    ලංකාවෙ අඩා...!
Dutch should've been in the Final...They are the best team after Germany who destroyed the Great Spanish side,And came from behind magnificently to win against Mexico...(Though Robben got the final Penalty by inducing a shameful simulation).
Dutch team was really magnificent..Great team with Van Percy,Snider,Kuyt, and that never say die flying Dutchman....Arjen Robben...(To me player of the tournament..!)
    Deserved final....NED vs GER...

Brazil 0-3 Netherlands: Dutch heap more misery on Selecao in battle for third

    434661_heroa.jpg

Brazil suffered further World Cup humiliation as Louis van Gaal signed off as Netherlands head coach with a 3-0 victory in Brasilia.

The tournament hosts entered Saturday's game hoping to restore some pride following a 7-1 semi-final drubbing against Germany. However, they were undermined as first-half goals from Robin van Persie and Daley Blind and a Georginio Wijnaldum injury-time effort ensured Van Gaal's men took the dubious honour of finishing third.

Not even the presence of talisman Neymar on the bench, albeit not among the substitutes due to the broken vertebra suffered in the quarter-final against Colombia, could rally Brazil.By contrast, Netherlands were excellent as they sent Van Gaal off to his new role as Manchester United manager on a high.

While the semi-final shootout loss to Argentina will sting, the new Old Trafford supremo will surely look back fondly on a campaign that was not expected to progress beyond a group featuring Spain and Chile.

However, there are few positives for Brazil, whose defeat further consigned their efforts to a dark chamber in their nation's rich footballing history and leaves coach Luiz Felipe Scolari facing an anxious wait over his future.Such a result seemed unlikely when Wesley Sneijder picked up a hamstring injury in the warm-up, Jonathan de Guzman deputising.

Yet there were no such issues when the game began, with Van Persie putting Netherlands ahead from the penalty spot inside three minutes with his fourth goal of the World Cup.The striker was instrumental in the move that brought the spot-kick, his clever ball freeing Arjen Robben, who was pulled back by Thiago Silva.

Back in the side following suspension, the skipper was fortunate to only be shown a yellow card, although Brazil felt aggrieved given the contact appeared to be outside of the box.

Undeterred by the subsequent protests, Van Persie despatched a perfect penalty in the top corner that may have left many fans wondering what might have been had he still been on the pitch versus Argentina.

Things quickly went from bad to worse for Brazil as David Luiz's dreadful headed clearance from De Guzman's cross gifted Blind the simplest of finishes after 16 minutes.

The hosts did at least threaten an equaliser, Paulinho and Luiz somehow failing to get on the end of Oscar's wicked delivery across the six-yard box.To their credit, Brazil continued to battle after the interval with Ramires hitting narrowly wide after getting the better of Ron Vlaar.

Brazil's hopes of getting back into the game were undermined by further poor refereeing, too, as Oscar was booked for diving in the area having been brought down by Blind. That the left-back was subsequently carried off on a stretch due to the contact only added to the farce.

Even if the penalty had been given, a Brazil comeback seemed unlikely, with a campaign that initially carried such hope ending with a whimper when Wijnaldum powered home Daryl Janmaat's cross in the 91st minute.

I am not Rambo, says Mascherano

    434079_heroa.jpg

Javier Mascherano says he is being praised too much after his heroics in Argentina's World Cup semi-final win over Netherlands, insisting he is "not Rambo".

The Barcelona star put in an excellent display throughout the game, despite suffering a head injury in the first half, and made a magnificent last ditch tackle to stop Arjen Robben from taking a great opportunity in the dying minutes of the game.

Mascherano was seen as the hero of the game as the South Americans went on to win the game on penalties, booking their place in the final against Germany. However, he insists he doesn't like the amount of praise he has received from fans and the media.

"I'm not Rambo or Jose San Martin or anything," he told Ole. "I take it with humour, but I am ashamed. And that is not false modesty, as false modesty is worse than arrogance.

"When you flatter people too much, others start to have expectations that can not possibly be met. In recent days that has happened. Most people think that you can do things that you can't really.

"We want to win the final and become world champions, we play without any complex or fear."

The Barcelona player admits Germany are an excellent team, but is confident his side can stop them and hurt them on the attack.

"They are good, strong, powerful and know how to play. But I trust Argentina, With our weapons we can neutralise many of the good things they do and create problems."

Higuain is going nowhere - De Laurentiis

    432949_heroa.jpg

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has ruled out selling Gonzalo Higuain and backed the striker to score in Sunday's World Cup final.

Argentina frontman Higuain has been linked with a move back to La Liga, with Barcelona reported to be lining up a big-money bid for the 26-year-old.Higuain, who recently said he was happy to stay at the Serie A club, scored 24 goals in his first season at Napoli following a move from Real Madrid and De Laurentiis says he has no intention of allowing him to move on.

"I'd say that Higuain is not to be taken," he told La Gazzetta dello Sport. "He's ours and we will keep him. Also because in his contract there is a release clause of €100 million."Higuain is set to line up for his country against Germany in the World Cup final at the Maracana on Sunday, and De Laurentiis expects the striker to get on the scoresheet.

He added: "He's our pride, he's in the World Cup final and he will score against Germany."

Beckham tips Messi for World Cup final starring role

    434442_heroa.jpg

David Beckham has tipped Lionel Messi to play a key role in Sunday's World Cup final and has hailed the Argentina star's winning mentality.

Messi has scored four goals and assisted another on the way to the final and will now lead his country out at the Maracana as Argentina look to beat Germany and win the tournament for the first time since 1986.

Beckham acknowledged Joachim Low's talented squad but feels the Barcelona man is the only true "star" gracing the field on Sunday.

"He's amazing," said Beckham. "He gives people so much pleasure with the way he plays and what makes him special is he plays as a team-mate as well, [he is] a good team player.

"He's got great individual skill, but winning means everything to him. If other team-mates score goals he's the first one there to celebrate with them and I think that says a lot about him.

"Playing for Argentina, I'm sure there's a certain amount of pressure, but going as far as they've gone is incredible. It means so much to him, his family and everyone else around the world, the fact Messi's going to be playing on this stage.

"Germany came to the tournament with great experience, people are not too surprised they've got as far as this. There's no particular star, they've just a great group that play well together.

"Argentina have a group of talented players who play with a lot of passion, but Lionel, I'm just excited to see him play."

Beckham also recognised the achievements of competition surprise packages Costa Rica and Colombia after they both reached the quarter-final stage for the first time in their history.

"It's been a great World Cup. The fact you've seen teams like Costa Rica and Colombia perform the way they have and some great young players coming out of the competition, it's been great to see," he said.

Sabella: Argentina need to be perfect against Germany

    434219_heroa.jpg

Alejandro Sabella believes Argentina will need to play "the perfect match" to beat Germany in Sunday's World Cup final at the Maracana.

Argentina overcame Netherlands in a penalty shootout on Wednesday after a goalless 120 minutes in Sao Paulo to set up a date in Rio with Germany, who thrashed hosts Brazil 7-1 in Belo Horizonte on Tuesday.

And the Albiceleste coach insists his side cannot take any risks when they face Joachim Low's men in the ultimate clash.

"We have to play a great match against Germany," Sabella said at his pre-match press conference on Saturday. "We will need to cover spaces, occupy spaces and not take risks in areas where you can't take chances.

"Physically and tactically speaking, Germany have always been an extremely powerful team and they are one of the teams that have won the most titles. They have a very defined system of play, they are very direct, very strong, they pass the ball between the lines, use diagonal balls and get the full-backs forward on the flanks."We need to play the perfect match."

Sabella refused to discuss his future after quotes from his agent suggested Sunday's match would be his last as Argentina boss, saying the only thing that mattered was his side's clash against Germany."I have not discussed anything with my family as regards my future," he said. "It's not at all relevant right now. What's relevant is the World Cup final.

And he added: "From a professional point of view this is most important thing in my career, even more than the final of the Copa Libertadores, which was also here in Brazil."Angel Di Maria trained in Rio on Saturday, but Sabella refused to reveal whether the Real Madrid winger would play a part on Sunday following his recent thigh injury.

"Tomorrow we'll see," he said. "At the moment I can't say anything about that."

Thiago Silva: We didn't deserve this ending

    434712_heroa.jpg

Brazil captain Thiago Silva has lamented the end to his side's World Cup campaign after their disheartening 3-0 loss to Netherlands in Saturday's third-place play-off.

The Selecao had been favourites to win the tournament on home soil, but were thrashed 7-1 by Germany in the semi-finals before losing the consolation match to the Dutch.

And Silva insists his team deserved better than conceding 10 goals two games and settling for fourth place.

"We are frustrated. We dreamed of this moment," the Paris Saint-Germain star told TV Globo.

"I barely slept last night and for it to end like this.... We didn't deserve this ending. Unfortunately that's football.

"We have to apologise to those who supported us against Germany and Netherlands. They booed us at the end, but that's completely normal because they have feelings too.

"It's a big disappointment to go home and tell your family that you didn't make it. It's tough."

Meanwhile, Oscar admitted he was deflated by the defeat, insisting the whole team was left "very sad" by the ending to their campaign.

"It's a terrible feeling. There are no words to describe it," he added.

"We suffered a big defeat against Germany that no-one expected and we came on the pitch trying to get third place, but it wasn't our day.

"We created some chances and played fairly well, but lost. There's nothing left to say. We have to look at our mistakes and plan for the future.

"We conceded a goal within two minutes and that makes things hard for you. Everyone is very sad. The Brazilian people are sad as well. But we tried until the end, unfortunately we couldn't finish with a win."
