Pogba the best in Italy, but Pirlo is a football doctor - Brozovic

    414642_heroa.jpg

Inter's Marcelo Brozovic believes that Paul Pogba and Andrea Pirlo are the top players in Italy. The 22-year-old joined the Nerazzurri from Dinamo Zagreb for €8 million in January and has since made four appearances for his new club.

While he once again admitted to styling his game upon that of the Manchester City midfielder, the Croatian offered his thoughts on who the best players in his position within Serie A are.

"For me best player in Italy is Pogba, although Pirlo is the doctor of football," Brozovic told Jutarnji List. "My role model is Lampard, I always wanted to play like him."

The Croatia international is still adjusting to his new surroundings, but stated that his grasp of the English language has helped him communicate with coach Roberto Mancini and the friendship of compatriot Mateo Kovacic has enabled him to settle quickly."I have learned English with former Dinamo player Josip Simunic's help and now I use it to communicate with Mancini," he added.

"Here we work a lot on tactics, with Mancini every inch of the pitch is covered. In Croatia it is a more loose, softer approach. Mancini allows me freedom to get forward as I have a good shot. Italian football is tough, very tactical.

"With Kovacic I have explored Milan and we also play PlayStation together. He is helping me a lot and I have begun to learn Italian. He also taught me to like sushi!"
With wearing the Nerazzurri shirt comes the pressure to beat city-rivals AC Milan, something which Brozovic has admitted is causing him trepidation ahead of their league meeting scheduled for April 18th.

"When I arrived, everyone told me on April 18 we play Milan and that it is the more important than everything else, including the Juventus game. I am not nervous usually but as I think of that match, I feel it a bit," he confessed.Mancini's take on fellow European hopefuls Fiorentina on Sunday in a match that could see them close the gap on their fifth-placed opponents to just one point.

'It is not good enough' - Wenger blasted by Souness and Graham

    1021932_heroa.jpg

Arsene Wenger has been accused of being "not good enough" by ex-Liverpool player Graeme Souness and former Arsenal coach George Graham as Premier League and Champions League success look destined to evade the Gunners once again.Arsenal fell to a surprise 3-1 defeat in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie with Monaco on Wednesday and currently sit 12 points adrift of Chelsea in the English top flight.

It is a result that has drawn scrutiny of the French coach, who admitted he is under pressure to improve results, though his side could move into third position in the Premier League with a victory at home against Everton on Sunday.

However, Souness thinks that it is wrong for Wenger to keep getting away with Arsenal failure and he does not think he would has survived this long at another club."At the start of each season, we talk about favourites for the title. We don’t talk about Arsenal in that breath," the former Scotland international told The Times.

"Then we get to what Arsenal will do this year, but already know the answer. Arsenal will do what they have done for the last decade: they will look fabulous when bashing up small teams at home then get rolled over by the big teams. Their recent win at Manchester City is the exception that proves the rule.

"We also know that they will qualify for the Champions League, come through their group and lose their last-16 tie. In the past four seasons they have gone out at this stage to Barcelona, AC Milan and Bayern Munich (twice) and, barring a phenomenal performance in Monaco, it will happen again.

"Wenger wouldn't get away with it at another club. It’s not good enough. He’s too nice to players, won’t control their indiscipline and won’t spend on players. It amazes me that you never hear any of his former players criticising him."Ex-Gunners boss Graham also openly castigated the current coach, questioning his team selection and stating that simply achieving a qualifying berth for the Champions League each season is not good enough.

"There are a lot quesions to be answered at Arsenal right now, not only about the positioning of Danny Welbeck, but also why is Santi Cazorla playing wide left and why is Mesut Ozil playing wide?" Graham said on Radio 5 Live.

"Only Arsene knows the answers but I am sure he knows what he is doing and Arsenal will finish in the top four again this season."In my mind, though, that is not enough. Arsenal should be among the challengers to win the title."

Villarreal will make life difficult for Real Madrid - Marcelino

    934502_heroa.jpg

Marcelino has revealed he will set his Villarreal team up to win when they travel to the Santiago Bernabeu to face Real Madrid in La Liga on Sunday.

The Yellow Submarine previously picked up an impressive three points in the capital this season when they beat Atletico Madrid 1-0 at the Vicente Calderon and they will need to replicate that level of performance if they are to defeat los Blancos.

That is what Marcelino is aiming for, insisting he wants his team to play with confidence in an attempt to stifle Carlo Ancelotti's men on their own turf."We will aim to play a great game, to be extremely competitive and be bold when we have the ball to hurt the opposition," Marcelino said in a press conference.

"It's not easy to win in the Bernabeu. Whenever a smaller team goes there it's imperative that the opposition doesn't have a good day at the office. From there, we have to try and make sure that happens by defending well collectively and being on the ball in both areas.

"We know that it will be a tough game against one of the best three teams in the world but we are going to enjoy it. We will go out to try and make life difficult for Real Madrid."

Villarreal progressed to the last 16 of the Europa League at the expense of Red Bull Salzburg on Thursday and have been drawn against defending champions Sevilla.

They will also take on Barcelona in the second leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final tie in midweek and the coach admitted he enjoys the challenge of competing for multiple honours and always looks to play his best team.

"We will put out a suitable team to try and win in the Bernabeu," added Marcelino.
"I'm not thinking about the line-ups that Barca, Madrid or Atletico might field. I only think about my own team. We look at our squad and do what we think is best for the team."We are happy that we have so many important games. Without doubt, the further you go in a competition the difficulty level rises because all your opponents have a lot to play for, but we welcome that.

"I hope we can experience many more weeks of this kind because that will mean we are advancing in all three tournaments."Villarreal currently occupy sixth position in La Liga, six points behind fourth-placed Valencia and the final Champions League qualification spot.

Milan can still qualify for Europe, says Bocchetti

    1022022_heroa.jpg

AC Milan defender Salvatore Bocchetti believes his side can still qualify for Europe despite Saturday's lacklustre 0-0 draw at Chievo.

Filippo Inzaghi's future as Milan head coach is sure to come under further scrutiny after his side failed to turn their dominance of possession into a sustained attacking threat - Keisuke Honda's second-half effort that rattled the crossbar proving their best chance.

A draw leaves Milan some 11 points off the Champions League places in Serie A, while the gap to guaranteed Europa League football is five.Bocchetti insists that a return to Europe remains Milan's top priority, but concedes the team must do more to take advantage of their opportunities.

"I am happy that the defence didn't concede a goal. We had three or four opportunities to score that we could have dealt with better," he told Milan's official website.

"We must all give that little bit extra because our objective remains European qualification."We have to give more starting next Saturday against Hellas Verona and win."Team-mate Luca Antonelli echoed Bocchetti's sentiments and said the team regretted failing to pick up a victory.

"The only positive note is that we kept a second successive clean sheet," he said.
"We were the only side to attack in the first half. In the second we had two chances and Honda hit the bar.

"Our objective is to qualify for Europe, we will try and give something extra to achieve that. I am sorry that we weren't able to pick up three points for the fans."

Kane: I would love to stay at Tottenham for life

    1012422_heroa.jpg

Tottenham striker Harry Kane insists he would have no issue with staying at White Hart Lane for the remainder of his career.

The 21-year-old made his breakthrough as a first-team regular under Mauricio Pochettino this season and has 24 goals in 38 games so far.

Kane, who is also expected to receive a call-up to England’s senior squad later this month, signed a new five-and-a-half year contract with Spurs at the start of February.

"When asked if himself staying at Tottenham for the remainder of his career, Kane told the Sunday Telegraph: "Yes. It’s something I have said I would love to do.

"If I’m at Tottenham in 10 years’ time still playing regularly then I will be very proud and very honoured. I love the club. They’ve given me a base, growing up as a kid.

"I love playing here, I’m enjoying every minute and hopefully I can continue that for seasons to come."

Totti: Roma are ready for late title assault

    879652_heroa.jpg

Francesco Totti is confident that Roma can close the gap on Serie A leaders Juventus and salvage their wavering title challenge.

The Giallorossi, who last won the Scudetto in 2001, have been victorious in just one of their last seven league matches which has seen them fall nine points adrift of the table-topping Bianconeri.

On Monday, at 20:45CET, Roma and Juve will go head-to-head at the Stadio Olimpico and the veteran striker is adamant that his team can rediscover their finest form and put the pressure back on Massimiliano Allegri's league leaders.

"We are convinced that we can get back on track in the league, reopening the title race which people are already claiming is over," Totti wrote told Corriere dello Sport.

"We are preparing well for this match, as we did for the one against Feyenoord. We have not had a great victory at the Olimpico in a long time, so it would be nice to see the fans in celebration, rejoicing with us.

"With the recovery of our best form and the return of Juan Manuel Iturbe, and the contribution that Seydou Doumbia and Victor Ibarbo will soon provide, we can go back to being the team that the entertained the fans.

"These last few weeks have not been easy, we are so sorry to have disappointed the supporters, but I’m confident and I think the worst is over. We have a good, united group. There is still time left this season and many matches to play. Roma's ready to do our part."The 38-year-old also shared his ambitions for the Giallorossi in the Europa League and expressed his pleasure at seeing four other Serie A teams reach the last 16 too.

"We had prepared every detail before playing Feyenoord, because we knew how important it was for us, and our fans, to go through. We did not want to go out of Europe, because in this competition we can go all the way," Totti added.

"In the knockout stages of the Europa League we will meet Fiorentina in an all-Italian derby. I am happy that five Italian teams have made it to the knockout stages. It’s a good sign for our football and is important in the Uefa coefficients."

Mourinho: I rejected Tottenham after leaving Chelsea

    985572_heroa.jpg

Jose Mourinho has revealed he turned down the chance to join Tottenham after leaving Chelsea in 2007.

Mourinho left Stamford Bridge by mutual consent in September 2007 after a number of disagreements with Roman Abramovich but his chance to move to White Hart Lane was blocked by an exit clause which prevented the 52-year-old from managing in England for two years.

”I couldn't go. I could not train in England for two years,” Mourinho said of a potential switch to Spurs.

When asked if he would have made the move to north London, Mourinho replied: "No, because I love Chelsea supporters too much."

The Chelsea manager has also reiterated his desire to finish his career at Chelsea but admits he would remain in English football if he were to ever leave Stamford Bridge.

"I don't want to go away. I will stay here in this chair until owner Mr Abramovich tells me 'Jose, it's enough’,” said Mourinho.

"If one day he tells me 'Jose it's enough' I will go to my house in London and I wait for another English club.

"When I left the first time I had lots of countries to go to and lots of clubs to go to. In this moment when I leave I have another 19 clubs in the Premier League and 22 clubs in the Championship. So the options are not so much.

"But I repeat I am in Mr Abramovich's hands. Until he wants me to stay, I will stay, and that is what I want. I am not thinking about leaving, I want to stay at Chelsea for the rest of my career."

Dortmund are out of the relegation battle - Reus

    1021672_heroa.jpg

Marco Reus feels that Borussia Dortmund have escaped immediate relegation peril having clambered up the Bundesliga table with four consecutive wins.

BVB suffered a horrendous start to the campaign and spent the mid-season break in the bottom two, an astounding 30 points adrift of league leaders Bayern Munich.

Saturday's 3-0 win over Schalke in the Rivierderby moved them up to 10th position, just eight points away from fourth spot, and afterwards Reus encouraged his team to remain focused on picking up points in their forthcoming fixtures."A month ago we were talking about being in a relegation battle," the 25-year-old told the Bundesliga's official website.

"I think it's good we've pulled away from there for good now but we're just taking things one step at a time and we've now won four straight matches, which is very important."At the moment things are going well but we've got some really tough games coming up. If the teams above us in the table drop points, of course we'll try to catch them up, but there's a long way to go."

The first strike did not come until the 78th minute when goalscorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Reus donned Batman and Robin masks in celebration - something which the Germany international said was intended to bring some lightheartedness back to the team.

"We always try to have a bit of fun - there wasn't a lot of that in the first half of the season and things like that always do you good. It was just meant as a little joke," he added.

"We had a meal together two days ago and that's when we came up with the idea."

Wenger: I am under pressure at Arsenal

    1006672_heroa.jpg

Arsene Wenger insists he is under pressure to deliver at Arsenal and believes his side’s home form will be “vital” for the remainder of the season.

The 65-year-old faced further scrutiny on Wednesday after the Gunners crashed to a 3-1 defeat at home to Monaco in the Champions League, leaving them on the brink of an exit at the last 16 stage for the fifth successive campaign.

"I have exactly the same pressure as other managers,” said Wenger. “I want to win football games and it is a huge disappointment not to win it against Monaco, but that is also part of the game.

"It is true that in the last four years we have not progressed into the Champions League quarter-finals and that is why this result on Wednesday is so disappointing.

"Everything went against us as well on the night - and after that you get always slaughtered, that is part of it."

Arsenal are aiming to get back on track on Sunday when they host Everton, and a win would put Wenger’s men back into third place, one point ahead of Manchester United.

Asked what his team could achieve this term, Wenger replied: "Let's wait until the end of the season, we have 48 points today. We will see at the end of the season.

"We have massive games in front of us and we have played two times away from home more than at home in the Premier League, so the way we play at home is vital.

"The reactions today are always very emotional, but life is not always on a high.

"You have to go through lows and highs, and at the end of the day it is about how consistent you have been in response to disappointments that makes your life."

Inzaghi regrets missed AC Milan chances

    1021122_heroa.jpg

Filippo Inzaghi attempted to paint a positive picture following AC Milan's 0-0 draw away to Chievo but admitted his side's lack of cutting edge was a cause for concern.

The Rossoneri beat Cesena last weekend but followed that up with a disappointing result on Saturday, which dealt their bid to qualify for European football next season another blow.Inzaghi is also sure to come under further pressure, but the Italian remained upbeat after the game and pointed to the number of chances Milan created.

"I look at the glass half-full, because it is our second consecutive clean sheet, but then once again we lost two important players to injury and wasted scoring opportunities," he said.

“I believe we have improved in our possession over the last two games and I thought Mattia Destro put in a great performance, but we didn’t score and that is the real regret."

Milan lost Nigel de Jong and Riccardo Montolivo to injury, while January signing Alessio Cerci was only introduced late on, with Inzaghi still cautious over the winger's fitness."It is best to keep a substitution open for the final 15 minutes, as you never know if you are going to lose someone to injury and be left with 10 men," added the coach.

“We tried to use four attacking players, but unfortunately our midfielders are not in great shape after injury and a team requires balance. For the moment we will alternate them.“Alessio can play as a support striker and could be a trequartista in better condition. It hurts me too that I leave out players like Cerci and Giampaolo Pazzini, but these are the circumstances right now.

“Alessio is a player I wanted and we will get the best out of him, but let us not forget he barely played for six months, so needs time to find his form."The result leaves Milan ninth in Serie A, though victories for both Torino and Palermo on Sunday could see the Rossoneri drop into the bottom half of the table.

Murray has shades of Sheringham, claims Pardew

    1017652_heroa.jpg

Alan Pardew claims Glenn Murray reminds him of Teddy Sheringham after the Crystal Palace striker scored two goals before being sent off against West Ham on Saturday.

Murray latched onto two dangerous Jason Puncheon set-pieces to score Palace's first and third goals in a 3-1 win at Upton Park, but saw his afternoon tainted by a second booking for a foul on Winston Reid in the 69th minute.

Palace held on with 10 men to move eight points clear of the Premier League relegation zone and after the match Pardew paid tribute to his match-winning striker.

"He’s just got that nous as a No.9 to find a bit of space and to be in the crucial place at the crucial time," the Eagles boss told reporters. "He could have had a hat-trick in the first half even though - and I hope he doesn’t feel I’m insulting him - he’s not the quickest.

"I had Teddy [Sheringham] as a player here and he’s a little bit like Teddy in that he can create space for himself without a great deal of pace. Clever.
"There must have been four Championship teams who felt like they had a chance of him on loan, Reading the most prominent because he’s been there, but I gave him a new contract and said ‘you can stay and help get us out of this situation’.

"He’s been unfortunate because Fraizer came in and did brilliantly for us. He’s had to patient even in the spell I’ve been here, but he’s rewarded me and I can’t thank him enough.

"I thought he was terrific and I felt sorry for him that he got sent off. It was probably my fault as well. I should have [made a substitution] earlier. I was getting Shola ready but it was too late."

West Ham's defeat means they have now recorded just one win in 10 Premier League matches and while Allardyce admitted his side's performance had fallen short of expectations, he insisted that Murray should have received his marching orders earlier in the game.

"The number of fouls Murray committed in the first half - the one on Reid was enough for a second yellow," he claimed. "[The sending off] came too late because in between he scored a goal.

"But it’s our problem that we lost, not down to the referee."

    Allardyce 'shocked' after home defeat

    941772_heroa.jpg

Sam Allardyce claimed he was "shocked" after West Ham's 3-1 home loss to Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday.

Glenn Murray scored twice before being sent off late on, while Scott Dann also found the net, with all three goals coming from Jason Puncheon crosses, two of which were corners.

Enner Valencia scored late on but his goal proved to be nothing more than a consolation as the Hammers'
winless run was extended to six matches.

"I'm shocked. Our level of performance wasn't where I expected it to be," Allardyce said in quotes reported by the BBC.

"It's disappointing when we've built expectation levels so high at home. It's about the basics, really. If we don't play to our best, we'll struggle.

"We warned the lads about Crystal Palace's set-plays, because 50 per cent of their goals have come from set-plays. And we've conceded from two corners and a free-kick."

Murray was perhaps fortunate not to see red in the first half when he fouled Cheikhou Kouyate and Allardyce was not impressed with some of the decisions that went against his side.

He added: "I think Glenn Murray could have been sent off in the first half for the number of fouls he committed.

"He was lucky to stay on for that long. We should have had a penalty for the foul on Diafra Sakho, and it should have been a red card for Mile Jedinak too. That would have made it 3-2, and then you never know."

We don't want to sell Marquinhos to Man Utd, insist PSG

    1020822_heroa.jpg

Laurent Blanc insists Paris Saint-Germain have no plans to sell Marquinhos amid interest from Manchester United.

Marquinhos has already admitted he was pleased to learn of United’s interest, while the 20-year-old’s agent has hinted a summer deal could be possible if the Brazilian continues to be be utilised as a rotation option by Blanc.

The former Roma stopper has featured 25 times in all competitions this term, but rarely in his preferred position of central defence, with Thiago Silva and David Luiz usually preferred in the middle.

"We did everything to keep Marquinhos and extend his contract," said Blanc at his press conference ahead of Sunday's Ligue 1 game against Monaco.

"We have been showing him that he is very important and we are not ready to let him go. He is strong everywhere he plays and he is only 20.

"He is the third most-used player in the squad and people still say we don't use him enough. Having players like him is very significant for a coach.

"Can he become a monster like Thiago Silva? He has the potential to become a very good defender. He already is, but he still has room for improvement."

Berbatov is Monaco's Ibrahimovic, says Blanc

    634191_heroa.jpg

Laurent Blanc says Dimitar Berbatov is as important to Monaco as Zlatan Ibrahimovic is to his Paris Saint-Germain side ahead of Sunday's Ligue 1 clash between the two teams.

The ex-Manchester United and Tottenham striker shone in the midweek Champions League win over Arsenal, as Leonardo Jardim's side stunned the Gunners 3-1 at the Emirates in the first leg of their last-16 tie.Berbatov scored his side's second and led the line superbly and PSG boss Blanc paid tribute to the attacker's talents ahead of the crunch domestic clash.

"Berbatov is very important for Monaco as he is very strong technically, clever positionally and allows the team to move forward up the pitch," he said at the pre-match press conference.

"He is a significant player who brings calm to his team because he rarely loses the ball and uses it wisely all the time. Berbatov is an important player for Monaco, as Ibrahimovic is for us."

The future of Brazilian defender Marquinhos has again come under the microscope this week, with the centre-back reportedly unhappy at having to operate at right-back as Thiago Silva and David Luiz occupy the two roles at the heart of the back four.

The 20-year-old has still featured 25 times in all competitions, but rarely in his preferred position, although Blanc was quick to dismiss suggestions he could depart, saying he expects the former Roma starlet to grow in stature at the club.
"We did everything to keep Marquinhos and extend his contract," the coach added. "We have been showing him that he is very important and we are not ready to let him go. He is strong everywhere he plays and he is only 20.

"He is the third most used player in the squad and people still say we don't use him enough. Having players like him is very significant for a coach. Can he become a monster like Thiago Silva? He has the potential to become a very good defender. He already is, but he still has room for improvement."The loss of Lucas Moura to injury has hit PSG hard, with the forward arguably the club's star performer before succumbing to an abductor injury that has required surgery and will likely keep him out for at least four weeks.

However, Blanc remained upbeat and said it was important the Brazil international looked to the future and helping the team in the crucial final weeks of the season.
"Lucas is doing very well," said the ex-France boss.

"He did have surgery and you never have an operation with a smile. He will need to be helped as he is in a difficult moment - the exciting matches and selections are arriving with Brazil, but he will not participate. He is understandably a bit down, but we have to help him as he will be important for the end of season."

I was right to bring Di Maria off - Van Gaal

    961112_heroa.jpg

Louis van Gaal insisted he was right to substitute Angel Di Maria at half-time in Manchester United’s 2-0 victory over Sunderland.

The British-record signing failed to make an impact at Old Trafford on Saturday, extending his run without a league goal to 14 games, and was replaced by Adnan Januzaj at the break.

United subsequently struck twice in the second half, with Wayne Rooney grabbing both goals, to pick up all three points and move back into third place.

"I want to win as a manager. I have to observe and analyse and I have to make steps necessary to win," explained the Dutchman after the game.

"I always thought in theory that I would change Angel for Januzaj and we were better in the second half so I cannot say it was a wrong decision.

"The difficulty, not only for Angel, is that players have to adapt to the Premier League. The rhythm of the game is so high – a lot higher than in other countries – so we need to give him to time to adapt and lift his confidence again.

"He is a human being and you can make mistakes but he shall overcome this period I hope."

Van Gaal also explained his decision to withdraw Radamel Falcao and replace him with Marouane Fellaini, despite the Colombian striker’s positive involvement in winning the penalty which opened the scoring.

"I was very pleased with his action for the penalty, but I have to win and I thought at that moment we needed to keep the ball more and with Fellaini it is easier to keep the ball."

Klopp revels in 'perfect' win over Schalke

    1002002_heroa.jpg

Jurgen Klopp has hailed Borussia Dortmund's display in Saturday's 3-0 win over Schalke as "perfect".

The home side were the better team throughout the game, creating several chances but failing to hit the net until Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang opened the scoring with 12 minutes remaining.

After that, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Marco Reus slotted home to complete a fourth consecutive victory for BVB, lifting them to ninth in the league.Klopp was elated with his side after the game, insisting that they never once doubted the goals would come.

"It was a perfect afternoon for us with a great game from my team from the first to the last minute," he told reporters. "We had plenty of chances in the first half. It was important that we did not get nervous. In the 78th minute, the node burst."

The victory brings Dortmund to within nine points of Borussia Monchengladbach, who occupy the third and final automatic Champions League spot.

Ancelotti: Madrid's next three games as important as El Clasico

    917302_heroa.jpg

Carlo Ancelotti says Real Madrid's next three Liga games are as important as their crunch Clasico clash with Barcelona on March 22.

Los Blancos currently lead the way in Spain with a four-point advantage over the second-placed Catalans, whom they must still face at Camp Nou in a match that could have a huge impact on where the title will end up.

However, before concentrating on that top-of-the-table fixture, Ancelotti says his side must remain focused on their forthcoming meetings with Villarreal, Athletic Bilbao and Levante.

"Before we play against Barcelona there are three games which are as important as El Clasico, because they are three points each. They have an equal weight," the Blancos boss said in a press conference."This job is very complicated because there is criticism for coaches who do not rotate, and those that do rotate. It's impossible.

"I have no plans to rotate in this period, as we have not played many games. The team is fresh and playing well. In every game we put out the best team possible."
Luka Modric recently returned to training after spending over three months on the sidelines with an injury picked up while on international duty with Croatia, but Ancelotti has revealed that the midfielder is not yet fit enough to make his comeback. However, the Italian was quick to praise the recent form of Isco, who has stepped up in his team-mate's absence and nailed down a regular berth in the starting 11.

"Modric is not going to be available. He's had a good week and is almost ready, but he still needs some work. We are hoping he will be able to return against Schalke [in the Champions League," he added."It's hard to say what position is best for Isco, because he has proven that he can play in them all. We have to use his talents for attack rather than for defense, but he has shown a very positive attitude. I think this is the key to his improvement.

"If Isco continues like this, his presence in the starting line-up going forward will be guaranteed."Los Blancos take on Villarreal on Sunday and Ancelotti added that his team will need to be on top form if they are to claim all three points.

"Villarreal are a team that have great quality. They are very well organised, play good football and did well against Barcelona. They are at a very high level. We need to be at our best against them."

Giroud: I'm embarrassed by misses against Monaco

    1006172_heroa.jpg

Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud admits that he is embarrassed by his performance against Monaco as the Gunners slumped to a 3-1 defeat at the Emirates Stadium.

The France international missed several clear chances before being hauled off by manager Arsene Wenger on the hour mark.

Arsenal now face an uphill battle to qualify for the knockout stages and Giroud concedes that the defeat was a painful one.

"I am not a better or worse player than three days ago; it is just about confidence and keeping [strong]," he told the Gunners' official website.

"I am really hurting, more than disappointed. It has been embarrassing for me but I have never given up in my career and sometimes I have had tough games like that before.

"It was difficult because nothing went right; everything was tough for me. I tried to keep focused but I understood why the boss wanted to substitute me. It was not my day."

Giroud had been in good form going into the game, having scored three goals in his previous two games, but vows to bounce back against Everton on Sunday.

"When you are a striker, people expect more from you," he added. "I did well recently and scored a lot of goals but, when you miss chances, it is like that - you have to question yourself.

"I will keep working hard and bounce back as soon as possible."
