Man City wait on De Bruyne contract talks before making big offer

    kevindebruyne-cropped_vx8l9eogm3521djttvkjj2fme.jpg

Manchester City are waiting on the outcome of Kevin De Bruyne's contract talks with Wolfsburg before making a big offer for the attacking midfielder, Goal understands.

Wolfsburg are determined to keep hold of their prized asset, with sporting director Klaus Allofs stating on Monday that De Bruyne will remain with the German club and that they are prepared to open talks over an improved contract.

But the Belgium international has made his demands known and City are expecting developments in the next 48 hours one way or the other.

Should the Bundesliga side be unwilling to match their playmaker's expectations, City will look to take advantage and test their resolve with a formal offer.

City are reluctant to pay more than €49 million for the Belgian but are able to offer wages in the region of €210,000-per-week to tempt the 24-year-old former Chelsea man to make a return to England.

Goal understands that Wolfsburg will stick to their guns and only consider a massive offer from interested parties, although De Bruyne has previously confirmed that there have been "informal contacts" between City and his agent.

Manuel Pellegrini's side have identified De Bruyne, who was one of the stars of the Bundesliga during the 2014-15 campaign, as a top summer target but will face a battle to sign the former Chelsea star, with Paris Saint-Germain thought to be keen admirers.

The French club were bouyed on Wednesday by a relaxation of Uefa's Financial Fair Play regulations following a significant improvement in their financial performance over the past 12 months.

Like City, PSG's attempts to sign Angel Di Maria from Real Madrid, among others, were thwarted by Uefa penalties last summer but they could now be free to spend some of Qatar Sports Investment's vast cash reserves.

Elsewhere, Raheem Sterling remains a priority for Pellegrini's side despite City having failed to agree a fee with Liverpool, while Fulham teenager Patrick Roberts and 18-year-old Bursaspor talent Enes Unal are also on the club's radar.

Monaco right-back Fabinho could also arrive in the summer, although Goal understands the Brazil international's €25 million valuation could prove a stumbling block.

:(Javier Hernandez to miss Gold Cup with fractured collarbone

    javierhernandez-cropped_7ajkqt1voafz1et24bwin2p1w.jpg

Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez will miss Mexico's Gold Cup campaign with a fractured collarbone after being taken to hospital on Wednesday.

Hernandez picked up the injury when he clashed with Brayan Beckeles in Mexico's final warm-up match against Honduras and was replaced in the 41st minute by Oribe Peralta.

In the closing stage of the first half in Houston, Hernandez ran to collect the ball near the sideline but was pushed over from behind by Beckeles and fell on his right shoulder.

The Mexican striker immediately clutched his shoulder before beckoning to the bench, and was later shown getting into an ambulance after half-time."The fracture of the right collarbone has been confirmed," team doctor Gerardo Aguilar said.

"He is being evaluated again in hospital to confirm what we found in a radiological study. He’ll be out for three to four weeks minimum."

Coach Miguel Herrera said he was disappointed to see his striker get injured and admits it will affect his side ahead of the Gold Cup.

"It will have an impact on the group but we're just thinking about what is ahead," he said. "This is an unfortunate situation we cannot change."

Hernandez has scored 40 goals in 74 appearances for Mexico, making him the second most-prolific goal-scorer in his country's history behind Jared Borgetti (46).

    Real Madrid sign Lucas Vazquez

    lucas-vazquez-espanyol_c828u34e3429100ro4ru9borl.jpg

Real Madrid have announced on their official website that they have completed the re-signing of Lucas Vazquez from Espanyol. The winger came through the Madrid youth system, but failed to break into the first team under Carlo Ancelotti, before moving on to Espanyol last season.

Espanyol were hoping to activate their option to purchase the 24-year-old's contract outright from Madrid, although Madrid held an option to buy him back either this summer or next year.

Espanyol president Joan Collet stated earlier this week that the two sides had agreed a fee, believed to be around €1 million, that would see the Spaniard return to the capital, but the Catalan side are reportedly holding on to 25 per cent of his rights.

Madrid have now confirmed that the player has returned to the club and signed a five-year deal, becoming new head coach Rafael Benitez's first piece of business.
"Real Madrid have recovered the rights of Lucas Vazquez within the existing agreement with Espanyol," a statement reads.

"The player is tied to the club for the next five seasons."During his solitary season at Espanyol, Vazquez scored three and set up a further six goals in 33 La Liga appearances.

Roma offer Cabaye escape route from Paris Saint-Germain

    yohan-cabaye-ligue-1-psg_1mee8pwu5fk8d1mhfa2zl1z0b8.jpg

Roma coach Rudi Garcia has contacted Paris Saint-Germain playmaker Yohan Cabaye over a move to Stadio Olimpico next season, Goal understands.

The 29-year-old only moved to last season's domestic treble-winners in January 2014 but is considering his future after failing to hold down a first-team place at Parc des Princes.

Cabaye is seeking an exit as he searches for more game time to boost his chances of making the France squad for Euro 2016, with his former Lille boss Garcia promising that at Roma. The midfielder has been heavily linked to a move to Crystal Palace, but Garcia has made him a target as he looks to boost the Giallorossi midfield given the injury woes of Kevin Strootman, who underwent knee surgery for the second time at the club in January.

Nevertheless, Cabaye's salary demands could scupper any deal, with the Serie A runners-up unwilling to match his net wages of €5.5 million per year.

The player's ex-coach at Newcastle, Alan Pardew, could offer an escape from PSG in that case, with Palace able to satisfy his demands thanks to the Premier League's new television deal.

Guardiola: Schweinsteiger is the only one who can decide his future

    bastianschweinsteiger-cropped_10lu3d2obsxs51ug22dlhlx4uh.jpg

Pep Guardiola says only Bastian Schweinsteiger can decide whether or not he remains at Bayern Munich this summer, and insists his side have no interest in signing Angel Di Maria from Manchester United.

The midfielder has enjoyed an incredible 13 years in Munich since making his debut for the Bavarian side, winning eight Bundesliga titles, seven DFB-Pokals and the Champions league in 2013.

However, the World Cup-winning midfielder has been rumoured to be in line for a reunion with former Bayern boss Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford after making just 15 league starts last season.

Guardiola insists he wants to see the World Cup-winning midfielder remain at the club, but says the decision is down to the player himself.

"I told him 'the future depends on you'. Basti has managed a great career. He must decide what he does alone," Guardiola told reporters.

"Of course I am planning to work with Basti next season. Basti has to decide.
"If Schweinsteiger wants to stay here then that's perfect. He's a top player."Sporting director Matthias Sammer, meanwhile, had earlier admitted the player could ultimately decide to leave this summer.

"Basically, nothing is excluded," Sammer told reporters when asked about Schweinsteiger at a press conference to announce the signing of Douglas Costa.

"It's a crazy world. He has clearly expressed that he is an important part of the team, but let's see. We're still waiting.

"Basti is a very important player to Bayern Munich but there are a few things to consider. We have noticed the speculation going around in public but we'll just have to wait. You can't rule anything out in the transfer window.

"Basti himself has spoken clearly. He's a very important part of the team. That's all I can tell you at the moment."

Former Barcelona coach Guardiola also touched on Di Maria, who has been linked with a move to the Allianz Arena this summer, having struggled to settle to life in Manchester following a €75 million move from Real Madrid last summer.

Guardiola admits that he is a keen admirer of the Argentine, but insists his side will not look to sign him.

"I don't have to watch Argentina games, because I know him and his style of playing very well," Guardiola said.

"United did not pay so much money for nothing, he is a great player. Although such transfer fees are sometimes really crazy."
When asked if he was interested in signing Di Maria, the Spaniard replied: "No."

The coach then welcomed the arrival of Shakhtar Donetsk forward Douglas Costa, who signed a five-year deal at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday.

"I hope he can fit into the team quickly. We will help him of course," he added. "I'm grateful to the club for the signing."

Guardiola: I need Robben, Ribery & Martinez fit more than new players

    pep-guardiola-fc-bayern-bundesliga-23052015_fdpbb44l8bdj1u06xza1xpjp6.jpg

Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola says getting his players fit again for the coming season is more important than any new signings the club will make this summer.

The Bavarians won their third Bundesliga crown in a row last term but crashed out in the last four of the Champions League and the final of the DFB-Pokal following an injury crisis that ruled out the likes of Mehdi Benatia, Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben.

And with Guardiola's men looking to restart after their underwhelming finish to the last campaign, the coach insisted on the importance of having a full squad to choose from over new signings as the club seek to mount a successful challenge on all fronts.

"My dream is not to have a single player. My dream is to have a fully fit squad, to have a fit Ribery, Robben and Javi Martinez so I can play my desired formation," he told reporters at a press conference.

"We're eager to get going, but first we need to stay calm and train. We have many new rivals. Borussia Dortmund have a new coach, Borussia Monchengladbach are better, Bayer Leverkusen have Roger Schmidt, then there's Wolfsburg and Schalke as well."

Speculation has been rife on the transfer front but Guardiola reiterated his confidence in the players currently at his disposal, praising new arrivals Douglas Costa and Joshua Kimmich as the players Bayern needed to stay ahead of the Bundesliga chasing pack.

"Matthias Sammer or Karl-Heinz Rummenigge are the right people to talk to about transfers," the trainer continued. "Joshua Kimmich is a young player. I didn't know him, but I saw him play for Red Bull Leipzig in Munich. I think he has the quality.

"I hope Douglas Costa can fit into the team quickly. We will help him, of course. I'm grateful to the club for the signing. He has great quality. We need a player for one-on-one situations. He's a very young player and a fighter."

The German champions will begin the defence of their league crown when the new season begins on August 15, hosting Hamburg at Allianz Arena.

Chelsea want Stuttgart's Rudiger, claims agent

    1592912_heroa.jpg

Chelsea are interested in a move for Stuttgart centre-back Antonio Rudiger, according to his agent.

Reports in Germany are claiming that the 22-year-old has agreed terms with Wolfsburg, although the two clubs have not agreed a fee with Stuttgart holding out for €18 million.

But Rudiger’s representative and half-brother Sahr Senesie claims the Premier League champions are also in the running but admits the defender is keen to remain in the Bundesliga.

"I know there’s interest from Chelsea and Wolfsburg," Senesie told Kicker.

"Antonio would love to stay in Germany.”

The young defender featured in 21 games in all competitions for Stuttgart last season.

Official: AC Milan seal deal for Bacca

    1602812_heroa.jpg

AC Milan have confirmed the signing of Colombia international Carlos Bacca from Sevilla.

The striker, also a target for Roma following his exceptional displays in 2014-15, will move to San Siro pending the successful completion of a medical.

Both Milan and Europa League holders Sevilla confirmed the transfer on Thursday, with the Liga club wishing Bacca "all the luck in the world" for his new venture.

Bacca is due to undergo medical tests over the coming days in Italy.

The former Club Brugge forward scored 49 goals and notched 22 assists in 108 appearances for Sevilla as the Andalusian side secured back-to-back Europa League titles.

Milan are expected to have paid the full €30 million release clause in Bacca's contract to secure his signature, though neither club have confirmed the fee.

Leonardo: Ibrahimovic must play where he feels good

    zlatan-ibrahimovic-paris-saint-germain_18u6zb118zh311a0phvjft1ayz.jpg

Former AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain director Leonardo believes striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic must make a decision on his future based on where he feels happiest.

Ibrahimovic spent two years with Milan before heading to France, where he has won three consecutive Ligue 1 titles, but is now tipped for a return to San Siro as part of the Rossoneri's rebuilding project.

And Leonardo, who was responsible for bringing the 33-year-old to Parc des Princes in 2012, believes he must let his heart rule his head in choosing where to ply his trade next season in order to make the best impact.

"At this point in his career Ibra has to do something he wants and go where he feels good," the Brazilian told La Gazzetta dello Sport. "I think it matters more about how he feels, even if Ibrahimovic has always been a very rational person.

"He relies on a well-tuned sense of self-criticism, and it is only when he feels he is not able to perform to the levels that he always has that he will stop [playing]."
Regardless of where he chooses to play next, Leonardo insisted the Swede will remain a formidable presence on the field in the eyes of team-mates and opponents alike."I would always want someone like Ibrahimovic in my team," he continued.

"He improves the side from both a technical as well as psychological standpoint. All his team-mates feel more confident with him beside them."It is no accident that he has won so many titles, and is proof of his very high levels wherever he plays."

Ribery vows to return from injury nightmare

    franck-ribery-fc-bayern-munchen-11032015_1qngy8ic6ovkk1835fm3fzt1xq.jpg

Bayern Munich star Franck Ribery has vowed that his ankle injury nightmare will not prevent him from returning to football for too long.

The former France international, who missed last summer's World Cup due to a back complaint, has been sidelined since March with an ankle problem picked up against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League.

Ribery has been forced to wear a protective cast over his foot as a result of numerous setbacks to his recovery plans and question marks have been raised in some quarters over whether he can return to full fitness and form.

Bayern have also splashed out €30 million on Douglas Costa, prompting sporting director Matthias Sammer to insist that Ribery was not being replaced by the Brazilian. But Ribery himself has made it clear he does not believe his top-level career could be coming towards an end.

"I don't know if the plaster cast will be removed if I still have pain. We will see," the 32-year-old told Kicker."It doesn't matter if I am 20 or 35 years old now, this injury has nothing to do with age. I will come back, that's for sure."

Ribery managed just 15 appearances in the Bundesliga last season.

James has proven he is not overrated - Danilo

    james-rodriguez-real-madrid-almeria-liga-bbva-04292015_2z2tdjv13xv91xi05saxirg11.jpg

James Rodriguez has proven to his doubters that he is not overrated, according to new Real Madrid defender Danilo.

The Colombia star joined the Liga giants in a mega-money move after the 2014 World Cup, in which he finished as top-scorer, and enjoyed an impressive debut campaign despite being used in a more withdrawn midfield role under Carlo Ancelotti.

And Danilo, who played alongside James at Porto prior to the 23-year-old's transfer to Monaco, believes he has dispelled any doubts over whether he is worthy of his place at Santiago Bernabeu."I played alongside him at Porto for two years and I knew back then that he was a great player," Danilo, who has finalised his own move to Madrid, told Marca.

"Some people thought he was overrated and he has proven that he is not. He is one of Real Madrid's best signings of recent years."

Danilo revealed he is relishing the prospect of playing under head coach Rafael Benitez, who replaced the sacked Ancelotti earlier this summer, despite his reputation for demanding hard graft from his players."I like rigour and focus. They make you grow and develop," said the Brazilian.

"I'm not at all afraid or anxious [about Benitez's reputation]; on the contrary, it makes me breathe easy because I know I will be pushed to my limits."

Finally, the full-back went on to praise new team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo, labelling the Portuguese star as the world's finest footballer at present.

Danilo said: "Ronaldo is the best player in the world right now. He has the Fifa award [the Ballon d'Or] to show as much."If I had to vote, I would vote for him."

Wenger tried to convince Podolski to stay at Arsenal - agent

Arsene Wenger wanted to keep Lukas Podolski at Arsenal but the forward is set to join Galatasaray, according to his agent.

The Germany international revealed on Wednesday that he is keen to complete a move to the Turkish giants, having spent the majority of last season on loan at Inter Milan and is expected to sign a four-year deal.

His representative, Nassim Touihri, says that Wenger attempted to convince Podolski to remain at the Emirates Stadium, but has confirmed a move is now imminent.

“We had very good talks with Wenger,” he told Bild. “He wanted to keep Lukas, but couldn’t give him a guarantee that he will be starter. That’s why we agreed on a transfer.”

Podolski has made 82 appearances for Arsenal since joining the club from FC Koln, scoring 31 goals.

    Javier Hernandez has successful surgery

Mexico and Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez has undergone successful surgery on a fractured collarbone that has ruled him out of the Concacaf Gold Cup.

Hernandez, who spent last season on loan at Real Madrid, suffered the setback during Wednesday's 0-0 friendly draw with Honduras in Houston.

In the closing stage of the first half, Hernandez ran to collect the ball near the sideline but was pushed over from behind by Brayan Beckeles and fell on his right shoulder.

Mexico's chief doctor Gerardo Aguilar later confirmed that the 27-year-old would be unavailable for the Gold Cup, which begins on July 7, and an update on his progress was issued on Thursday.

The Mexican Football Federation posted on Twitter: "Javier Hernandez's surgery was successfully concluded. The player is postoperative recovery."

The injury is particularly untimely for Hernandez as his future at Old Trafford remains shrouded in doubt.

Goal understands the 27-year-old will seek talks to clarify his United future once he returns to pre-season training and wants a final decision made before Louis van Gaal's men embark on their tour of the USA.

De Gea arrives in Madrid... 'to rest'

    1438202_heroa.jpg

Real Madrid target David De Gea flew into the city on Thursday but insisted he was only there "to have some rest".

Goal understands Manchester United are resigned to losing the goalkeeper and are now concentrating on negoitating the best deal possible for themselves before looking for a replacement.

United expect De Gea to attend the club's first pre-season training session on Monday, with discussions over his exit with Madrid not expected to be rushed.

However, the 24-year-old has touched down in Madrid, only to insist to journalists he was there for a holiday as a fan is overheard saying "we are waiting for you in Madrid".

"I am fine," he told reporters at Madrid Barajas International Airport. "I have just come home to have some rest."

The Spain international told United in early June that he would not sign the new €312,000-a-week contract offered by the club and informed them of his desire to move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

De Gea has been the subject of a €28 million bid but United are hoping to hold out for closer to €45m despite the player having less than 12 months to run on his current contract.
