Isco: Bale would be a 'blessed problem' for Ancelotti

    301752_heroa.jpg

Isco says that there is no doubt that the arrival of Gareth Bale at Real Madrid would give coach Carlo Ancelotti a problem, but a "blessed" one.

Los Blancos have already confirmed their interest in the Tottenham winger, but have thus far refused to meet the Premier League outfit's asking price of €114 million.

There has been also been some debate over whether Madrid actually need Bale, but Isco feels that the Welshman would represent a most welcome selection headache for Ancelotti.

"If he comes, it would a problem for the coach, but a blessed problem," he told reporters at a press conference on Friday.

"I think what everybody thinks [about him]: that he is a really great player. So, we would welcome him as everyone else has been welcomed [this summer]."

Isco is one of Madrid's most recent arrivals, having joined from Malaga for a reported €30m and he believes he can thrive at the Bernabeu under Ancelotti's tutelage.

"He's a coach who is always speaking with you," he explains. "He is very close to the players and his philosophy is perfect for Madrid.

"The coach asks for possession, good judgment, creativity and high pressing. It's a style that suits players who like to play. We're going to see an attractive Madrid that will do great things.

"We want to do well in all competitions, not just the Champions League. We want to win everything."

Isco admitted, though, that he faces a difficult task in nailing down a regular berth in the Madrid starting line-up.

"I will just try to do my job," he explained. "The adaptation for me has been quick and easy. I'm delighted to be here and eager to do well.

"It's true that at Malaga I played every game as a starter, but here at Madrid, they give nothing away.

"I hope to play a lot and I hope to play on Sunday [in Madrid's Liga opener against Betis] but the coach has the final say."

Isco, who has been capped once at senior level by Spain, played a key role in the country's triumph at this summer's Under-21 European Championship.

    Monaco complete Romero signing

    252422_heroa.jpg

Monaco have signed Sergio Romero from Sampdoria on a one-year loan deal with an option to make the move permanent at the end of his temporary spell.

The ambitious Ligue 1 side were keen to add a new goalkeeper to their squad before the closure of the summer transfer window and had previously been linked with Barcelona's Victor Valdes.

They turned their attention to Romero after Valdes opted to stay at Barca for one additional season and have now completed the signing of the Argentina international.

"Sampdoria can communicate that Monaco have acquired the sporting rights of Sergio Romero on a temporary basis with an option to buy," a statement on the official Sampdoria website reads.

The 26-year-old started his professional career at Racing Club, but made the move to Europe in 2007 when he joined AZ.

He won one Eredivisie title with the Alkmaar side before joining Sampdoria in the summer of 2011.

    Coentrao wants Real Madrid exit

    306484_heroa.jpg

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that Fabio Coentrao has requested to be allowed to leave the club this transfer window.

The Portugal international has struggled to nail down a regular first-team spot since arriving from Benfica in 2011 and has been linked with a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu side more than once this summer.

Coentrao has been mentioned as a potential makeweight in a move for Tottenham star Gareth Bale, but Ancelotti has now admitted that Coentrao looks set to depart Madrid regardless of their pursuit of the Welshman.

"Coentrao has asked to leave the club and won’t be playing Sunday [against Betis]," Ancelotti said at a press conference.

The Italian then went on to discuss the potential arrival of Bale and admitted that he would welcome the Welshman with open arms even though he is happy with his current squad.

"Bale? I can only respond by saying I’m very happy with the squad I have but the best players make a team better."

The 54-year-old then added that he is determined to get his reign under way in the best possible manner and is not only committed to winning this term, but doing so by playing the best football possible.

"Our objective is not only to win but to also play beautiful attacking football. The important thing is to create a style of play that is comfortable for my players.

"If the team plays well, the fans will be happy. The atmosphere at the Bernabeu has always been great."

Barcelona end David Luiz & Agger chase

    303548_heroa.jpg

Gerardo Martino has stated that Barcelona no longer plan to sign a centre-back this summer after attempts to lure David Luiz and Daniel Agger away from Chelsea and Liverpool, respectively proved to be unsuccessful.

The Liga champions were prepared to pay €25 million for the Brazil international, but Chelsea were holding out for double that figure, while Barca's offer for Agger was deemed insufficient by Liverpool, prompting the Catalans to end their pursuit of a new defender.

"A new centre-back? I'm happy with the team I have. There's always the January window if we need anything. Last year's problems in defence were the result of injuries. We have enough options if everybody's fit," Martino said at a press conference.

"Puyol is on schedule with his recovery process. We are awaiting his return and expect him to be match fit again come September.

"We have Puyi in defence, Gerard Pique, Javier Mascherano, Marc Bartra and even Adriano. If someone gets injured, the January transfer window is only months away."

Barcelona start their 2013-14 Liga campaign on Sunday as they host Levante.

Andreolli: I'm worthy of Inter jersey

    300599_heroa.jpg

Marco Andreolli is determined to prove that he is good enough to wear the Inter jersey following his move from Chievo this summer.

The 27-year-old is a product of the club's youth academy, but failed to secure regular first team football during his first spell at the Giuseppe Meazza side.

He earned himself a return to Inter with a string of fine performances for Chievo, though, and is keen to make an impact this term.

"Over these years I always hoped to return to Inter. I worked hard and tried to improve every day in order to achieve this goal," he told reporters.

"Now at this point I need to reset everything and start from scratch, and work even harder to show I deserve to wear this shirt.

"That's why Inter has to be just a starting point for me. I’m happy to once again meet up with all the people I knew seven years ago."

Andreolli could make his official Inter debut in this weekend's Coppa Italia game against Cittadella.

Mourinho: Chelsea can win the Premier League

    303719_heroa.jpg

Jose Mourinho believes Chelsea can win the Premier League this year despite admitting that no team has enough quality to "destroy the competition".

The Portuguese manager is returning to Stamford Bridge for his second spell in charge after leaving the club in 2007 after falling out with owner Roman Abramovich.

During his six years away the 50-year-old has won Serie A and La Liga with Inter and Real Madrid respectively, while also lifting the Champions League with the Nerazzurri in 2010.

And despite his belief that no side is good enough to run away with the title, Mourinho has faith that his squad has the right blend of talent and experience to deliver the trophy to west London once again.

"When I hear Arsene Wenger, who has been here for more years than me, speak of six candidates to win it, I agree with him," he told reporters.

"We don't see somebody who can destroy the competition with 95 or 100 points and win the title. That's good for the competition. But yes, we can win it.

"We start with zero points, we go match by match, we have a good squad: some with talent who aren't end products; some kids who haven't played a Premier League match yet.

"But I want to think 'yes', that this team step by step will be better, make fewer mistakes, will be more solid."

Mourinho stated that while there is no standout team this year, the Premier League will be a stronger competition for it - but not before a veiled criticism of both Manchester clubs' title-winning teams.

"The league is probably stronger because more teams can fight for the trophy, but a few years ago the better teams were better," he continued.

"You think Manchester United won the Premier League last year because they were an unbelievable team? I don't think so. The other contenders didn't have a very good season.

"It was the same the year before when City won the title. Were they an extraordinary team? I don't think so. Others made so many mistakes that City eventually won the competition."

The Stamford Bridge manager also pointed to his own impressive record in both England and Spain as evidence of his desire to play attacking football at Chelsea, which he admitted will be a necessity due to the players at his disposal.

"Record number of points in the Premier League? Chelsea. Record points in La Liga? My Real Madrid. Record of goals? My Real Madrid. Record of consecutive victories in the Premier League: I don't know, but maybe it's our record still.

"We don't win by winning 1-0, by defending and not attacking. My teams are offensive teams. Look at the profile of player we have: Oscar, Hazard, Mata, De Bruyne, Schurrle... we can't play physical football with these people.

"My players are technical players, they want the ball, need the ball, and I want to attack and try and be dominant."

Ancelotti: Madrid desperate for Champions League glory

    301185_heroa.jpg

Carlo Ancelotti has admitted that the Champions League is Real Madrid's main objective this season as they go in search of their 10th European Cup.

The Santiago Bernabeu side last won European club football's elite competition in 2001-02 when they beat Bayer Leverkusen 2-1 and Ancelotti is determined to help them to their long-awaited Decima.

"Everybody at Madrid is focused on winning the European Cup. It's the main objective for all Madridistas," Ancelotti told Corriere dello Sport.

"Real Madrid have not made it into the final of the Champions League since 2002 and that's amazing when you think about it.

"I think it's been too long for a club of Madrid's stature."

The former Paris Saint-Germain coach then went on to discuss the rivalry with Barcelona and stressed that Madrid do not intend to copy the Catalans' style of play.

"Our style of play will not be more similar to that of Barcelona than before. Barcelona have their own philosophy and their team has been together for quite a while.

"Madrid have different players with their own style. We aim to play attacking football and bring spectacle to the stadiums. We have some excellent players."

Ancelotti also had his say on Cristiano Ronaldo and stated that he expects the Portugal international to have a good season.

"Cristiano's success is Madrid's success. He has started well and is really motivated. He will have a fantastic season.

"Everybody is determined and focused after a difficult season like last term and Cristiano even more than the others."

    Blanc relishing PSG pressure

    306428_heroa.jpg

Paris Saint-Germain trainer Laurent Blanc is not letting the pressure of coaching the big-spending Ligue 1 side affect his focus.

The French champions, who were held to a 1-1 draw at Montpellier in their opening Ligue 1 fixture of the 2013-14 campaign, spent over €100 million on the signings of Edinson Cavani, Lucas Digne and Marquinhos this summer, but Blanc is unfazed by the scrutiny of managing the wealthy club.

"There's a lot of pressure on the shoulders of PSG's coach as it's one of the big French clubs but hey, I've asked for it, so I just have to accept it," Blanc said at a press conference.

"I'm even happy to live these moments. Let's not forget that a few months ago I was jobless. Then obviously I had no pressure. I was sitting at home, I was chilling.

"Pressure is part of our life as a coach. Yeah, it's hard but when you sign for a job like this one, you know what to expect and you have to enjoy it."

Meanwhile, new signing Cavani could be in line for his first Ligue 1 start after appearing from the bench last week and goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu feels the Uruguayan could be just what the team need.

"Cavani is a modern forward player. He gives a lot to the team. He's very fit. He can be a striker as well as a good defender," Sirigu said.

"He's able to defend very well and applies a lot of pressure. He's always ready to give a hand to his team-mates.

"I think that's what we need now; forward players who are ready to sacrifice themselves for their team and team-mates."

    Monaco rubbish Falcao rumours

    306431_heroa.jpg

Monaco have denied that they may be forced to sell Radamel Falcao again this summer because of the row brewing over the club's tax status.

The newly-promoted Ligue 1 side benefit from having their headquarters based in the tax haven of Monaco, but the French league has ruled they must relocate to France by June 2014, making them subject to the same tax conditions as their rivals if the ruling is upheld on appeal.

This has led to rumours that some of the club's big-name arrivals, such as Falcao, Joao Moutinho and James Rodriguez, could be forced to leave the principality-based outfit again in the near future.

Spanish newspaper Marca reported on Thursday that Falcao's agent Jorge Mendes has been discussing his client with clubs such as Chelsea, Manchester United and Real Madrid due to the uncertainty over Monaco's tax situation.

Nevertheless, Monaco have now insisted that Falcao will not be leaving the Stade Louis II any time soon.

"The club categorically deny rumours about a sale of Falcao," Monaco wrote on their official Twitter account.

"As a reminder, the Colombian attacker has signed with ASMFC for five years."

Falcao, 27, netted once on his official Monaco debut last weekend as he guided them to a 2-0 win over Bordeaux.

Casillas is the best in the world, says Isco

    301752_heroa.jpg

New Real Madrid arrival Isco believes Iker Casillas is the best goalkeeper in the world, but has stressed that the Spain international faces stiff competition from Diego Lopez for the No.1 jersey.

Casillas lost his starting berth to Lopez last season after a hand injury, but is widely expected to return to the starting XI under Carlo Ancelotti.

However, even though Isco has nothing but praise for Casillas, he feels Lopez will prove to be a serious rival for the 32-year-old.

"For me, Casillas is the best in the world, having won everything in recent years," Isco stated at a press conference.

"They are both keepers who have proven themselves to be huge talents over their careers. Diego was fantastic last year.

"I think it's great that there's such healthy competition between the posts."

Madrid open their 2013-14 Liga campaign with a home match against Betis on Sunday.

Youthful PSV will cause Milan problems - Van Bommel

    300866_heroa.jpg

Mark van Bommel insists PSV will cause AC Milan problems in their Champions League play-off clash first leg on Tuesday.

The retired midfielder, who represented both sides in an illustrious 20-year career, feels the Rossoneri will have their hands full coping with a youthful and vibrant Dutch attack - although he admits the tie is poised on a kinfe-edge.

“It will be a very difficult game for both teams,” he told Milan Channel. “PSV have changed a lot, they have a lot of young players and they are a very quick team.

“Milan doesn’t know how PSV play, they all run a lot. [Adam] Maher is the best player for PSV and their attack is so dangerous that they can hurt you from one moment to the next.

“But Milan are Milan and if you play in a team like this it is impossible not to do well. [Kevin-Prince] Boateng, [Mario] Balotelli and even the defence is very strong, otherwise they would not be playing at Milan.

“I can tell you that PSV are not happy to have drawn Milan for the knock-out round. I think they are very good at going forward but they have a very young defence. It will be a very interesting match to watch at the stadium because who knows what can happen."

Van Bommel admitted his allegiances are torn for the up-coming tie, despite having only represented the San Siro outfit for 18 months.

“I played for a year and a half for Milan but it felt like 10 years," he explained. "It was such a joy for me and I cried a lot when I left. I played seven years at PSV but I think the best players I played with were at Milan even though last season many of them left.

"It is very difficult for me to decide who to support; only one will go through.”
