Returning Alcacer sets sights on Champions League after Elche romp
Paco Alcacer says he is more determined than ever to help fire Valencia back into the Champions League after returning from injury.
The 21-year-old picked up a knee problem last month and was left out of Spain's squad for the international break next week as Vicente del Bosque felt he was short of full match fitness.
Alcacer was in fine form as he made his first start since returning to fitness in Valencia's 4-0 thrashing of Elche on Friday, however, scoring once and seeing two further strikes ruled out for offside as los Che moved to within five points of Barcelona at the top of the table.
The striker says he is fully focused on developing in 2015 as he looks to help third-place Valencia finish the season strongly and seal a return to Europe's top tournament.
"The goal is to get into the Champions League," he told the club's official website.
"My injury has helped me improve as a player, as I have returned more eager than ever after one month out."We are working well and converting our hard work into wins, which is of paramount importance."
Head coach Nuno Espirito Santo was delighted with his side's all-round display as they took another big step towards a top-four finish."In the first half, we came up against an opponent who we knew would be tricky and who were playing well," he said.
"We did a really good job with our pressing and the way we conditioned their game. We could have scored before the first goal.
"Throughout the game we were the better side and the result reflects a lot of time working, not only in this game. I think our natural growth is reflected in this result but hopefully Elche can stay up.
"It is a privilege to have 3,000 Valencianistas out on a Friday night to support us. We can get very excited about the next match against Villarreal."
