Esbjerg 1-3 Fiorentina: Matri, Ilicic & Aquilani fire Viola to simple victory

    371502hp2.jpg

Fiorentina fired in three first-half goals at Esbjerg to cruise towards the second leg of their Europa League last-32 tie with a 3-1 advantage in hand.

On-loan AC Milan man Alessandro Matri showed solid skill to score the opener but Danish forward Martin Pusic equalised a minute later, after the Viola failed to clear a dangerous cross.

Five minutes later, though, Josip Ilicic cooled the visiting fans' nerves and Alberto Aquilani effectively killed off the tie with a penalty shortly before half-time.

Vicenzo Montella's men saw out the second half with little fuss to leave them with a considerable advantage heading into the second leg at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

German striker and summer signing Mario Gomez was on the bench once again for Fiorentina, having made his comeback from a long spell out injured as a substitute at the weekend.

Pusic will have made Montella question how soon he might need a forward like Gomez on the pitch as he tested Viola shot-stopper Neto with four minutes gone.

But it was the visitors who got the goalscoring under way. Matri, on a half-season loan from Milan, controlled a pass perfectly before then burying his effort in the bottom corner.

Before Fiorentina even had a chance to settle following the celebrations, Pusic pounced on a deep cross to fire Esbjerg level with a low and accurate strike.

A breathless opening 15 minutes ended with Ilicic scoring from a threatening cross curled into the box.

The tempo died down in the subsequent five minutes and the next chance came with a third of the game gone, as Esbjerg midfielder Markus Levken's cross narrowly avoided causing havoc and instead went out for a corner.

Just as the hosts were starting to rediscover their verve - with Peter Ankersen's deflected effort just going wide of the post - Davidson Drobo Ampem brought down Ryder Matos just inside the area to concede a penalty.

Esbjerg's players protested the foul was outside the box to no avail and ex-Liverpool midfielder Aquilani hit home to give the visitors a comfortable cushion.

Half-time came and went without further major incident, with Gomez's arrival on the pitch for goalscorer Matri spicing up Montella's tactics.

The former Bayern Munich forward very nearly made an instant impact upon his introduction, forcing a save from Martin Dubravka with a shot from the edge of the 18-yard box.

As the second half wound down to its predictable conclusion, Borja Valero should really have given Fiorentina an additional away goal but he screwed a rebounded Ilicic shot over the crossbar, wasting all of Matos' excellent work in creating the chance.

It did not matter with regards to the result, however, and Montella's men can consider themselves as having one foot in the final after an impressive display at the Blue Water Arena.

Dnipro 1-0 Tottenham: Konoplyanka makes Spurs pay for missed chances

    371523hp2.jpg

Yevhen Konoplyanka scored from the penalty spot late on to give Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk a 1-0 advantage over Tottenham in the first leg of their round-of-32 Europa League tie at the Dnipro-Arena in Ukraine.

Jan Vertonghen was adjudged to have fouled Matheus with 10 minutes left on the clock, and Liverpool's January target Konoplyanka beat Brad Friedel in the Spurs net to leave Tim Sherwood's side with an uphill battle in the return leg at White Hart Lane.

It was sweet revenge for Dnipro coach Juande Ramos, who delivered Tottenham's last trophy by winning the League Cup in 2008, only to be sacked the following season with the club bottom of the Premier League table.

The result leaves the Premier League side with work to do but it could have been a different story had Roberto Soldado not spurned a golden chance when he missed an open goal 10 minutes into the second half.By the end, though, Sherwood was thankful to depart with his side trailing by only the solitary goal as Roman Zozulya was denied by the frame of the goal in
    stoppage time.

Andros Townsend made his first start for Tottenham since mid-December after recovering from a hamstring injury, while 16-year-old Josh Onomah took his place on the bench for the first time.

On a dry and rutted surface, the visitors created the first half-opening of the game in the 13th minute after a minute's silence was observed in respect to those who lost their lives during the recent political unrest in Ukraine, Soldado seeing his near-post header blocked by Dnipro goalkeeper Denis Boyko.

Dnipro ought to have gone ahead 12 minutes later when Matheus was played clean through on goal, but Friedel spread himself to block the Brazilian's effort low down to his left, before thwarting the striker again two minutes later when he tried his luck from 25 yards.

Ten minutes before the break, Ivan Strinic was booked for hauling down Paulinho on the edge of the area, with Tottenham arguing that he should have been sent off for denying a goalscoring opportunity. Townsend sent the resulting free-kick a yard wide.

Soldado wasted a glorious chance to break the deadlock in the 56th minute when, with the goal at his mercy, the Spaniard somehow cleared the crossbar from four yards after being picked out by Paulinho's ball across the box.Sherwood introduced Christian Eriksen off the bench in place of Townsend in the 64th minute and the Denmark international almost made a telling contribution with his first touch, but his slotted finish beyond Boyko was ruled out for offside.

Friedel had to be alert three minutes later to parry Matheus' rasping effort from the edge of the box as the game became more stretched.Soldado saw a volley blocked before Friedel was involved again, rushing from his line to deny Giuliano after the Brazilian had jinked his way through the Tottenham defence.

The deadlock was eventually broken when Vertonghen brought down Matheus and Konoplyanka coolly tucked home the penalty in off the left-hand post to give Dnipro a crucial first-leg advantage.Tottenham pushed hard for an equaliser as Paulinho forced a ricochet that struck the base of the post before substitute Harry Kane failed to get a telling connection with the goal at his mercy.

It could have been so much worse for Tottenham, though, as Zozulya sent a header against the post in stoppage time.

Dynamo Kiev 0-2 Valencia: Vargas & Feghouli put los Che in driving seat with late strikes

    367367hp2.jpg

Eduardo Vargas and Marouane Feghouli struck late on to allow Valencia to defeat a stubborn Dynamo Kiev side 2-0 in Thursday's Europa League last-32 first-leg clash.

Los Che, heading into the game on the back of a five-match unbeaten streak in La Liga, may have hoped that playing their away tie in Cyprus due to political tensions in Ukraine could have worked in their favour but took until the 79th minute to break through the dogged defences of Oleh Blokhin's team, with a second coming in stoppage-time.

In fact, the opening 20 minutes saw Dynamo Kiev look the more likely to take the lead as Nigerian forward Brown Ideye headed marginally wide before the referee called play back for a free kick to the visitors.

At the other end, Jonas had the best chance of the match as of 26 minutes when Jeremy Mathieu looped a cross to his feet, but Ukrainian goalkeeper Aleksandr Shovkovsky came off his line to swipe the ball away from the Brazilian.

Juan Antonio Pizzi's men continued to exploit the wing for their chances as they went into the ascendancy in the final 20 minutes of the first half, with Jonas constantly lingering on the last man in search of a cross that he could latch on to.

Immediately after half-time, however, Jeremain Lens went closer than anyone in 48 minutes had by connecting with Danilo Silva's cross, but his shot cannoned over the crossbar.

The next 15 minutes were characterised by a stop-start nature as defender Domagoj Vida then Shovkovsky needed treatment for injuries, with the latter forced off.

Two chances in quick succession nearly saw los Che take the lead as the game burst into life with 14 minutes on the clock, with substitute goalkeeper Aleksandr Rybka doing excellently to deny Dani Parejo then Seydou Keita from close range.

Three minutes later, Dynamo should have held the lead but Ideye could not make contact on Silva's tantalising cross.

That failed attack cost Blokhin's men dearly as Valencia counterattacked and won a corner, which Parejo whipped on to Vargas' head and the Napoli loanee guided it into the back of the net.

Dynamo's spirit was hit hard by the late goal and Vargas almost doubled his lead shortly afterwards, thumping off the foot of the post after a terrific ball from Joao Pereira.

Pizzi's charges grabbed their second goal in stoppage time as Feghouli nestled Pereira's cross into the back of the net via a deflection to give the Spanish side the edge going into the tie at Mestalla.

Juventus 2-0 Trabzonspor: Osvaldo & Pogba give Bianconeri crucial first-leg advantage

    371483hp2.jpg

Pablo Daniel Osvaldo scored his first goal for Juventus as the Italian champions recorded a hard-fought but potentially decisive 2-0 win over Trabzonspor in the first leg of their Europa League round-of-32 tie on Thursday evening.

The on-loan Southampton struck just 16 minutes into the first-leg clash in Turin, coolly slotting home after the ball had fallen nicely for him.

Olcan Adin controversially had a goal disallowed midway through the second half and Juventus took full advantage, with Paul Pogba firing home in injury time to leave the visitors crestfallen.

The home side made a bright opening and orchestrated the first opportunity after five minutes when Mauricio Isla picked out Carlos Tevez on the edge of the box but the Argentine scooped well over the crossbar.

Despite that miss, Tevez played a part in the opening goal as his pass to the wing ricocheted kindly into the path of Osvaldo, who kept his cool to open his Juventus account by slotting under Onur Kivrak.

Juve continued to attack and spurned two opportunities to extend the lead shortly before the half-hour mark. First, Tevez slipped in Isla, who cut inside and saw his close-range effort saved by Kivrak, before the Bianconeri No.10 curled wide inside the box when perhaps he should have hit the target.

Tevez was proving a constant menace to the visitors' defence, though he was unable to test Kivrak fully after neat footwork on the edge of the area.

The chances continued to pile up for Juventus after the break, with Pogba dragging wide from 20 yards and Osvaldo curling an effort from the left that Kivrak easily dealt with.

Tevez had another tame effort saved on the hour mark, but he remains without a goal in continental competition since April 2009.

Trabzonspor thought they had levelled on 70 minutes. Substitute Henrique forced Gianluigi Buffon into a save and Adin turned in Erdogan's assist, only to see his celebrations curtailed when it was adjudged the ball had crossed the line for a corner.

Pogba clipped the post in the closing stages before curling home Tevez's centre in stoppage time to add gloss to the scoreline.

'We would sign Neymar the same way' - Barcelona president Bartomeu bites back in tax dispute

    337674_heroa.jpg

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has insisted he would not change a thing about Neymar's transfer, despite the controversy and legal issues generated by the deal.

The Catalans were charged with fraud by the Spanish High Court on Thursday for allegedly evading paying €9.1 million in tax in association with the Brazilian's move to Camp Nou last summer.

Bartomeu, who took over the Liga giants when Sandro Rosell resigned in January in the midst of the Neymar controversy and looming legal charges, is adamant that the club will be found innocent of the tax fraud claims.

"We are calm, we are one of the few clubs who are up to date with tax payments," he told RTVE.

"I think in this way the club are exemplary. Let us hope that before the courts everything will be found, as expected, to back up our story.

"The contract we signed with Neymar and with Santos were totally legal. The negotiations, the financial transactions, the contracts ... everything was done within the law.

"We would do exactly the same thing if given the chance to sign Neymar again. The goal was to sign a once-in-a-generation player like Neymar to play with the best in the world: Lionel Messi.

The revelation that Barca actually spent €86.2m on Neymar - not the official €57.1m - was publicly revealed after Blaugrana member Jordi Cases' complaint against the monetary logistics of the transfer.

Bartomeu admitted his frustration that, as a result, Barca's rivals have been given an insight into how to sign Brazilian youngsters after it emerged that they gave Neymar's parents €40m to secure his loyalty to the Catalans.

"No other member of Barca except Jordi Cases - who has every right to do what he did and against whom there will be no retaliation - requested a financial explanation for the signing of Neymar," the club president continued.

"I understand that certain contracts must remain confidential. We have already given a lot of information on how to sign our rivals in Brazil."

Santos are currently involved in a legal battle to obtain the documents that Barca signed with Neymar's father regarding the €40m payment upon his signing.

Klopp: Reus ready to return for Dortmund

    344249_heroa.jpg

Jurgen Klopp expects Marco Reus to return when in-form Borussia Dortmund travel to Bundesliga strugglers Hamburg on Saturday.

The Germany international has missed BVB's last two games after tearing a thigh muscle in the 5-1 hammering of Werder Bremen earlier this month, but is now poised to make his comeback.

"Marco Reus was able to give 100 per cent in training and looked good," Klopp told reporters. "He should be fit to play."

Dortmund travel to the Imtech Arena having won four matches in a row - a stark comparison to the seven successive defeats Bert van Marwijk's men had before his sacking last weekend - but the Schwarzgelben boss expects Hamburg to be rejuvenated under new coach Mirko Slomka.

"We can't go to Hamburg with our new-found confidence expecting to face a weak opponent," Klopp continued.

"We'll have to see how they set themselves up, but ultimately we've got perform to our capabilities.

"We need to work hard. We can't underestimate Hamburg. They've got a fresh start under Mirko Slomka It's not the first time a team has changed coaches right before facing us.

"Slomka has spent time with his squad and if they buy into him then it'll be like a fresh start. The relegation battle has started for some sides. So I'm expecting a fight in Hamburg.

"Hamburg will have a special atmosphere, they will celebrate every tackle. Hamburg don't need any sympathy from us, but they won't get any from us either."

Mats Hummels and Ilkay Gundogan remain among the Signal Iduna Park stars sidelined for the Hamburg clash.

:('Puyol unlikely to be at World Cup' - Spain assistant coach Grande

    350936_heroa.jpg

Barcelona centre-back Carles Puyol is unlikely to go to the World Cup, according to Spain assistant coach Toni Grande.

Vicente del Bosque's side romped to victory four years ago with the Blaugrana veteran a rock in their back four, but he will be 36 when this summer's tournament in Brazil gets under way.

With question marks over his fitness and only one appearance in La Liga in 2014, Grande thinks the time may have come for la Roja to part ways with the defender with 100 international caps to his name.

"Puyol has always been a very important player for us, not only on the pitch but also in pre-match meetings," Grande told La Xarxa. "He has experience, style, guts, behaviour and enthusiasm.

"I haven't ruled him out completely yet, but obviously he needs to play a lot more and be more involved in Barca's key matches.

"He hasn't been completely ruled out, as there's still three months until the World Cup, but it is looking very difficult for him."

Del Bosque's right-hand man, who denied that la Roja's team is an ageing one, also revealed that Thiago Alcantara's performances for Bayern Munich this season are likely to see him secure a place in Spain's squad for the World Cup.

"We're not a veteran team," Grande added. "With the exception of a couple of players, the rest are at a great age.

"In principle, the squad that went to two European Championships and the World Cup will go to Brazil. That is the plan as long as there are no major injuries. There might be a couple of changes, but it will be 80% to 90% the same team that has given us so much joy in the past.

"Out of the youngsters, Thiago is the one with the most experience. He plays frequently at Bayern, he's a regular in all their games.

"Out of all the young players we have on our radar, he has the best chance of going to the World Cup."

Busquets slams Manchester City: Excuses are for losers

    371463_heroa.jpg

Sergio Busquets has hit back at Manchester City following their criticism of referee Jonas Eriksson's performance in Barcelona's 2-0 Champions League win at the Etihad on Wednesday by stating that "excuses are for losers".

City boss Manuel Pellegrini accused the Swedish official of favouring Barcelona after the Catalan club secured a 2-0 win in the first leg of the sides' Champions League round-of-16 tie on Tuesday.

Eriksson sent Martin Demichelis off early in the second half and awarded a penalty for a challenge on Lionel Messi when the initial contact appeared to have been made outside the area.

"The excuses when you lose are for losers," he told reporters. "Is better [to] forget and focus on the next match."

Pellegrini claimed that Swedish official Eriksson did not have control of the game and sided with Spanish champions to redeem himself after failing to award them a penalty in a game against Milan at the same stage last year.

Uefa are investigating the Chilean's post-match comments and Busquets accused City of sour grapes following their reaction to the defeat which leaves the Premier League club's Champions League hopes hanging by a thread.

"I think that we have been winning everything without any difficulties until not long ago," he continued.

"I think that the referees make mistakes frequently. Sometimes those mistakes are good for you and other times are bad.

"They give more importance to an error on our behalf, in any game or any result. That happened a few days ago against Manchester City.

"You have to leave the referees do their job. Sometimes their mistakes will be on your behalf and some others not."

The two sides lock horns in the second leg at Camp Nou on March 12.

Purslow: Champions League is key for Manchester United's future

    365189_heroa.jpg

Former Liverpool managing director Christian Purslow believes Manchester United may never get back into the Champions League if they fail to qualify for two consecutive seasons.

The Red Devils have struggled in David Moyes' first season in charge, occupying seventh place in the Premier League and languishing 11 points behind Liverpool, who occupy the final qualifying place behind Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City.

With the prospect of even qualifying for the Europa League hanging in the balance for last season's Premier League champions, Purslow says the Old Trafford club face a crucial fight for the long-term financial future of the club.

"If you qualify for the Champions League you stand to make around £30 million (€36m)," he told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT.

"Next year, when that BT Sport [Champions League television rights] deal kicks in, that figure will probably double. In other words the difference between fourth and fifth place in the Premier League may be between £50-60m (€60m-73m) a year.

"That affects Manchester United the most. They don't look like they're going to be there this year. It gives Moyes and [chief executive] Edward Woodward a year to get their act together.

"They can live with a £30m (€36m) disadvantage for one year but, in another year's time, if they miss out [again], they may never get back [in the Champions League]."

If United fail to secure a top-four spot this season, it will be the first time the club have missed out on Europe's premier club competition since 1995.

    354161_heroa.jpg

Premier League trio Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City have announced their 2014 Guinness International Champions Cup fixtures, with the latter two sides facing each other on July 30 in New York.

Manuel Pellegrini's outfit will take on Brendan Rodgers' men at Yankee Stadium in Group B, while David Moyes' side take on Italian duo Inter and Roma in Group A.

United take on the Giallorossi at Denver's Sports Authority Field on July 26, before travelling to Washington DC to face the Nerazzurri at the FedEx Field on July 29. Their game against Real Madrid has yet to be scheduled.

Manchester United group managing director Richard Arnold said: "These two matches against strong opposition will provide David Moyes and his team with valuable preparation for the 2014-15 season.

“The team last played in Washington DC in 2011 and the match against Barcelona was extremely well supported. This will be the team’s first visit to Denver and we are excited to meet our fans in this city for the first time."

Liverpool's summer excursion to the US will be the second of Rodgers' Anfield career, with Olympiakos first up in Group B at Soldier Field Stadium on July 27.

'Tevez phenomenal to play alongside' - Osvaldo

    371527_heroa.jpg

Pablo Daniel Osvaldo has poured praise on fellow Juventus striker Carlos Tevez after they teamed up well in a 2-0 win over Trabzonspor 2-0 in the Europa League on Thursday evening.

The Southampton loanee scored the opener in his first start for Antonio Conte's side after 16 minutes, with Paul Pogba adding another in stoppage time to ensure the Italians will go to Turkey in the second leg of the last-32 tie with the upper hand.

Osvaldo lauded his Argentine strike-partner following the Bianconeri's win and says he hopes that he can continue to impress in Turin in order to secure a place in Italy's World Cup squad.

"Tevez makes it so easy to play alongside him," the 28-year-old told Sky Sport Italia. "He's a phenomenon and any player would find it simpler playing with him.

"I do not like to sit still and wait for the ball and, conveniently, the coach has asked me to move about continuously.

"Honestly, I feel very comfortable with both Tevez and the rest of the team. I'm happy, right away I adapted pretty well here.

"I plan to work hard to go to the World Cup, I will give my all. It doesn't just depend on me, but I hope I can do it."

Thursday's strike was Osvaldo's fourth of the season having scored only three times in his five months in the Premier League with Southampton.

Scolari: Fans can inspire Brazil to World Cup glory

    371397_heroa.jpg

Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has rejected the notion that hosting the World Cup could prove detrimental to the country's hopes of lifting the trophy this summer.

The 65-year-old trainer, who oversaw the Selecao's triumph in South Korea and Japan in 2002, thinks that home support can only aid the nation's bid to win the tournament for a sixth time.

Speaking at a World Cup workshop for coaches in Florianapolis, Scolari said: "It helps us win. Fans, they help us win. Fans are important.

"I have said - even though some journalists don't agree - that I'm not worried about this. We have a 12th player.

"We are playing at home, something that makes the difference. We have a squad that is competitive and of a high quality.

"And having this together with the fans means we can always be the best. Because of this, I'm completely confident that we can get to the final and become champions."
However, Scolari added that there are several nations that should be considered genuine contenders to win the World Cup.

He said: "I don't think that we're going to have three favourites for the title. Today, there are at least eight squads that can fight for the title. Now, one of those favourites is us. Everyone knows it.

"And players, we have really good players [coming to the tournament] that we already know. Like Cristiano [Ronaldo], like [Lionel] Messi, Neymar and others.

"There are a few young players that come here, like a few players from Belgium that are on the global market, like big players that could surprise us. Colombia have a few players that could also be a surprise."

Matuidi and Maxwell sign new Paris Saint-Germain deals

    370815_heroa.jpg

Paris Saint-Germain stars Blaise Matuidi and Maxwell have both signed fresh contracts with the Ligue 1 leaders, who have yet to officially announce the deals.

Prior to Tuesday’s 4-0 Champions League victory over Bayer Leverkusen, the duo penned fresh contracts while Thiago Motta has verbally agreed new terms with the Parc des Princes club and will shortly follow suit.

Although there has been much speculation over Matuidi’s future due to a contract that expired in the summer, the Parisian club were always confident of retaining the energetic midfielder ‘s services and have rewarded his excellent form with a pay rise.

Former Barcelona left-back Maxwell has also seen his wages improved, although his deal remains set to expire at the end of next season.

The future of Alex and Jeremy Menez may lie away from the French capital, however. Both have contracts that expire in June, with the centre-back’s non-EU status counting against him while former Roma attacker Menez has struggled to hold down a regular place in the team.

Chelsea boss Mourinho plots Zanetti swoop

    371452_heroa.jpg

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has made an informal move to bring Inter's Javier Zanetti to Stamford Bridge in a player and coach role, Goal understands.

The versatile 40-year-old, who moved to San Siro in 1995, worked under Mourinho during the Portuguese's two-year spell at the the Giuseppe Meazza, during which time the club completed an unprecedented treble.

Zanetti, though, is out of contract with the Nerazzurri in June and, while his family are settled in Milan, is considering the proposal and could be tempted by a reunion with Mourinho.

The 51-year-old coach, who has frequently bemoaned the inexperience within his Chelsea side, has suggested that the Argentine join the playing staff for the 2014-15 campaign before taking on a position within his backroom team for the following season.

Mourinho is eager to add experience and title-winning pedigree to his ranks, and his plans have been approved by owner Roman Abramovich,

Zanetti, however, remains committed to Inter and will hold talks with president Erick Thohir to clarify his position at the club and whether he would be able to begin his coaching career with the Italians.

The former Argentina international, who has 145 caps for his country, considers Milan his adopted home and it would take a serious charm offensive from Mourinho to lure his former charge to west London.

Unlucky Manchester United boss Moyes just needs time, says Pulis

    367802_heroa.jpg

Crystal Palace manager Tony Pulis is confident Manchester United will give David Moyes the time needed to turn around the club's poor form, which the Welshman attributes to bad luck.

The reigning champions travel to Selhurst Park on Saturday looking for their first win in four league matches, while Palace, reinvigorated under their new manager, have won three of their last four games.

But Pulis believes Old Trafford counterpart Moyes will eventually lead United out of their current rough patch and is convinced the Scot will get the support and patience he needs to rebuild.

"They've got some outstanding players and I've watched the last three games on tapes and they could have won the games comfortably," he said.

"Last year - with Sir Alex (Ferguson) - they did have breaks. They never played as well as they did the previous year but they had the breaks and they won the games.

"Unfortunately - with Dave - they haven't had the breaks, so they've not been able to pick up momentum.

"In time, David will turn it the way he wants it. The people behind the scenes will give David that time.

"Irrespective of what the press and the media will say, he couldn't be at a better club with better people.

"They've been there before, albeit 25-30 years ago, but they were in this position before."

The Welsh boss admits it was a setback to have their last fixture at Everton called off during a good run of form, but praised the Goodison Park outfit for their treatment of the travelling party.

"It's disappointing because were on such a good run," Pulis added. "You want to keep playing when things are going well for you.

"Everton were absolutely fantastic. When the game was called off, they fed the players, they found us a hotel to stay in, they got us training facilities the next day and they paid for everything. They actually paid for everything.

"I just hope the chairman's already paid back what we owe them. As a football club, they deserve a lot of credit for the way they looked after us."

:love:Del Bosque: Jese & Thiago are World Cup contenders

    340972_heroa.jpg

Spain coach Vicente del Bosque says Jese Rodriguez and Thiago Alcantara are in contention for his World Cup squad.

The Real Madrid youngster has been in fine form in recent weeks, netting in five of his last six games, while midfielder Thiago has shone under Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich this season since his move from Barcelona last summer.

The world and European champions have a number of viable options at their disposal in either position, but Del Bosque refused to rule out the possibility of the young stars heading to Brazil.

"Jese is in this group that can potentially come. I have never said otherwise," he told Marca.

“We must be cautious in the case of Jese and many other players. We still have three months to go before the start of the Championship. There is time to appreciate it.”

When asked about Thiago, the 63-year-old said: “Yes, he is a guy who is having many minutes at a great club such as Bayern. He is one for the future, but it's clear he is among the 40 or more players we are looking at.”

The Spain coach also spoke about the controversy of the recent Madrid derby as several Real players clashed with Atletico's Brazilian-born Diego Costa, who has opted to represent Spain.

"My answer was disgust. I don't like it when a player of ours does things that we saw that day," Del Bosque said.

"We should portray a certain image, especially those who have been world and European champions. That means we are obliged to be even more honorable."

:(Vidic 90 per cent at Inter, says Thohir

    366694_heroa.jpg

Inter president Erick Thohir has confirmed that Manchester United centre-back Nemanja Vidic is set to sign for the Italian club for next season.

Vidic said earlier in February that he would leave United once his contract had expired and Goal revealed that the Serbian, who spent eight years at Old Trafford, has agreed to join the Nerazzurri on a two-year deal in the summer.

Thohir confirmed to reporters on his arrival in Italy on Thursday that a deal is very close to completion, which would see the 32-year-old join the San Siro side.

"Vidic? I can not say more than that it is 90 per cent done. When everything is completed we will make an announcement. Do not make me say anything that is not concrete yet," he said.

Vidic had been linked with a number of interested clubs including Juventus, Galatasaray and Monaco, but Inter's general manager Piero Ausilio has been in close contact with the defender's representatives and attended the Premier League clash between Manchester United and Arsenal, where a gentleman's agreement was struck.

Meanwhile, Thohir reflected on Inter's return to winning ways following a poor start in 2014.

He added: "We've taken maximum points in the last two games; the team is good at this time, the team is more balanced. Thanks to Walter Samuel the defence has become more solid, and with Hernanes we have more solutions."

Fifth-placed Inter are gearing up for their clash against Cagliari on Sunday.

Vidic would be a good signing for Inter, insists Handanovic

    274631_heroa.jpg

Samir Handanovic believes Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic will prove to be a valuable addition for Inter.

The Serbian centre-back is set to join Inter on a two-year deal at the end of the season after deciding to leave United on a Bosman move following a stellar eight-and-a-half years at the club.

Handanovic has made it clear that the 32-year-old is more than welcome at the Serie A side, telling Sky Italia: "I don't know Vidic personally but I think his career speaks for itself.

    "He would strengthen us."

The Inter goalkeeper then went on to discuss his own future in the wake of reports linking him with Barcelona and he made it clear that he has no intention of leaving the Nerazzurri.

"Do I find the Barcelona links flattering? I think any player would be honoured, but in any case it's in the past and I'm happy here," he said.

"I only see myself at Inter. Nowhere but Inter."

Handanovic also had his say on the recent arrival of Hernanes from Lazio and admitted that the signing of the midfielder has lifted the spirit at the club.

"Hernanes' arrival has definitely helped boost morale. Whenever a new player comes in it always brings a bit of extra enthusiasm," he added.

Monaco 3-2 Reims: Kurzawa saves Ranieri’s men at the death

    371864hp2.jpg

Monaco’s Ligue 1 hopes remain intact after a 95th minute strike from Layvin Kurzawa saw them beat 10-man Reims 3-2 at Stade Louis II on Friday evening.

An early header from Valere Germain gave Claudio Ranieri’s side the early edge but after a lively start they failed to maintain their momentum.

Monaco were punished early in the second half when Oniangue spun brilliantly on the edge of the box to level and though Jeremy Toulalan replied with his first Ligue 1 goal in nearly a decade, the midfielder would equalise once more after a goalkeeping error.

And Kurzawa was on hand to snatch a somewhat undeserved winner five minutes into stoppage time after Aissa Mandi had been sent off.

A surprisingly open start to the match favoured the hosts against opponents they had failed to beat in their two previous meetings this term. In the first five minutes Toulalan volleyed wide following a Joao Moutinho corner but on the next occasion the Portuguese delivered Germain was able to glance a header into the net at the near post.

After such a positive start, Monaco allowed the pace to drop and the match to become a scrappy affair and by the time Reims drew level at the beginning of the second period, it was hard to deny the Champagne club deserved parity.

Odair Fortes burst forcefully away down the right flank before passing inside to Oniangue, who spun Ricardo Carvalho beautifully before holding off a challenge from Eric Abidal and slotting a calm finish past Subastic.

Monaco were awoken by this blow yet when they moved into the lead, the goal was scored by the unlikeliest of figures. Toulalan had scored his only previous Ligue 1 goal against Strasbourg in October 2004 yet a fizzing shot from the edge of the area doubled his career tally and gave the hosts what was to be a brief advantage.

Barely seven minutes later, Reims were presented with a simple opportunity to fight back once more. A free kick into the box was poorly dealt with by Subastic and after the goalkeeper failed to make any contact, the ball broke kindly for Oniangue, who fired into the unguarded net.

Efforts from James Rodriguez and Germain in the closing stages offered some threat to the visiting side, who would finish with 10 men as Aissa Mandi was dismissed for a high, late challenge.

Kurzawa was the victim of that tackle and he made Reims pay just as it seemed they had held on for a point. A James shot bounced off the post five minutes into stoppage time and he reacted quickest to tap home from close range.

Ranieri’s men have closed the gap on Paris Saint-Germain at the summit of the league to just two points prior to the capital side's trip to Toulouse on Sunday, while inflicting just a third away defeat of the season upon Reims.
