:(Manchester City 4-1 Manchester United: Moyes humiliated on derby debut

    320194hp2.jpg

Manchester United were consigned to their worst Premier League start in nine years as they suffered a 4-1 defeat to Manchester City.

Manuel Pellegrini was an emphatic winner in the battle of the Manchester derby debutants in the dugout on Sunday, as his side ruthlessly took apart David Moyes' reigning champions at the Etihad Stadium.

Sergio Aguero opened the scoring in impressive fashion as he volleyed home early in the first half, before Yaya Toure forced the ball over the line just before the break to put City firmly in the ascendency.

And, after another well-taken goal from Aguero - his fifth in six derby appearances - Samir Nasri completed the rout with 50 minutes gone as he sent a side-footed effort past the helpless David de Gea.

A late consolation goal from Wayne Rooney, which came courtesy of a brilliant free-kick, will have done little to lighten the mood among the United camp ahead of a midweek League Cup clash with fierce rivals Liverpool.

The absence of Robin van Persie from the visitors' squad made headlines, with the prolific Dutchman omitted with a groin strain. And, although United were boosted by the return of Danny Welbeck, they were faced with the unenviable task of keeping an opposition pairing of Alvaro Negredo and Aguero quiet at the other end.

Their chances of doing so appeared slim in the opening exchanges, as City began with impressive fluency despite the frenetic nature of the occasion.

And they were rewarded for their endeavour after just 16 minutes when Aguero opened the scoring with a fabulous left-footed finish from inside the box. The Argentinian had plenty of work still to do after Aleksandar Kolarov had picked up the ball from Nasri on the overlap before crossing, but he controlled his volley beautifully to give the hosts the lead.

Kolarov's adventurous running from full-back caused problems again a few moments later, as the Serbian went down in the area following a challenge from Chris Smalling, but referee Howard Webb showed little interest in awarding a penalty.

Despite a lack of further breakthroughs, City continued to dominate possession, with the frustration of the visitors clearly evident when Rooney picked up a needless booking. The England international was given short shrift by the dominate City centre-back pairing of Matija Nastasic and Vincent Kompany in the aftermath, and Antonio Valencia's woeful effort from the edge of the box was the nearest United went to getting back into the game.

Their hopes of taking anything from the game were severely dented on the stroke of half-time, as Negredo rose highest to flick on a corner and the unmarked Toure reacted quickly to divert the ball in off his knee from close range.

Moyes could at least take solace from the fact that the interval offered an opportunity to disrupt City's dominance, but just two minutes into the second half the hosts grabbed a third. Negredo was the provider again, the Spaniard holding up the ball brilliantly under the attentions of Nemanja Vidic in the box before turning and teeing up Aguero for a close-range volley he could hardly miss.

And City fans already in dreamland saw their day get even better just three minutes later, as Kompany's rampaging run from the back ended in a lofted cross that Nasri emphatically turned home at the back post.

The hosts were happy to concede possession to United and attack on the counter given the size of their lead, but a long-distance effort from Marouane Fellaini, which Joe Hart easily kept out, was the best the visitors could muster despite controlling the ball for long periods.

United's day was perhaps best summed up by a flurry of activity in the opposition goalmouth that saw Patrice Evra hit the post and Rooney somehow denied by the legs of Hart when his well-struck effort from inside the box looked bound for the back of the net.

The former Everton striker would get his goal eventually, however, curling in brilliantly from a set-piece to add some respectability to the scoreline for the visitors.

Real Madrid 4-1 Getafe: Ronaldo nets double in comeback victory

    320260hp2.jpg

Real Madrid were made to come from behind to record a 4-1 victory over city rivals Getafe at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday.

Angel Lafita gave the visitors a shock lead after just a matter of minutes but Carlo Ancelotti's side were soon ahead thanks to strikes from Pepe and Cristiano Ronaldo turned the game on its head before the break.

Isco put the three points beyond any doubt midway throught the second period before Ronaldo rounded off the victory with a sublime flick on Sami Khedira's cross.

However, the gloss was taken off the scoreline by concerns over the fitness of Gareth Bale, who missed out on what would have been his home league debut after suffering an injury in the warm-up.The pre-match headlines were dominated by the former Tottenham man, who was pencilled in to start behind Karim Benzema in attack, but failed to make the starting XI after pulling up with what was believed to be a hamstring problem.

Isco retained his place in the side as a result, with Carlo Ancelotti making just three changes from the side that won 6-1 against Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League in midweek.

Diego Lopez, Nacho and Asier Illarramendi all came in place of Iker Casillas, Sergio Ramos and Luka Modric.

The early stages were frantic as Ronaldo squandered two great chances following Isco’s low cross before Getafe took a shock fifth-minute lead.

Ronaldo lost possession to Miku in his own half and the Venezuelan laid the ball off to Lafita, whose effort from outside the area took a significant deflection off Pepe before flying past Lopez.

That stunned the hosts into life and after a sustained spell of pressure, they equalised after 19 minutes.Angel Di Maria floated a magnificent free-kick towards the back post and after Miguel Angel Moya had denied the unmarked Ronaldo, Pepe knocked in the rebound from point-blank range.

It was no more than Real deserved, and Ronaldo made amends for his earlier error in the 34th minute as he converted from the penalty spot after Michel had handled the Portuguese’s initial free-kick.

Getafe found their hosts particularly elusive in attack in the early part of the second
half, yet the wasteful Benzema could not capitalise as he shot straight at Moya from a central position.

Moya was helpless in the 59th minute, however. Ronaldo took a quick free kick on the left flank, allowing Isco to burst across the penalty area and curl an unstoppable effort home for his fourth league goal of the season.

Ancelotti’s side were not content with three goals, though, and they continued to bombard the Getafe goal.

Initially that was without reward as Moya denied Ronaldo before Alexis Ruano deflected an Isco effort wide.

The much-maligned Benzema then missed two more chances in the final 20 minutes as he headed crosses from Isco and Daniel Carvajal off target, while Ronaldo struck the post before Getafe's defeat was compounded four minutes from time as last-man Michel was shown a red card for a foul on substitute Jese Rodriguez.
That seemed to be that but things got even worse when Real added a fourth in stoppage time, as Ronaldo produced a clever backheeled finish from Sami Khedira's right-wing cross to continue Real's unbeaten start to the season.

Juventus 2-1 Verona: Llorente fires Bianconeri to victory

    320137hp2.jpg

Fernando Llorente scored on his first start for Juventus as a 2-1 victory over Hellas Verona got them back to winnings ways in Serie A.

Despite dominating the early exchanges, the hosts fell behind in the 36th minute as Fabrizio Cacciatore knocked home from close range, but that goal served as a catalyst for the champions to launch a comeback.

Carlos Tevez, who had squandered an earlier chance, equalised in style five minutes before the break and then Llorente nodded in right at the end of the first period.

That proved to be enough to give Juve the points after draws against Inter and Copenhagen in the last week.

Following their Champions League exploits in Denmark on Tuesday, coach Antonio Conte shook things up by making five changes.

Marco Storari, Andrea Barzagli, Mauricio Isla, Kwadwo Asamoah and Llorente all came into the starting XI, replacing Gianluigi Buffon, Stephan Lichtsteiner, Giorgio Chiellini, Federico Peluso and Fabio Quagliarella.

Verona came into the game off the back of a 2-0 victory over Sassuolo, with three changes from that side as Domenico Maietta, Raphael Martinho and Juan Ignacio Gomez had their respective places taken by Alejandro Gonzalez, Matteo Bianchetti and Massimo Donati.

Juventus seized control early on against the Serie A new boys, but they struggled to create clear-cut chances during the first half hour.

Tevez wasted a good chance 30 minutes in, and it was not long before Hellas made them pay for their profligacy as they capitalised from a corner when Cacciatore tapped in from close range.

Tevez made amends before the break, however. Leonardo Bonucci played an impressive throughball into the right side of the area, and the Argentinian fired a shot past Rafael into the far corner.

He almost added another too when he hit the post from distance, but Conte’s side did go into the break ahead as Llorente headed in Arturo Vidal’s cross from the right on the stroke of half-time.

The visitors started the second half positively and Jorginho had a chance to equalise, only for the excellent Bonucci to poke the ball away with a last-ditch tackle.

Juventus did not test Rafael again until just before the hour mark when Paul Pogba twice tried his luck from distance, and although the goalkeeper almost made a mess of both efforts, he was not beaten.

Frenchman Pogba seemed determined to score and he once again went for goal from outside of the area in the 66th minute, but his curling effort flew just over the crossbar.

Conte's side continued to press for late goals, but Verona remained solid at the back - although a late comeback never appeared likely.

Sassuolo 0-7 Inter: Nerazzurri storm to rampant win

    320091hp2.jpg

Inter dispatched Sassuolo 7-0 on Sunday to extend their unbeaten run to four games and move to the top of Serie A.Walter Mazzarri's side were dominant from start to finish, with Rodrigo Palacio setting the tone in the seventh minute with the game's first goal.

Saphir Taider's strike and a Raffaele Pucino own goal gave Inter a 3-0 lead at the break before Diego Milito struck twice in the second half, and Ricky Alvarez and Esteban Cambiasso also scored.Milito's first goal was widely celebrated, with the Argentine netting in his comeback appearance after a serious knee injury.

The 34-year-old, who had not played for Inter in over seven months, came off the bench in the second half and produced a smart finish before Cambiasso added a 20-yard strike. And there was still time for Milito to grab a second, as he tapped in Fredy Guarin's assist to cap off a sensational victory.

Inter's position at the top of the table may only last a matter of hours but their fans will enjoy it, having endured a disappointing campaign last season, in which they finished ninth.Mazzarri's new-look Inter have conceded just one goal in their five competitive matches this season, and they have now scored 17 goals.

The Nerazzurri were unchanged from the team that drew 1-1 with Juventus last week, while rock-bottom Sassuolo – who had lost all three of their Serie A fixtures this season – shuffled their pack. They made three changes, including the recall of former Udinese striker Antonio Floro Flores, but were behind inside the first 10 minutes.

After a spell of Inter pressure that saw them win multiple early corners, Japan international Yuto Nagatomo burst down the left flank before producing a superb cross for Palacio to tap in.Jonathan had an effort well blocked for Inter as they pressed for a second, before Algerian Taider found himself in the right place at the right time.He followed in a saved Palacio effort to score easily past Pomini, and the goals kept on coming for the visitors.

Their third, scored in the 33rd minute, made a mockery of Sassuolo's defence, as a long ball from the terrific Guarin bounced in between Jonathan Rossini and Pucino.
With Haider lurking, Pucino panicked and steered a header over a stranded Pomini as Inter's travelling fans celebrated again.Jonathan almost scored a fourth for Inter, but his effort was well saved, while Floro Flores had two opportunities before the break, the second of which forced a smart stop from Samir Handanovic.

Alvarez was also a constant threat for Inter and after going close early in the second half, he got himself on the scoresheet, tapping in another rebound from a Palacio shot, before Milito enjoyed his moment in the sun in the 64th minute.

Alvarez was the provider, getting to the byline before cutting back for Milito, and Cambiasso got in on the act with 15 minutes remaining, scoring an excellent curling finish on his left foot.

Milito wrapped up the win with an easy second, seven minutes from time, as Inter scored more than six goals in a league match for the first time since 1996.

Crystal Palace 0-2 Swansea: Michu & Dyer provide easy victory

    320099hp2.jpg

Early goals in each half from Michu and Nathan Dyer helped Swansea record a comfortable 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

The Swans made a flying start and were ahead after just two minutes when Michu blasted home, while Dyer swept in a loose ball three minutes after the break to double the winning margin.

Palace sit second bottom of the table following their third defeat in 27 home matches.

Home manager Ian Holloway, serving the last of his two-game touchline ban, made three changes from last Saturday's defeat at Manchester United, with Barry Bannan coming in for the suspended Kagisho Dikgacoi for his debut, while Jose Campana and Dwight Gayle made way for Adlene Guedioura and Cameron Jerome.

Laudrup, meanwhile, made five alterations to the Swansea side that was so impressive in winning 3-0 at Valencia in the Europa League on Thursday.

Ashley Williams, Ben Davies, Jonjo Shelvey, Wayne Routledge and debutant Alvaro Vazquez all came in to replace Jordi Amat, Dwight Tiendalli, Jonathan De Guzman, Alejandro Pozuelo and Wilfried Bony.

But it was Michu who gave the visitors the perfect start, as Shelvey's pass ricocheted kindly off Routledge into his path before the Spaniard fired under the legs of Julian Speroni after just two minutes.

And it was almost two a minute later, as Chico Flores met Shelvey's corner at the back post only to see his effort cannon back off the woodwork.

Laudrup's side were well in control, and Michu should have doubled his tally midway through the half but he inexplicably decided to attempt a backheel towards Vazquez with the goal at his mercy.

The Spaniard then went close again on the half-hour mark, Danny Gabbidon stretching out a leg to deflect his goalbound volley just over the crossbar.

It took 35 minutes for the hosts to muster a meaningful effort on goal - Guediora's strike from 30 yards flying straight into the arms of Michel Vorm - before Angel Rangel almost scored a spectacular second for Swansea when his sweetly struck volley was beaten behind by Speroni.

The visitors picked up where they left off after the break, and were rewarded for their dominance when they doubled their advantage almost immediately.

Vazquez saw his shot parried by Speroni, but picked up the loose ball on the byline and cut it back for the unmarked Dyer to sweep home from 10 yards.

Vazquez then wasted a golden opportunity to score on his Swans bow in the 56th minute, firing over with only Speroni to beat following good interplay between Michu, Dyer and Shelvey.

Palace nearly got themselves back into the game with 20 minutes left to play with their first effort of note in the second period, but substitute Gayle's effort from outside the area was deflected narrowly wide.Holloway's men got little joy out of the Swansea defence in the closing stages as the visitors inflicted the Eagles' fourth defeat in five Premier League outings this season.

Cardiff City 0-1 Tottenham: Last-gasp Paulinho winner lifts Spurs to second

    320230hp2.jpg

Paulinho's dramatic injury-time winner sent Tottenham joint top of the Premier League with a 1-0 victory at Cardiff City on Sunday.

Substitute Erik Lamela broke down the right-hand side in the 93rd minute and played a low cross into the Brazil international, who impudently flicked the ball into the net.

The win was a just reward for the visitors after they dominated large parts of the game, but Paulinho's strike was harsh on Cardiff goalkeeper David Marshall.

Marshall made superb stops from Roberto Soldado and Christian Eriksen in the first-half, before repeating the trick after the break to deny Paulinho and Soldado again.

Hugo Lloris was rarely tested at the other end as the hosts concentrated on preserving a point, although substitute Peter Odemwingie did come close to a debut goal.

Malky Mackay made two changes to his Cardiff side, with experienced pair Craig Bellamy and Marshall both returning to the starting line-up. Bellamy took the captain’s armband as he replaced Don Cowie, while Marshall came in for Joe Lewis in goal.

There was just the one change for the visitors from their win over Norwich, meanwhile, as Andre Villas-Boas brought in Kyle Naughton for the injured Danny Rose at left-back.

Cardiff started at a ferocious pace and felt their opponents should have been reduced to 10 men in the opening five minutes after Lloris challenged Fraizer Campbell on the edge of the area.

Lloris came sliding out towards the perimeter of his penalty box and cleared the ball with his hand, with the home side insistent the France international had done so outside the area. However, referee Mark Clattenburg waved play on.

When Tottenham did get their attacking game going, they found Marshall in fine form, the 28-year-old making good saves to deny Soldado and Eriksen.

The first came as the former Valencia striker met a low Kyle Walker cross only for the keeper to get down well to deny him, while the second saw Marshall react superbly after Eriksen latched onto the loose ball after another Soldado effort had been blocked.

Marshall maintained his performance in the second half with another wonderful save from Soldado.

The Spain international looked set to break the deadlock after reacting quickest to the loose ball following a Gylfi Sigurdsson strike that crashed onto the crossbar, but Marshall made a superb reaction stop with his legs to continue to frustrate the striker.

Mackay then introduced Odemwingie just after the hour, and the Nigerian nearly capped his debut with a goal.

The 32-year-old’s opportunity arrived three minutes after coming on for Campbell, but he sent his shot just wide of Lloris’ goal after beating Jan Vertonghen.

Aron Gunnarsson had the hosts best chance of the game with 10 minutes to play as Odemwingie pulled a perfect ball back from the byline. The midfielder hit his effort first time but he leant back and sent the ball flying over the crossbar.

And Villas-Boas' side finally broke the deadlock in stoppage time as Lamela played a one-two with Soldado before finding Paulinho, who got in front of his marker to finish smartly from close range.

Arsenal 3-1 Stoke City: Ozil sets up Gunners treble

    320098hp2.jpg

Mesut Ozil starred as Arsenal made it four consecutive Premier League wins with a 3-1 victory over Stoke City at the Emirates Stadium.

The Germany international had a hand in all three of his side's goals on his home debut as Arsene Wenger's men eased to a comfortable win that sent them top of the Premier League ahead of Sunday'slate fixtures.

Ozil's free kick was parried into the path of Aaron Ramsey to score a fifth-minute opener, before Geoff Cameron cancelled that out for Stoke.

Per Mertesacker put Arsenal back in front at the break, with Ozil supplying the assist, before the £42 million playmaker was on hand again to supply the third for Bacary Sagna to head home his first goal since February 2012 with 18 minutes left.
The only change for the hosts came just prior to the match, with Serge Gnabry called up as a late replacement for Theo Walcott, who was laid low with illness.

Mikel Arteta and Nicklas Bendtner both made their first appearances of the season on the bench. For the visitors, Marko Arnautovic made his first start for the club in place of Matthew Etherington.

Arsenal had won their last six in all competitions going into the clash and they were ahead within five minutes through Ramsey.

Ozil's free kick was parried away by Asmir Begovic and Ramsey followed up to finish at the near post and claim his fourth goal in three games.

Stoke responded well, and they were level through Cameron after 26 minutes, with the American coolly slotting home from outside the area.

Arnautovic saw his volleyed effort come back off the post, with the defender latching onto the rebound to put his side level.

Parity lasted just 10 minutes, though, and as Arsenal pressed forward, they were rewarded once again with the lead when Mertesacker put them back in front nine minutes before the break with his first goal of the season.

Ozil was the architect again as he swung in a corner and Germany international Mertesacker headed towards the far post, with the ball creeping in despite the efforts of the scrambling Begovic.

Olivier Giroud forced an impressive save from Begovic seven minutes after the break, following good work from Gnabry, before the French striker curled an effort over from inside the area soon afterwards.

Marc Wilson then had a sight on goal for Stoke just after the hour mark, but Wojciech Szczesny was equal to it and the Pole was soon required again, gathering a dangerous delivery from Steven N'Zonzi as the visitors applied pressure.

However, Arsenal went two goals clear courtesy of another header after 72 minutes, with Sagna getting his name on the scoresheet as he met another Ozil delivery and looped his header over Begovic and into the far corner.

Ozil was withdrawn to a standing ovation after 79 minutes, with Arteta on in his place, as Arsenal closed out the game to move top of the table.

'Valdes almost killed me with his eyes!'

    307322_heroa.jpg

Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes "almost killed" defender Martin Montoya for a poor back pass against Rayo Vallecano, the young defender has joked.

The Blaugrana beat Rayo Vallecano 4-0 on Saturday, though the hosts almost pulled a goal back when Montoya misjudged a pass, putting the Spain keeper under pressure.

The 22-year-old insisted that the incident was entirely his own doing, absolving the shot-stopper of any potential blame, while adding that Rayo's pitch was in a poor state.

"Valdes almost killed me with his eyes!" he is quoted as saying by Sport. "It was my fault, I was caught off balance.

"The pitch was in very poor condition. We noticed when we were warming up and predicted that it would be a problem."

Barca's next game is against Real Sociedad on Tuesday September 24.

We don't like Martino's rotation policy, says Fabregas

    304381_heroa.jpg

Cesc Fabregas says the Barcelona squad do not like Gerardo Martino's rotation policy but acknowledges they will reap the rewards of playing less games in the second half of the season.

The midfielder scored Barca's fourth in a 4-0 win over Rayo Vallecano on Saturday, in which Pedro was the hero with a hat-trick after being handed a start, and the 26-year-old admits he may have to get used to his new coach's approach to selection.

“It looks like he’s doing it with everyone, even the important players," Fabregas told reporters after the game.

“We don’t like it, those of us who want to play every game, but it’s an intelligent approach and we’ll thank him at the end of the season.”
And despite the Catalans enjoying less possession than their opponents for the first time in 317 games, stemming back to 2008, Fabregas believes that tactically there were positives that came out of the win.

“We’re really happy, these matches are really tough. They are afraid of nothing, they pressure you high up the pitch and they play well,” he added.

“In the second half they were more tired and we managed to take advantage of that, but it’s always difficult for us to win here - they are difficult to beat.
“Football is like this, it offers you variants and if you go up against a tough rival one day, on a small field and they press you - that’s what we’re working on with the Coach.”

:(Moyes embarrassed on derby day as scale of Manchester United task looms large

    davidmoyeswoevmcfc20130922_576x324.jpg

David Moyes took on the impossible job of succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson knowing he faced the sternest of challenges in Manchester United’s early season fixtures, but he could never have anticipated such a humiliating defeat in his first derby.

It was beyond dreadful, a day to forget. Moyes made it clear in his post-match press conference that he had made the players aware in no uncertain that they had produced an unacceptable performance.

The Scot can only hope that the David Moyes hairdryer treatment can have the same galvanising affect as that of his predecessor.

In three major Premier League tests - against Chelsea, Liverpool and City - Moyes has now picked up just one point and scored a solitary goal, Wayne Rooney’s late free-kick here.

The parallels with the 6-1 defeat to City at Old Trafford in 2011-12 are inescapable, the echoes of a day Ferguson described as his “worst ever” in his 26 years in charge of the club.

On that occasion, City scored three goals in the dying minutes to humiliate their rivals; this time United were hung, drawn and quartered within five minutes of the second-half. If anything, it was even worse, so total was City’s dominance from the first whistle.

Moyes pointed to the fixture list as a major reason behind United’s worst start to a campaign since the 2004-05 season. “I think any manager would have found it difficult taking over the club with that run of fixtures. If those games were later in the season I might have had a better understanding.”

Moyes will be grateful that United now have an eminently winnable run of fixtures to ease some of the early pressure and respond to the psychological blow of such a heavy defeat to a title rival.

The visiting supporters, to their credit, stuck behind the team and their manager, chanting throughout and staying until the end of the match despite the uncomfortable taunts from the City fans.

It all started to go wrong for Moyes with the news that Robin van Persie would not risk a painful groin injury, despite training over the last two days.

Moyes admitted the obvious; that United were “second to things” and “never got to grips” with the aggression, speed and technique of the City players.

In the first-half, he bravely tried to turn the tide as he barked instructions from his technical area, imploring Marouane Fellaini to get closer to Yaya Toure, barking at Rio Ferdinand to watch Sergio Aguero’s movement.

In the second-half, he knew the game was up and never once left his seat on the bench, instead ramping up the voltage on the hairdryer before giving United’s players a piece of his mind.

The major question over Moyes on his appointment surrounded his ability to handle the greater pressure, the weekly expectation and how he could pit his wits against the best managers and teams on the continent.

Moyes, after all, failed to win a derby at Liverpool in 11 years as Everton manager and saw his side embarrassed here.

He was handed the impossible job of replacing Sir Alex Ferguson - but with this result he may reflect that it will be even harder than even he imagined.

Sassuolo 0-7 Inter: Nerazzurri storm to rampant win

That attacking PIRELLI BLUE AND BLACK STRIPES ARE BACK :love::love::love::love: They can win Serie A for sure :)
