    Official: Manchester City sign Bony

    790902_heroa.jpg

Manchester City have completed the signing of striker Wilfried Bony from Swansea City for an undisclosed fee.

As revealed by Goal earlier this week, the Premier League champions finally reached an agreement with the Welsh side over a £27 million fee on Saturday evening, and the Ivory Coast international has now penned terms on a £75,000-a-week contract.

Injury to topscorer Sergio Aguero, coupled with the lack of form and fitness of Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic, forced Manuel Pellegrini to field James Milner up front recently but City have moved quickly to secure a player they hope can boost their strike force in the race for the Premier League title.

Bony, who could be unavailable until mid-February if Ivory Coast reach the final of the Africa Cup of Nations, was the Premier League's topscorer in 2014 with 20 goals, meaning City now have the three leading scorers of the past year on their books (Bony, Aguero, Yaya Toure).

    txLqDdo.jpg

The 26-year-old's base salary of £75,000 is believed to be roughly what Matija Nastasic earned, with the Serbian defender moving to Schalke on loan earlier in the window as City look to balance their books with Financial Fair Play in mind.

"Wilfried could well be the difference in the title race, that's what City see in him," said Swansea boss Garry Monk of his former charge, who scored 34 goals in 70 appearances in all competitions since joining from Vitesse - who are due to receive 10 per cent of the transfer fee.

"I can see why their interest is there, he gets you goals. He can improve on certain things but the bottom line is he is a goalscorer and it's obviously what they want him for."

Ipswich 0-1 Southampton: Long strike sends Saints through

    816412_heroa.jpg

A fine Shane Long strike gave Southampton a 1-0 win over Ipswich in their FA Cup third-round replay at Portman Road on Wednesday evening.

Ronald Koeman's side, which saw five changes from Sunday's win at Manchester United, were made to sweat at points in the game, but the in-form visitors rarely looked like suffering an upset.

Ipswich had the better of the early exchanges, Long pouncing on a loose ball to give the Premier League side the lead 19 minutes into a tie that will not live long in the memory.

A positive half for Koeman was dampened somewhat by Victor Wanyama's injury-enforced withdrawal, as Southampton proceeded to labour after the break.

However, Southampton did enough to keep Ipswich contained as Long - who was cup-tied during former club Hull City's run to the final last season - made the most of a rare start ahead of Graziano Pelle to settle the tie and set up a fourth-round clash against Crystal Palace.

With Ipswich starting brightly, Stephen Hunt had the ball in the net after five minutes, only for it to be adjudged offside.

As Southampton grew into the game, Long made the most of the visitors' first clear-cut chance with a clinical finish from inside the area.

Luke Chambers' tackle on Harrison Reed pushed the ball into Long's path and the Irishman made no mistake – netting his first goal since November.

Long's predatory strike added to Southampton's momentum, with James Ward-Prowse's long-range strike next to threaten the goal of former Southampton goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski.

After Dusan Tadic's strike was blocked by Christophe Berra, Ward-Prowse again let fly with a wayward effort before David McGoldrick spurned a rare Ipswich foray forward by firing high and wide from a narrow angle in the closing stages of the half.

With Southampton struggling to kill the game off, Darren Ambrose - who was on target when the first game ended 1-1 - had a header on target for Ipswich as the hosts sought to crank up the pressure.

Tyrone Mings supplied the cross for Ambrose and the introduction of the former - an ex-Saints prospect - livened up proceedings.

However, Mick McCarthy's side were hampered by the withdrawal of McGoldrick just after the hour mark, with the forward appearing to injure himself in a challenge on Jose Fonte.

Ipswich struggled in a lacklustre final 20 minutes as Southampton were able to see out the result and book a home clash with Palace in the fourth round.

However, with Wanyama potentially joining the likes of Morgan Schneiderlin and Toby Alderweireld on the treatment table, Koeman will hope Wednesday's win does not come at too much of a cost.

Tottenham 4-2 Burnley: Spurs roar back to reach FA Cup fourth round

    816532_heroa.jpg

Tottenham fought back from 2-0 down to beat Burnley 4-2 and progress to the fourth round of the FA Cup on Wednesday.

Premier League strugglers Burnley were fast out of the blocks and raced into a 2-0 lead after eight minutes in the third-round replay at White Hart Lane, with the original encounter having ended 1-1 at Turf Moor last week.

Marvin Sordell scored his first Burnley goal since joining in the summer with a stunning half-volley before Ross Wallace's free-kick went in via a fortuitous deflection off Roberto Soldado.

The hosts quickly responded with a well-taken goal from Paulinho that rounded off an exhilarating opening 10 minutes and Etienne Capoue drilled home the equaliser on the stroke of half-time.

After an opening 45 minutes that had all the hallmarks of an FA Cup classic, the second half went to script as Vlad Chiriches took advantage of an error from Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton to head Spurs in front.

Mauricio Pochettino's side then showed their superiority when Danny Rose added a fourth in the 52nd minute and that proved enough to clinch a round-four showdown at home to Leicester City.

It took just three minutes for the opening goal to arrive as Sordell opened his Burnley account in style.

Kieran Trippier played a long ball down the centre of the pitch and Sordell let it bounce before unleashing an unstoppable half-volley past Michel Vorm into the left-hand corner from the edge of the box.

Burnley left the home fans stunned by doubling their advantage five minutes later when Wallace's 25-yard free-kick struck Soldado and wrong-footed a helpless Vorm.

The fast-paced start continued in the 10th minute when Spurs halved the deficit.

Andros Townsend's cross from the right picked out Soldado and his flicked header found Paulinho, who controlled the ball on his chest before swivelling on the spot and calmly volleying home from close range.

Townsend then teed up Soldado for what appeared a simple chance, but the Spaniard inexplicably lifted his shot onto the crossbar from five yards.

The home side were level in first-half injury-time, though, as Ben Davies' cross was only half-cleared and Capoue lashed home the equaliser from the edge of the area.

It took just four second-half minutes for Tottenham to complete the turnaround.

Heaton flapped at Paulinho's inswinging corner from the right and Chiriches took advantage to nod home at the back post.

Spurs made it 4-2 in the 52nd minute when Benjamin Stambouli's excellent cross-field pass found Soldado and his low centre from the right was met by the on-rushing Rose.

Pochettino's men were well in the ascendancy when Nacer Chadli flashed a cross along the six-yard box, before Soldado dragged wide from distance with just over 20 minutes remaining.

With the tie all but over, Pochettino introduced forward Joshua Onomah for his Tottenham debut.

The 17-year-old had little opportunity to make an impact, though, as the hosts comfortably ran down the clock to see off Sean Dyche's men.

Berbatov fires Monaco into Coupe de la Ligue 1 final four

    816702_heroa.jpg

Monaco saw off Guingamp 2-0 on Wednesday to book their place in the semi-finals of the Coupe de la Ligue.

Guingamp came into the game off the back of an eight-game undefeated run in all competitions, but were beaten thanks to goals from Dimitar Berbatov and Anthony Martial, with Christophe Mandanne's dismissal compounding matters for the visitors at the Stade Louis II.

Berbatov's eighth-minute goal set Leonardo Jardim's men off on the right path - the Bulgarian heading home Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco's delivery - before Mandanne was sent off following a collision with Ricardo Carvalho.Martial struck late on to settle the tie and end Guingamp's hopes, with Lille joining them in the last four later on Wednesday.

Rene Girard's men were 2-0 winners against fellow Ligue 1 side Nantes at the Stade Pierre Mauroy as the hosts kept a third consecutive clean sheet in all competitions. Sebastien Corchia gave his side the lead just nine minutes in with a stunning curled effort from distance - the defender's first goal since July.

Lille's second was similarly impressive and came from another unlikely source, this time it was Simon Kjaer curling home a free-kick to put the tie beyond doubt.
Monaco will now face Bastia in the semi-finals and Lille take on holders Paris Saint-Germain.

Lazio set up Coppa Italia quarter-final with AC Milan

    816382_heroa.jpg

Lazio saw off the challenge of 10-man Torino with a 3-1 victory on Wednesday to book a Coppa Italia quarter-final tie with AC Milan.Balde Keita opened the scoring at Torino's Stadio Olimpico with a well-taken finish from a tight angle in the 13th minute.

Veteran striker Miroslav Klose put the Rome club 2-0 up just shy of the half-hour mark when he showed his predatory instincts to meet Danilo Cataldi's centre.
Josef Martinez gave Torino hope shortly after the break when he sprung the offside trap and lashed home to reduce the arrears. However, Giampiero Ventura's side were hindered when goalkeeper Daniele Padelli brought Klose crashing to ground in the area, prompting a red card and a penalty for Lazio in the 57th minute.

Cristian Ledesma made no mistake from the spot as Lazio progressed to face Milan in the last eight. In Wednesday's other last-16 tie, Parma defeated fellow Serie A strugglers Cagliari 2-1 at the Stadio Tardini.

Gabriel Paletta put the hosts into the lead on the stroke of half-time, only for Cagliari to restore parity through Marco Sau.Parma won the match with just six minutes remaining, though, thanks to defender Andrea Rispoli's strike.

    Koeman braced for Wanyama lay-off

    816782_heroa.jpg

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman expects Victor Wanyama to be out for a few weeks after the midfielder sustained a match-ending injury against Ipswich Town on Wednesday.

Koeman's side booked their place in the FA Cup fourth round with a 1-0 win at Portman Road, but were forced to replace Wanyama at half-time.

The Kenyan midfielder appeared to hurt his hamstring and joins an injury list that also includes Morgan Schneiderlin and Toby Alderweireld.

Koeman admitted after the match that he expects Wanyama to miss a number of games, with a clearer diagnosis set to be confirmed on Thursday after a scan.

"Victor Wanyama is a pity. Before the match I spoke to him and told him he would have 45 minutes, and he got injured with 10 seconds of the half left," explained the Dutchman.

"He will have a scan [on Thursday] and we will see, but he will be missing for a few weeks."

The Premier League side were rarely troubled by their Championship opponents in the third-round replay, with Shane Long's first-half strike proving the winner, and Koeman later explained his delight at Southampton's showing against a side flying high in the second tier amid blustery conditions in Suffolk.

"We played with very good organisation. It was difficult, it was tough and it was difficult to play out there," he added.

"There were a lot of long balls and battles and we scored with our first chance.

"We kept another clean sheet and that is important. We were prepared for the game and we showed that."

Mick McCarthy, Koeman's opposite number, was left frustrated by Long's goal, which fell for the Irishman following a challenge from Luke Chambers on Harrison Reed.

However, McCarthy backed his side to bounce back in their quest for promotion from the Championship.

"We gave away a soft goal and then didn't create many chances. Southampton are a good team and have the best defensive record in the Premier League," he told the BBC.

"Whenever you lose it's always a dampener but it's not going to throw us off course."

:angry::angry:'The relationship is already broken' - Asprilla lays into Van Gaal over Falcao treatment

    794072_heroa.jpg

Former Colombia striker Faustino Asprilla has laid into Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal over his supposed poor treatment of Radamel Falcao.

Asprilla claims the relationship between Van Gaal and Falcao is "broken" and insisted that his countryman will not stay at Old Trafford next season if the manager remains in the hot-seat.

Falcao was left out of the match day squad for Sunday's 1-0 defeat to Southamtpon, and on Tuesday moved to deny rumours that he stormed out of Old Trafford as a result.

But Asprilla, who played for Newcastle United in the 1990s, says matters have already come to a head.

"If Van Gaal continues he will leave," Asprilla told IB Times UK. "I think it is a relationship that has already been broken. Falcao understands that the coach does not want him.

"I remember when I went to Newcastle, Kevin Keegan wanted me. He supported me a lot and here it is obvious that Van Gaal does not trust Falcao.

"It is sad to see how he is treating Falcao. The problem is not Falcao, but the coach. Falcao had an injury earlier in the season, but after he proved that he is still the same top scorer he used to be.

"He played five games and scored goals. But this is all about giving him confidence. After playing well some games it is inexplicable that he suddenly stops playing.

"The truth is that I do not know what Van Gaal is trying to do at United. And I think both players and fans are also confused. He does many changes without reasons."

Asprilla also tweeted throughout the Sunday defeat to the Saints, taunting Van Gaal following Dusan Tadic's winner, and even suggesting that the Dutchman cannot get the best out of South American players.

'Retirement? Maybe next year, maybe 10 years' - Robben

    810702_heroa.jpg

Arjen Robben says he will keep playing for Bayern Munich until his body betrays him - whether that's in 2016 or in 10 years' time.

The Dutchman broke through the ranks at Groningen in 2000 before making waves at PSV, where he was promptly plucked from relative Eredivisie obscurity by cash-rich Chelsea in 2004.

Three seasons at Stamford Bridge were followed by two years with Real Madrid, but he has arguably discovered the best form of his life at Bayern Munich, with whom he has been playing since a €25 million switch in 2009.

Robben was one of three current Bayern stars in the FIFPro World XI revealed at the Ballon d'Or gala on Monday and the Dutch winger, who turns 31 this month, is holding his cards close to his chest regarding when he might retire.

"I get asked when I will finish my career more often now, since I am getting older," he told reporters. "I am very relaxed on this.

"As long as my body works and I'm having fun, I will go on. Maybe one, maybe two or maybe 10 years. The older you get, the better you get to know you body."

Robben has always been glowing in his opinion of Allianz Arena head coach Pep Guardiola and the Netherlands international is a firm believer that he has been improved by the ex-Barcelona boss over the past season and a half.

"With Pep, I had a good feeling from the start," Robben added. "He tried to improve the team, but also tried to improve each player.

"I am thankful that I have worked with him for 18 months now. He made me develop and I thank him for that.

"We've played in several systems and that makes you develop as a player. I've had different positions; I like that, it's fun. It's fun to go into a tactical meeting and learn how you play somewhere new. Plus it surprises the opponent."

Bundesliga leaders Bayern, currently playing money-spinning friendlies during the lengthy German winter break, are back in action on Friday January 30 against second-placed Wolfsburg.

Simeone: Atletico better get future Ballon d'Or recognition

    808922_heroa.jpg

Diego Simeone has accused the Fifa Ballon d'Or of not caring about footballing achievements and hopes Atletico Madrid's not snubbed in future years.

The Rojiblancos astonished Spanish football fans by breaking the recent duopoly at the top of La Liga by finishing above Barcelona and Real Madrid last campaign with a team comprised of no household names - or at least not until 2013-14's miraculous run.

However, only Diego Costa and Thibaut Courtois made the 23-man Ballon d'Or 2014 shortlist, and both of them now play for Chelsea, rather than at the Vicente Calderon.

While Simeone at least made the shortlist for Fifa's coach of the year award, the Argentine finished behind winner Joachim Low, who won the World Cup with a Germany side comprising of established footballing superstars who have been playing well together for years.

And the Atletico coach, whose team are hovering just beneath Real and Barca in La Liga's table this season, accused the awards of not being based on merit as his players were left empty-handed in Zurich.

"The Ballon d'Or and FIFPro World XI are only choices, but ones which weren’t based on achievement," he told reporters. "I just hope that in the future our players will be accepted as potential candidates."

While Real are getting gushing praise off the pitch, their neighbours Atletico are on the verge of humiliating them again having already beaten them in the Supercopa and in La Liga early in 2014-15.

Last week they made Carlo Ancelotti's men look inferior with a 2-0 Copa del Rey last-16 first leg win but, ahead of Thursday's second leg, Simeone is aware that a two-goal advantage will not count for anything if they are not organised.

"I don’t want to waste any time on pre-match assumptions," the coach added. "We are up against a very strong and powerful rival.

"The stadium will be completely packed because they have lowered tickets. The atmosphere will be electric and that’s a good thing - we’re hoping for a lively, rowdy atmosphere will a lot of pressure.

"We have a positive result from the first leg in the bag but, obviously, we’re playing against the world and European champions. They change one player from their ideal XI and we know that we have to put in a very good performance."

Simeone would not confirm if Fernando Torres would be handed his second start at the Santiago Bernabeu, having been in the starting XI for the first leg.

Giroud: I tried to emulate Shevchenko

    719312_heroa.jpg

Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has admitted that he has tried to emulate the performances of former AC Milan star Andriy Shevchenko.

Ukraine legend Shevchenko carved out a reputation as one of the game's deadliest strikers during his time with AC Milan and formerly Dynamo Kiev.

And France international Giroud, who has scored 45 goals in over 100 appearances since moving to the Gunners from Montpellier, was a big fan of Shevchenko, who retired from football back in 2012.

He told the club's official website: "When I was young I tried to run like Shevchenko because he was a fantastic player and really elegant as well.

"Sometimes at training I used to start running like him. He runs in a special way and he was really powerful - short but strong. I tried to imitate his shots as well. I don't think [my coach] noticed though, because it was a quick try. It was not an obsession!"

Giroud also revealed that he has been working on his runs from attacking corners, adding: "Sometimes the boss used to say, 'Of course the striker has to go to the near post because after it will create some space behind you, even if you don't get the ball, the defenders will have to follow you.'

"After it's easier for maybe a midfielder or the other forwards to make other runs. We say most of the time, 'first post, first there'. In that situation it was true but the crosses Hector [against Newcastle] and Theo put in, against Spurs last year, were perfect. After that, it's all about the outside of my foot."

'Luis Enrique doesn't talk to his players'

    41447_heroa.jpg

Luis Enrique is "an uncommunicative coach" who doesn't talk to his players, according to former Barcelona forward Bojan Krkic.

The Spaniard, who now plays his football in the Premier League with Stoke City, worked under the current Blaugrana boss when he was in charge of the club's 'B' side.

Luis Enrique has come under-fire for dropping Lionel Messi in the defeat Real Sociedad and Barcelona's inconsistency in performance levels in the first half of the season.

And Bojan has added further fuel to the fire by hitting out at his style of leadership. "He is a very uncommunicative coach," he told L'Esportiu.
"Luis Enrique lacks understanding with the players. He has also been a player and he should know what it feels like to be in a locker room. At the end of the season we will see if his way of managing things is successful or not.
"He has a clear idea, working with his staff daily away from the players and there is little dialogue. Everyone has a different type of training and this is his."

Bojan, 24, played alongside Messi on a number of occasions when he broke through at Camp Nou back in 2007 and offered his support to his former team-mate.

"When I shared the dressing room with him, things were going well so there were no conflicts or problems. I do not know if this has changed now.
"Every player needs certain stimuli to perform and Messi wants to feel important and be in good company. He has earned the opportunity to choose when to play and when not to, because he is the leader of the club on the field."

Podolski: I don't know why Wenger didn't play me… the stats don't lie!

    789872_heroa.jpg

Lukas Podolski has again hit out at Arsene Wenger's treatment of him at Arsenal, insisting "only he knows why I wasn't played regularly".

The striker joined Inter on a six-month loan deal last week, but promptly criticised the Gunners boss over a lack of respect - accusations Wenger has since categorically denied.

Podolski failed to start a Premier League game this season before moving to Italy, and the German has pointed to his scoring record - 19 goals in 60 appearances for the club - as to why he should have been picked more.

"I never had a problem with Wenger... much has been hyped up. And the only thing I have criticised was that he did not wish me good luck in Milan," he told Bild.

"Why this [Wenger not playing him regularly] was so, he alone knows. After the World Cup in summer he still said how important I was for him. When I played, I performed. Statistics do not lie.

"The responsibility for preparation is the sole responsibility of the coach. So he must know why I barely got a chance. Then I had to find a solution, and it was Inter. The club is still one of the top ten in the world."

We're forging a new Manchester United - Di Maria

    574941_heroa.jpg

Manchester United star Angel Di Maria says that Louis van Gaal and his players are looking to forge a new identity for the team.

After last season's struggles under David Moyes and an inconsistent first few months under the Dutchman's reign, the Argentine says that comparisons to Sir Alex Ferguson's legendary teams should not be made too closely.

A defeat by Southampton last time out ended an 11-match unbeaten run for United but Di Maria feels that things are slowly coming together.

"From the start of the season to now, you can see that we've grown," he told MUTV. "We weren't so great at the beginning but we've started getting a few victories under our belts.

"There are some people saying that we're not playing in a particularly good style or that it's not the old Manchester United - but it's not. We're beginning something new here. We've got a new style, we've got a new manager and we're all working hard to make sure we're putting Manchester United back where it belongs.

"We're focusing on growing as a team, working hard and getting as many points as we can. We all know the Premier League is difficult but all we're focusing on now is meeting our objectives and our targets for the year.

"So whether it's qualifying for the Champions League, making sure that we do well in the FA Cup or getting as high in the league as possible, these are things we are going for now."

Di Maria, a British-record €77 million signing from Real Madrid in the summer, admits that injuries have not helped him to find his feet at Old Trafford but remains positive after his return to action in January.

"It is difficult for a player, especially when you come to a new club," he remarked. "You just want to arrive and you want to show them how well you can play so, when these things happen, it is unfortunate but, that said, the important thing was that when I came back, I needed to make sure that I could help the team and that's what I did.

"It's important for me and important for the team to be really doing my best and showing what I am capable of."

If Reus leaves, that's life - Dortmund

    585361_heroa.jpg

With Marco Reus' future at Borussia Dortmund still yet to be resolved, the club's CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has admitted they will be powerless to prevent him from departing if he chooses to do so.

The winger's current deal expires in 2017 but a €25 million clause inserted into his contract upon signing for BVB in 2012 means the 25-year-old will be allowed to leave this summer if a club meets that valuation.

"My big hope is that he will stay here for a long time," Watzke said on Wednesday. "If he decides differently, that's the way it is. One of the challenges in football is to benefit from staff changes in any way and create new things."

Reus is out of action for the foreseeable future after tearing ankle ligaments in the 2-2 draw with Paderborn on November 24 and has stated he wants to return to fitness before making a decision regarding his future.

Watzke added: "Of course I can understand that he wants to get fit, play again and look in which direction we're heading, first. Some time he will take his decision. It it the most normal thing in the world and it will happen soon. Whether it is in four or eight weeks, this won't be the fact that makes a big difference."

Reports in Germany have also claimed Dortmund have issued an ultimatum to midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, warning him to sign an extension to his current deal, which expires in 2016, or leave Signal Iduna Park.

However, the club insist no conversation has ever taken place, with Watzke stating: "There is no ultimatum for Ilkay Gundogan about a contract extension."

BVB endured a terrible first half of the season, losing 10 of their opening 17 games to leave them second from bottom of the Bundesliga over the winter break.

That shock start has brought the future of coach Jurgen Klopp under the microscope, though he still retains the unanimous backing of Watzke and the BVB hierarchy.

"I still consider him an excellent coach. And it would be strange to work successfully together for six years and then change your mind in a minute. I am 100 per cent sure he is the right man for Borussia Dortmund.

"Our situation is unusual and difficult. But when you have success after success for six straight years, it may happen that it goes completely the other way around for a change. Now it is up to us do deal with it.”

The girlfriend of Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea will represent Spain at the Eurovision Song Contest in May.

Edurne Garcia, 29, will represent her country at the Vienna event in May and the United shot-stopper has paid tribute to her on Twitter.

Speaking after the announcement was made, Garcia said of De Gea: "He was very happy for me when I told him, just like my family and friends. The people who love you share in your good news."

Manchester United will be preparing for their final Premier League match of the season, against Hull City on May 24, when Garcia performs in Austria the day before.

"David and I are very very happy together," she added. "I think he's going to be tied up with league commitments but I hope he can be there at the final along with my family and friends so we can live the experience together."

Garcia, who has released five studio albums to date, will sing "Amanecer" at the Vienna Stadthalle, with the semi-finals held on May 19 and 21.

Shaqiri: Forget Juventus, I only wanted Inter

    804182_heroa.jpg

Xherdan Shaqiri says he never had eyes for Juventus and only ever wanted to join Inter following his loan move from Bayern Munich.

The Switzerland midfielder completed his move to San Siro on an initial six-month loan deal on Friday, which will see him sign a four-and-a-half-year contract in the summer for €15 million.

The former Basel man confirmed reports that Serie A leaders and defending champions Juve were interested in signing him, but insisted that he only ever wanted to link up with the Nerazzurri."I'm hungry for victories and I want them to be with Inter," he told reporters on Wednesday. "My first impression is excellent, I'm sure we'll go back to the highest levels.

"Reading the papers it looks like I've been in contact with a whole lot of teams. My brother [and agent] was at work and Juventus was one of the options too, but I only wanted Inter."I can't wait to play and I think third place is within our grasp. We picked up some points over the weekend and I'm sure we'll be able to fly high again."

Shaqiri also stressed that the presence of Roberto Mancini in the dugout at San Siro was a motivating factor in snubbing offers from the Premier League and elsewhere in Serie A."I had other offers, but my choice was always clear," Shaqiri said. "The coach showed me his project, I was convinced by his words and now I want to help the club return to the highest levels.

"In spite of other offers, I always wanted Inter. I was very struck by the tifosi [fans] when I landed. It was a unique experience and I will never forget it."Taking great steps together with this coach and my team-mates is a beautiful experience."

Shaqiri was on the bench in Sunday's 3-1 win over Genoa and could make his debut this weekend as Inter head to Empoli.
