    Podolski: I'm unhappy at Arsenal

    463804_heroa.jpg

"Unhappy" forward Lukas Podolski has insisted his status at Arsenal "has to change" and is open to leaving the club in January.

The Germany international, who has been afforded less than 40 minutes of Premier League football this season, revealed earlier in October that he "has to think about" a possible exit.

An injury suffered by Olivier Giroud prompted Arsenal to rebuff offers for Podolski during the summer, with Juventus and Wolfsburg interested, but the attacker has not ruled out an exit during the next transfer window.

"I have assessed my position in the team and it has to change now," Podolski told reporters.

"Let's see what happens in the winter. The fact is that I'm not happy with it, that's clear."

Poldolski, whose contract expires in 2016, has fallen further down the pecking order following the €20 million arrival of Danny Welbeck from Manchester United in September.

Suarez: I'm 100% ready for Barca debut in Clasico

    469786_heroa.jpg

Luis Suarez has declared himself "100 per cent ready" to make his Barcelona debut against Real Madrid in October 25's Clasico.

The Uruguayan has been on the sidelines since his €86 million move from Liverpool to Camp Nou due to his four-month competitive football ban for biting Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup.

But he is allowed to make his official debut for Luis Enrique's men in the showdown between the Spanish giants later this month, which comes after a Liga clash with Eibar and Champions League tie against Ajax.

Suarez, who played in friendlies for Uruguay in the current international break, stressed his lack of match action has not affected his fitness and that he is ready to make a difference for Barca.

"To make my Barcelona debut at the Santiago Bernabeu would be very special," the 27-year-old told reporters at the presentation of the 2013-14 Golden Shoe award he shares with Cristiano Ronaldo for scoring more goals (31) in league football than any other top level player in European football."Before these games with Uruguay I was not able to play, but now I feel really good physically - better than I had expected. I'm 100 per cent ready.

"Adapting to Barca is not a problem, I just want to get out on the pitch and have fun. I'm at a club I always wanted to be at, I'll try to do the same in front of goal that I did for Liverpool, to do what the coach asks and score important goals."

    B0Akyv_IMAE_mDu.jpg

Suarez added that it feels great to be honoured with the Golden Shoe alongside the likes of Ballon d'Or winner Ronaldo, whom is now a major rival since he left Anfield for Camp Nou."On a personal level it is always welcome to get awards like this but you do not get anywhere without all of one's team's effort every day," the striker added.

"I am proud to share prizes with important players [like Ronaldo] on a global scale."

Ghana 3-1 Guinea: Gyan and Ayew on target for Black Stars

    454341_heroa.jpg

Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu's injury-time strike secured all three points for Ghana as the Black Stars beat Guinea 3-1 in their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match on Wednesday.

Maxwell Konadu is currently in charge of the country's Under-23 side, but he is now four matches unbeaten in his caretaker role for the senior team and his case for a permanent position is strengthening, with Ghana looking almost certain to qualify from Group E thanks to Wednesday's victory.

The two sides faced each other in Casablanca rather than Guinea on Saturday due to the breakout of the Ebola virus in West Africa, where they drew 1-1, and Ghana were keen to make amends in front of their own supporters. Both teams looked dangerous in the opening stages, but unsurprisingly it was Ghana who broke the deadlock in the 13th minute.

Solomon Asante did well to find the run of Jordan Ayew, who in turn slipped the ball into the area for Asamoah Gyan to slot into the net in routine fashion to follow up his goal in Saturday's draw.Guinea were level before the break, though, as Mohamed Yattara pounced on Ibrahima Traore's deflected freekick before stabbing home.

The second period began with Ghana controlling proceedings as Guinea looked to threaten on the counter. And the hosts eventually edged ahead just before the hour mark, as Andre Ayew converted a penalty after Gyan saw an effort blocked with a hand.

The visitors ensured a nervous end to the match, but Ghana did eventually put the match beyond Guinea as substitute Agyemang-Badu coolly slotted in from the edge of the area, sending Konadu's men on to eight points in Group E.

Nigeria 3-1 Sudan: Musa and Samuel save Super Eagles

    430388_heroa.jpg

Second-half strikes from Ahmed Musa and Aaron Samuel have saved Nigeria's chances of defending their Afcon crown in 2015.

Under-fire coach Stephen Keshi claimed his side's qualifying campaign was being "sabotaged" ahead of the Group A clash in Abuja, with the African champions bottom of their pool following a 1-0 defeat against Sudan at the weekend.

Nigeria really needed a victory in order to give themselves a fighting chance of qualifying for next year's tournament in Morocco and they finally got their first group win at the fourth attempt to ensure they moved above Sudan into third place.
CSKA Moscow forward Musa opened the scoring three minutes into the second half, but Salah Al Jizoli stunned Nigeria with an equaliser only seven minutes later.

The Super Eagles were not to be denied, though, and Aaron Samuel marked his full debut with a goal to put them back in front before Musa eased the tension with a third goal after 89 minutes.Neither side really got going in a disappointing first half, but Bakri Abdelgadir - the scorer of Sudan's winner in the reverse fixture - could have put the visitors in front just before the break when he raced into the penalty area and fired wide.

The game came to life in the second half, sparked by a clinical finish from Musa following great work from John Obi Mikel.Musa raced to the touchline to celebrate with Keshi, but Sudan responded and silenced the crowd as Salah struck from just inside the six-yard box after being picked out by Abdelgadir.

Nigeria knew only a victory would do and Samuel capitalised on a mistake from Akram El Hadi Salim to prod the ball home with his left foot after 66 minutes.
Musa then sealed three precious points when he cut inside and finished with his right foot.

:love:Hazard: I can be one of the best in the world

    465891_heroa.jpg

Eden Hazard insists he is not one of the five best players in the world, but feels he is close to it and will improve to become one.

Hazard, who netted 17 goals in all competitions for Chelsea last term, has been influential in the Blues' unbeaten start to the new Premier League campaign.

Last month it was reported that the Belgium international is on the verge of signing a new five-year-contract at Stamford Bridge, with a total package believed to be worth around €250,000-a-week.

But the 23-year-old believes he must still improve in order to be considered on the same level as the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

"I'm not a top-five player yet," Hazard told reporters. "Maybe I'm close to it, but I still have to work on some aspects.

"You can only be part of that group if you are decisive in the top games. I start doing that, like I did against Manchester City and Arsenal.

"Who are better than me? The two extra-terrestrials, Ronaldo and Messi, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben. They make the difference almost every game.

"My World Cup wasn't good, neither bad. [Belgium fans] expected from me that I would make the difference every game, like Messi does for Argentina. You can't forget this was my first World Cup and I've been decisive two times."

Hazard has been continually linked with a move to Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain, who were knocked out of the Champions League by Chelsea at the quarter-final stage last season.

However, the former Lille player has reiterated he has no interest in returning to the French top flight.

"I've always been clear - I feel good at Chelsea," he added. "Every week I repeat the same on PSG. It's a big team, but an inferior league. I don't want to return to France, because I've won everything over there - the league title, cup, best player, best young player.

"I don't want to say PSG is a step backwards, but it would be returning to something I already know. I'm always in for new challenges. When I will leave Chelsea one day, it would be to discover something new."

Hodgson ignored 'overwhelming' Sterling medical advice, says Verheijen

    468570_heroa.jpg

Roy Hodgson has been branded a "dinosaur" by football fitness expert Raymond Verheijen for failing to understand the "overwhelming" evidence regarding Raheem Sterling and the need for a two-day recovery period after matches.

Sterling complained of tiredness prior to England's clash with Estonia, leading Hodgson to start the game with Liverpool star as a substitute in Tallinn.

Sterling's age, explosive playing style and increased workload in the last 12 months are compelling reasons for the England boss to follow Brendan Rodgers' lead and reduce the Liverpool player's training load.

Verheijen, the Dutch coach and fitness guru who runs the World Football Academy, an education institude for coaches, gave Goal a detailed perspective on the club versus country row which has become more prominent in football in recent years.

"Sterling is totally right. He does need at least two days of recovery after every match. It is a given," Verheijen said.

"For Roy to say there is no evidence for this is a joke. He makes himself look like a dinosaur. There is overwhelming evidence.

"In Sterling's case, there are three reasons for this. Firstly, young players develop more fatigue during a game than mature players. His body has not fully grown yet but he has the same matchday workload as everyone else, because the game determines what you do. The load ability of Sterling is less than the load ability of a 26-year-old, which means if Sterling does the same load his body will be more tired.

"Secondly, Sterling is an explosive player. He has a lot of fast muscle fibres, which are white because not a lot of blood flows through these fibres. Slow muscle fibres are red because they need a lot of blood. If there is a lot of blood, there is a lot of oxygen. Fast muscle fibres recover slower because there is less oxygen. Because Sterling has a lot of fast muscle fibres he will [recover] slower than somebody with slow muscle fibres.

"Thirdly, because of the factors of Sterling's age and explosiveness, he is more likely to accumulate fatigue and get injured. When players have accumulated fatigue, their nervous system slows down and the signal from the brain to the muscles arrives later. For instance, if the muscles that protect the knee fail to contract in time when you are turning - because the signal has arrived a millisecond too late - you can say goodbye to your Anterior Cruciate Ligament."

Hodgson has been criticised for his team's training methods, with Daniel Sturridge rupturing his thigh muscle while on international duty in September, but insisted there is no proof players need two days to recover fully from the rigours of a match.

"I don’t think there is a lot of medical evidence to support the two-day recovery so if you want to, you might want to research that one," said Hodgson on Monday. "Certainly, the Germans, who you admire so much, don’t do it. That is for certain.

"I would expect players not to take it for granted that there will be two-day recoveries but on the other hand it could easily be like this [international break] when we did virtually nothing in terms of what I consider to be training the day after the [San Marino] game.

"We did 40 minutes including warm-up [two days after] and that was at a fairly low-level intensity. But that was my decision."

Liverpool declined to comment when contacted by Goal, but Anfield first-team coach Mike Marsh has defended the club's recovery programme.

"Our fitness programmes have been well documented," he told the club's official website. "We try to recover the players as best we can to prepare for the game. We have a couple of days' recovery after the game and we work with the group of players for the next game.

"We do quite a lot of analysis with the players so we break them up into smaller groups and feed back in different ways."

Verheijen, the former Wales and Armenia No.2 whose CV includes spells at Barcelona, Chelsea, Manchester City and with the Dutch FA, as well with the national teams of Netherlands, South Korea and Russia, says it is up to the managers to ensure players do not get injured.

"Gareth Bale is an explosive player like Sterling and Sturridge," Verheijen explained. "When I was with Wales and Bale played a Sunday match, he had a recovery session on the Monday and a day off on the Tuesday. The two days of recovery was common sense to ensure he did not get injured."

There is no crisis, Germany are just unlucky - Podolski

Lukas Podolski insists there is no crisis within the Germany national team despite their poor start to Euro 2016 qualification.

Germany's only victory since beating Argentina in July's World Cup final came against Scotland in September, a Thomas Muller double securing a 2-1 win.Joachim Low's side subsequently slumped to a first defeat against Poland at the weekend, before being held to a 1-1 draw by the Republic of Ireland in Gelsenkirchen on Tuesday.

However, Podolski, who came off the bench to play the second half against Ireland. says there is no need to panic and puts Germany's recent struggles down to bad luck. "The fact that the media want to call it a crisis is expected," said the Arsenal forward. "It was not our aspiration to win just one point in these two games.

"We didn't play bad games at all but anyway, this is football and it wasn't enough.
"We had many players who played in the World Cup. So maybe it's just bad luck."
Germany are three points behind Poland and Ireland in Group D, and will be expected to win comfortably when they host Gibraltar next month.

Immobile: Dortmund the best club for me

    469680_heroa.jpg

Borussia Dortmund may have started the new season slowly, but Ciro Immobile is convinced he was right to join the club. The Italy international agreed a five-year deal at Signal Iduna Park in June after topping the Serie A scoring charts last season with Torino.

Immobile, who was previously co-owned by Juventus and Torino, does not regret the move, even though Jurgen Klopp's men have won just two out of seven Bundesliga matches this term.

"Borussia Dortmund was the best solution for me," Immobile told Corriere dello Sport."I wanted to have an experience abroad and in the Champions League. Then there are the fans - it was said they always supported the team, but I didn't think like this.

"I will always be grateful to Juventus because they brought me through and let me go when we had different needs."Theoretically in Germany there is more space because it is less tactical, but for us things have not gone so well. We have many injured players and it is not easy to do without a lot of champions."

Immobile has only scored once in the league since his move to Germany, the equalising goal in Dortmund's 2-2 draw with Stuttgart last month., but has scored two in two in the Champions League.

    Walcott close to Arsenal comeback

    397058_heroa.jpg

Theo Walcott is in contention to make his first Arsenal appearance for nine months in Friday's Under-21 Premier League clash with Blackburn, Goal understands.

Walcott has not featured for the Gunners since rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in January's 2-0 FA Cup win over Tottenham, and also missed England's disappointing World Cup campaign in Brazil with the injury.

But the 25-year-old returned to first-team training on Monday and, barring any setbacks, could be included in Arsenal's Under-21 squad to take on Rovers at Boreham Wood on Friday evening.

Serge Gnabry may also feature for the Gunners, having participated in Monday's session as he continues his recovery from a knee injury which has sidelined him for the start of the season.

A further boost for Arsene Wenger comes with the news that club captain Mikel Arteta is back in training after missing matches against Galatasaray and Chelsea with a calf injury, while Aaron Ramsey's recovery from a hamstring problem is also progressing well.

Neither, however, are in contention for Saturday's Premier League clash with Hull City and Wenger remains cautious on the status of Mesut Ozil, who sustained a knee injury while on international duty with Germany and is not expected to return until 2015.

'Ronaldo & Messi need each other' - Laudrup

    417042_heroa.jpg

Former Real Madrid and Barcelona star Michael Laudrup believes that Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo need one another to keep improving.

The two stars have enjoyed a fascinating rivalry over the past decade, winning every Ballon d'Or between them since 2008 and regularly surpassing 50 goals apiece in all competitions each season.

Laudrup, who spent five years at Camp Nou before moving to the Santiago Bernabeu in 1994 believes that both will be remembered as some of the finest players ever to play the game when they eventually retire."I think they need each other," he told EFE."If one scores a hat-trick, the other tries to beat that. They are two of the best, not just of this era - in 30 years we'll be talking about them and the debate will be whether Messi, Cristiano, Maradona or Pele is the greatest of all time."

When asked which of them he would rather have in his team, the Dane replied: "Both would have to be in it, as they've clearly been the best two over the past four or five years."Laudrup also said that James Rodriguez must become accustomed to the pressure of representing Real Madrid before he becomes a weapon for Carlo Ancelotti's side.

"He's a great footballer. He's got to get used to playing for such a big side, with all the pressure that comes with that," he added.Real Madrid and Barcelona lock horns for the first time this season at the Santiago Bernabeu on October 25.

    Valderrama: James worth every penny

    469626_heroa.jpg

Colombia legend Carlos Valderrama believes James Rodriguez is worth every penny of the €80 million Real Madrid paid to sign him from Monaco this summer.

The 23-year-old completed a move to the Santiago Bernabeu after starring for his country at the World Cup this summer, in a deal which effectively ended Angel Di Maria's time at Madrid as he was sold to Manchester United. However,James has since scored just three goals in 12 appearances for Carlo Ancelotti's side, with critics quick to compare his output to that of Di Maria, but Valderrama believes he will soon justify his hefty price-tag."James showed his quality in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil," he is quoted as saying by El Enganche.

"The mere fact that he has adapted to an important group of quality players who are already established, has merit on its own. And for one so young like he is, even more so."It's an important period for him to learn. [The transfer fee] is a normal figure. Madrid paid what James is worth.

"Now it's his chance. He's 23 and hopes to last at Madrid for a long time."

Suarez: I led Liverpool back to Champions League

    458013_heroa.jpg

Luis Suarez insists he was the driving force behind Liverpool's long-awaited return to the Champions League.

Suarez - who joined Barcelona in a €94 million deal this summer - scored 31 goals in 33 domestic appearances as Liverpool finished just two points behind Premier League champions Manchester City last season.

Liverpool's second-placed finish was enough for the Merseyside club to end their five-year wait without Champions League football.

And speaking ahead of his return from a four-month ban for biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup, Suarez claimed Liverpool would not have achieved such success without him.

"Personal success is always welcome and makes you happy, because that's recognition of the good work you have done," Suarez told Barcelona's official website.

"But I put the team ahead of that and last season Liverpool came so close to winning the Premier League, which would have been spectacular.

"I appreciate all the work the team did. But I missed six matches and scored all those goals in the Premier League without being the penalty-taker.

"I really could leave happy because if I hadn't had the attitude and mentality to lead the team, I don't think Liverpool would have done as well as they did. Getting back into the Champions League was another target I had in mind."

Scholes: Wilshere is England's best player

    469578_heroa.jpg

Paul Scholes believes Jack Wilshere has developed into England’s best player, because “the penny has dropped” with the Arsenal midfielder.

The 22-year-old, who played 180 minutes for the Three Lions in the Euro 2016 qualifying wins over San Marino and Estonia, had previously been criticised by the former Manchester United man for failing to develop since breaking into the Gunners' first team.

But Scholes has now hailed Wilshere, who was tasked with playing at the base of a midfield diamond by Roy Hodgson, and the 39-year-old Old Trafford legend was particularly impressed by the midfielder’s passing range.

“I thought Jack Wilshere had two very good games for England during the last week,” he wrote in the Independent. “I would go one step further than that and say that, at the moment, Wilshere is England’s best player.

“The penny has dropped and he has added another dimension to his game. He has always been capable of that intricate passing game. Now he can play the ball long, too.”

Wilshere also praised the chemistry between Wilshere and his former team-mate Wayne Rooney following their impressive link-up play in recent fixtures.

“The quality of some of those passes into Wayne Rooney in Estonia was very high,” he added.

“You cannot underestimate the importance of eye-contact between a midfielder and a striker in those situations. Wilshere mentioned it in one of the interviews that he gave and I would agree that it is critical.

“With the great forwards I played with, it was often the case that you did not need a call or a signal. Often, it was just a look and it was enough to know where they were going. Wilshere and Rooney seemed to have that.”

Klopp: Fifa and CAF must open eyes to Ebola threat

    439344_heroa.jpg

Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp has pleaded with Fifa and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to open their eyes and take the threat of Ebola seriously.

The spread of the virus has thrown the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations into doubt, with host nation Morocco having already requested that the tournament be postponed.

However, the CAF has already rejected that request and a series of qualifiers were played out across the continent over the past week, with Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang netting both goals in Gabon's 2-0 win over Burkina Faso last Saturday.Klopp, though, believes football should be a complete irrelevance when people's lives are currently at risk."I don't know whether the players think about it [Ebola], but I think a lot about it," the BVB boss said.

"I spoke a lot with 'Auba' [Aubameyang] about it, tried to sensitise him of the problem as he was away with his national team. "Young people are green; they don't think that much about such things.

"I don't really understand how Fifa or whoever is responsible for that can assume that of all things the borders in Africa are safe enough that no Ebola-infected person can travel to another country. Even here [in Europe], we aren't able to do that."If there is one country in Africa which has the feeling that it can't host the Cup safely then this has to be the priority, not the Africa Cup.

"You have to take this seriously and can't shut your eyes. There will be a lot people from all over Africa in Morocco to watch the games and only a few of them would have undergone the best medical checks."

Casillas: I know I'm not immortal

    466839_heroa.jpg

Iker Casillas says he knows that he's not "immortal" but still believes that he can help Spain qualify for Euro 2016.

The 33-year-old goalkeeper was dropped by Roja coach Vicente Del Bosque for Sunday's win over Luxembourg, after making a costly mistake in the shock loss to Slovakia four days earlier.

However, despite losing his place to Manchester United shot-stopper David De Gea, Casillas is adamant that he still has plenty to offer at international level.

"I'm not immortal," the Real Madrid ace acknowledged. "I won't last forever but, at the moment, I feel good and believe I can help my country qualify for the Euros.
"After you fail to win a game, all sorts of things go through your mind; you feel angry. It's like when you have an argument with your brother and you think "I'll kill him", but you don't mean it. I want to keep playing for the national team for as long as possible while the gaffer wants me."And Casillas insisted that Del Bosque still has the utmost faith in him, even though the Spain coach recently spoke about a changing of the guard.

"We have a fantastic relationship," the Blancos skipper declared. "I'm 33 and I'm not going to play as often as I would like. De Gea and Kiko Casilla are on the up now and I wasn't put out by what he said about a soft transition."Casillas also claimed that he is more than capable of dealing with the criticism he has received for his form at both club and international level since the tail end of last season.

"When you've been in the Real Madrid and Spain team for as long as I have, people demand you be the best, the same player as always," he mused. "You have to live with that pressure and respond to criticism on the pitch. I savour trophies more these days."

Messi had 'nothing to do' with taxes, claims father

Jorge Messi has claimed son Lionel had nothing to do with his tax affairs amid allegations of fraud against the pair.

The Barcelona attacker is set to face trial over alleged tax evasion after a Spanish judge dismissed a recommendation to drop charges based on the fact Jorge Messi was responsible for his son's tax affairs.

While the pair deny any wrongdoing, they are reported to owe around €4million in tax with income said to be related to the Argentina international's image rights between 2007 and 2009, as well as a number of lucrative sponsorship deals.

However, Jorge Messi stated on Wednesday that his son has absolutely no case to answer given his total lack of involvement in the handling of the tax returns.
"I want to be quite cautious over this [topic]," he told Cadena COPE ."I have always said it: he [Lionel] had absolutely nothing to do with it, so there is no need to talk about it.

"My lawyers are dealing with this issue so it's something with me and has nothing to do with him."Messi, a four-time Ballon d'Or winner, moved to Barcelona in 2000 and was granted Spanish citizenship five years later.

The 27-year-old Rosario native reportedly earns just over €40m in wages and bonuses, and an estimated €22m in endorsements.

Platini reveals plan for white card for dissent

    416048_heroa.jpg

Uefa president Michel Platini is backing the introduction of a white card that would see players sin-binned for dissent.

The former France international believes that the verbal abuse of match officials has become a "veritable epidemic" of the modern game.Consequently, Platini wants referees to be granted the power to send players guilty of back-chat to the sin bin for 10 minutes at a time.

Platini explained, though, that the white card “should not be confused in any way with the yellow card, which for its part is dedicated to fouls within the game."The 59-year-old also revealed that he is keen to afford coaches more substitutions, with “two changes at half-time while maintaining the possibility to make three more during the course of the match."

Platini, who was speaking at the launch of his book, 'Parlons Football', has held the top job in Uefa since defeating Lennart Johansson in an election on January 2007.

The Juventus icon also won three Ballon d'Or awards during an illustrious playing career in which he also inspired France to glory at the 1984 European Championship on home soil.

Pogba: I want to become the best player in the world

    469946_heroa.jpg

Paul Pogba has revealed that his ambition is to "become the best player in the world".The midfielder has helped Juventus win two Serie A titles since joining from Manchester United in the summer of 2012 and only further enhanced his reputation by starring for France at this summer's World Cup.

Pogba's performances in Brazil saw him named the Young Player of the Tournament and he has now admitted that he is driven by the prospect of winning more individual and collective trophies."I'm very proud to receive this award and it was an honour for me to play in the World Cup," the 21-year-old told FIFA.com on Wednesday.

"I can't predict what's going to happen in the future but I'm going to do all I can to win even more trophies."I'm going to keep working hard. My aim is to become the best player in the world."

Pogba's current contract with Juventus runs until 2016 and he was repeatedly linked with Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and United during the summer.
However, the former Le Havre prodigy is in talks with the Bianconeri over a new contract and is imminently expected to pen a three-year extension.

    Guardiola: I hate tiki-taka

    470006_heroa.jpg

Pep Guardiola "loathed" the tiki-taka style that Barcelona became synonymous with under his stewardship.

Under Guardiola's command, Barca's possession-obsessed style helped them to win La Liga three times as well as the Champions League on two occasions.

The Spaniard's reign became closely linked with what was branded tiki-taka, which was initially fostered by Johan Cruyff at Camp Nou before Guardiola used it to supreme effect.

Guardiola - now at Bayern Munich - revealed in a book written by journalist Marti Perarnau that he disliked the idea of keeping possession without any forward momentum.

The book details his first campaign with the Bundesliga giants, and in it, the 43-year-old is quoted as telling his players after a below-par win over Munich rivals Nuremberg: "I loathe all that passing for the sake of it, all that tiki-taka.

"It's so much rubbish and has no purpose. You have to pass the ball with a clear intention, with the aim of making it into the opposition's goal. It's not about passing for the sake of it."In a meeting with his players the next day, he added: "You need to dig into your own DNA. I hate tiki-taka. Tiki-taka means passing the ball for the sake of it, with no clear intention. And it's pointless.

"Barca didn't do tiki-taka. It's completely made up. Don't believe a word of it. In all team sports, the secret is to overload one side of the pitch so that the opponent must tilt its own defence to cope. You overload on one side and draw them in so that they leave the other side weak.

"And when we've done all that, we attack and score from the other side. That's why you have to pass the ball, but only if you're doing it with a clear intention.
"It's only to overload the opponent, to draw them in and then to hit them with the sucker punch. That's what our game needs to be. Nothing to do with tiki-taka."

‘He’s not a real man’ - Balotelli slams Prandelli

    428354_heroa.jpg

Mario Balotelli has slammed Cesare Prandelli, accusing the former Italy coach of not being a “real man”.

The Liverpool star was publicly criticised by Prandelli following the Azzurri’s group stage exit at the World Cup, with the striker hauled off at half-time during the decisive 1-0 defeat to Uruguay.

“Real men, if they have something to say, then they come to you and say it to your face,” Balotelli told Sport.

    “I am a face-to-face person, a straight person.

“Prandelli said bad stuff about me. Should he be going and talking to the newspapers about me straight after a game? I did not expect that and I did not reply, because there is no point.

“I have to be honest and say I was disappointed at what people were saying and how they were blaming me after the World Cup.

“I think I had two, maybe three chances all tournament. Everyone knows I scored against England, but I couldn’t do much else.”

Prandelli resigned after the World Cup debacle, taking the Galatasaray job which Roberto Mancini had vacated, but Balotelli has not been called up since by new coach Antonio Conte as he has struggled to rekindle his 2013 form.

“I understand why I am not in the squad,” he stated.

“I haven’t been scoring, but players like [Graziano] Pelle and the other strikers have been. So they deserve to be there, but I love Italy and nobody can ever say anything about my national team.”

Balotelli made his Italy debut back in 2010 and has scored 13 goals in 33 appearances.
