Ancelotti: I can't expect James to be like Di Maria

    462786_heroa.jpg

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti says he cannot expect James Rodriguez to play like Angel Di Maria did when he was at the club.Di Maria left the Spanish capital in the summer to join Manchester United for €75 million, while Rodriguez came in from Monaco for €81m.

But Ancelotti says it is unfair to expect the Colombia international to fulfil the same role."James is not Di Maria," the 55-year-old told reporters. "He is a different player with different qualities.

"I'm going to use him for that reason, not because I expect the same from him."Both players have different technical characteristics. I'm happy with him and he is focused on the job he has to do. He's doing well and will get better," he added.

The midfielder was rested for the Blancos' last game, a 2-1 win over Ludogorets in the Champions League, but Ancelotti confirmed that he will star in their next fixture - in La Liga against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday.

Klopp: Blame me for Dortmund's poor start

    456880_heroa.jpg

Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp says he is responsible for his side's continuing poor form in the Bundesliga.

Last season's runners-up lost 1-0 at home to Hamburg on Saturday, meaning the club now have only seven points from as many games.

And the 47-year-old says he has to shoulder the blame for his team's performances."With all our ambitions and goals, that [performance] was well short," Klopp said on Dortmund's official website.

"I put the blame on myself. I am responsible for the preparation and adjustment of the players."We are left with seven points. We currently do not look confident going forward."Hamburg's trainer Joe Zinnbauer, meanwhile, was delighted with his side's showing.

"We are happy and satisfied," said the 44-year-old."Nobody could have expected three points. It is insanely nice for the team," he added.

:love::love:Manchester United 2-1 Everton: Falcao poaches three points for Van Gaal

    465181_heroa.jpg

Manchester United secured consecutive Premier League wins for the first time this season as they beat Everton 2-1 at Old Trafford.

Angel Di Maria curled home the opening goal from the edge of the box midway through the first half but the Red Devils had to survive multiple scares, with Luke Shaw conceding a penalty just before half-time by bringing down Tony Hibbert.

David de Gea saved Leighton Baines's attempt from the spot but Everton struck back in the 55th minute through a brilliant headed goal by Steven Naismith, assisted by the left-back.

But Radamel Falcao stepped up shortly afterwards to prod home his first United goal, which proved enough to give Louis van Gaal's side the points after De Gea made some outstanding late saves to preserve them.

The result was a huge boost to United ahead of a two-week international break, during which Van Gaal will hope that some of his injured players – including Shaw, following his 70th-minute withdrawal – will regain full fitness. Defeat for Everton, meanwhile, extends their winless streak to five games in all competitions.

Juan Mata deputised for the suspended Wayne Rooney, with Robin van Persie taking the captain's armband, and Antonio Valencia came in for injured midfielder Ander Herrera. Everton made two alterations from their 1-1 draw at Liverpool, Steven Pienaar and Aiden McGeady replacing Kevin Mirallas and James McCarthy.

United began confidently in attack, Falcao forcing an early save from Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard with a diving header from Shaw's cross. Van Persie was next to threaten when turning an effort just over following a powerful Di Maria centre.

The hosts continued to look the more dangerous, even if Everton were enjoying the lion's share of possession.

Roberto Martinez's side found themselves behind in the 27th minute, Di Maria continuing his fine form since moving to Old Trafford from Real Madrid in August. After Phil Jagielka had brilliantly hooked Rafael's cross clear, the ball fell to Mata, who squared for the Argentina international to curl beyond Howard.

Howard was called into action again soon after, turning Di Maria's deflected free kick over the crossbar.

United were fortunate to head into the break ahead, though, with De Gea denying Baines from the penalty spot in first-half stoppage time after Shaw had felled Tony Hibbert.

Van Gaal's men were pegged back in the 55th minute when Naismith met Baines's superb cross with a clever diving header to haul the sides level.

Suddenly in the ascendancy, Everton pressed forward further, with Jagielka seeing a header cleared off the line after meeting Baines's corner, but United found a response, Falcao producing a smart finish to convert Di Maria's effort.

Nervy moments followed for the home side, De Gea denying Leon Osman with a stunning one-handed stop.

De Gea's heroics did not end there, the Spaniard once more producing a stunning save to turn over Bryan Oviedo's volley after Tyler Blackett had superbly blocked Gareth Barry's strike.

Chelsea 2-0 Arsenal: Hazard & Costa make easy work of lacklustre Gunners

    465092_heroa.jpg

Chelsea continued their fine record against Arsenal with a hard-fought 2-0 Premier League win that was more than a little ill-tempered.

Eden Hazard scored the opener from the penalty spot in the first half after Laurent Koscielny fouled him in the box, his cool spot kick sending Wojciech Szczesny in the wrong direction.

Playing against the Gunners for the first time since joining Chelsea this summer, Cesc Fabregas provided a delightful assist for the second goal as, with just over 10 minutes of normal time left, he lifted the ball over Arsenal's defence for Diego Costa to chase and finish with aplomb - the striker's ninth goal in seven league games this season.

Chelsea moved five points clear of nearest rivals Manchester City at the top of the table - the only downside of the game for them an injury to first-choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who was forced off after suffering a nasty blow to the head in an early collision with Alexis Sanchez.

The defeat saw Arsenal's unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign brought to an end, as Arsene Wenger's men fell nine points behind their London neighbours after just seven matches.

Both sides made one change following their exploits in the Champions League in midweek, as Cesar Azpilicueta returned at left-back for Chelsea in place of Filipe Luis and Jack Wilshere came in for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for the visitors.

After a 15-minute delay to kick-off, reportedly due to a number of flares being let off outside the ground, there was a moment of concern for Chelsea in the 10th minute as Courtois collided with Alexis. The Belgium international was able to get to his feet and resume action but he was clearly still shaken from the clash and had to be withdrawn in the 24th minute as Petr Cech entered the fray.

With little happening on the field, the opening stages were also notable for an argument on the touchline as Cahill's heavy challenge on Alexis provoked an irate response from Wenger, who pushed Jose Mourinho in the chest.

The Portuguese gestured for Wenger to return to his technical area before Atkinson called both managers over in an attempt to calm matters.

Finally, after 27 minutes, a moment of magic from Hazard led to Chelsea breaking the deadlock. The Belgian drifted beyond Santi Cazorla and Chambers, before being upended by Koscielny's trip inside the box and Hazard, who scored a penalty in the 6-0 rout last season, calmly sent Wojciech Szczesny the wrong way from the spot.

Wilshere's poor touch then allowed Cech to gather as Arsenal went in search of an immediate equaliser.

Chelsea almost doubled their lead shortly before the hour when Hazard's driven cross deflected off Mathieu Flamini and then the arm of Szczesny before Arsenal felt that they should have had a penalty when Wilshere's effort hit the arm of Fabregas, although it was unclear whether or not the incident had occurred inside the box.

Hazard ought to have netted his and Chelsea's second when he fired off target from close range 14 minutes from time but, soon afterwards, Costa made the game safe. He ran onto Fabregas's pass and lobbed a deft finish over the advancing Szczesny.

Danny Welbeck was perhaps lucky to only receive a yellow card for a two-footed lunge on Fabregas in stoppage time as Arsenal desperately chased the game but Chelsea comfortably held on to secure maximum points.

Juventus 3-2 Roma: Bonucci stunner snatches late victory

    465221_heroa.jpg

Leonardo Bonucci's 86th minute stunner saw Juventus snatch a thrilling victory as they beat Roma 3-2 in a contest that also saw Alvaro Morata and Konstantinos Manolas sent off late on.

A top-of-the-table clash between two teams boasting five league wins from five promised much and there was certainly no shortage of drama at Juventus Stadium on Sunday, with referee Gianluca Rocchi awarding three penalties - two to Juve and one to Roma - in a first half that ended 2-2.

It appeared as though both teams would have to settle for a point apiece, but Bonucci then found the net in magnificent fashion with four minutes of normal time remaining, volleying past Lukasz Skorupski from 20 yards to break Roma hearts.
Juve substitute Morata and Roma defender Manolas were dismissed in the closing stages as Rocchi once again found himself at the centre of the action, but the reigning champions were able to hold on and claim a fifth successive home win against the capital club.

Carlos Tevez twice scored from 12 yards in the first half following contentious decisions from Rocchi, who also sent Roma coach Rudi Garcia to the stands, but the Argentine forward's two penalties sandwiched a Francesco Totti spot-kick and Juan Iturbe's 44th-minute strike for the visitors. The second half initially provided fewer incidents of note, only to come to life in the closing stages.

Morata headed against the crossbar prior to Bonucci's late winner and was then sent off together with Manolas as tempers flared.Juve, who named Andrea Pirlo in their XI for the first time this season after his recovery from a hip injury, had early claims for a penalty dismissed when Claudio Marchisio went to ground under a challenge from Manolas.

A penalty did come Juve’s way in the 26th minute, albeit in somewhat controversial circumstances. Rocchi appeared to originally award a freekick when ruling that Maicon had handled Pirlo's set-piece, before changing his mind and pointing to the spot.

The decision prompted fierce protests from Roma, with Garcia sent to the stands, but Tevez kept his nerve after the commotion had ended to send Skorupski the wrong way.Roma drew level five minutes later, after Rocchi had given another penalty as a result of Stephan Lichtsteiner hauling Totti to ground off the ball.

The Roma captain put his spot-kick in the bottom-right corner, ensuring Juve conceded their first league goal of the campaign.Life got better for the visitors a minute before half-time when Roma caught Juve cold with a free-flowing move that finished with Gervinho's reverse pass finding Iturbe, whose low drive beat Gianluigi Buffon at his near post.

Martin Caceres then pulled up with a hamstring injury for Juve, but they were level at the break following another debatable call from Rocchi.

The official judged that Miralem Pjanic had tripped Paul Pogba in the area, although there appeared minimal contact and the incident may have taken place outside the box.Tevez once again showed unerring calm, placing his second penalty of the match into the bottom left-hand corner.

Juve started the second half with more attacking intent, but Pjanic wasted a gilt-edged chance on the hour mark when he dragged wide from just close-range after good work from Gervinho.Morata then saw a header cannon against the crossbar, but Juventus went on to clinch the points in superb style.

A Juve corner was cleared to the edge of the area and Bonucci let fly with an unstoppable volley that flew into the bottom left-hand corner, though Roma will rightly feel aggrieved that Arturo Vidal - standing in front of Skorupski in an offside position - was not penalised.

Frustrations then boiled over in an ill-tempered finish. Manolas reacted angrily to a stern Morata challenge, leading to a melee and red cards for both players.

Sevilla 4-1 Deportivo: M’Bia blasts Andalusians up to third

    465002_heroa.jpg

Stephane M'Bia struck twice to fire Sevilla to a 4-1 win over a lacklustre Deportivo La Coruna on Sunday.Carlos Bacca and Vitolo also got in the act, ensuring Haris Medunjanin’s first-half equaliser would prove nothing more than a consolation.

The hosts came into the match on the back of a 4-0 Liga defeat to Atletico Madrid and 2-2 draw with Croatian outfit HNK Rijeka in the Europa League.

M’Bia got his side off to the perfect start on 28 minutes, evading his marker Alberto Lobo to head Gerard Deulofeu’s corner inside German Lux’s near post.
Medunjanin pulled Depor level just seven minutes later, expertly curling his free-kick into the corner of Beto’s net, leaving the Sevilla goalkeeper a spectator.
Sevilla almost reclaimed the lead inside two minutes, but a neat corner routine ended with Benoit Tremoulinas seeing his shot rebound back off the crossbar.

Unai Emery’s side wouldn’t have to wait much longer, however, as Deulofeu was once again the creator, this time lofting a deft pass over the top for Bacca to convert.M’Bia doubled their lead shortly before the hour mark after some fine work from Vitolo, who got to the byline and pulled it back for the Frenchman to slam home his second with the help of the post.

Vitolo himself rounded off the victory, with Deulofeu completing a hat-trick of assists. The on-loan Barcelona star initially looked to have been halted by Alex Bergantinos, but got back to his feet in time to slide a pass to his right for Vitolo to unleash a stunning strike into the top corner.

The victory takes Sevilla up to third in the Liga table, leaving them one point behind second-placed Valencia after seven games.

Tottenham 1-0 Southampton: Eriksen provides Pochettino with perfect Saints reunion

    465061_heroa.jpg

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino secured a welcome 1-0 Premier League victory over his former club, Southampton, as Christian Eriksen scored the decisive goal at White Hart Lane.

The Denmark international finished cleverly at the near post after being set up by Nacer Chadli five minutes before half-time but the game was not entirely plain sailing for the hosts.

The Saints had chances to even it up, Hugo Lloris reacting brilliantly to keep out Victor Wanyama's effort on 65 minutes before Sadio Mane missed a late sitter, but by and large the north Londoners were the better team and saw out the victory.

Although Tottenham made 10 alterations to the side who drew 1-1 with Besiktas in the Europa League on Thursday, both teams were unchanged from their last Premier League outings.

It was the hosts who applied the early pressure but Southampton went closest to snatching an early lead – Mane's shot deflected wide by Kyle Naughton after a dangerous Graziano Pelle cross from the right.

Both goalkeepers remained unchallenged until the 25th minute, when Erik Lamela's effort from 20 yards was tipped wide by Fraser Forster with the ball looking destined for the bottom-right corner.

A reckless tackle from Ryan Bertrand saw Naughton requiring lengthy treatment on the half-hour mark. The challenge went unpunished but Naughton's match came to a premature end, with Eric Dier brought on in his place.

Forster did just enough to push an Eriksen strike wide of his left-hand post in the 36th minute, but he was helpless when the former Ajax man tried his luck with a shot to the keeper's right four minutes later. Eriksen's driven effort from the edge of the penalty area fizzed just out of the reach of the England international and Chadli then hit the post after being sent through on goal by Emmanuel Adebayor.

Hugo Lloris had to wait until first-half stoppage time to make his first meaningful save – the Frenchman diving to his left to gather a deflected Dusan Tadic free kick.

Younes Kaboul got off with only a yellow card when he brought down Mane as the last man in the 52nd minute, before Forster spilled the ball from an Eriksen cross at the other end.

Lloris then had to be alert to keep out a vicious Wanyama shot following an unconvincing clearance from captain Kaboul but Tottenham felt that they should have been awarded a penalty in the 75th minute when Adebayor appeared to be barged off the ball by Nathaniel Clyne, fresh from his first England call-up.

Referee Mike Jones waved away the home side's appeals but it made no difference as Southampton – who saw Mane fluff his lines in the closing 10 minutes after Bertrand had played in an excellent cross from the left – failed to find a way through their former manager's defensive line.

Mazzarri: Fluid Firorentina to test Inter’s mettle

    464102_heroa.jpg

Inter coach Walter Mazzarri has warned his players they are in for a real test when they travel Fiorentina on Sunday. The Nerazzurri are desperate to bounce back from last weekend’s shock 4-1 home defeat to Cagliari, their first of the Serie A season.

Fiorentina have just one win in their five league games this season, but Mazzarri says he is particularly concerned with the Viola’s fluid system.“It's going to be extremely tough,” Mazzarri told a press conference.

“They're a team that offers you no reference points. Vincenzo Montella never gives you any reference points. We'll try to be organised but it won't be easy because they move around a lot, you never know who is the centre forward and they've very good at keeping the ball.“They're a tough proposition even if they are missing some important players."The likes of Mario Gomez, Giuseppe Rossi, Juan Cuadrado and Stefan Savic are all set to miss the clash.

The former Napoli boss also leapt to the defence of midfielder Hernanes, who has been singled out for criticism following last season’s €20 million arrival from Lazio.
"For a start Hernanes was very useful in helping us to reach fifth place last season. This year's only just started and he's played well in some games and less well in others.

“Obviously we can expect more from him. There are teams who splash out far greater sums of money. Hernanes' price tag is relative."

Claudio Bravo celebrates Barcelona clean sheet record

    455046_heroa.jpg

Barcelona goalkeeper Claudio Bravo has expressed his delight at making Liga history by going 630 minutes without conceding a goal.

The Chile international reached the milestone in Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Rayo Vallecano, surpassing former Barca goalkeeper Pedro Maria Artola’ record of 560 minutes, set in 1978.

And Bravo, who arrived from Real Sociedad in the close season, was particularly pleased with the side’s reaction following Tuesday’s 3-2 Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain."I’m happy with the record. This is not an easy ground, and they created chances," he told the club website.

"But I was more pleased with the way the team played in general, more than the record.

"Criticism aside, the important thing was to win, and relax. We made corrections after the match in Paris and you could tell. I’m fully satisfied with the game."I always have to be ready to intervene when called upon. I wasn’t thinking about the record, I was thinking about the game and working hard not to let in goals."Defender Jeremy Mathieu added that the record was one earned by the whole Blaugrana defence.

"This was really a record for the whole team because the defence starts with the attack," he said."We have all worked hard for this clean sheet."

Saturday's victory was Barca's sixth in seven league outings this campaign, leaving them two points clear of Valencia - who defeated reigning champions Atletico Madrid 3-1 this weekend - at the top of La Liga.

Manchester City to announce €64m sponsorship bonus

    464950_heroa.jpg

Manchester City are poised to announce a raft of multi-million pound sponsorship deals in the next few weeks which could be worth as much as €64 million a year.

The Premier League champions are putting the final touches to their €255m City Football Academy training facility, with Manuel Pellegrini's squad set to move in next month.

The club's owners have been in high-level talks with a number of major global companies about attaching their name to sections of the 80-acre state-of-the-art site.

The 7,000-seater Arena name, along with the central performance centre and footbridge, which links it to the Etihad Stadium, are all in the cash pot.

City currently earn around €51m a year through their Etihad sponsorship of the shirts and stadium and hope to at least match that figure with a string of new sponsorship deals.

Japanese car makers Nissan recently formed a lucrative partnership with City and are thought to be one of the companies in the bidding.

City's Abu Dhabi owners were hit with a record €64m fine for breaching Uefa's Financial Fair Play rules this summer, though the club believe they can one day overtake neighbours United when it comes to bringing in commercial revenue.

Pardew galvanised by messages of support

    464965_heroa.jpg

Alan Pardew has taken heart from the support he has received following a testing few weeks as Newcastle United manager.

Speculation regarding Pardew's future has been frenzied so far in 2014-15 as a sizeable section of the club's supporters have vented their frustration at a string of poor results.

A run of one victory in their last 15 Premier League games plus a winless start to the new top-flight season has seen the pressure gradually increase on the former Southampton boss.

But Pardew's men showed great spirit to twice come from behind in Saturday's 2-2 draw at Swansea City, although the 53-year-old knows he needs to secure that elusive first league win as soon as possible.

"We've got to get our season going," stressed Pardew. "I've had lots of messages of support from within the game.

"We know the tension isn't going to go away but I think we've got a bit of confidence to lean on going into our next home game [against Leicester City after the international break].

"Hopefully we can win that. I have to just focus on the team and improve the team as best as I can.

"We need to make sure we grind out a win and get some confidence.

"The team gave it everything [at Swansea]. We're a better team than we're showing at the moment."

Tevez in line for Argentina recall - Martino

    464960_heroa.jpg

Gerardo Martino says Carlos Tevez could be handed a recall to the Argentina squad if he continues his current form for club side Juventus.

The forward last featured for his country three years ago and has not played since a substitute appearance in the 2011 Copa America quarter-final, which Argentina lost on penalties to eventual champions Uruguay.

The 30-year-old has been in fine form this season, netting six goals in as many appearances for the Turin giants, but was still not included in Martino's party to take on Brazil and Hong Kong in upcoming friendlies.

"Tevez's absence draws attention as it has done for two or three years," Martino told reporters."The doors of the national team are open to everyone and that includes him. If he continues in this form then I will probably call him.

"It just ends up being a matter of time but I will determine when, he will not be selected just because the media have asked for him."An idol at Boca Juniors, the forward retains huge support in the local media and with fans.

He never featured in a single one of former Argentina coach Alejandro Sabella’s squads during his three-year spell in charge, with the coach reportedly believing the former Boca star had a detrimental effect on squad harmony.Tevez scored 21 goals in all competitions for Juve last season.
