferran Soriano revealed in May 2013 that he wanted the club to win an average of one major trophy - meaning the Champions League, the Premier League or the FA Cup - per season up to 2018.

Pellegrini - appointed as successor to Roberto Mancini in the same month - made a strong start towards achieving that goal by securing the Premier League title and the Capital One Cup in his maiden season at the Etihad Stadium.

City are likely to face a stern challenge if they are to enjoy further success in the upcoming campaign, with Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United all having strengthened their squads in the recent weeks.

However, speaking ahead of Sunday's Community Shield clash with Arsene Wenger's FA Cup winners, Pellegrini stressed that he is not concerned with any sort of trophy target.

When asked about Soriano's comments Pellegrini said: "I don't have a target to win five titles.

"Every time I play a competition, I want to win it. But that thing that we have to win five titles in five years - for me it is not important.

"We will play in the four competitions we must play in and we will try to continue in all competitions as far as we can. Exactly the same as last year.

"We continue trying to win the Premier League, the FA Cup, the Capital One Cup and the Champions League, and we will see during the season what we can do."

Cheick Tiote has backed Newcastle United to finish in the Premier League's top five this season. The Magpies made a strong start to the 2013-14 campaign before falling away after the turn of the year, ending up in 10th.

However, manager Alan Pardew has added the likes of Remy Cabella, Emmanuel Riviere and Siem de Jong to his squad in the close-season, and Tiote is hopeful the trio can help Newcastle make a more sustained challenge for European football this time around."I know some of the new boys from when I've watched the French league like Remy Cabella, Manu Riviere and also Siem de Jong from Ajax," he is quoted as saying by the Northern Echo .

"I've played against him before so I know what he is capable of."They are good signings for the club and hopefully they are going to do well for us this season."I think there could be more players, but at the moment I think the squad looks better than last season that's for sure.

"We have had the opportunity to bring in some new players and we could bring in more, but I definitely think we are stronger."Newcastle last made the top five in the 2011-12 season and Tiote is confident of repeating that feat."We will try to win every game and finish near the top," he added.

"You never know with the Premier League. You can't say we will finish third, fourth, fifth or sixth, because it's really tough, but I think for us it's important to be ready for the start of the season and try to win every game like we did two years ago when we finished fifth."The more games we win the better chance we will have of finishing in the top five rather than the top 10.

"I think it’s possible this squad can repeat the fifth place from two years ago, because we've got the players and have brought in some real quality. We just have to work hard, because it's not easy to finish there in the Premier League."Newcastle kick off their Premier League campaign against champions Manchester City next weekend.

:cool:Phil Neville: Van Gaal can win title for Manchester United after Moyes 'disaster'

    436245_heroa.jpg

Phil Neville has accepted his share of responsibility for Manchester United's disastrous 2013-14 Premier League campaign under former boss David Moyes but expects the club to bounce back and win the title under new coach Louis van Gaal.Neville, who confirmed midweek he would not be working at Old Trafford in 2014-15, was on Moyes's coaching staff as United finished seventh in the standings - 22 points adrift of champions and arch-rivals Manchester City.

Moyes paid the ultimate price for United's failure after he was sacked in May but Neville said the Scot was not the only man at fault for the club's poor performances."I was involved last year and last year was an absolute disaster," he said."It was an absolute disaster from start to finish we must all take responsibility, not just David Moyes. I take responsibility and so does everyone involved."

Van Gaal has since taken charge, guiding the club to five consecutive pre-season wins on their tour of the United States and Neville believes the former Netherlands boss can win the league in his first season at the helm."I think we're going to win the league. I'm sure that's what Louis van Gaal will be saying to the players because second isn't any good at Manchester United," he added.

"For United, it's finishing top, as Premier League champions. It's about regrouping and all the lads have come back for pre-season and they look like they're ready to win the league again."We've got a great chance this year because there's no European football so we can concentrate solely on the league.

"And from what I saw in pre-season and the support we had, the club keeps getting bigger and bigger, and I think we're on the right road again."

HJK Helsinki 0-6 Barcelona: El Haddadi at the double as Catalans crush Finnish foes

Barcelona bounced back from their 1-0 friendly defeat to Napoli by routing HJK Helsinki 6-0 on Saturday afternoon.

The game was over by the break, with Munir El Haddadi helping himself to a double and Sergi Roberto and Gerard Pique bagging one goal apiece.

Marc Bartra added a fifth just after the break and Sandro Ramirez put the seal on a resounding pre-season win by netting with eight minutes to go.

Munir's performance will really have caught Luis Enrique's eye as the coach looks to mastermind an upturn in fortunes for Barca following last season's disappointments. Barca meet Leon in their final pre-season friendly a week on Monday before kicking off their Liga campaign with a home tie against Elche.

Starting with an XI comprised entirely of La Masia graduates, Barca made a roaring start, El Haddadi volleying across HJK goalkeeper Michael Tornes after a superb scooped pass from Andres Iniesta.

As the hosts struggled in front of a healthy Sonera Stadium crowd, El Haddadi again showed his class, releasing Roberto with a neat one-two and seeing the midfielder calmly slot home.

El Haddadi headed Rafinha's cross in via Tornes' right-hand post for his second of the afternoon and when Pedro worked the ball into Pique to tuck home, Luis Enrique's side looked on for a big score.

The remainder of the first half passed by sedately, but Barca emerged revitalised after the break and Bartra headed half-time substitute Ivan Rakitic's free-kick
beyond replacement HJK keeper Carljohan Eriksson.

Pedro was unfortunate to see his dipping 30-yard volley clip the crossbar on its way over as Barca sought a sixth. It eventually arrived in the 81st minute as Sandro latched onto Rakitic's measured throughball and lashed a fine strike across Eriksson.

Sandro came close soon after, but his shot drifted wide as Barca came through unscathed and added another impressive showing to their pre-season preparations.
