Stuivenberg added to Manchester United coaching team

Louis van Gaal has added Albert Stuivenberg to his Manchester United coaching set-up, the club have announced.

Stuivenberg, who has given up his post at the helm of Netherlands Under-21s, starts the role of assistant coach at Old Trafford immediately.

With Louis van Gaal not currently at United as he leads Netherlands' charge in the World Cup, the 43-year-old will begin work alongside assistant manager Ryan Giggs.

Stuivenberg previously led Holland's Under-17s to European Championships wins in 2011 and 2012.

He is the fourth confirmed member of van Gaal's entourage alongside Giggs, Marcel Bout and Frans Hoek.

The futures of the likes of Nicky Butt and Phil Neville, who worked under David Moyes, have yet to be announced.

Van Gaal's Netherlands side are through to the semi-finals of the World Cup after beating Costa Rica 4-3 on penalties after 120 minutes, and will play Argentina.

Neymar has 'no chance' of World Cup miracle, says team doctor

Brazil team doctor Jose Luiz Runco says Neymar has "no chance" of being fit for the World Cup final despite lingering suggestions he could make a miraculous comeback by playing through the pain barrier.

The striker injured a vertebra in his back after a challenge from Colombia's Camilo Zuniga in the quarter-finals, that ruled him out of the rest of the tournament.

However, there have been increasing murmurings in Brazil's media that the Barcelona forward, 22, could pull off a remarkable turnaround to feature at the Maracana should the Selecao see off Germany in their semi-final on Tuesday.

Reports had even surfaced that the forward himself believes he can recover in time as the initial, excruciating pain of the injury has faded.

Runco, though, moved to clarify the situation by confirming that there is no way the striker would be able to feature as it could risk ruining his future fitness if the current injury is aggravated.

"There's no chance of him playing in the final of the World Cup," the Brazil team doctor told TV Globo. "He can be with the team, yes, but there's no chance he can be on the field. No way.

"We will not create the illusion of something that does not exist. We have no choice but to not play him.

"Neymar has an injury which needs to heal. It could seriously risk his recovery if he plays, and jeopardise his career."

Brazil will also be also without suspended captain Thiago Silva for the clash with Germany for a spot in the World Cup final where fellow semi-finalists Netherlands or Argentina await.

Eto'o in Italy for Roma talks

Roma will hold talks with the representatives of Samuel Eto’o on Monday afternoon, Goal can reveal.

The Serie A club will meet with the Cameroonian's camp in the Italian capital in a bid to persuade the former Chelsea striker to follow Ashley Cole to the Stadio Olimpico.

Roma manager Rudi Garcia is a big admirer of Eto’o, who is a free agent after his one-year contract with the Blues expired at the end of June.

The striker did not score for Cameroon during their dismal World Cup showing, missing two of their three matches through injury, but he netted 12 times for Chelsea last season following his move from Anzhi Makhachkala.

The Giallorossi’s swoop for Eto’o comes as they finalise the capture of his former team-mate Cole.

The 33-year-old left-back arrived in the Italy capital on Monday morning to put the finishing touches to his move and sign a two-year contract worth €48,000 per week after tax.

Juventus sign Coman from PSG

Juventus have confirmed the signing of Kingsley Coman from Paris Saint-Germain on a five-year deal.

The 18-year-old French midfielder has joined the Bianconeri having made only three league appearances for the Ligue 1 champions.

He made his debut for the club in February 2013, becoming the Parisians’ youngest-ever player in the process.Coman is described by the official Juve website as “predominantly right-footed, a technical and creative player blessed with extraordinary pace, long-range shooting ability and a unique vision to dictate the game.”

He was born in Paris on June 13 1996 and began his career at the US Senart-Moissy academy before moving to the Parc des Princes in 2004.

The youngster has represented France at every youth level from U-16 to U-21 and he made his Les Bleuets debut in June of last year, scoring in a 6-0 victory over Singapore.

Courtois continues to cast a long shadow at Atletico, admits Moya

Miguel Angel Moya freely admits that replacing Thibaut Courtois at Atletico Madrid represents the biggest challenge of his career, conceding that the Belgian will continue to cast a long shadow at the Vicente Calderon until someone proves himself a worthy successor.

Courtois has established himself as one of the world's best goalkeepers after a hugely successful three-year loan stay in the Spanish capital but he is expected to return to parent club Chelsea this summer.

Having signed for La Liga champions Atletico in early June, former Getafe man Miguel Angel Moya is the man charged with the responsibility of filling the void, but he admits that Courtois will not be an easy act to follow.

“Courtois’s shadow will be long until the goalkeeper who replaces him can also show that he can do well," he told Goal.

“In football, no matter how well you do, the memory is short. Now, I am here and if I am lucky enough to do well, people will forget.

“This is the challenge and I think it has come at a good moment of maturity for me.

“I was recruited for Atletico without knowing if Courtois would stay or go. But when the offer came, I had to say yes.

“This, for me, is a prize ... or a reward, depending on how you look at it. I will try to prove myself, try to train well and win the confidence of the coach. If I do not, it’s because another [goalkeeper] is better than me."

Moya also revealed that the opportunity to work under Diego Simeone had also played a major part in his decision.

“I do not know him as I never worked with him, but I have read his book," he explained.

“I am new and I have come from a lower team, so I’m going to try and follow the path. He is my new boss and has shown so much.

"If 'El Cholo' tells a player to jump off a bridge, he will do it, because he is the leader of this team.”

Bayern Munich sign versatile Valencia full-back Bernat

Bayern Munich have signed versatile full-back Juan Bernat from Valencia for a reported €10 million.

The German champions revealed that the left-footed Spain Under-21 international, who can also play on the wing, has penned a five-year contract and will link up with his new team-mates on Thursday.

"Juan Bernat is an extraordinary young player," Bayern sporting director Matthias Sammer told the club's official website.

"We scouted him for a long time. He is fast, a strong tackler and a real threat to the opposition's goal.

"We are sure that he will prove a very good investment in terms of the future of our team."

Bernat, meanwhile, admitted that he cannot wait to make his first appearance for Pep Guardiola's side.

"I am very happy that I will be able to play for this massive club," he enthused. "Bayern are one of the biggest teams in the world.

"I am very excited to play in a team with [Philipp] Lahm, [Manuel] Neuer, [Bastian] Schweinsteiger, [Arjen] Robben and [Franck] Ribery, and to have Guardiola as a coach."

Bernat, who is a product of Valencia's youth academy, will wear the No.18 jersey at Bayern.

'No way Neymar can play in World Cup final'

There is "no way" that injured Brazil forward Neymar could play any further part in World Cup 2014, according to Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) medical chief Jose Luis Runco.

The Barcelona attacker suffered a fractured vertebra in his country's quarter-final win over Colombia and was promptly ruled out of the remainder of the tournament.

Reports subsequently surfaced that Neymar could be fit for any final appearance by the host nation with the aid of an intensive treatment plan put together by the player's former club, Santos.

However, those rumours have been quashed by Dr. Runco during an interview with ESPN.

"Absolutely no way he's playing a World Cup final," the CBF's medical chief declared. "He may follow the group, okay, but there's no chance of being on the pitch. There's just no way this could happen."

Runco's stance was backed up by the CBF, who explained that Neymar has been told to rest at home until after the World Cup is over.

“We clarify that the visit by the Santos FC's doctors that took place yesterday [Sunday] was only a cordial measure,” read a statement.

"The club from Santos has made available its entire structure for Neymar Jr's treatment and recovery after the World Cup is over.

“The reports [of him playing the final] are not true, as Neymar is under care of the CBF medical chief, Dr. Jose Luis Runco, until the tournament is over.

"He was the one responsible for allowing the athlete's leave to continue his treatment - complete rest - at home with his family. The player is being followed on a daily basis by his private physiotherapist.”

Brazil are set to face Germany in the first semi-final in Belo Horizonte on Tuesday.

Pedro: Barcelona changes will be good for team

Barcelona winger Pedro Rodriguez is confident the grand turnover of players and staff at the club this summer will prove fruitful in the long term.

Goalkeeper Victor Valdes revealed he would depart Camp Nou long before his contract expired at the end of last season, while captain Carles Puyol recently announced his retirement from the game.

Cesc Fabregas has also moved on to Chelsea, as new boss Luis Enrique reshapes the club in his vision, while second choice keeper Jose Manuel Pinto has been allowed to move on.

Barcelona have acted swiftly to bring in fresh talent as well, with 31-year-old Chilean keeper Claudio Bravo arriving from Real Sociedad and 22-year-old shot-stopper Marc-Andre ter Stegen signing from Borussia Monchengladbach.

With the club still negotiating with Premier League side Liverpool for striker Luis Suarez - which could see Alexis Sanchez go the other way - Pedro has admitted he has mixed feelings over the current transition.

"It's a shame that captains like Valdes and Puyol have left,” he told Spanish TV station, TV3."There is a big turnover in the staff and players – but many changes like that can be good for the team.”

The 26-year-old’s future has been up in the air after the Spain international recently admitted he was unsure whether he would still be playing at Barcelona next season.
Pedro was regularly substituted for the club last term, despite featuring in 37 of the Catalan giants league games, resulting in the winger being linked with a move away from the Spanish giants this summer.But, Pedro has revealed that he has been reassured about his role at the club by sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta.

"Zubizarreta made me calmer, they were nice statements, and what’s the most important is how I do my job," he said.
