Barcelona to face Neymar court case in Brazil, lawyer says

    361847_heroa.jpg

A lawyer representing supermarket chain DIS claims the company is still owed 40 per cent of Neymar's transfer fee and insists Barcelona will face a new court case in Brazil over the controversial deal.

The 21-year-old's move from Santos to Barca last summer is already being investigated in Spain and led to the resignation of Blaugrana president Sandro Rosell last week.

But the deal is also causing a stir in Brazil, with Santos now saying they will take the player's father to court over the €40m payment revealed by Barcelona (in addition to the €17.1m fee paid to the club) and the Catalan club now look set to face further legal action from third-party owners DIS, who claim they were not paid their share.

"DIS presented a judicial lawsuit against Barcelona, Neymar, Santos and [agent] Wagner Ribeiro," lawyer Roberto Moreno told Catalan station La Xarxa on Friday. "It has been presented in Brazil and now it will be presented to the justice system in Spain."

Moreno also questioned Rosell's resignation and claimed the supermarket chain will continue to fight for the 40 per cent of the fee they say they are still owed.

"If there was no problem with Sandro Rosell, why did he resign? It's very strange," he said.

And he added: "We want that 40% from the Neymar operation. We feel very cheated by Neymar's father and by Neymar - very cheated and very sad.

"We had a lot of affection for his father and we helped both Neymar and his family. Real Madrid's offer was much better than Barca's, but DIS was never called to any of the negotiations with Madrid or Barca.

"They did it all behind our backs."

Arsenal failed with late Vucinic loan bid

    356889_heroa.jpg

Arsenal failed with a late move to sign Juventus striker Mirko Vucinic on deadline day, Goal understands.

Juventus were willing to sanction a loan deal for the Montengrin but the player turned down the chance to move to the Emirates Stadium.

Vucinic was not interested in a loan switch and only wanted a permanent transfer to Arsenal or Tottenham, who also expressed an interest in the 30-year-old.

The former Roma man is settled in Turin and did not want to upset his family life midway through the season.

Arsenal are believed to have made an attempt to sign Vucinic after failing to sign veteran German striker Miroslav Klose from Lazio, as revealed by Goal earlier on Friday.

Vucinic has found himself way down the pecking order at the Serie A leaders, who added another striker to their squad on deadline day when they signed Southampton outcast Dani Osvaldo.

Vucinic will compete with Osvaldo, Carlos Tevez, Fernando Llorente and Fabio Quagliarella for a place in the side.

Fulham 0-3 Southampton: Saints run riot against sorry Cottagers

    365057hp2.jpg

Fulham were simply outclassed by Southampton on Saturday as the visitors secured a 3-0 win thanks to three second-half goals.

Mauricio Pochettino's men produced a magnificent second-half display to seal their first win at the home of the London club for over 66 years. The result condemned Fulham to a fourth straight top-flight defeat and left Rene Meulensteen's side three points adrift of safety at the foot of the table.

Southampton took the lead just after the hour mark as Adam Lallana marked his 250th appearance for the club with a goal.

From there, Fulham's resistance wilted, with Southampton's lead doubled after 70 minutes through Rickie Lambert's simple finish.

And Jay Rodriguez capped the win in fine style with a magnificent strike from the edge of the area following a superb counterattack from the visitors.

Fulham, who handed debuts to new signings William Kvist and Lewis Holtby, spent much of the opening stages on the back foot and almost fell behind as Maarten Stekelenburg was forced into a reflex save after Steve Sidwell had turned Rodriguez's cross towards his own net.

The visitors continued to dictate play in the first half but struggled to create any meaningful opportunities, Calum Chambers flashing a shot wide just before the 20-minute mark.

Meulensteen's men soon responded, though, and would have taken the lead if not for Artur Boruc, who produced a fine stop to keep out Brede Hangeland's close-range header.

Still, Southampton enjoyed the better of the play, midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin drawing another strong save from Stekelenburg before Maya Yoshida glanced a header wide.

Most of Fulham's threat came via striker Darren Bent, who was twice denied by Boruc shortly before the interval, first from a left-footed volley and then from a near-post effort after the on-loan Aston Villa striker had broken free of the Southampton defence.

Southampton brought on Jack Cork in place of Victor Wanyama at half-time and the visitors almost broke the deadlock early in the second half, as Schneiderlin's spectacular overhead kick flew just over the crossbar.

Lallana then tested Stekelenburg but Fulham failed to heed that warning, affording him the space to put Southampton ahead after 64 minutes.

The England midfielder drilled home a superb left-footed finish after latching on to a perfectly placed through-ball from Lambert.

Southampton gained in confidence following the goal, Steven Davis and Schneiderlin both seeing goalbound efforts blocked.

And the inevitable second soon arrived as Lambert netted his eighth of the season. Lambert had the simple task of slotting home from close range after Nathaniel Clyne's low cross had found the striker unmarked in the area.

Pochettino's team refused to take their foot off the gas, though, Rodriguez applying the gloss to a fine display 15 minutes from time, the ex-Burnley man cutting on to his right foot and curling past a despairing Stekelenburg and into the top corner.

Fulham are now bottom, two points behind 19th-placed Cardiff, while Southampton are only two points behind Newcastle, in ninth.

Cardiff 2-1 Norwich: Bluebirds fight back for first league win under Solskjaer

    365056hp2.jpg

Cardiff City came back from behind to beat Norwich City 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side went into the break trailing by a solitary Robert Snodgrass strike but Craig Bellamy and Kenwyne Jones netted within the space of two minutes early in the second half.

The Trinidadian, signed from Stoke City as part of a swap deal involving Peter Odemwingie, poked home the winner five minutes into the second half to complete a stunning comeback for the hosts, who won for the first time in the Premier League under Solskjaer.

It was Jones' first league goal since December 2012 and came a minute after Bellamy had put Cardiff back on level terms to end a drought of his own and simultaneously set a new Premier League record.

The former Wales international had gone 33 matches without finding the net, and in cancelling out Snodgrass' early opener for Norwich, became the first man in Premier League history to score for seven different clubs.

Fabio Da Silva and Jones made their debuts for Cardiff after joining before the transfer deadline while a third addition, Wilfried Zaha, started on the bench.

But it was the visitors who started the brightest - and they were ahead as early as the fifth minute. Martin Olsson broke free down the left and pulled the ball across the box, where it fell nicely for Snodgrass to sidefoot home from eight yards.

Cardiff struggled to make any inroads into the Norwich half, with efforts from distance the best they could muster in the opening half an hour.

Peter Whittingham curled an effort narrowly wide from 20 yards in the 38th minute, before being immediately withdrawn in what appeared to be a tactical switch by Solskjaer, who sent on Zaha in a bid to increase his side's attacking threat.

That change reaped rewards four minutes after the break as Zaha picked up on a loose ball and slipped a pass in for Bellamy, who tucked a neat finish underneath John Ruddy.

And a minute later, the hosts completed a remarkable turnaround, Jones hooking the ball high into the net from close range after his initial header had been blocked.

The visitors came agonisingly close to an immediate response, Bradley Johnson seeing his curling effort from 25 yards tipped onto the crossbar by David Marshall, before Jones almost inadvertently doubled his tally in the 59th minute, deflecting Jordon Mutch's shot onto the outside of the post with his stomach.

But Norwich pressed hard in the final stages, Marshall producing a superb save low to his right to deny substitute Nathan Redmond in the 80th minute, before Bellamy cleared Gary Hooper's effort off the line.

Marshall clawed out Leroy Fer's header and Snodgrass hit the post in the final five minutes as Cardiff held on to lift themselves off the foot of the table, while Norwich are left looking over their shoulder, with just two points separating Chris Hughton's men from the bottom three.

Everton 2-1 Aston Villa: Mirallas stunner seals turnaround

    365052hp2.jpg

Kevin Mirallas' stunning late free kick completed a remarkable turnaround for Everton, who came from a goal down to beat Aston Villa 2-1 at Goodison Park and keep pace in the race for the top four.

Everton took control early on, with Aiden McGeady cutting inside and smashing the post with a wickedly curling effort, but fell behind against the run of play to Leandro Bacuna's strike mid-way through the first half following a swift break.

The Toffees continued to dominate possession in search of an equaliser, with Villa offering little in attack, and finally found a breakthrough when Steven Naismith linked with fellow substitute Steven Pienaar to tuck the ball beyond Brad Guzan.

Roberto Martinez's side continued to push forward and duly claimed a vital winner, as Mirallas curved a vicious free kick beyond the reach of Guzan and just under the crossbar to take all three points.

There was no place in the Everton squad for Lacina Traore, who was introduced to the home fans before kick-off following his loan arrival from Monaco, but McGeady made his first Premier League start for the hosts and went agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock in the opening two minutes.

Cutting inside from the right, the Republic of Ireland international unleashed a superb curling effort from the edge of the penalty area that struck the left-hand post.

Everton dominated possession in the opening stages, but struggled to cause Villa goalkeeper Brad Guzan too many problems in the wake of McGeady's early strike.

The 27-year-old – signed from Spartak Moscow during the January transfer window – was also responsible for the game's first shot on target, but his low drive was comfortably collected by Guzan.

Having not troubled Tim Howard at all for the opening 30 minutes, it was Villa who took the lead when Christian Benteke slid in Bacuna and the Dutchman slotted beyond the Everton stopper from close range for his fourth goal of the season and second in as many matches.

Fabien Delph dispossessed Ross Barkley superbly in the middle of the park in the build-up to the goal.

Martinez brought Pienaar on in place of Barkley for the second half as Everton went in search of an equaliser and Leon Osman blazed across goal 10 minutes in, missing out on a seventh career goal against Villa.

Pienaar pulled the trigger from 20 yards shortly after the hour mark, but his fizzing effort only succeeded in stinging the palms of Guzan.

Everton finally pulled themselves level in the 74th minute, when Naismith burst into the penalty area to latch onto Pienaar's cutely flicked through-ball and poke beyond the Villa goalkeeper.

And Mirallas completed the comeback five minutes from time with a wonderful set-piece finish, giving Everton their first Premier League double over Aston Villa and pushing them up to fifth place in the league table.

Hull City 1-1 Tottenham: Paulinho earns point for Spurs

    365051hp2.jpg

Paulinho returned from injury to rescue a point for a laboured Tottenham side at the KC Stadium on Saturday afternoon, dropping points in the race for the top four as they came from behind to draw 1-1 against Hull City.

The Tigers took the lead after Steve Harper's deep goal kick was badly dealt with by Jan Vertonghen and allowed Shane Long, linking with fellow January signing Nikica Jelavic, to race in behind the Spurs defence and fire the ball past Hugo Lloris.

The away side, disjointed in the first half, showed more intent in the second period and levelled the scores through Paulinho; the Brazilian, having been sidelined since December, trapped Danny Rose's shot before powering a thunderous effort past Harper.

Both sides sought a winner, with Jelavic testing Lloris several times and even striking the post, though neither team could claim all three points - though Hull end a run of four straight league defeats.

Jake Livermore was ineligible to play for Hull against his parent club, while Vertonghen made his first appearance in almost two months after recovering from an ankle injury.

After a tame opening, the game exploded into life as Jelavic lifted a cross from former Tottenham midfielder Tom Huddlestone onto the roof of the net with a clever first-time shot.

Emmanuel Adebayor then drew an excellent save from Harper – standing in for the suspended Allan McGregor – with his volleyed finish tipped over the bar, before Hull took the lead 60 seconds later.

Jelavic's flick-on fell to Long in space and the Republic of Ireland striker burst between Tottenham defenders Michael Dawson and Vertonghen before producing a clever left-foot finish to delight the home crowd.

Tottenham had two penalty appeals turned down as they looked for a response but Hull were comfortable during the first half.

Tim Sherwood's men were much-improved after the break, though, and Christian Eriksen fired over before Roberto Soldado forced a good save from Harper from a tight angle after Paulinho's shot deflected fortuitously to him.

Spurs got their equaliser just after the hour-mark, although it came with a large slice of luck, as a short free kick led to Rose thrashing an attempt at goal from 45 yards.

The shot was flying wide, but Paulinho's excellent first touch created enough space for him to turn and unleash a strike on goal – an effort that fizzed past Harper and into the back of the net.

Jelavic hit the post as Hull searched for a quick response, with his stabbed effort from a Long cross from an acute angle almost going in, while the Croatian striker also had an effort that was creeping towards goal cleared by Dawson after Tottenham goalkeeper Lloris was beaten after coming off his line.

Despite both sides pushing for a winner, and Soldado once again claiming he was felled inside the box late on, the two sides shared the spoils in a largely even contest.

West Ham 2-0 Swansea: Rampant Carroll sees red after Nolan double

    364991hp2.jpg

Kevin Nolan's double in a 2-0 win over Swansea on Saturday helped West Ham pick up a vital three points in the fight for Premier League survival despite Andy Carroll's red card reducing the home side to 10 men for much of the second half.

The home side landed the first blow, as Carroll, making only his second Premier League start of the season, cushioned a header into the path of Kevin Nolan, who controlled the ball with his chest before volleying it into the bottom corner.

On the stroke of half-time, the same two players combined again to extend the east Londoners' lead; Carroll rose highest at the back post to header the ball back into the six-yard box, where Nolan was able to glance an uncontested header into the back of the net.

Carroll's involvement did not finish there, though, and the centre-forward was harshly sent off by referee Howard Webb following a tussle with Chico Flores, though the Welsh outfit were unable to make their man advantage count.

Both clubs were active in the January transfer window, though no new signings made the starting XI; Italian duo Marco Borriello and Antonio Nocerino were among West Ham's substitutes, while Swansea manager Michael Laudrup kept David N'Gog in reserve.

The hosts started the brighter, and had the first chance of the game when Carroll headed Matt Jarvis' cross wide after six minutes.

Allardyce's men continued probing, and deservedly took the lead through Nolan's well-taken 27th-minute strike. The skipper still had plenty to do after the unmarked Carroll nodded down Matt Taylor's delivery, but he took a touch before expertly volleying home from just inside the area with his left foot.

Swansea responded well to going behind, but failed to test home keeper Adrian and were made to pay on the stroke of half-time as West Ham's tried-and-trusted method of Nolan feeding off Carroll's knock-downs bore fruit once again.

More lacklustre marking from Swansea was punished, as they again failed to pick up Carroll, who nodded Stewart Downing’s corner back across goal for Nolan to divert a close-range header beyond the helpless Gerhard Tremmel.

The home side picked up where they left off after the interval, and Jarvis rounded Tremmel before seeing his cross hacked clear by Ben Davies.

However, the pattern of the game was turned on its head when Webb showed no hesitation in dismissing England international Carroll for his part in the seemingly innocuous incident with Chico, a flailing arm merely glancing the defender.

Inevitably, Swansea then began controlling the game but struggled to force Adrian into action as West Ham dropped deeper.

But despite their territorial dominance, Laudrup's side - who are now winless in six league games away from home - were impotent in attack, with Wilfried Bony spurning their only real chance by volleying over the bar 10 minutes from time.

West Ham, who introduced Nocerino for match-winner Nolan in the closing stages, were able to hold on relatively comfortably to record their 11th Premier League clean sheet of the campaign - the most shut-outs in the division.

Newcastle 0-3 Sunderland: Poyet's men complete historic derby double

    364994hp2.jpg

Sunderland ran riot at St James' Park to record a 3-0 win over Newcastle, the first time the Black Cats have done the double over their Tyne-Wear rivals since 1967.

Gus Poyet's men took control of the opening exchanges and were rewarded with an early goal when Phil Bardsley was felled inside the box by Vernon Anita. Fabio Borini stepped up to take the resulting penalty and buried it in the roof of the net.

The visitors doubled their lead moments later from a swift break, as Jack Colback drove towards goal before unleashing a shot that was palmed into the path of Adam Johnson, who tapped the ball into an open net.

Newcastle threw on new signing Luuk De Jong for the second half, though rarely tested Vito Mannone, and it was Sunderland who would net the next, decisive goal, counterattacking at speed once more before Colback rifled the ball past Tim Krul to wrap up the win.

With Loic Remy suspended, Newcastle handed a start to Shola Ameobi – partnered up front with brother Sammy in the league for the first time - while the visitors handed a debut to Liam Bridcutt.

Both sides had chances to score within a frantic first five minutes. Mathieu Debuchy flashed a shot wide for the hosts before the unmarked Marcos Alonso headed over from six yards for Sunderland.

The match continued in an end-to-end fashion until the visitors moved ahead on 19 minutes. Anita clumsily challenged Bardsley in the area and Borini thundered the resulting penalty into the top-left hand corner.

Four minutes later the visiting supporters were on their feet again. Jozy Altidore's neat flick found Colback and his deflected effort deceived Krul who could only parry into the path of Johnson with the winger tapping home the rebound for his seventh goal in his last eight matches.

Sunderland were comfortable in defence and twice nearly had a third with Johnson heading wide and the impressive Altidore holding off three challengers before shooting tamely at Krul.

Unsurprisingly, Newcastle came out for the second half with more attacking intent and introduced De Jong from the bench for his debut.

The home side had claims for a penalty when Shola Ameobi appeared to be tripped by Bridcutt in the area, before Vito Mannone saved Cheick Tiote's drive and the Nigeria striker headed over from the resulting corner.

Johnson remained a threat at the other end for Sunderland, however, and he almost wrapped the match up by weaving his way into the box from the right and curling his shot onto the far post.

Shola Ameobi continued to pose a threat for Newcastle and had a header cleared on the line by John O'Shea as the hosts grew desperate.

That missed chance proved costly, as Colback collected Borini's pass and fired past Krul, ensuring Sunderland ended another weekend out of the relegation zone.

Lorient 2-2 Monaco: Kurzawa spares Ranieri's blushes

    365090hp2.jpg

Layvin Kurzawa struck an 87th minute equaliser to rescue a 2-2 draw for Monaco at Lorient on Saturday.

Vincent Aboubakar had given the hosts an early lead before Valere Germain equalised for the principality club on the stroke of half-time.

Jeremie Aliadiere thought he’d won it for the hosts with 15 minutes remaining, but Kurzawa’s late strike ensured they earned a share of the spoils.

Lorient started much the better side and were almost ahead inside four minutes when Aboubaker beat Moutinho in the area before lifting the ball over Monaco keeper Danijel Subasic and onto the top of the crossbar.

Aboubaker quickly went one better, however, giving the home side a deserved lead with a header from Kevin Monnet-Paquet's cross to score his 12th of the season on 14 minutes.

Monaco were completely outplayed in the opening stages and Alain Traore and Aboubaker wasted further chances to double the home side’s lead.

The visitors' diamond formation had earned them a 2-0 victory over Marseille last week but Claudio Ranieri was forced to make a tactical substitution after just 26 minutes, withdrawing Mounir Obbadi for Lucas Ocampos and switching to a flat 4-4-2.

New signing Dimitar Berbatov isn't yet available for Monaco and the Bulgarian will do well to oust Germain, who eventually equalised for the away side with a right-footed finish from just outside the box.

James should then have put Monaco ahead right on the stroke of half-time, but fired well over the bar from six yards after doing well to cut inside the defender onto his left foot.

Lorient started the second half well and nearly restored their lead on 50 minutes when Subasic had to rush from his line to block Aliadiere’s effort, before Bruno Ecuele Manga saw his follow-up stopped on the line by Andrea Raggi.

But Alliadiere put Lorient back into the lead 15 minutes later. Boueyan’s shot was saved by Subasic but his parry found Aoubcar, who squared for Alliadiere to fire the ball into an empty net.

Kurzawa equalised with just four minutes left when he controlled Ocampos’ low cross inside the box before placing his left-footed shot wide of Lorient keeper Florent Chaigneau and into the far corner.

Germain almost pinched all three points right at the end but saw his shot flash just wide.

The draw means third-placed Lorient remain eight points behind Monaco in second.

Everyone turned Lazio down – Reja

    356731_heroa.jpg

Lazio coach Edy Reja has revealed that as many as 10 players rejected the chance to join the club during the transfer window.

The Biancocelesti lost midfielder Hernanes to Inter on deadline day and tried desperately to find a suitable replacement, targeting, amongst others, Juventus forward Sebastian Giovinco and Parma’s Jonathan Biabiany.

But Reja confirmed that every one of their targets turned down the opportunity to join the capital club.

“There were around 10 names that we wanted to replace Hernanes, but they all rejected us. Juventus have a few players who were of interest to us but they also said no,” Reja told a press conference.

“We asked for Sebastian Giovinco, but nobody wanted to come to Lazio. It was upsetting for us.

“Jonathan Biabiany seemed to be a done deal, but evidently he was happy at Parma.”

Reja also revealed that Lazio attempted to convince Hernanes to remain at the club but the 28-year-old rejected the offer of a new deal in order to move to San Siro.

“Up until a few days ago, I never considered that Hernanes would leave,” added Reja.

“The president had proposed a new five-year contract, but he said he preferred other options.”

Lazio lie 10th in Serie A and will continue their push for a European place when they travel to Chievo on Sunday.
