Mandzukic targets big Juventus goal haul

    mariomandzukic-cropped_tont0qtmh6r11lmwf0h693k1p.jpg

Mario Mandzukic says he wants to score "as many goals as possible" after completing his move to Juventus.

The Croatia striker sealed a €19million switch from Atletico Madrid on Monday after spending just a season in Spain following his move from Bayern Munich last summer.

The fee for the player will be paid in three instalments, with an initial payment of €7million in August to be followed by two subsequent €6m payments in 2016 and 2017.Mandzukic scored 20 goals in all competitions for Atletico and sees no reason why he will not be able to excel with Massimiliano Allegri's beaten Champions League finalists.

"I'm happy to be at a big club like Juventus," Mandzukic told the club's official website. "I hope and I believe that the coach knows me well and can get the best out of me.

"I'm ready to do everything necessary for my team-mates. I've played against Juventus and Italy several times. I know them all very well, they're a very tough team with great quality.

"That's why I'm even more delighted that I am part of this group now. I have nothing but the best to say about the team and the coach.

"I will try to slot in as quickly as possible, because as I've already said I know the players quite well. I've played against the team on several occasions, so I don't think it will be a big problem.

"This is my new team and I'll fight with everything I've got. I hope to score as many goals as possible."I know and I can see that it's a massive club with a huge fan base. So I'm very happy with this new challenge, I'm ready."

Mandzukic also thanked Atletico Madrid and said he would always have a soft spot for the club: "I want to thank all the team-mates with whom I've shared a changing room at Atletico, and also to the coaching staff and all the people who work for the club.

"Now that it is confirmed that I'm going, I'm receiving many affectionate messages from the fans. That means that I did my job well. It’s time to tackle another challenge in a new league but I will always support the club and wherever they are, I will be another Atlético."

Official: Stekelenburg joins Southampton on loan

    maarten-stekelenburg_1rbkgz16ewn8i1jxx5xhrmo0jj.jpg

Southampton have completed the signing of goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg on a season-long loan deal from Fulham.

The Netherlands international spent last season on loan at Monaco having been relegated from the Premier League in his first year with the Craven Cottage outfit, and is hopeful that he can find his best form on the south coast.

"I’m very pleased that I’ve joined," he told the club's official website.

"It’s a big, nice club that will play European football – and I can play. Last year I didn’t play a lot, so it’s an opportunity for me. I’m grateful.

"The last two years weren’t the best of my career. As they say in England: the best is yet to come."

The former Ajax man will provide cover for Fraser Forster as the England international recovers from a knee injury that is set to rule him out of action until early 2016.

He will compete with Kelvin Davis and Paulo Gazzaniga for a place in Ronald Koeman's starting XI as the St Mary's outfit look to improve on their seventh-placed finish in the 2014-15 campaign.

Stekelenburg becomes the Saints' third signing of the summer after the arrivals of Josemi and Cedric Soares.

    Reina set for Napoli medical

    pepereina-cropped_1lx02tuc1in0l1j4mh6cw3wxwf.jpg

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has confirmed Pepe Reina will have a medical on Tuesday as he edges closer to a return to the Serie A club.

Reina joined Bayern Munich last August but has only played three games for the German champions, after operating as back-up to first-choice goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.

The Spain international made 43 appearances for Napoli during a season-long loan spell at the club from on loan from Liverpool in 2013-14.

"Pepe has an appointment with us, we will see him tomorrow in Rome for the medical and then if all goes well he will sign the contract," De Laurentiis confirmed to Radio Kiss Kiss.Meanwhile, the Napoli owner has backed new coach Maurizio Sarri to build on the work done by Rafael Benitez last season.

De Laurentiis added: "Sarri is the right man for job. I can only say that when I met Sarri he showed me to be what I thought he was, a man deeply attached to their work and very experienced.

"In the past other big clubs have hired coaches with success in the lower leagues. Sarri has the advantage of having already played a season in Serie A [with Empoli] and his ideas on football intrigued me very much."

    Cech denies agreeing Arsenal move

    petr-cech-chelsea_e2i6o1907npk1ksevzh8l9a2z.jpg

Petr Cech's agent has denied the goalkeeper has agreed to leave Chelsea and join Arsenal.

Cech is widely expected to bring an end to his 11-year stay at Stamford Bridge and move to London rivals Arsenal, having seen his first-team opportunities limited due to the presence of Thibaut Courtois.

However, after reports indicated an announcement was imminent, Cech took the unusual step of sharing a message posted by his management company - The Sports PR Company - on Twitter.

The message retweeted by Cech read: "...as we told you, No transfer deal has been done yet for @PetrCech - as soon as [there is] any news @PetrCech will confirm."

Earlier on Monday, John Terry suggested Arsenal would benefit greatly should they manage to capture the vastly experienced Cech, a winner of four Premier League titles, four FA Cups and the 2012 Champions League during his time with Chelsea.

Chelsea captain Terry told talkSPORT: "There's talk of Arsenal signing Petr Cech and, if they do get him, he will strengthen them for sure. He will save them 12 or 15 points a season."

AC Milan can't afford Cavani, says agent

    edinsoncavani-cropped_1rko8dnp1vejy1hjjb49a7jbcl.jpg

Edinson Cavani's agent has dismissed speculation linking his client with a switch from Paris Saint-Germain to AC Milan, stating the Serie A side lack the financial strength to afford his client.

Cavani, who scored 31 goals in 52 matches in all competitions last season, helped Paris Saint-Germain to a third consecutive Ligue 1 title and a domestic treble last term, but that has not stopped persistent rumours of an exit.

A return to Italy, where he made his name for Palermo and Napoli prior to joining PSG in a big-money deal in 2013, has been touted as questions continue to be asked about the 28-year-old's satisfaction playing second fiddle to Zlatan Ibrahimovic at Parc des Princes. The rebuilding Rossoneri, now backed by Thai investor Bee Taechaubol, have been suggested as possible suitors, though those rumours have sinced been quashed by Cavani's representative.

"I can't see any clubs in Italy who could pay the necessary figures for a player of the calibre of Cavani," Claudio Anellucci told Calciomercato. "Besides, Edinson was very clear about his future, he's happy in Paris and intends to stay at PSG. There's nothing more to add."

Milan are searching for reinforcements to improve on last season's 10th place finish in Serie A, with the club looking to add a big name in attack for new coach Sinisa Mihajlovic.

Brazil still extremely dangerous without Neymar - Da Silva

    paulo-da-silva-cropped_578pue759dzn1b7vtf7sppbi1.jpg

Paraguay defender Paulo da Silva says his team will need to put in the performance of their lives against their Copa America quarter-final opponents Brazil, insisting they are still "extremely dangerous" without their suspended captain Neymar.

The Paraguayans will go up against the South American powerhouses in Concepcion on Saturday, with Selecao coach Dunga losing his captain to a four-game suspension following their 1-0 loss to Colombia last Thursday.

But veteran Da Silva, who was part of the Paraguay team that eliminated Brazil on penalties at the same stage of the 2011 competition, still maintained that their rivals remain deadly adversaries.

"Neymar is a hugely important player for Brazil," Da Silva told a press conference in La Serena on Monday. "He showed at Barcelona last season what a great player he is, winning the treble.

"But Brazil remain extremely dangerous even without Neymar. They have had phases where they haven't played so well, but in short tournaments it's results that count. They are very good at dead balls and very dangerous.

"They are here on merit and they will punish any mistakes. We will try to advance to a semi-final, which would be a dream for us and something very special. But we will need to play an almost perfect game to get to the last four."

Da Silva nevertheless stated the current squad is better than that which reached the final four years ago, and is looking forward to giving one of the favourites a run for their money at the weekend after eliminating them at the same stage last time.

"I think we are a better team now than we were then," the centre-back added. "We came back from 2-0 down against Argentina and played well in phases against Jamaica and Uruguay. We have had more possession as well in recent games."I think we have evolved since 2011. It will be an even game and we want to give some joy to our people. It's do or die against Brazil."

Paraguay full-back Ivan Piris meanwhile stated Neymar deserved to be punished after his fracas versus Colombia, and felt his absence upped Paraguay's chances of causing another upset."Neymar is a great player and being without him is pretty damaging to Brazil," the Udinese man said.

And when asked about the forward's four-match ban, he added: "I don't want to talk too much about that because the problem belongs to them. But I think it's fair."

Neymar: I didn't do anything to the referee

    neymar-brazil-copa-america_19qvzgg9gb2mk19fkplwf82sw3.jpg

Brazil captain Neymar insists he did not do anything to the referee to deserve a four-game ban after his side's 1-0 Copa America loss to Colombia.

The 23-year-old left the country on Monday after his tournament was ended with a suspension from Conmebol for attempting to headbutt Jeison Murillo and allegedly insulting referee Enrique Osses after the final whistle.

But Neymar has continued to protest his innocence over the incident in Santiago, even as he revealed the choice for him to leave the Brazil camp had been a joint one.

"It was a family decision to leave," the Barcelona forward told Jornal Nacional. "I talked to my father, and then I told Dunga and team manager Gilmar Rinaldi. They agreed.

"Nothing happened in the tunnel, basically. I was inside it, and waiting to ask the ref why he dismissed me. Then a huddle took place and security guards came in, thinking I was nervous, that I wanted to attack him."That's how it came to this."

Nevertheless, Neymar remains confident his compatriots have the quality and experience needed to lift the Copa America after seeing them progress to the quarter-finals top of Group C, reiterating his comments from a lengthy post on Instagram. "I think there's a lot of life in Selecao without Neymar. The players have shown that they can win games and win Copa America," he continued.

"Brazil has plenty of great players. I'm absolutely confident of this team and the players that are there representing it. They are all big names who'll take care of business."

Brazil will face Paraguay, the team that knocked them out on penalties at the same stage in 2011, this Saturday.

Wenger has helped me develop massively - Chambers

    calumn-chambers-arsenal_xjnazgf01wyf1dvkyz5sc0sbh.jpg

Calum Chambers has thanked manager Arsene Wenger for helping him develop into an England international during his first season at Arsenal.

The versatile defender arrived at the Emirates Stadium last July and impressed as he helped Arsenal claim third place in the Premier League.

His displays under Wenger caught the eye of England manager Roy Hodgson, and the then-teenager was rewarded with his international debut against Norway in September.

"In a short space of time I think I have grown massively," Chambers told the club's official website. "I have exceeded my expectations of what I thought I would achieve.

"Wenger has been fantastic to me, really supportive and he has given me an opportunity to play.

"I am very grateful for what he has done. Everyone has expectations on things but for me he has exceeded all expectations of what I had.

"I can't thank him enough. I think he is very thoughtful in everything he does and you know he gives everyone a chance and gets the best out of all the players, which is a very good quality as well.

"I am really proud of myself and equally I want to go further and become the best player I can at Arsenal. I won’t stop working until I get there."

Chambers, 20, is on international duty with England's Under-21 team at the European Championships in Czech Republic.

This is not about Messi v James, says Rodriguez

    james-rodriguez-seleccion-colombia_u732thhezjlj1m4lvj60mnefy.jpg

Colombia star James Rodriguez feels it would be unfair to bill his side's Copa America quarter-final tie against Argentina as a clash between him and opposing number Lionel Messi.

Jose Pekerman's side have endured a slow start to the tournament in Chile despite their wealth of talent, only scraping into the last eight on the final day of the group stages with a 0-0 draw against Peru.

However, the last-eight match up between Los Cafeteros is seen as an enticing fixture as the Barcelona and Real Madrid attackers go head-to-head, though James feels the two players should not take centre stage.

"Messi is from another planet," he told reporters. "He’s a unique player, but Colombia are able to play against difficult sides with great players. You can’t just talk about a James v Messi battle because it wouldn't be fair. "If I want to be involved and there’s no space, we’ve got other players who can break through. If I can’t [find openings], the others will."

The 23-year-old admitted his side have not been at their best so far in the tournament, but believes that the tournament hosts are the only team impressing at the moment.

"This Copa America is proving very tough, nobody has been good," he said. "Only Chile, who won 5-0 against Bolivia, have been but nobody else has been outstanding.

"It’s been very equal. We’re quite clear about how good the Argentina players are, we'll both be up for it, because Colombia play well and we’ll try to do that. It’ll be a good game."

    Alexis Sanchez practices his lip-synching

    1551782_heroa.jpg

Alexis Sanchez may be trying to guide Chile to Copa America glory on home soil, but he has also found time to show off another of his skills: lip-synching!

The Arsenal star has shown off his piano playing skills in the past, by playing along to John Legend’s hit ‘All of Me’, and has now shown that he is equally adept at dancing and crooning.

Alexis shared his talent on Tuesday as he posted a video on Instagram, with the caption “moments of joy at home”.

Alexis will certainly be hoping to enjoy a few moments of joy on the pitch next season too, after helping Arsenal to their second consecutive FA Cup triumph in 2014-15.

Lingard ready to fight for Man United place

    jesselingard-cropped_11taxm674xj631gnbnna0l97k7.jpg

Jesse Lingard insists he is ready to fight for his place at Manchester United next season, despite rumours of another loan spell away from Old Trafford.

Newcastle United have been linked with a swoop for the England Under-21 international, after Lingard impressed Steve McClaren during his short stay at Derby County in 2014-15.

But Lingard, who picked up an injury in United's opening fixture of last season, insists that he intends to remain at Old Trafford in the hope of impressing Louis van Gaal.

"I'm looking to stay at Man United and get some games under my belt there. I'll see what the boss says when I get back," he told reporters.

"I've always wanted to play for Man United and that's still my ambition. I was unlucky to get injured at the start of last season, and I'll never know where I would be now if I hadn't got that injury.

"I kept in contact with Louis Van Gaal last season and spoke to England Under-21 boss Gareth Southgate a lot. He was guiding me and giving me confidence."

Lingard scored as England Under-21s defeated Sweden on Sunday and Lingard hopes that such goals serve to raise his profile at club level.

"Scoring goals like that can only help," he added. "It gets your profile up, and other teams see you as well as Man United. It can only be good for me."

Ings: I want to earn iconic Liverpool number

    dannyings-cropped_1h70lwrr3n2tm1iu9a8jr5vs8c.jpg

Danny Ings has opted against taking one of Liverpool's iconic shirt numbers and insists that he wants to earn the right to follow in the footsteps of the club's legends.

The striker will complete his move to Anfield upon the expiration of his Burnley contract, having agreed to join Brendan Rodgers' side earlier this month.

Ings could have chosen to wear the No.7 shirt, worn by the likes of Kenny Dalglish and Kevin Keegan, with it having been left vacant by Luis Suarez, while Steven Gerrard's departure to LA Galaxy has also left the famous No.8 available.

The England Under-21 international, though, has chosen No.28 instead and maintains that he wants to prove himself before taking on any extra pressure.

"You have got to take that pressure off yourself as a young lad coming through. That is what I personally think," Ings told reporters.

"I would make sure I am established before taking any of those numbers. It is such a huge club. That was the thinking behind it.

"I wouldn't want to go to Liverpool and chuck a shirt on my back like that - it is pressure you don't need. The expectation at clubs like that is huge.

"Obviously I am going to work my socks off to earn that number one day. For now I will take a high number and work hard."

Zidane: I would have said yes to Real Madrid top job

    carlo-ancelotti-zinedine-zidane_fubropfwjloc1551lnnxfgftf.jpg

Zinedine Zidane has revealed he would have said yes if Real Madrid had asked him to succeed Carlo Ancelotti as head coach.

The Santiago Bernabeu legend was Ancelotti's assistant in 2013-14, a season which saw the club win the Champions League and the Copa del Rey, but he chose to take charge of their Castilla side in the campaign which just finished.

When Ancelotti was sacked following the climax of 2014-15, there were suggestions Zidane could be the Italian's successor but the club ultimately chose experienced ex-Napoli and Valencia boss Rafa Benitez.

But Zidane claims there was no chance he would have turned down the opportunity to take charge of Cristiano Ronaldo and his Blancos team-mates, though he insists he harbours no resentment towards Benitez and Madrid.

"Yes, I would have accepted the task of being Ancelotti's successor," he told France Football on his 43rd birthday. "I am a professional and never refuse a challenge."But no, I am not disappointed I was overlooked in favour of Benitez. It was felt by the board that now was not the time for me to take over. These things happen naturally, one should not force them.

"It was not meant to be on this occasion. Madrid president Florentino Perez chose another coach, and that's that."Zidane also opened up about his first full 12 months as head coach during which he attained a deeper understanding of how solitary life at the top can be at times.

"For the first time I was the person who was making the big decisions," the World Cup-winning former France midfielder added. "Being a coach means being alone. One is judged on results and what one gives his players."

Man Utd couldn't sign a better centre-back than Sergio Ramos - Carragher

    1557702_heroa.jpg

Jamie Carragher does not think Manchester United could sign a better defender than Sergio Ramos in the upcoming transfer window.

Reports emerged on Sunday that Louis van Gaal is hoping to include the Real Madrid vice-captain in a swap deal for goalkeeper David de Gea, with the centre-back later saying he was not worried by the speculation surrounding hit future.

A new defender is a priority for the United coach this summer and the Red Devils had previously been linked with Valencia's Nicolas Otamendi and Borussia Dortmund's Mats Hummels.

And now it is Ramos - who counts the World Cup, European Championship, Champions League and La Liga among his trophy haul - who has emerged as the latest centre-back target, and Carragher believes negativity towards the centre-back is largely unfounded.

"I get a bit wound up by the criticism Ramos gets," Carragher told talkSPORT. "He's won everything, he plays for one of the best clubs in the world and one of the best international sides we've ever seen.

"He is rash at times, he has moments of madness and does get overly emotional in games, that's always been a problem for him, but let's not forget that it's a problem for Wayne Rooney as well."

    1566612.jpg

Ramos has a €180 million buyout clause in a contract which expires in July 2017, but United are reportedly hopeful of taking advantage of extension talks which have stalled.

Carragher continued: "I'm not bothered about whether United sign him or not, or whether he'd be a good signing or not, but if he is not rated as one of the world's best players, who is?

"If his trophy record doesn't give him a bit of credit, what chance have I, or any of the centre-backs in the Premier League?

"I think it's disrespectful – he's won nearly 130 caps for Spain! He's not playing for Mickey Mouse teams. I've heard callers say he hasn't reacted well under pressure and makes mistakes - what defender doesn't make mistakes?

"If a team like Real Madrid could find a better defender, they would, but they don't. Ramos plays every week, they win everything and people still chip away at him and criticise him.

"Top-class centre-backs are a dying breed now, there's very few now compared to years ago. If United don't get Ramos, or don't want to sign him, who else would they get?"

Brazil legend Rivaldo announces comeback plan aged 43

    rivaldo-cropped_1rse0eoj84bdu128l7fids4wxm.jpg

Brazil legend Rivaldo has announced his intention to return to professional football to aid the struggling club he owns, at the age of 43.

Rivaldo, a World Cup winner with Brazil in 2002, retired in March 2015 after a glittering career in which he represented the likes of Barcelona, Milan and Olympiacos.

However, Rivaldo has started training with Mogi Mirim - where he is also president - with a view to playing for the first team, who are bottom of the Brazilian Serie B with just three points from eight matches.

While Rivaldo could return to action, he admitted how much he actually plays in competitive gametime is dependent on whether his knee is able to stand up to the rigour of the sport."After much thought and analysing the pros and cons, I have decided to join the team of Mogi Mirim," he said in a statement on the club's official website.

"I believe that training daily with the team, and with my experience, we will get through this complicated moment we are living."I know that once again I will sacrifice my family for the sake of the club, but I hope soon to see our team in a more honourable position in the competition.

"I want my decision to help the players out of this bad phase, because I believe that our team should not be fighting against relegation. We as a team should at least be vying for the middle of the table.

"I repeat that I am not coming back to play regularly, but as I am an athlete with a current contract, I want to help the players come out of this complicated situation.
"I stopped playing professionally 15 months ago, and if my knee is fine, I can even help in some games, but the training will help me decide."
Rivaldo earned 74 caps for Brazil, scoring 34 goals.

Official: Pepe Reina quits Bayern for Napoli

    pepereina-cropped_1lx02tuc1in0l1j4mh6cw3wxwf.jpg

Bayern Munich have confirmed that goalkeeper Pepe Reina has been released from his contract, allowing him to sign for Napoli on a free transfer.

The Spaniard joined the Bavarians last summer on a three-year deal having seen out his contract at Liverpool, but was restricted to just three appearances in all competitions in 2014-15.

As a result, the goalkeeper had been strongly linked with Napoli - with whom he had spent a year on loan prior to linking up with Pep Guardiola's Bundesliga champions - and Bayern confirmed the deal for him to join the Serie A side was a reality.

"Pepe Reina has asked us to release him from his contract because he wants to sign for Napoli where he will have the chance to play as a goalkeeper on a regular basis," Bayern deputy chairman Jan-Christian Dreesen told the club's website on Tuesday.

"Reina has fitted into our team in sporting - and above all human - terms so we more than happy to comply with his request. We wish Pepe and his family all the best for the future."

Minutes later, Napoli echoed that an agreement had been secured with Reina and welcomed the 32-year-old to the club after he completed the medical which club president Aurelio De Laurentiis had revealed was going ahead.

"Pepe Reina is a Napoli player," the club's website stated. "The goalkeeper had his medical on Tuesday morning accompanied by team doctor Dr. De Nicola and then signed with President De Laurentiis."
