    Fulham sign Parker from Tottenham

    298892_heroa.jpg

Fulham have confirmed they have completed the signing of Scott Parker from Tottenham.

The 32-year-old midfielder has decided to spurn the interest of recently relegated QPR to sign a three-year deal with Martin Jol's side, and joins for an undisclosed fee.

Fulham will be Parker's fifth London club, the England international having already enjoyed spells with Charlton, Chelsea, West Ham and Tottenham during a distinguished career.

“I’m delighted to be joining Fulham and I’m looking forward to meeting my new teammates at training tomorrow morning," Parker told the club's official website.

Fulham is an established Premier League club and I look forward to trying to help the team progress even further over the next three years."

Boss Martin Jol added: "I'm delighted that Scott has joined us.
"He's a midfielder who works tirelessly for his team and is a fantastic player both on and off the ball."It is wonderful to see a player of his stature playing for Fulham Football Club as he has shown his qualities in the Premier League and for the England team for many years.

"I'm happy that he's here and joins us for training ahead of our first home match of the season."

Arda Turan likely to leave Atletico Madrid for Premier League, agent claims

    300166_heroa.jpg

Arda Turan is likely to move to the Premier League this summer, his agent claimed after he confirmed the interest of English clubs in signing the winger from Atletico Madrid.

The 26-year-old won the Europa League in his first season with Atleti after joining from Galatasaray in 2011, and coach Diego Simeone is believed to want to retain him having previously spoken of the value to the club.

The Turkey international’s agent Ahmet Bulut however claimed a move was likely and stressed that he had a release clause at which the club would be obliged to sell him.

"The transfer of Arda to the Premier League this summer is likely," Bulut told Turkish television station NTV Spor.

"England is where most of the interest in him lies and they are well informed about Atletico's stance.

"They know that the Madrid club are rejecting all offers for him but that if the pay his release clause there is nothing the club can do. There have been discussions."

The attacker has also been linked with Monaco, and while his agent confirmed that a team from the French league made a €17m bid for him last month, he added: "both Atletico and Arda simultaneously rejected it."

His agent also added that there had been interest from Turkey, though he stressed: "No team has come close to offering the €24m [£20m] stated in his contract, but there has been a lot of activity this summer."

However, Galatasaray coach Fatih Terim in turn suggested that he could yet return to his former club.

"I talked to him for two hours after Turkey-Ghana friendly and he told me that his desire is to return to Galatasaray and he is doing everything he can to return,” Terim told reporters.

"Indeed, I would encourage our President to talk with Atletico, although I understand what he means to them and I don't want to cause trouble."

    Juventus suffer Marchisio blow

    307092_heroa.jpg

Juventus have confirmed that Claudio Marchisio will be out for a period of between 30 to 35 days, after he picked up an injury during Sunday's Super Cup victory over Lazio.

Goals from Paul Pogba, Giorgio Chiellini, Stephan Lichtsteiner and Carlos Tevez secured the trophy for the Bianconeri on Sunday.

But with the success came a major setback, as Marchisio suffered a torn ligament during the match at Stadio Olimpico.

"Claudio Marchisio today underwent an MRI scan at Turin’s Fornaca Clinic after taking a knock during the first half of last night’s Super Cup clash with Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome," read a statement on the club's official website.

"The scan of the midfielder’s right knee revealed a first-second degree tear of his medial collateral ligament.

"He is expected to be sidelined for a period of between 30 and 35 days."

Antonio Conte's men will start off the 2013-14 Serie A campaign with a trip to Sampdoria on August 24.

    Lewandowski hails Dortmund patience

    300679_heroa.jpg

Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski has praised his team's patience after their 2-1 win against Eintracht Braunschweig on Sunday.

The newly-promoted underdogs were resilient in the face of BVB pressure for much of the afternoon at Signal Iduna Park, much to the frustration of last season's Champions League finalists.

But youngster Jonas Hofmann, who was brought in for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the second half, was able to break the deadlock in the 75th minute.

Later on, Marco Reus scored a penalty and Kevin Kratz marked a consolation as Dortmund held on for all three points.

"Braunschweig were standing very deep," the 24-year-old told the club's official website.

"If you don't score a goal during the early stages of the match in this situation, you tend to struggle against a heavily defending team like that.

"But in the end, we did well and waited for our chance patiently. We need to work on our effectiveness, however."

Meanwhile, Hofmann was delighted with scoring his first Bundesliga goal after coming off the bench.

"If you join the action on the pitch, of course you want to have an impact on the game. Especially when it's still 0-0, you want to help your team and show that there's a lot more in it."

Villas-Boas denies Tottenham bid for Willian

    305441_heroa.jpg

Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas insists his side have not submitted a bid for Anzhi Makhachkala midfielder Willian but admits he admires the Brazilian.

Goal reported on Monday that Liverpool have launched a formal offer of €30 million (£25.6m) for the 25-year-old, while the club are also willing to match the player's £85,000-a-week salary.

When asked if Tottenham have made a bid for Willian, Villas-Boas told reporters: "No, no."

But when asked if he admires the Brazilian, Villas-Boas replied: "Yes. This is a player who I have spoken about in the past, not very long ago.

"He is a player who I appreciate. He belongs to them and I respect them so I wouldn't like to extend myself too much."

Villas-Boas also admits his side are still in the market for further signings before the close of the transfer window.

"We haven't finished. We have a very, very good squad. We have done most of our activity in the market, but we are looking further on that. There is a possibility [of new signings], yes," he said.

    246213_heroa.jpg

Manchester City defender Pablo Zabaleta has signed a new four-year contract that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2017.

The Argentine has made has made 175 appearances for City since signing from Espanyol in 2008, and has emerged as the club's first-choice right-back in recent seasons.

"I have been here for five years and it feels like home. Signing a contract extension with the club makes me feel very happy," he told the club's official website."I feel great here, I like the Premier League, and I think Manchester City are one of the clubs looking for success in the future. It is a club that is very well-organised and when you see that everything works well you want to be here."

"I am sure the fans will respond very well as always. They are a big support for the team week in week out, and hopefully at the end of the season the fans and players can celebrate with a trophy."

    Galliani rules out Milan signings

    282582_heroa.jpg

Adriano Galliani has stated there will be no more signings at AC Milan this summer - bringing an end to their chase for CSKA Moscow forward Keisuke Honda.

After chasing the Japan international for much of the summer, Galliani recently insisted the deal had been put on hold after the two clubs failed to reach an agreement and any prospect of a transfer prior to his contract expiring in December now appears to be dead in the water.

The Rossoneri, however, have secured the services of Cristian Zapata, Riccardo Saponara, Andrea Poli and Jherson Vergara during the summer window.

And Galliani is satisfied with the club's transfer business and believes they have enough quality to build on their third placed finish last seaosn.

"The transfers which we wanted to take place have happened," the 69-year-old told a press conference.

"There is no news on Honda and [Mamadou] Sakho hasn’t been offered to us. This is an ultra-competitive side, with good players."

Milan are ready to lock horns with PSV Eindhoven in a Champions League play-off match on Tuesday, and the CEO is aware of the importance of the encounter.

"PSV are a noble side who have had players such as Ronaldo and Romario in their ranks," he added

"It is one of the most important play-off games, but let us not overload it.

"These games are vital every year, but it is not the most important one in our history."

Galliani concluded by casting a critical eye on the performance of Italian clubs in European competitions in recent years.

He believes the country's lacklustre appearances in the Champions League and the Europa League could backfire, with Portugal overtaking Italy to claim the fourth place in the Uefa ranking sooner rather than later.

"Italy will soon drop down to fifth place in the Uefa ranking because we're just a step away from being surpassed by Portugal."

:love:Van Persie is best striker in the world, says Michu

    306618_heroa.jpg

Michu has labelled Robin van Persie as the best striker in the world after the Dutchman's double against Swansea City on Saturday.

Van Persie, who claimed the golden boot in the Premier League last season, struck twice in Manchester United's 4-1 away win at the Liberty Stadium, with Danny Welbeck matching his contribution.

"He had two chances and he scored two goals, but that is why Manchester United are fighting for the championship," he said.

"For me, to be honest, he is the best striker in the world. He had no clear chances in this game and it is just incredible how he ended up with two goals. It stops with him, he is the best.

"I don't know how many goals he will score this season. A hundred, maybe a thousand! One thing is for sure, he is going to score a lot."

Swansea will now look to bounce back from the loss when they host Petrolul Ploiesti in the first leg of their Europa League play-off tie on Thursday.

Arsenal need to sign a striker, admits Giroud

    306532_heroa.jpg

Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud admits that the club need to sign more players, particularly another striker, if they are to achieve their goals.

The Gunners have only signed Yaya Sanogo this summer, on a free transfer, and have missed out on targets such as Gonzalo Higuain and Luiz Gustavo, though manager Arsene Wenger insists that he is pursuing new faces.

Luis Suarez has been the north Londoners' highest-profile target so far this summer but Liverpool have held firm after two bids, with Reds boss Brendan Rodgers declaring the situation "resolved".

Giroud told reporters in France: "In my opinion, it is important that the club sign another striker but it takes time, especially if it is a big-name player.

"I know what my job is and what I'm capable of. I just focus on myself and my ability. The manager is counting on me so I'm not thinking about [potential new arrivals] too much."

The Gunners' frustrations in the transfer market this summer were reflected in the atmosphere as Arsenal lost 3-1 to Aston Villa on the opening day of the Premier League, with the club's Supporters Trust and the Black Scarf movement both writing to the board in concern.

Muller: Bayern have a score to settle with Chelsea

    289797_heroa.jpg

Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller feels his team "have a score to settle" against Chelsea ahead of their European Super Cup tie with the Blues on August 30.

The Blues won the 2011-12 Champions League final against the Bavarians 4-3 on penalties, but the Germans eventually bounced back by securing the treble the following campaign.

But despite the success, Muller says his team are ready to retaliate for the defeat two seasons ago, when they meet Jose Mourinho's side in Prague at the end of the month.

"We still have a score to settle," the 23-year-old told the club's official website.

"We can't make the lost Champions League final [in 2012] forgotten.

"However, you don't always reach the European Super Cup final, so we will try to win this title with a vengeance."

Muller also took the time to praise the club's new signings Thiago Alcantara, Mario Gotze and Jan Kirchhoff.

"They bring a lot of quality into the team. We don't have to say much about Thiago and Mario. Both have shown what they're capable of at a very high level already.

"But Jan is very talented as well, he will strengthen our defence."

And speaking of the defence, Muller believes that this is the one area his team needs to improve in order to build upon their treble-winning 2012-13 campaign.

"We already have a lot of creativity and different possibilities to score goals going forward.

"Therefore, our main focus is on the defence in the upcoming weeks."

Pep Guardiola's men are currently preparing for the Bavarian derby against Nurnberg on August 24.

Ancelotti wrong over Casillas - Valdes

    307322_heroa.jpg

Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes believes Carlo Ancelotti was wrong to pick Diego Lopez over Iker Casillas for Real Madrid's opening day win over Betis.

Casillas had a hard time under former Blancos coach Jose Mourinho during the Portuguese's last season at the Santiago Bernabeu, which eventually resulted in the goalkeeper being benched for five months.

Lopez was brought in from Sevilla in January and was installed as the club's first choice keeper, a trend that continued on Sunday with Casillas left out of the side and Valdes has admitted his astonishment at the decision.

"I was surprised that Casillas was a substitute," the 31-year-old told El Mundo Deportivo.

"At the Confederations Cup he did quite well after a difficult personal situation and months without playing.

"I've seen Iker do the impossible, for me he is the best,

"I'm surprised by this decision, but it's not my club and I have not much to say about that.

"But he is the best. I would like to see him play more, it's a challenge for me to face him."

Barcelona are currently preparing for their trip to Atletico Madrid on August 21, while Ancelotti's men will face Granada five days later.

'La Liga is boring' - Simeone slams Barca & Madrid domination

    300140_heroa.jpg

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone has branded La Liga "a boring championship" due to Barcelona and Real Madrid's domination.

Los Colchoneros finished third in Spain last term to only the Clasico duo and capped a brilliant campaign with triumph in the Copa del Rey against their city rivals.

However, when asked whether his side could muster a title challenge this time out, the Argentine was quick to lament the two giants' domestic dominance.

"No, I absolutely do not," the 43-year-old told reporters. "Madrid and Barcelona play a different league. This is a boring championship.

"We'll have to wait for television distribution to change because now the league is only between two teams."

Two of Atletico's next three games are against Barca - who conquered Levante 7-0 on Sunday - in the Supercopa de Espana, either side of a clash with Rayo Vallecano.

Chicharito rejected Valencia move, says agent

    273387_heroa.jpg

Manchester United striker Chicharito rejected the chance to move to Valencia because he wants to triumph at Old Trafford, according to his agent.

The Mexico international found chances somewhat limited last season and rumours in some circles suggested that he could leave the club following the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson.

But Eduardo Hernandez has rubbished reports that his client wants to leave the Premier League champions and reiterated his commitment to succeeding in England.

"Of course he wants to play more, to have more minutes, to participate more, but he wants to do it at United, he wants to defend the title and go far in the Champions League," he told El Universal.

"The interest from Valencia was real. He had the chance to speak with the sporting director [Braulio Vazquez] but Javier, I reiterate, wants to stay at Manchester United, this is the challenge. He was very grateful to Valencia and the other clubs who called him.

"It's not a question of money - we didn't even talk about that subject, there's only one subject for Javier: he wants to play and be a starter at United."

Chicharito scored 10 goals in 22 appearances last term and is working hard to ensure that he features in the plans of Ferguson's successor, David Moyes.

"He knows it's a very competitive club and that he has to fight to play every day, in the dressing room and on the training ground, but he's not scared, he says he's more motivated than ever," Hernandez added.

"[His outlook] is the same as when he moved to English football; to triumph. Now, with the new manager, he has a lot of hopes, a big desire to play and to grow as a footballer. This season is a new challenge for him.

"He wants to triumph in England. He knows that a starting spot comes with working hard and he has to take advantage of the opportunities that come his way, like he did with Alex Ferguson."

The 25-year-old sat out Saturday's 4-1 win over Swansea City after recently recovering from injury.

Villas-Boas: Soldado can be chief Tottenham goalscorer

    306926_heroa.jpg

Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas backs new signing Roberto Soldado to take on the mantle of goalscorer-in-chief from Gareth Bale.

The Spanish forward, who joined Spurs for €30 million from Valencia this summer, bagged the only goal on his debut in a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on Sunday.

And Villas-Boas believes that the new man is ready to rival Bale, who netted 21 times last season and was absent on Sunday with a foot injury, as the club's 20-goals-a-season man.

"Of course - his career speaks for him," the Spurs boss told reporters. "To see him so confidently step up and score on the same side as he did against Espanyol was important for us.

"It was good to see him out there. He created some chances. Not only that but we celebrate our first official penalty after [being awarded none] last season - and even more."

While the Bale transfer saga continues, the Welshman is unlikely to feature for anyone in August through injury and Villas-Boas reckons that the performance on Sunday showed that Tottenham can win and perform without their star man.

"The player is injured and is not available for selection and is not likely to start either the Tbilisi [in the Europa League on Thursday] or Swansea [next Sunday] games," the Portuguese explained.

"I am very happy. It was a good performance. We had good chances throughout the whole 90 minutes and stayed strong in the final few minutes to take it to the final whistle but, overall, it is a deserved win."

And the Tottenham manager was most impressed with how quickly his new signings took to the Premier League, enthusing: "Bearing in mind that the Premier League is a different proposition from the leagues they have played in in terms of intensity and passion, I think the new players did extremely well. I am pleased for them."

Xavi: Barca didn't do tactics last year

    307024_heroa.jpg

Xavi has revealed that Barcelona rarely did tactical training last season and believes new coach Gerardo Martino's methods paid off in their 7-0 win over Levante on Sunday.

The Blaugrana began their season in style as goals from Alexis Sanchez, Lionel Messi, Dani Alves, Xavi and Pedro propelled the reigning champions to the top of La Liga.

The veteran midfielder claimed that Tito Vilanova's time in New York recovering from cancer surgery affected their training but praised the hands-on approach that his successor has taken since arriving in July.

"Last year we trained very little tactically when Tito was away," the 33-year-old told Mundo Deportivo after the match. "As a result, we missed our usual automatism.

"Martino is a serious and hard-working coach who is close to the players - everything we do is consensual. He has entered the team wary [of making too many changes].

"The coaches have always relied on me, respected any injuries I have had and I'm happy to play in this team all of my life."

Sergio Busquets was also keen to praise Martino, while revealing his satisfaction with the club's current tactics off the ball.

"Pressing the opposition greatly helps players who are in midfield because everyone is going forwards and can help us in retrieving the ball," he said.

"Last year was a tough season and we had many changes. We lacked the stability that we needed. Now the coach has tweaked tactical aspects and that makes us very comfortable."

Alexis, who opened the scoring, stressed the importance of taking his goalscoring form from pre-season into competitive matches while suggesting that Messi's early substitution made perfect sense.

"We're going all out to win. I'm being given a lot of encouragement and the game was very important for me.

"Things are going very well with Martino and this victory is a result of all the hard work we've been putting in over recent weeks.

"We have games close together at the moment, with one on Wednesday and another next Sunday, and we'll need Messi for all of them. He's going to be vital to us if we're going to win trophies this season."

Barca take on Atletico Madrid on Wednesday at the Vicente Calderon in the first leg of the Supercopa de Espana before their first away game of La Liga against Malaga at the weekend.

Manchester United will fight for Rooney, says Carrick

    306642_heroa.jpg

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick insists that the club will fight to support Wayne Rooney after the striker returned to the first team on Saturday.

Rooney is keen to leave Old Trafford this summer and has attracted concrete interest from Chelsea but was given a 30-minute run-out by David Moyes in the 4-1 win at Swansea City.

The 27-year-old laid on goals for Robin van Persie and Danny Welbeck, despite having played only an hour for England on Wednesday during pre-season, and Carrick reacted positively when asked if he was pleased to see his team-mate return to action.

"Yes. I thought [Rooney] came on and looked good," the midfielder told reporters. "He set up two goals and that's what he's all about.

"He's a real threat. He got a bit of a whack [on his Achilles] when he made Danny's second but I'm sure he'll be all right. He's a big Manchester United player. He's one of us and we all stick together.

"When we're on the pitch we fight for each other and do what we can for Wayne. He's certainly part of that."

United fans greeted Rooney's arrival with cheers at the Liberty Stadium but Carrick did not expect any less.

"He's given this club an awful lot so the fans support him and we support him," he added. "As I said, we stick together. It was a good day."

Phil Jones was also pleased to see the fans' warm reception. "That was great," the youngster enthused. "He is a fantastic player and he did well when he came on. He came on and did the job. He did well. The manager and all the lads are pleased."

Following Chelsea's 2-0 victory against Hull City Tigers on Sunday, manager Jose Mourinho admitted that he is still trying to sign Rooney but insisted that he has not approached the forward illegally.

    Wenger: Negativity can spread quickly

    306684_heroa.jpg

Arsene Wenger warns that negativity could spread quickly in Arsenal's squad following their season-opening defeat against Aston Villa.

Despite taking the lead through Olivier Giroud, Wenger's men slumped to a 3-1 loss following Christian Benteke's double and Antonio Luna's strike.

Arsenal were booed off at the final whistle but the 63-year-old believes that his side's campaign will be built on the result of their Champions League play-off tie against Fenerbahce on Wednesday.

"There's always a lot of dangers in a team as it's a human activity multiplied by 25. That means negativity can arrive quickly and spread quickly," Wenger told reporters.

"But it's the first game of the season and we want to bounce back. I believe our season will depend on how we respond to this defeat.

"What is important is to rebuild the confidence of the team before Wednesday night. That's a massive game for us but we'll bounce back because the spirit is good. We are short but we can only play with the players we have.

"Even if you go on the Eiffel Tower and you throw the money away, you have to play with the players you have."
