Manchester United & Everton agree £24m Fellaini fee

Manchester United have agreed a £24 million fee with Everton for midfielder Marouane Fellaini, Goal understands.

The clubs have a verbal understanding and are now thrashing out the minor details of the deal, including payment structures, while Everton are not willing to complete the transfer until they have signed James McCarthy from Wigan as the Belgian’s replacement.

As of Monday morning, no transfer request had been submitted by Fellaini.

    MANCHESTER UNITED LATEST
1/2 Man Utd are 1/2 with BetVictor to sign Leighton Baines
However, both clubs fully expect Fellaini to join United before the transfer window closes at 11pm, but Leighton Baines’ future is looking more uncertain.

Everton value the England left-back at £20m and are continuing to rebuff United’s advances, despite the player privately expressing his desire to leave Goodison Park.

Roberto Martinez, the Merseysiders' manager, has been preparing for Fellaini's departure this summer but he is desperate to keep hold of Baines as the 28-year-old is considered vital to the team's style of play.

United manager David Moyes has been equally desperate to strengthen his midfield this summer and turned to 25-year-old Fellaini after missing out on Thiago Alcantara and Cesc Fabregas.

The Old Trafford club are also looking to complete a deadline day deal for Athletic Bilbao playmaker Ander Herrera but will have to pay the €36m buyout clause in his contract.

Everton, meanwhile, are already looking to reinvest the money from Fellaini’s departure with a £12.5m move for McCarthy while Martinez is also lining up a deal for Manchester City duo Gareth Barry and Joleon Lescott.

DONE DEAL: Ozil signs for Arsenal

    312620_heroa.jpg

The Germany star has completed his stunning £40 million move from Real Madrid to the Emirates, signing a five-year contract with the Premier League side

Mesut Ozil has sealed a spectacular £40 million move to Arsenal after signing a five-year contract, Goal understands.

The Gunners have smashed their transfer record to land the Germany international, who underwent the second part of his medical in Munich on Monday after agreeing personal terms with the club.

Goal has learned that Ozil has signed a deal worth £130,000-a-week that will run until 2018 after Real Madrid gave the green light to his departure.

He will comfortably become Arsenal’s highest-paid player as well as the club’s record signing, after Arsene Wenger sanctioned the first £20m-plus transfer in their history.

    THE VIEW FROM GERMANY
For the majority of people in Germany Mesut Ozil’s move to Arsenal has come as a huge surprise. Arsenal are a well-respected club in Germany but are no longer considered in the same class as Manchester United, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich or Barcelona.

However, with the World Cup coming up next summer it is essential Ozil is playing first team football on a regular basis as he is a fundamental part of the national team. Certainly his arrival will be a massive signing for the Gunners – this is a ame changing move from Arsene Wenger.

Goal exclusively revealed on Sunday that Arsenal were in advanced discussions with Real to sign Ozil before Monday night’s transfer deadline.

The two clubs agreed a £40m fee before Ozil’s representatives began discussing personal terms with senior Arsenal officials.

An agreement was reached late on Monday morning, as was revealed by Goal, before Ozil underwent medical tests in Germany, where he had been based as the national team prepare for their forthcoming World Cup qualifiers.

Arsenal are hoping to sign at least three players on deadline day as they try to make amends for a frustrating summer of transfer activity at the club.

As revealed by Goal, goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano has already had a medical, which he passed on Monday morning, and has agreed the terms of a season-long loan from Palermo. Arsenal are also in talks with Chelsea about a season-long loan move for Demba Ba.

The Gunners have still not abandoned hope of signing Angel Di Maria, also from Real, for £25.8m.

The Gunners tabled a £25.6m bid for Di Maria last week and the offer is still believed to be on the table. However, the Argentine winger has begun the season in impressive form and is reluctant to cut his ties with the Bernabeu.

Manchester United target Athletic Bilbao's Ander Herrera

    155819348_2996763.jpg

The Premier League champions looked short of ideas in attack during Sunday's 1-0 defeat at Liverpool - and Red Devils manager David Moyes is thought to be determined to add 24-year-old playmaker Herrera to his options having had an opening bid of £25m turned down on Thursday.

Sky Sports La Liga expert Guillem Balague tweeted: "United have offered 36 for Herrera. Herrera will have to pass medical and United pay it all in cash but deal practically done."

Herrera, who won the European U21 Football Championship with Spain in 2011, was left out of the Bilbao side for Sunday's 3-1 defeat by Real Madrid.
United missed out on summer transfer targets Thiago Alcantara and Cesc Fabregas of Barcelona - but as well as closing in on Herrera, they are set to make late swoops for Everton's Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines.

Leon Osman hopes the Toffees can hang on to United targets Fellaini and Baines but insists the club would find a way of coping without the pair.
Should they leave, Everton have been linked with moves for Wigan's James McCarthy, Manchester City's Gareth Barry and Chelsea left-back Ryan Bertrand.

And Osman believes Everton will be strong enough to manage without them.
"As with any team, no player is bigger than the club. If someone goes, you move on, you adapt, you find new ways of playing without those players," he said.

"You will end up getting new players in who will make you stronger in different areas. Whatever happens come Monday night or Tuesday morning, we will move on and make ourselves strong."

Everton eye double Barry & Lescott swoop

    213321_heroa.jpg

Everton are considering a double deadline day swoop for Manchester City duo Gareth Barry and Joleon Lescott, Goal understands.

The Etihad Stadium hierarchy are keen to offload Barry, and will sell to the Toffees for between £2 million and £3m.

They would even countenence a loan move for the former Aston Villa man, contributing 40 per cent of his £120,000 weekly wage to lessen the burden on any potential suitor.

Barry would be in line for a £1.5m pay-off should he leave the Etihad Stadium on a permanent deal, as reported by Goal on Sunday.

City have also placed a £4 million pricetag on Lescott, who has one year left on the £90,000-per-week contract that he signed upon leaving Goodison Park in 2009.

No official approach has yet been made by the Merseyside outfit, but manager Roberto Martinez was at the club's Finch Farm training ground before 07:00BST on Monday morning as he prepares for a busy day in the transfer market.

Rumours have circulated that Manchester United target Marouane Fellaini will hand in a transfer request in order to force through a move to Old Trafford ahead of the 23:00BST deadline.

Wigan chairman Dave Whelan claimed on Sunday that the Toffees had seen a bid, thought to be worth £10m, rejected for midfielder James McCarthy.

Everton left-back Leighton Baines is also on the radar for Manchester United, though it has been reported that he is likely to stay at Goodison Park.

Manchester City forward Negredo eyes starting role

    311665_heroa.jpg

Alvaro Negredo has warned his Manchester City team-mate Edin Dzeko that he is ready to take his place in Manuel Pellegrini's starting line-up.

The Spaniard, a €24 million signing from Sevilla over the summer, has seen his action in a blue shirt restricted to just two substitute appearances despite scoring twice as many goals as his fellow Bosnian forward.

But Negredo, who opened the scoring in a hard-fought 2-0 win over Hull City Tigers at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday after replacing Dzeko at half-time, is hoping his goals can help him force his way into the starting XI.

"Of course it’s hard being on the bench but that’s how things are at the moment," the 28-year-old told reporters.

"The manager has decided that Edin will start, so all I can do to try to change that is to keep on working in training and be ready whenever he calls on me from the bench.

"He [Pellegrini] hasn’t said anything at all to me. He’s just said that Edin is playing from the start, so all I can do is work.

"I’ll never get used to being on the bench, obviously, but that’s the same for everyone - we all want to play and only 11 can and it’s up to the manager to decide.

"But each goal means the team gets a win, it helps me keep my confidence up and makes sure I keep improving."

With two goals already to his name and one controversially ruled out against Newcastle on the opening weekend, Negredo believes he is adapting well to life in the Premier League and thinks he can improve even further.

"I like it [the Premier League]. It’s just what I was expecting - a lot of coming and going and the players have so much quality that they can keep the ball," he continued.

"There are lots of changes of possession and it’s very intense. But I’m happy, it’s to my taste and hopefully I’ll keep getting better."

Isco: Real Madrid want clean sweep

    312159_heroa.jpg

Isco says Real Madrid want to win every competition they take part in following their good start to the 2013-14 campaign.

The Santiago Bernabeu side have beaten Betis, Granada and Athletic Bilbao in their opening three Liga games and Isco, who scored a double against Athletic, is full of ambition for the remainder of the season.

"The team is getting better with each match and our aim is to win everything," Isco was quoted as saying on the Madrid website.

"We are playing well at the start of the season and that is how we should continue for the rest of the year.

"We are just starting and there is a lot of room for improvement."

The attacking midfielder then went on to discuss the stiff competition for places at Madrid following the arrival of Gareth Bale and stressed that the team is all that matters.

He added: "It’s good that there is competition in the changing room. We are gradually getting to know each other and we should all help each other out on the pitch so that everything goes well for the team."

The 21-year-old has netted three goals in as many games since joining Madrid from Malaga this summer.
