Neymar: Messi is a true great

    337640_heroa.jpg

Neymar believes Lionel Messi confirmed his status as the best player in the world with his impressive display in Barcelona's 3-1 Champions League victory over AC Milan on Wednesday.

The Argentine attacker netted twice to help Barcelona to the full three points after scoring just once in his previous five games and Neymar believes that his team-mate will soon be back to his usual best after Wednesday's boost.

"Messi is a true great, without question the best in the world," Neymar told the official Uefa website.

"Even he has to struggle a bit in front of goal occasionally, but now it'll be less and less after these two goals and a good result."

The former Santos star then went on to voice his satisfaction with Barcelona's progress in the opening months of the 2013-14 campaign.

"The team is growing, bit by bit."

Barcelona are one of four teams to have already qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League, with Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich and Manchester City booking their ticket this week, too.

Atletico not getting carried away, says Simeone

    337681_heroa.jpg

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone maintained a low-key front following the Vicente Calderon side's qualification for the knockout stages of the Champions League.

The Primera Division outfit beat Austria Wien 4-0 on Wednesday evening to book their ticket for the last-16, but Simeone has stressed that they will not let their success go to their head.

"We are taking things match by match in the Spanish Liga and we have the same philosophy in the Champions League, knowing our chances," the 43-year-old said at a press conference.

"I'm happy with the work of the team, because we took our opportunity to reach the first knockout round.

"In our next group games we can give playing time to other players because they deserve it. Now we will play against two great teams in Zenit and Porto with an element of calm, because we don't have to fight to get through to the next round.

"The team is growing, chances keep coming and that gives more opportunities for our forwards to score."

Atletico resume domestic action on Saturday when they travel to Villarreal.

    Rampaging Ramsey is now world-class

    337689_heroa.jpg

Another big test, another big victory - Arsenal's critics have been watching and waiting for them to stumble and fall like so often before. Yet after beating Borussia Dortmund 1-0 at Signal Iduna Park on Wednesday night, the Gunners are beginning to look like the genuine article.

"Arsenal can win it," acknowledged Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp in the aftermath of the 2013 finalists' shock defeat before offering the caveat: "If they don't play Bayern Munich."

But is the toppling of another teutonic titan even beyond the rejuvenated north London team? The fact that Arsene Wenger's side sit five points clear in the Premier League and top of the 'Group of Death', of course, is in no small part due to the feel-good factor that £40 million club-record signing Mesut Ozil has brought. But the true testament to their growing maturity is that the German playmaker is not their standout performer.

With yet another valuable goal to cap a memorable display, Aaron Ramsey can lay legitimate claims to being the Premier League's top player so far this season - a scenario unthinkable to even the most ardent of Arsenal fans 12 months ago.

The Wales captain - awarded the club's player of the month award for the fourth time in a row on Wednesday - is unrecognisable from the timid midfielder of yesteryear, during a career horribly stalled by a nasty leg break in 2010.

Ten goals in 17 appearances suggests this is finally his season to shine and, allied to his impressive passing, tackling and athleticism, Ramsey can now be considered one of the most dangerous box-to-box midfielders in world football.

Alongside the impeccable Welshman also stand the players like Olivier Giroud, Per Mertesacker and Tomas Rosicky, a trio few would have opted for with a title challenge in mind. However, all three have been simply inspirational during this campaign.

Giroud has found the form and confidence that persuaded Wenger to part with just under £10m last summer - and the France striker now offers the ideal blend of brains and brawn as the target man of a 4-2-3-1 system with goals to boot.

His assist for Ramsey against Dortmund typified his sense of awareness and bravery in leading the line so his team-mates could prosper - a perfect example of what Wenger labelled as a "very mature performance" by his side.

Exposed for his lack of pace in the past, Mertesacker has been the rock at the heart of the Gunners defence, keeping opponents at bay and offering a calming presence to a young back line - with a noticeable impact on Wojciech Szczesny.

Rosicky, meanwhile, has forced his way back into Wenger's plans after spells on the sidelines, operating in advanced positions with an effervescent abandon that belies his years and fully deserves his place in front of younger talents.

With the likes of Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshere, Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain struggling to get a kick, there is a genuine competition for places like never before, as top-class players are forced to watch from the sidelines.

A responsible Gunners fan would urge caution - after all, Arsenal have shown in recent seasons that a tough defeat can have a disastrous impact on a dressing room that has been devoid of real leadership. No medals are usually handed out in November.

An injury to Ramsey or Giroud, the side's only reliable striker, could still derail Wenger's best-laid plans, while the fans could react negatively to a lull in form after such a bright start.

But with two keys wins under their belts in just four days - they beat Liverpool 2-0 on Saturday - it is impossible not to be excited by the potential of this Arsenal squad as they head to Manchester United on Sunday for another big test of their credentials.

Klopp may prefer 'heavy metal' football to Wenger's 'orchestra' but the Gunners have proved they have got the best tunes at the moment. With his huge transfer fee, Ozil is still the conductor but, look a little closer, and it's Wenger's unsung Gunners who are really carrying the beat.

    :cool:Diego Costa receives Spain call

    337066_heroa.jpg

Spain boss Vicente del Bosque has named Brazil-born striker Diego Costa in his squad for this month's games against Guinea and South Africa.

The Atletico Madrid forward has already been capped twice by the land of his birth but both games were friendlies, meaning the 25-year-old, who secured Spanish citizenship during the summer, is free to represent La Roja.

Brazil had called Costa up for their own November internationals, against Honduras and Chile, but he was promptly dropped from the panel after formally confirming his decision to turn out for Spain.

The attacker has been joined in Del Bosque's panel by Atletico team-mate David Villa. Manchester City's in-form forward, Alvaro Negredo, has made the cut but there is no room for Tottenham hitman Roberto Soldado.

Elsewhere, Iker Casillas is once again called upon, even though he remains second-choice to Diego Lopez at Real Madrid for Liga fixtures.

    Spain squad:

Goalkeepers: Iker Casillas (Real Madrid), Victor Valdes (Barcelona), Pepe Reina (Napoli).

Defenders: Alvaro Arbeloa (Real Madrid), Raul Albiol (Napoli), Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid), Alberto Moreno (Sevilla), Juanfran (Levante), Javi Martinez (Bayern Munich), Inigo Martinez (Real Sociedad), Nacho Monreal (Arsenal).

Midfielders: Sergio Busquets (Barcelona), Xabi Alonso (Real Madrid), Koke (Atletico Madrid), Andres Iniesta (Barcelona), Santi Cazorla (Arsenal), Cesc Fabregas (Barcelona), Jesus Navas (Manchester City).

Forwards: Alvaro Negredo (Manchester City), Diego Costa (Atletico Madrid), Pedro (Barcelona), David Villa (Atletico Madrid), Juan Mata (Chelsea).

    Defoe 'delighted' with record-breaking goal

    338194_heroa.jpg

Jermain Defoe expressed his delight after becoming Tottenham's all-time leading goalscorer in Europe in a 2-1 win over Sheriff.

Defoe scored from the spot after 67 minutes to take his tally in European competition to 23 on Thursday as Tottenham booked their place in the last 32 of the Europa League with victory over the Moldovan side.Erik Lamela had given the hosts the lead on the hour mark before Defoe's spot-kick put Andre Villas-Boas' side in command.

Forward Ismail Isa pulled one back for Sheriff, but the plaudits belonged to Defoe, who overtook the mark set by 1972 Uefa Cup winner Martin Chivers.

"It was a frustrating night as they camped in and gave us no space in behind," Defoe told ITV."I had to stay patient and I am delighted to score the goal and take the European scoring record. What an opportunity to do it, I was confident with the penalty.

"I saw Martin Chivers at half-time, he said to me to keep going and I would get the record. He's a legend."

The 31-year-old also reserved praise for Lamela, who scored his first goal for the London club with a smart low finish."Erik Lamela was fantastic tonight," Defoe added."He is strong, good on the ball and it is difficult when you come into a club at a young age. But he made things happen for us, I'm delighted for him."

Zanetti ready to return against Livorno

    337995_heroa.jpg

Inter captain Javier Zanetti has admitted that he hopes to make his long-awaited return to action in Saturday's Serie A clash with Livorno.

The Argentine legend has been out of action since suffering an Achilles injury in April that sparked fears that he might never play again.

However, after making the bench for last weekend's 3-0 over Udinese, the 40-year-old is now itching to make his comeback at San Siro this weekend.

"I am close to my return to the field," the versatile defender told Radio RTL. "In Udine, my team-mates gave us a wonderful victory, even if I remained on the bench.

"But I hope there will be a way for me to play some minutes on Saturday against Livorno."

Meanwhile, Zanetti admitted that he will be sorry to see Massimo Moratti step down as Inter president, as he remains eternally grateful to the oil tycoon for plucking him from obscurity at Banfield 18 years ago.

However, the former Argentina international has no doubt that the Nerazzurri will benefit from Erick Thohir's soon-to-be completed takeover.

"My relationship with Moratti goes beyond the normal ties between a president and a captain," Zanetti confessed.

"I was an unknown and he believed in me. It's something that I will never forget. Indeed, I will always thank him for that.

"He has seen some qualities in the new owners that will help grow this club, so I think it will be an even greater Inter."

Mexico U17 0-3 Nigeria U17: Golden Eaglets are world champions

    338524hp2.jpg

Nigeria Under-17s are world champions after hammering Mexico Under-17s 3-0 to win the 15th edition of the Fifa U17 World Cup on Friday.

An early own-goal by Erick Aguirre, a strike from Kelechi Iheanacho midway through the second half and a late effort from Musa Muhammed were all the highly-talented Golden Eaglets needed to seal a fourth title on Asian soil.

The Africans' win over the defending world and Concacaf champions sees them lift the trophy for a record fourth time, alongside their triumphs of 1985, 1993 and 2007.El Tri dominated the early moments of the tension-soaked encounter but were unable to break through the Nigeria defence.

A few minutes into the match, Ivan Ochoa forced Dele Alampasu to make a brilliant safe when his header was punched for a corner by the goalkeeper.

Mexico’s dominance was short-lived, though, after Aguirre attempted to clear away Taiwo Awoniyi’s pass meant for Musa Yahaya but accidentally put the ball in the back of his own net.

Mexico launched a comeback but their attacking forays were brought under constant check by the Muhammed-anchored defence. Alampasu made another top save midway through the first half, preventing Ulises Jaimes’s header from a free kick from rustling the back of the net.Yahaya went close to doubling the lead on 38 minutes when he rattled the crossbar from distance as Mexico battled to keep the score down.

With less than a minute to the end of the first half, Awoniyi’s acrobatic bicycle kick was parried terrifically by goalkeeper Raul Gudino, who cleared away the Imperial Academy forward’s effort.

Golden Eaglets’ onslaught continued 11 minutes after the restart when Iheanacho put another past a shell-shocked Mexico, after Gudino couldn't hold on to a strike from captain Muhammed.

Mexico U17 boss Raul Gutierrez made all his substitutions midway through the second half but the changes could not lift his side, as the Golden Eaglets stamped their authority on the game.Mexico did fashion a rare chance as the second half wore on, but Ochoa’s header from close range went off target.

However, Muhammed sealed the win with less than nine minutes to play in Abu Dhabi courtesy of a well-taken free kick, after Iheanacho had been fouled by Pedro Teran.

Nigeria now hold the record for the most goals scored in a single U17 World Cup tournament with 26 goals, eclipsing the record set by Germany in 2011.

Monaco 1-1 Evian: Falcao strike not enough to draw hosts level with PSG

    338656hp2.jpg

Radamel Falcao rescued a point for Monaco in their 1-1 draw at home to Evian on Friday as the principality club missed the chance to draw temporarily level with Paris Saint-Germain.

Claudio Ranieri's men went into the game three points adrift of league leaders PSG following their 2-0 defeat to Lille last week, and knew they could ill-afford another setback as they seek to keep pace with the champions at the top of the table.

Monaco made the worst possible start, though, as winger Daniel Wass latched on to a flick-on from Modou Sougou to power an emphatic finish past Danijel Subasic and give the visitors the lead on the 20-minute mark at Stade Louis II.
Evian's advantage proved to be a short one, however, as Colombia international Falcao levelled matters seven minutes later with an unerring finish after being played through by compatriot James Rodriguez.

Both sides pushed to find the winner in the second half, with Olympique de Marseille loanee Sougou spurning several clear-cut opportunities as Evian chased a shock victory.

But it was Lucas Ocampos who came closest to deciding the game, as Monaco's Argentine winger crashed a deflected shot against the crossbar in the closing stages.

However, that proved to be the hosts' final chance as they had to settle for a draw that gives PSG the chance to extend their advantage at the Ligue 1 summit when they host Nice on Saturday.

Quagliarella eager for 'special' Napoli match

    321449_heroa.jpg

Juventus striker Fabio Quagliarella is eagerly anticipating Sunday's Serie A clash with Napoli.

The striker was born in Castellammare di Stabia, a suburb of Naples, and grew up supporting the Partenopei before spending a season playing for the club in 2009-10.

"It's going to be a great game for anyone who loves the sport," he told Juventus Channel.

"We are two extraordinary teams, and I am convinced it will be a great game. It's going to be a special match.

"Napoli are my team, the side that I have always supported. We know that we're going to have to keep errors to a minimum if we're going to win."

Last season's top two sides are currently deadlocked on 28 points after 11 games, three behind league leaders Roma, who face Sassuolo earlier on Sunday.

Low motivated as ever as he approaches 100th Germany game

    314563_heroa.jpg

Joachim Low insists he is as motivated as ever as he prepares for 100th game in charge of Germany.

Low took full charge of the Nationalelf in July 2006 after Jurgen Klinsmann stepped down from the post, and guided the side to the final of Euro 2008 before semi-final places at both World Cup 2010 and Euro 2012.

Although Low admits he is proud to have reached the milestone, he insists he is eager to add a trophy to his legacy with the national side as he begins preparations for next summer's World Cup in Brazil.

"More important than this round number for me is that I still coach with the same joy, energy and motivation with the national team as I did in my first international game as a head coach more than seven years ago against Sweden," he told reporters.

"The anniversary is an occasion for me to thank you for the trust and support in recent years, especially DFB president Wolfgang Niersbach, Hansi Flick, Andreas Kopke, Oliver Bierhoff and Urs Siegenthaler.

"Of course I would also like to thank the players and the entire group behind the team, who together we have big goals.

"It is great that we continue on our path together."

Germany will take on Italy in Milan on November 15, before travelling to Wembley stadium for a date with England on the 19th, and Low is relishing the prospect of the two friendly encounters.

"Italy are tactically world class, and the national team still plays at a high level. The Italians are characterized by their cleverness and efficiency," he said.

"To play against this team was our desire, because we can only evolve if we face strong opponents.

"It's a dream to play at Wembley Stadium. It is a great experience to play there, as a similar atmosphere awaits us at the World Cup in Brazil.

"Games against our English friends are always prestigious duels with an explosive atmosphere. For us it is an emotional conclusion to a year in which we clinched the World Cup qualifiers with confidence."

Pellegrini wrong to drop Hart, says Schmeichel

    337954_heroa.jpg

Former Manchester United goalkeeper says he disagrees with Manuel Pellegrini’s decision to drop Joe Hart, saying the City No. 1 has not "done too much wrong".

The England international was omitted from the Manchester City starting line-up after a series of mistakes, the latest coming during Chelsea’s 2-1 win over City, when Fernando Torres capitalised on a defensive mix-up to secure a late victory.

Costel Pantilimon took Hart’s place in the City team for the 7-0 victory over Norwich City and was again in the side for the midweek 5-2 win over CSKA Moscow in the Champions League.

However, Schmeichel thinks Hart did not deserve to lose his place in the team and feels the club's defensive problems are not purely down to the Englishman.

"I don't think he's done too much wrong,” he told BBC Radio 5 live.

"Sometimes things aren't working for you, but when it's Joe Hart it's highlighted like he's killed someone.

"I disagree with Pellegrini's decision. I disagree with the whole debate about Joe Hart.

"He might have had the odd situation, but he hasn't gone from being an absolutely brilliant keeper to what he is being portrayed as now.

"Why is it that when you finally have an English goalkeeper who has the quality to become the first part of the spine that can actually take England somewhere, everyone wants to drag this kid down?

"You have a unique goalkeeper here, someone who is very, very good even on his bad days.

"When you look at the goals he has been criticised for, at some point they could have been prevented by a defender or it was a misunderstanding.

"It is not down to Joe Hart on his own. Manchester City have got problems at the back."

Wenger confirms Flamini back in Arsenal training ahead of Manchester United clash

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed midfielder Mathieu Flamini is in contention to face Manchester United on Sunday.

The Frenchman is set to return to the Gunners squad for the trip to Old Trafford after missing a number of games with a groin injury.

Jack Wilshere will also train ahead of the clash, with the manager telling reporters: "Flamini and Wilshere will join in the training session."
Striker Olivier Giroud should be also fit for the game, despite suffering a knee injury against Borussia Dortmund, with Wenger insisting: "He has a good stamina and a strong body - I don't see any sign of fatigue."

The Gunners head into Sunday's match five points clear at the top of the Premier League table, and eight points ahead of opponents United.

The 64-year-old is targeting the clash as another confidence booster - after their recent 1-0 win away against Dortmund - but admits facing a manager other than Sir Alex Ferguson in the Old Trafford dugout will be odd.

"It is one of the games where you can build confidence and gain credit," he continued. "Recently we have not done so well there.

"It will be a bit strange without Sir Alex Ferguson there on Sunday. It's too early to tell the difference under Moyes. He has shown great competence at Everton."

Arsenal have been praised for their defensive improvements this season, something that was evident in that 1-0 victory over Dortmund, but the boss isn't satisfied just yet.

"We have made a lot of improvements at the back - but there is a lot to do," he added.

"[Per] Mertesacker and [Laurent] Koscielny complement each other well - the team help them as well."

Meanwhile, Goal can also reveal that Lukas Podolski is set to make a return from his long-term "horror" hamstring injury in December, having been unavailable since August.

Pique: Ronaldo fuelled by Messi rivalry

    332693_heroa.jpg

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique says Cristiano Ronaldo is fuelled by his rivalry with Lionel Messi as it constantly drives him to improve.

The Real Madrid forward has finished runner-up to the Argentina international in the Ballon d'Or for the previous two seasons as the attacking duo continue to vye for the title of the world's best player.

Pique, who played with Ronaldo briefly at Manchester United, feels the 28-year-old is motivated by the constant comparisons with Messi and has praised the Portugal captain for his ambition.

"Cristiano Ronaldo has not changed since we were both at Manchester United,” he told So Foot. "He remains the same.

"He is a player I’'ve always admired because he is a hard worker who always wants more and more. He is really ambitious.

"For me, he is in the top two or three in the world and still wants progress.

"I believe that his rivalry with [Lionel] Messi has helped Cristiano Ronaldo to always go further."

Pique went on to highlight the difference in spending between Barcelona and Madrid over recent seasons, suggesting the Blaugrana have performed admirably to keep pace with their bitter rivals given the comparative outlay in the transfer market.

"We are a poor club, but we are the rival of the world's richest club," Pique continued.

"If you look at the starting 11 of Madrid and see all the money they have spent to build it up, then you see there is no possible way for Barcelona to compare.

"They went a year without winning a major title and invested €160 million on three players, [Asier] Illaramendi, Isco and [Gareth] Bale. We can pay €60 or €70m for Neymar, but that's it."

Pique once more suggested Barca are "slaves" to the style of football ingrained in players from youth level upwards in Catalunya, adding that the more "individualistic" players of los Blancos are more likely to adapt to other sides.

"I think we are slaves to our style, in the sense that a player made in La Masia will have problems on a team that does not have the same identity and which, for example, does not like to have the ball.

"In comparison, a player trained in Madrid is more individualistic, which is not bad because it means you can fit anywhere.

"If you look at the big leagues you will see that there is always more former Real players like [Esteban] Granero, [Alvaro] Negredo, [Ronerto] Soldado and [Juan] Mata."

‘Real Madrid are unstoppable in attack’ – Arrasate

    307765_heroa.jpg

Real Sociedad coach Jagoba Arrasate has paid tribute to Real Madrid's "unstoppable" attack ahead of the sides' meeting on Saturday.

Los Blancos have scored 12 goals in their last three matches in all competitions and have struck 30 times so far in La Liga this season, although Carlo Ancelotti's side have received critisicm of late given the eight-point gap to league leaders Barcelona.

Arrasate, however, laughed off suggestions of a 'crisis' at Santiago Bernabeu in Friday's press conference, telling reporters: "They battered Malaga then put seven past Sevilla. That says it all.

"They are a brilliant team with the best players in the world.

"In attack, they are unstoppable – and that's something which they have demonstrated not just once or twice but on many occasions.

"[Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema] are three great players who are very difficult to stop.

"We have to make sure we don't gift them anything, don't get caught on the break and don't give them space to run into – but even after that, they are still very difficult to contain.”

Sociedad have managed just one victory at the Bernabeu in the past decade, but Arrasate insists his side are confident after their 0-0 draw with Manchester United in midweek.

"Well, maybe it's our turn this time because we haven't won there in over 10 years. But everything is different now, things have changed," he said.

"I won't say that before it was easier to win there but I think today it seems much harder because the difference between us is greater.

"United and Madrid are completely different – Madrid are physical like United but they don't defend as strongly as United do although in attack, they have more clout."

Chicharito could leave Manchester United for a top Premier League team – Meulensteen

    334413_heroa.jpg

Manchester United's former assistant manager Rene Meulensteen says striker Chicharito could leave the club and join "another top team in the Premier League" in search of regular football.

The Mexico international is widely used as a substitute at Old Trafford despite a superb scoring record that has seen him grab 54 goals in 126 appearances for the Red Devils.

Chicharito has scored four times already this season, despite being behind Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie in the pecking order, and Meulensteen admits he is a big fan of the 25-year-old.

"Chicharito Hernandez is a fantastic striker. Wherever he pops up he will score goals," he told talkSPORT.

"With Hernandez, having Robin van Persie in that position mean sometimes you will fall short.

"That's why it's so important that, at the right time, you mix up the combinations and that all these players feel like they contribute to the competitions that you play in."

The striker has been linked with a January move to Arsenal in recent days and while Meulensteen says he would not rule out a transfer away from the club, he does believe the player might find it difficult to quit Old Trafford.

The Dutchman added: "If Hernandez comes to an age where he thinks he wants regular football and he can get into another top team in the Premier League then I can see him considering it, but it's not easy leaving Manchester United."

Wenger: Van Persie is still an 'Arsenal man'

    335815_heroa.jpg

Arsene Wenger admits he is yet to come to terms with seeing Robin van Persie in a Manchester United shirt and still considers the striker an "Arsenal man".

Van Persie scored over 100 goals for the Gunners over the course of seven injury interrupted years under Wenger’s tutelage before his controversial £24 million move to Old Trafford the summer before last.

The Dutch international has been a revelation at United where his goals, including two against his former club, helped cement a 20th league title last season while he has begun this campaign in equally devastating form.

And although Van Persie will be looking to put a significant dent in Arsenal’s title ambitions on Sunday Wenger believes the 30-year-old still retains a deep affection for the club at which he made his name.

"It will be strange to see him in a United shirt because for me he is an Arsenal man,” Wenger told reporters. "I took him as a very, very young player and we came together through very difficult periods. He became a world-class player and for me he is an Arsenal player.

"Sometimes it (the move) is linked with age and Van Persie was 29 and more impatient. We had gone through years where we had to be tight financially in a way that was logical and normal without fading too much at the top level.

"Some players saw the big clubs buying world-name players and of course they lost a bit their confidence that we could compete with them.

"It is understandable but some players have always been consistent in the way they thought the club has to be run. But at some stage we can turn the corner as we have seen this season."

Moyes defends Young over diving accusations

    338503_heroa.jpg

Manchester United boss David Moyes has rejected claims that Ashley Young dived to win a penalty against Real Sociedad.

The Scot had previously declared that he "does not want his players diving", after Young was booked for an attempt to win a penalty against Crystal Palace back in September.

But Moyes defended the 28-year-old over claims that the winger was guilty of simulation in winning a penalty in their midweek Champions League draw with Sociedad and revealed that he had not seen fit to speak with the player about the incident.

"I didn't see an issue at all," the former Everton trainer told reporters. "The referee was two yards away from it and gave a penalty. If you need to talk to anybody, you should ask the referee.

"The question is loaded towards the player. That is wrong. The question should be, 'Did the referee get the decision right or not?'"He was two yards away from it. For me, where I was, I definitely thought it was a penalty. Everybody can now stand back and watch it from TV.

"I was one of many who said I would definitely have retrospective action for diving because it would make the referees job much better.

"But on the night, if you had said, could you get the referee any closer, I don't think he could."
