Manchester United ready £40m Fabregas bid

    ay_115229022.jpg

Manchester United will reportedly make a third bid to sign Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona – just when it looked as if the Premier League champions had abandoned their pursuit.United boss David Moyes has so far seen offers of £26million and £30m flatly rejected by Barca, with the Catalans adamant the former Arsenal man is not for sale.Moyes’ recent comments on the situation suggested the club were resigned to giving up their chase.

But the Scot and chief executive Ed Woodward remain undeterred and have interpreted Fabregas’ silence on the saga as a sign that he is open to the move.
Now the Manchester Evening News claims United will lodge a third bid which, if accepted, would trump the club-record £30.8m fee they paid Tottenham for Dimitar Berbatov in 2008.

That could seriously tempt Barca to accept as it would leave the La Liga champions with a tidy profit on the £25m they parted with to take the Spain international back to the Nou Camp from Arsenal in 2011.

However, after selling Thiago Alcantara to Bayern Munich, new Barca boss Gerardo Martino may be unwilling to see his midfield resources further depleted with the loss of the 26-year-old.Fabregas returned to training on Monday, and tweeted: ‘After passing this morning’s medical, I’m all set and very excited about training with my team-mates!’

His team-mate Javier Mascherano yesterday said he did not believe a United move would materialise but, having failed to hold down a regular first-team place last term, Fabregas could find the prospect of becoming United’s midfield lynchpin tempting in the lead up to the World Cup.

Gareth Bale arrives at Tottenham training ground

    matey_2978445.jpg

Spurs are remaining quiet on the world record bid of £86million that Sky Sports understands Real Madrid have made for the Welsh 24-year-old.

Although he was back at the training ground, a muscle injury, that forced him out the 6-0 pre-season friendly win against South China in Hong Kong on Saturday, will mean his physical activities may be restricted. He is also unlikely to be involved in the weekend friendly against Monaco with the Premier League campaign kicking off on August 17.

Tottenham fans will be more concerned with the winger's availabilty for the new season and whether their star player, who scored 26 goals and was named PFA Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year, will be heading to the Bernabeu. It has been reported that Bale is keen on talking to Real representatives, while the Spanish club's director of football Zinedine Zidane believes the player should be given the opportunity to begin discussions.

Jamie Redknapp - a guest on Tuesday night's Football Season Preview show on Sky Sports - says the new offer made by the La Liga giants makes sense for Spurs and the player."Real Madrid are the biggest club in the world how can he turn it down?" said Redknapp. "I also believe Tottenham are a selling club, their history would suggest that. You go back to Michael Carrick, Modric Berbatov they do tend to sell.

"They always sell at the right price and I think there will be a conversation between Daniel Levy and Joe Lewis and I can only see one outcome - and that is he will be a Real Madrid player."Real defender Sergio Ramos has also had his say on the Bale situation. Speaking on the club's US tour, Ramos said: "I think the mixing of veteran players as well as young players is a great philosophy."Not only as a team but in providing young people for some of us who have been here for so many years.

"Facing up to the challenges, and in that sense, those who are in a position to decide will leave us with our job to do."I think they have to work that out with (Real coach) Carlo Ancelotti, they must decide whether they need more players."

On Tuesday, Real keeper Iker Casillas also spoke out in favour of Bale moving to La Liga, saying: "We are talking about one of the top three or four best players in Europe and it's normal that his name is being discussed."And even Barcelona's Javier Mascherano has backed Bale to be a success in Spain.

"Always when players with quality come it is very good for the league," he told Fox Sports."Bale is a player that has shown in the last three years that he is one of the best in his position."

Robert Lewandowski says he feels 'cheated' by current club Borussia Dortmund

    Robert-Lewandowski-Borussia-Dortmund_2949509.jpg

The 24-year-old striker, who has been heavily linked with a move to Bayern Munich this summer, is expected to stay for the final year of his contract at Borussia Dortmund. But, quoted in Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita, Lewandowski says he feels cheated by members of Dortmund's management.

Lewandowski said: "If someone says something, he should keep his word. I'm not saying it's only about the transfer, but other things we have discussed with management and that has not materialised."It turns out that words spoken straight into my eyes were untrue. No matter how hard I will train and what I will do, the feeling that I've been cheated will still be there.

"Maybe that word is too much, so for now I will say I'm disappointed."Lewandowski featured in Dortmund's German Super Cup win against Bayern Munich at the weekend.

Spurs want Modric in Bale deal

    lukamodricandgarethbale_576x324.jpg

Tottenham Hotspur will agree to sell Gareth Bale to Real Madrid as long as they get Luka Modric back as part of the deal, according to reports.

Despite Spurs' firm stance over the Wales international, a move to the Bernabeu this summer looks increasingly likely, with the only remaining issue being what an overall deal involves. Real have so far reportedly offered £80 million while Tottenham are looking for a package in excess of £100 million.
Tottenham are keen that they are not caught short by losing Bale, even for a huge sum, without them having a top player to fill the void.

Although Modric left White Hart Lane under something of a cloud a year ago for an initial £28 million, reports in The Times and the London-based Evening Standard suggest some of that fee is still outstanding and a guarantee of first-team football might tempt him back to North London. When questioned about Real's interest in Bale at the weekend, Modric spoke of his admiration for his former team-mate.

"I have a very good relationship with Bale, but I don’t talk about players who aren’t in the team," he told Marca. "All I can say is that he’s a great player."If Modric does return to White Hart Lane then it will leave Manchester United contemplating another of their transfer targets to move elsewhere.

Reports on Tuesday suggested that the Premier League champions were preparing to launch a £25 million bid for Modric as their search for a top-class midfielder continues, having seen Thiago Alcantara move to Bayern Munich and Cesc Fabregas seemingly set to stay at Barcelona.

Reina: I'm not angry with Liverpool

    297674_heroa.jpg

Pepe Reina has backtracked on claims Liverpool accepted a loan offer from Napoli without his consent, now insisting he holds no ill feeling over the move.

The goalkeeper posted an open letter on his personal website earlier in the week that alleged the Anfield outfit had made arrangements to send him to Italy for the upcoming campaign without discussing matters with him first.

However, Reina has now moved to clarify his position, maintaining that whilst he believes the situation was not dealt with in an ideal way, he is, in fact, delighted to be linking up with Rafael Benitez again.

"I'm not angry with Liverpool - quite the opposite. I am very grateful to them for everything they have given me," he told Spanish radio programme El Larguero on Wednesday.

"My departure was different to what I expected, but I will always be grateful to them.

"The signing wasn't sealed, because you can't do that without the consent of the player, but it was at an advanced stage and I didn't know about it.

"This is the nature of football - when you are loved by a team, you really feel it, but when you go through bad moments, you are treated differently. In the end I will remember the love I felt from the fans for so many years.

"My time in England is where I have felt truly like a footballer and I have put my name among the best players. I'm very proud to have played almost 400 games with Liverpool."

Reina went on to note that the presence of former Liverpool manager Benitez at the helm of Napoli has made his unanticipated switch to southern Italy more palatable.

"Rafael Benitez is the best coach I have had," the Spain international enthused. "I don't know if I'd have joined Napoli without him being there.

"There are many positive things about the city of Napoli and they have a fervent support, like Liverpool's, but Benitez being there made it much easier for me to sign."

Reina came through the youth ranks at Barcelona before moving to Villarreal in 2002 and then on to Anfield three years later.

No agreement with Liverpool for Papadopoulos, insist Schalke

    214063_heroa.jpg

Schalke general manager Horst Heldt has moved to deny rumours suggesting centre-back Kyriakos Papadopoulos is close to joining Liverpool.

The 21-year-old has been linked with a move to Anfield for months now, with recent reports suggesting that a deal somewhere in the region of €15 million is close to being concluded.

However, Heldt has claimed the Bundesliga outfit are yet to receive any offers for the promising Greek international, insisting his side are currently planning for the youngster's return from a devastating knee injury suffered in November 2012.

"There's not a jot of truth in it," Heldt told German newspaper Reviersport. "We have no offer for Papadopoulos. Neither from Liverpool or some other club.

"On the contrary: we are very happy that 'Papa' is making progress and can be back soon, hopefully. We're planning with him."

Despite being adamant that no bid has arrived for Schalke's prized asset, Heldt did go on to reveal that the club will consider the sale of Papadopoulos should a sufficient offer be tabled.

He added: "If we receive an offer for him, we will come together and talk about that as we do with every player for us."
