Mourinho's 'not worth it' - Ronaldo

    303835_heroa.jpg

Cristiano Ronaldo has refused to speak about Jose Mourinho following recent comments in the press from the former Real Madrid boss, suggesting his compatriot is "not worth it".

The new Chelsea manager struck a nerve with the forward when he said he was not the 'real' Ronaldo earlier in August, with the Santiago Bernabeu star subsequently ruffled but wanting to stay out of a public slinging match.

Although Mourinho has since sought to clarify the issue, saying his initial quotes were blown out of proportion, Ronaldo is still refusing to answer questions regarding his fellow Portuguese.

"I will not mention the name of that person [Mourinho]," he said to reporters following Portugal's 1-1 draw with Netherlands, in which he scored a late equaliser. "He's not worth it."

Ronaldo did, however, laud his current Blancos coach Carlo Ancelotti and says he is hoping that Madrid can complete La Decima and win back the Primera Division title from Barcelona this season.

"Ancelotti is a great coach, a great man and I am very happy to work with him," he added.

"We will try to win La Liga and the Champions League. It is difficult but this team is good, we have a great coach and we will try to make it happen."

Real Madrid kick off their 2013-14 campaign against Real Betis on Sunday.

'Napoli have a champion in Higuain' - Campagnaro

    305989_heroa.jpg

Former Napoli defender Hugo Campagnaro believes that Gonzalo Higuain will flourish following his move from Real Madrid this summer.

Rafael Benitez's side paid roughly €40 million to sign the 25-year-old Argentina striker and Campagnaro, who ended his four-year stint at the Stadio San Paolo to join Inter this summer, is certain his compatriot will be a success."Napoli have signed a champion," the 33-year-old told reporters. "He is a player who has done well at whichever club he has been at and I've spoken to him about the enthusiasm of the fans in the city.

"He will do very well there, Napoli are a great club and the city is a special place."
Both players featured in Argentina's 2-1 victory in a friendly against Italy at the Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday, with Higuain opening the scoring in the 21st minute.

    Thiago Silva reveals PSG doubts

    293612_heroa.jpg

Thiago Silva has revealed he harboured major doubts about leaving AC Milan for Paris Saint-Germain last summer.

The defender, 28, left San Siro for an estimated €42 million and - along with fellow ex-Rossoneri team-mate Zlatan Ibrahimovic - helped propel les Parisiens to the Ligue 1 title for the first time in 19 years.

However, the centre-back admits that - at first - he was apprehensive about swapping Serie A for Parc des Princes, but that he has come to perceive French football as amongst the highest quality in the world.

"I had some pretty big doubts when I signed here," the Brazil international - who has been linked with Barcelona throughout the current transfer window - told BeIn Sport.

"Not because of PSG, but because I was leaving AC Milan for a different type of football, what I thought was probably not as good a league.

"Today I'd say the two leagues are on par because Ligue 1 has improved a lot in recent years. This season I think French football will show the world how far it has come, but I had this doubt, I wasn't sure I'd made the right choice.

"I admit that even before we won the title I was still thinking about it. But today I know I made the right choice because I'm working with some formidable people."

PSG started their title defence with a lacklustre 1-1 draw at Montpellier but will hope to bounce back with a win at home to Ajaccio on Sunday, with kick-off at 21:00CET.

    ACM is his home

Granero joins Real Sociedad on loan

    294630_heroa.jpg

Esteban Granero has agreed to join Real Sociedad on a season-long loan from QPR.

The move marks a return to Spain for the 26-year-old who joined the English club from Real Madrid in 2012.

The midfielder has been heavily linked with a move away from the club since their relegation from the Premier League last season, and he has now penned a deal with the Champions League newcomers.

"Esteban Granero has returned to Spain to join Real Sociedad on loan," read a statement on QPR's official website on Thursday.

Fulham had expressed interest in his services and were reported to have made an enquiry for the player this week, but the former Spain U21 international has elected to return to La Liga.

Real Sociedad have confirmed that the midfielder will arrive in San Sebastian on Friday and that they have the option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season.

La Real have been in the market for midfield reinforcement ever since Asier Illarramendi joined Real Madrid for €30 million in July.

Galliani: Balotelli will be fit to face PSV

    302700_heroa.jpg

AC Milan CEO Adriano Galliani has declared that star striker Mario Balotelli will be fit for the club's Champions League play-off against PSV.

The Italy international was forced to skip his country's 2-1 friendly defeat by Argentina in Rome on Wednesday night because of a troublesome knee injury.

However, Galliani is confident that Balotelli will be available for Tuesday night's trip to the Philips Stadion.

"Mario should make it for PSV," the Rossoneri supremo told Sky Sport Italia. "The knee is going well.

"I also heard from [Milan coach Massimiliano] Allegri, who told me that he should be there.

"Physically and psychologically, Milan are fine.

"I saw the team play in Germany and the US, and they seemed to me in good condition, so we'll see next week."

Meanwhile, Galliani confirmed that there had been no movement in relation to the club's attempt to bring forward the arrival of CSKA attacking midfielder Keisuke Honda, who has agreed to join Milan on loan in January.

"The situation is very clear," he stated. "CSKA Moscow is the rightful owner of his card, so if they want to give him to us, we will take him in August.

"If they don't give him to us, he will come in January on a free transfer.

"The market closes on September 2. It's clear that, as time goes by, the deal becomes less and less interesting for us, but you never know; this is football, after all."

Soldado targets 20 goals in debut Tottenham season

    304289_heroa.jpg

Tottenham striker Roberto Soldado is aiming for a 20-goal return from his first Premier League campaign.

The Spain international opened his account in a pre-season draw with Espanyol after sealing a €30 million move from Valencia and is looking to continue his exploits from last season, in which he scored 30 goals in 46 appearances for the Liga side.

Soldado told Reuters Television: "To give an exact figure is difficult but my aim is to score more than 20 goals, which I consider a good number."

The 28-year-old admits that it will hard to reproduce his form from La Liga but has faith in his new team-mates to help him reach his target.

"It will be tough but, with hard work and the support of my team-mates, then it is possible," he argued. "The Premier League is more intense than La Liga and the physical side of things harder than in Spain. Because of that I want to show my commitment to fight for this jersey in the best manner possible.

"However, the main objective is to qualify for the Champions League and we know how hard that will be because the competition is very strong, but we'll take things a step at a time.

"We have to try and take three points from every match. It's the only way to do it so we achieve our aims. We hope to do great things."

Chelsea new-boy Schurrle: Don't compare me to Marin

    302630_heroa.jpg

Chelsea striker Andre Schurrle is confident that he will be a hit in the Premier League, unlike countryman Marko Marin.

The 22-year-old, who joined from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer, wants to avoid the ill-fortunes of his fellow German, who made only two Premier League starts in 2012-13 before moving to Sevilla on loan for the new campaign.

"I am Andre Schurrle and I don't compare myself to others," the new Blue told Kicker. "I have my own qualities and enough confidence to say I feel strong enough to come out on top here. It is a great challenge but I am delighted that I took this chance."

The German came on as a substitute to earn his 25th cap for his country on Wednesday, in a 3-3 draw with Paraguay. National coach Joachim Low had claimed that the forward's interntional career had lost its way but Schurrle is now hopeful for the future.

"[Low] also told me that and, looking at the figures, you could see it that way," he admitted. "I scored seven goals in my first 14 games for Germany and none in the last 11 but I think that, when I was subbed on, I was involved in some chances for us. My game has become safer, I also developed last season."

This is Schurrle's first taste of pre-season on a global scale after previously only training in central Europe following stints at Mainz and Leverkusen but Chelsea have taken in Asia and the USA over the summer.

The attacker marvelled: "It is a different world here. We have a huge squad with lots of great players. Everything is bigger and the pre-season is totally different from what I have got to know so far. We have only trained in London for four days."

With Hull City first up for Jose Mourinho's men, however, Schurrle is not expecting to be completely fit to see out a whole game just yet, confirming: ""The full 90 minutes will be hard for me right now."

    Willian 'hopeful' over Liverpool bid

    305442_heroa.jpg

Willian has expressed his interest in a move to Liverpool after being told that he can leave Anzhi Makhachkala for the right price.

The Brazil international only arrived in Dagestan from Shakhtar Donetsk in January for a reported fee of €35 million, but the 25-year-old has now been put up for sale by club owner Suleiman Kerimov, who last week announced drastic cost-cutting measures.

Willian has explained that Anzhi have yet to receive any official offers for his services but that he is anticipating an offer from Liverpool and perhaps another approach from Manchester City, whose advances were spurned in the past, after having previously told Goal he was open to a move away from Anzhi in future.

"For now, all there is are talks," Willian told ESPN Brasil. "There was the Manchester City bid [of €40 million], and that was turned down [before Kerimov decided to reduce funding] and that was a while ago.

"Now, I'm waiting for a new bid to arrive in the next days from a few clubs, like Liverpool. If it's really Liverpool, then it is surely a great club. I'm hopeful and very calm, just waiting for the best.

"I know some clubs have talked with my agent about the money, but he hasn't told me anything. He only said that he had conversations with some clubs, and he also didn't tell me which clubs."

When asked if he believed the clubs in question were English, Willian replied: "I think so. England is my goal. The English championship is the dream of many players and I'm no different.

"I like the Premier League very much, I enjoy the English football and certainly, if that happens, it will be very good for me and for my image."

Meanwhile, Willian admitted that Kerimov's sudden decision to curb his spending had taken him by surprise, on the day that Igor Denisov led the exodus of star names from the club by joining Dinamo Moscow along with Yuri Zhirkov and Aleksandr Kokorin.

"I saw the news on the internet, and then when I got to the club I heard lots of people talking about it," the 25-year-old explained. "No one was expecting it, that's for sure.

"I respect everyone's opinion, though. He probably has his reasons to decide that. I'd rather stay cool, working and never let my head down, even in a situation like this.

"All I know is that [Kerimov] told us that Anzhi wouldn't be making further investments, that in six months they will be returning to Makhachkala, that they'll be going home, that more Russian players will arrive and that, if the foreign players who had offers would be free to go, that he would help us.

"He doesn't want to let anyone go for free but he made it clear that, if good bids arrive - something at least close to what he paid for the players - he would certainly help us go.

"[He is] not giving anyone away. [But] if a good offer for the arrives, they'll let us go; if not, we stay. That's it."

Willian, who has been capped twice by his country, joined Shakhtar from Corinthians six years ago.

Schalke agree terms with Basel winger Stocker

    269368_heroa.jpg

Schalke have agreed terms with Basel's Valentin Stocker - but the two clubs are still at loggerheads over the size of the transfer fee.

The Bundesliga outfit have identified the Switzerland winger as the ideal man to replace Michel Bastos, who spent last season in Gelksenkirchen on loan from Olympique Lyonnais before electing to join United Arab Emirates outfit Al Ain this summer.

Stocker has accepted Schalke's offer of a four-year contract worth €2 million per year but Basel's asking price of €6m, plus bonuses, remains a major stumbling block.

Indeed, die Knappen have decided to wait until after their Champions League third qualifying round meeting with PAOK before deciding whether to meet the Swiss club's valuation of the 24-year-old.

Stocker, who starred for his country in Wednesday night's historic victory over Brazil, has established himself as one of the most exciting players in Switzerland since making his debut for Basel six years ago.

The versatile wide-man, who can play at left-back as well as a winger, has notched three assists in just three games since the start of the new Swiss Super League season.

Pastore: New signings take the pressure off me

    302166_heroa.jpg

Javier Pastore is pleased that Paris Saint-Germain continue to make high-profile signings as he feels the new arrivals lighten the burden of expectation on his shoulders.

The Argentina international has struggled to justify his reported €39.8 million transfer fee since joining from Palermo two years ago after an inconsistent campaign with the French champions last season.

However, the 24-year-old attacking midfielder says that he now feels less pressure to perform, given he has been joined at the Parc des Princes by the likes of Edinson Cavani and Lucas Moura since making the switch to Parc des Princes 12 months ago.

"With the players that have arrived, the fans no longer look only at me," Pastore is quoted as saying by RMC. "There are now other great players here who were also very expensive.

"It's better for me to have less responsibility. I'm calmer now, that's for sure. When the pressure is shared with your team-mates, it's much better."

Pastore, who was Serie A's Young Player of the Year in 2010, managed only four goals in 33 Ligue 1 appearances last season.
