Xhaka: I've no interest in Bayern Munich move

    bastian-schweinsteiger-granit-xhaka-bayern-gladbach-bundesliga-22032015_1cmqk61u9blw51v423hsuw51rn.jpg

Borussia Monchengladbach ace Granit Xhaka insists that he has no interest in joining Bayern Munich.

The Bavarians have been linked with a move for the Switzerland international, who played a key role in his current employers qualifying for the 2015-16 Champions League courtesy of a third-place finish in last season's Bundesliga.

However, Gladbach's sporting director stated on Tuesday that the club have no intention of selling Xhaka and now the 22-year-old midfielder has publicly promised to stay at Borussia Park."I'm not wasting a thought on Bayern," the former Basel starlet told Bild. "I didn't extend my deal with Gladbach until 2019 for no reason.

"We have worked so hard at Gladbach for a year and soon we will experience the goosebumps of playing games in the Champions League."We want to have that over and over again. Everything else is not an issue."

After selling Bastian Schweinsteiger to Manchester United, Bayern are set to strengthen their midfield on Thursday after agreeing a €40 million fee with Juventus for Chile international Arturo Vidal.

Bartomeu: Barcelona could let Arda Turan leave on loan

    arda-turan-barcelona-pre-season-training_11o3mr7p20d3o1k5jy8idhvbpf.jpg

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has admitted that new signing Arda Turan could be sent out on loan until January 2016.

The Blaugrana have been blocked from registering players until next year after being found guilty by Fifa of irregularities in the movement of under-age players.

However, the European champions have nonetheless signed two new players this summer - Aleix Vidal from Sevilla and Arda from Atletico Madrid.

The latter's arrival at a cost of €34 million - which could rise to €41m - had been the subject of much debate as Barca had the option to send the player back to the Vicente Calderon pending the outcome of this week's presidential election.

However, while all four candidates have now agreed to retain the services of the Turkey international, Bartomeu says that he is open to sending Arda out on loan for the first half of the 2015-16 campaign.

"This is a possibility," the Blaugrana supremo, who is bidding for a first full term after taking to reins from Sandro Rosell in January 2014, told RAC1. "But the final decision must be made by coach Luis Enrique and it must be a purely technical decision."

When pressed on where Barca would allow Arda to spend the first six months of next season, Bartomeu added: "It must be a team not playing in the Champions League.”Bartomeu also a revealed that while Arda could leave on loan, Vidal wants to stay at Camp Nou.

"He has already decided to train with the squad," the Catalan added.

'I haven't robbed anyone' - Gyan attacks Shanghai move sceptics

    asamoah-gyan-cote-divoire-ghana-africa-cup-of-nations-final-08022015_1hpwnuxiellsw1mdyjrhj5jjpj.jpg

Asamoah Gyan is baffled by criticism of the lucrative deal he has signed with Shanghai SIPG, pointing out that he hasn't robbed anyone of their money.

The Ghana captain last week signed a two-year contract with the Chinese Super League outfit that will reportedly earn him €325,000 per week, making him one of the top 10 best-paid players on the planet.

Gyan has been attacked in some quarters for accepting another big-money deal - after leaving Sunderland for UAE outfit Al-Ain 2012 - but he says that he is merely doing right by his loved ones.

"I don't understand the criticism," the 29-year-old striker told BBC Sport. "I work hard for what I earn. I am focused on my job.

"It is not as if I am doing anything illegal or robbing people of their money."I have learned to turn the negatives into positives and so I make my decisions and understand that everyone works for money.

"At the end of my career, people will not criticise me anymore. They will move on to the next person.

"And at the end of my career the most important thing will be how well I did for myself, my family and those closest to me."This time is my era so I have to make sure I make the most of it."

Gyan has been capped 90 times by his country, scoring 48 times in the process, which is a Black Stars record.

:love:Schneiderlin: Manchester United want to win everything

    morgan-schneiderlin-manchester-united_c6bcvug4k5ah1scfxw3ymkc4r.jpg

New Manchester United signing Morgan Schneiderlin says that the Red Devils are out "to win everything" after securing a return to the Champions League last season.

After a fourth-placed finish in the Premier League, manager Louis van Gaal has already recruited Schneiderlin along with Bastian Schweinsteiger, Memphis Depay and Matteo Darmian this summer.

And the France international says that nothing less than trophies would meet United's targets this term.

"It's a must for the club to be in the top four and winning the title is very important," Schneiderlin told reporters.

"With the players we have in the team you see there is a lot of quality. We are ready to do our best and then mix it with the Champions League. These are the two main targets for the club but we want to win everything, it's as simple as that."

After coming close to leaving Southampton last summer, Schneiderlin finally joined United earlier in July and says that his years of development with the Saints, including a drop into League One early in his stay there, have set him up well for his new challenge.

"Looking back, it benefited me," he recalled of his spell in the third tier as a teenager. "I had to toughen my play, to look myself in the mirror and look where to progress. It makes you realise you don't want to be back there.

"It was the best thing possible. It makes you work even harder and that's what I did."

Kompany: Sterling signing is massive for Manchester City

    raheemsterling-cropped_o9pu19jqfef61uqnmtm4ue7nx.jpg

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has hailed the signing of Raheem Sterling as "massive" for the club.

Sterling ended a drawn-out transfer saga by clinching a £49 million switch to the Etihad Stadium from Liverpool on Tuesday.

And Kompany told City's official website: "It's massive for us - the biggest thing is that you've seen Sterling, especially the way he played the season before last, and he was one of the main reasons, along with [Luis] Suarez, that Liverpool played so well.

"It became more difficult for them when Suarez left but what you will find is that he will have this kind of structure at City already.

"I mean, we've got Kun [Sergio Aguero] up front, we've got [Wilfried] Bony, we've got so many players who will be able to link up with him [that] we will be able to make him better as well.

"We have great quality in the team but you can't compete nowadays if you don't improve every year. Other teams improve, we need to improve and getting him puts us one step closer to being this team which can win trophies again - it's very important for us.

"He's quick, he's very unpredictable - he's shown that he has especially great determination.

"You play against so many players with great quality but it's the fact that he's always willing to put in the extra yard. That makes it that extra bit difficult when you have a player with quality who is not shy to run and put his body on the line - that's a special player."

:yes:Giggs: Manchester United can't afford another slow start

    ryangiggs-cropped_15s7jg7ge6rol1gi837ludogia.jpg

Manchester United need a better start to the Premier League season than in 2014-15, says assistant manager Ryan Giggs.

Despite spending a huge amount last summer, the Red Devils accumulated just 13 points from their first 10 matches before recovering to finish fourth.

Louis van Gaal has again splashed the cash in the current transfer window, with the likes of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin arriving at Old Trafford, and Giggs wants to see the new-look team hit the ground running.

He told the Manchester Evening News: "You saw Chelsea get out of the blocks quickly a few years ago and we had to change our thinking and had to make sure after that we didn't have a slow start.

"All the challengers and rivals will be sharp and ready to go.

"The manager has said it that 13 points from the first 30 [available] wasn't good enough. It is hard when you start like that. You need a better start.

"It's not just these days; Sir Alex Ferguson has said it in the past. You cannot just hope to get going later on; you have to be up and ready from day one of the season. That is what we have to do."

Mandzukic: I didn't want to face Juventus any more!

    mariomandzukic-cropped_y2dzaba73si01rh3pqu2h5mjv.jpg

Mario Mandzukic says he joined Juventus because he didn't want to have to play against the Serie A champions any more.

The former Atletico Madrid attacker faced the Bianconeri twice in the Champions League last term before agreeing to move to Turin this summer for a fee that is expected to rise to €19 million.

Mandzukic revealed at his official unveiling that Juve captain Gianluigi Buffon played a key role in his decision, but added that he was mainly fed up of having to deal with the Bianconeri's famed defence."Before coming here, I spoke with Buffon and I told him that he was my idol since I was a kid," the 29-year-old told reporters on Thursday.

"But Juventus are the best team in Serie A. They are used to winning and lifting trophies. I hope I am able to do my bit to help maintain this tradition."My reason for joining Juve was simple: they're a great team and it was an easy decision to make.

"It's always difficult to play against Juve. The games against have been the most difficult in my career."My decision was also borne of this: I no longer wanted to have to play against them!"

Juve have lost two men who played a key role in last season's run to the final of the Champions League, with Andrea Pirlo moving to MLS side New York City and Carlos Tevez returning to boyhood club Boca Juniors.

However, Mandzukic believes the duo will be adequately replaced by the Bianconeri, who have already brought in Simone Zaza, Paulo Dybala and Sami Khedira."Pirlo and Tevez are extraordinary players and any squad would miss them," the ex-Bayern Munich man added.

"But as some leave, others will arrive. Juve think always of the future. There are already new reinforcements. I wish and hope that we remain as strong as last season."

Arturo Vidal is another expected departure, with Bayern Munich believed to be close to securing a €40m deal for the Chilean midfielder.

Everton in contact with Inter over Vidic swoop

    nemanja-vidic_1czagy6tez6uq1t9v0imvgtl2z.jpg

Everton have made an enquiry to Inter about the availability of Nemanja Vidic, Goal has learned.

The Serbian centre-back had a less-than-inspiring first campaign with the Nerazzurri last season following his move from Manchester United.

Vidic had been linked with a lucrative switch to the Middle East but Goal understands that there is interest back in England.

A number of clubs are understood to be keeping tabs on the 33-year-old's situation but Everton have made an opening push.

The Toffees just lost out to West Ham for the signng of Italian international Angelo Ogbonna, so a centre-back is high on Roberto Martinez's wanted list, and Vidic is one of the alternative targets to whom the manager has turned his attention.

A source confirmed to Goal: "Vidic is available and he is still only 33 so a move back to England does appeal."

    Casillas: I'm committed to Porto

    iker-casillas-real-madrid-farewell_1dpftlvsndlm418lzn8z6my9d0.jpg

Iker Casillas says that he is fully committed to the Porto cause - despite ongoing speculation that he never wanted to leave Real Madrid.

The Blancos academy product was sat alone at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday as he tearfully announced he was leaving the Blancos, thus ending a 25-year association with the Liga giants.

Casillas' parents have claimed that their son was forced out by club president Florentino Perez, whom they accused of leading a public smear campaign against the goalkeeper.

The Blancos supremo denied this while sat alongside Casillas at a hastily arranged farewell press conference on Monday, insisting the World Cup winner wanted to leave.Casillas has refused to be drawn into the manner of his exit but dismissed the suggestion that he does not want to be at Porto.

"Nobody can doubt my effort or my commitment to my new shirt," the 34-year-old shot-stopper told EFE."I will continue to work with the same enthusiasm and the same desire.

"In just a few days here, I have already felt the love and support of the fans on social networks, at the airport, in the stadium and on the streets of Porto."My first impression is that these are unbeatable fans.

"I'm happy, excited and eager to start this new project. Porto are one of the biggest clubs in Europe and certainly the best team in Portugal."

Rummenigge: Vidal to Bayern not a done deal...yet

    arturo-vidal-chile-v-peru_dl22rh4nyx6p14n1bmnwx1snx.jpg

Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has teased that Juventus ace Arturo Vidal is edging towards signing for the Bundesliga club.

The Bavarians have agreed a €40 million fee with the Bianconeri for the Chile international, whom the German champions first tried to sign in 2011 when he was still at Bayer Leverkusen.

Rummenigge is now hopeful that Bayern can finally get their man, although he added that there is still work to be done."I can’t confirm Vidal’s signing – yet," the 59-year-old told Sky Germany. "We have to wait a bit.

"Michael Reschke [Bayern’s technical director, who worked for Leverkusen until 2014] told me the truth about 2011: it was not the player but the club who blocked his move to Bayern.

"So, in the end, I hope Vidal will come to us. It is impossible that Vidal will join Bayern on our tour of China. Even the Bavarians can't sign a player that fast."Bayern are looking to reinforce their midfield after allowing Bastian Schweinsteiger to join Manchester United earlier this week.

Immobile wanted to join Napoli - agent

    ciro-immobile-borussia-dortmund-dfb-pokal-03032015_on8ljc1uvkpz6nql6ipzxkp.jpg

Ciro Immobile was aiming for a move to Napoli instead of Sevilla this summer, his agent has suggested.

The striker has joined the Spanish club on loan from Borussia Dortmund following a disappointed debut season in the Bundesliga. However, his representative says he was open to a move to Stadio San Paolo - but the Italian side were not interested.

"Ciro has expressed his love for Napoli on several occasions," Marco Sommella told Radio Marte. "But the messages were not reciprocated. There's no controversy, everyone has made their choices.

"He is Neapolitan, it could have been a good thing."Sommella, though, is positive about the move to Sevilla, stating it is a good chance for Immobile to recover from a bad campaign in Germany.

"The plan is that we are looking for a revival. Sevilla have won the Europa League twice in a row and are in the Champions League."This makes it clear how important the choice was."

    Schweinsteiger shrugs off Beckenbauer criticism

    bastian-schweinsteiger-manchester-united_1wg6mvqti0ml61iy70enuk81ag.jpg

Manchester United signing Bastian Schweinsteiger has dismissed Franz Beckenbauer's suggestion that he may not have the fitness or the athleticism to adapt to Premier League football in his 30s.

Schweinsteiger ended his 17-year association with Bayern Munich by completing a £12 million move to Old Trafford earlier this month, and will become the first German to represent United at senior level.

When asked about Schweinsteiger's ability to shine in England, Beckenbauer replied: “I find it very brave to make a move like this at his age. People know Schweinsteiger at Bayern and know what he can do. That’s not the case in England. He will have to prove himself all over again.

“Basti is 30 years old at the moment. I wish him all the best and hope he can represent German football well in England. Not a lot of players have succeeded in doing so. A move to MLS would have made more sense for me. He has to make sure he becomes fully match fit again and recharge his battery.”

But Schweinsteiger himself insists he has no such concerns. “I don’t know when Beckenbauer moved to America to New York Comsos at 32. I am 30," he told reporters.

"It is a challenge for me. I feel very good. I had last year the thing with my knee after the World Cup which was very intensive for me and I had a break at October.

“But from that time on I had no injury, I was fit and felt fit at the end. Of course sometimes when you are getting older you need a little more time for recovery, maybe half a day more than 20-year-old players so that’s normal. But I think I have a lot of experience, especially of the big matches and that is an advantage always.

“I am confident. My style of play is to control a game. You have to be smart in your brain and fast. For me it is very important to control a situation in defence. You can always score goals but you have to add stability in the defence.”

Schweinsteiger is the most illustrious name to occupy the heart of United's midfield since the retirement of club legend Paul Scholes, and he has warned Red Devils fans not to expect the same level of contribution from him.

“Not easy to say it can happen the same again,” he added. “Roy Keane and Paul Scholes were unbelievable players. You cannot compare yourself to them. It is impossible. Scholes especially, I like him a lot and I have a lot of respect for what he did for United.”

Lucas: Ibrahimovic is nice in real life!

    zlatan-ibrahimovic-paris-saint-germain_18u6zb118zh311a0phvjft1ayz.jpg

Lucas Moura says Paris Saint-Germain team-mate Zlatan Ibrahimovic is a "very nice guy" in real life and is very different to the man fans and media see on the field.

Ibrahimovic has earned a reputation of possessing a difficult personality, having been involved in several controversial incidents on and off the field over the years.

However, Lucas insists the Swede is not the pretentious figure people believe him to be, but admits he does not try to be popular."He is very different from what people think - he is a very nice guy in real life," L'Equipe.

"He treats everyone really well, but he has a profile that everyone knows about. He says what he thinks - if he does not like someone he lets them know. He is not trying to be popular."On the field, he has that explosive behaviour. He complains, insults and all of that, but I think it's almost normal for a striker.

"He has a will, an ambition to win, to score goals, to win, which is huge."The Brazil international also touched on the differences between former PSG coach Carlo Ancelotti and current boss Laurent Blanc.

"Carlo Ancelotti was more of a kind of father figure, I would say that he had more affection for the players. Laurent has that too, but more for the French. Ancelotti was more in touch with the emotional side and the personal life of players."

The 22-year-old was left out of the Brazil squad for the Copa America this summer, adding to the misery of missing out on the World Cup, but he is confident of getting back into the team.

"I always have the Selecao in mind, of course it's a goal," he said. "It is a great pleasure to be in the national team, a great satisfaction. But I'm only 22 and I have plenty of time to return to it."I am at peace, but I must respect the coach and his choices.

"Of course there was this feeling that I could have helped in the tournaments, especially the World Cup - that's the dream of every player, particularly when it takes place in your own country. But I don't think about the past, I'm looking to the future, I will aim for the 2018 World Cup."

Pogba could join Barcelona if Laporta wins election - Raiola

    paul-pogba-juventus_l317vmdjr6bc17aigfzuswkk3.jpg

Mino Raiola has said that Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba will have "a big chance" of joining Barcelona if Joan Laporta wins the Catalan side's upcoming presidential elections.

Laporta, who presided over the Camp Nou club from 2003 to 2010, is one of the favourites alongside Josep Maria Bartomeu to win Saturday's vote.Barca have already seen an €80 million bid rejected for the France international, but Laporta has already insisted that if he is reinstated as the club's president it would give them an advantage in attracting the 22-year-old.

And the player's agent has backed the 52-year-old's claims, adding that Barca's initial attempts to strike a deal with the Turin club through directors Ariedo Braida and Alberto Soler was "silly" and a mere "political" ploy.

"Pogba has a big chance of going to Barcelona [if Laporta wins]," he told EFE. "First he’ll need to talk to me and then to Juventus, but it can be done.
"Alberto Soler doesn't know Pogba. The trip to Turin seemed political, they were there to take a photograph. It was a very strange journey. Silly.
"Paul and I were not even in Turin."

Casillas first person I called - Benitez

    rafa-benitez-cropped_zqj8a3z6bs241rq26mfb7anlf.jpg

Real Madrid boss Rafa Benitez has revealed Iker Casillas was the first person he called after joining the club as he tried to convince him to stay. The goalkeeper left Madrid for Porto last week after a difficult 18 months during which he was criticised for a number of high-profile mistakes.

Manchester United No.1 David De Gea has been strongly linked with a move to the Bernabeu, which pushed Casillas further towards the exit door.

The club have since been criticised for the manner in which they handled his exit, with supporters unhappy at the low-key ceremony afforded to him prior to his departure.Half a world away from that bitter incident, Benitez and the squad are in Australia for the International Champions Cup at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Speaking ahead of his team's match against Roma on Saturday, the former Liverpool manager told a news conference he made every attempt to find a solution with the long-serving goalkeeper prior to his exit.

"I want to talk about Casillas," he said."When I first got the job he was the first person I called. We met face to face, we've had many discussions. We talked about, in person, many scenarios that would happen.

"I don't like the division that's happening within Real Madrid now and that's got to be put behind us."Madrid have become synonymous with big-money moves for star players, having signed the likes of Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez for huge fees in recent seasons.

But if Benitez is true to his word, there could be a shift in priorities at the Santiago Bernabeu after the new boss - a former player and coach of the Castilla 'B' team - promised to utilise the long-neglected Madrid 'cantera'.

"We've got the best players in the world here at Real Madrid. To find even better players, it's hard," he said."If we do bring in players, we're competing with many clubs, who have a lot of resources available. It's not just a matter of a player becoming available. There's many clubs chasing one player.

"We have a great youth system at Real Madrid. We've got great youth players coming through our system. We also have an eye on those players. We'd like to give them a chance coming through."We understand that they need high quality but we [will] give them a chance. And we would like to develop our own players."

Koke: Jackson Martinez and Vietto will adapt

    dani-alves-koke-atletico-de-madrid-barcelona-liga-bbva-05172015_er7g9wm2dkorz4nf7o3noe4q.jpg

Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke is confident summer arrivals Jackson Martinez and Luciano Vietto will settle quickly and make a big impact next season.

Los Rojiblancos brought in the pair to boost their strikeforce ahead of the La Liga restart, with Martinez's €35 million move from Porto confirmed on Wednesday.
And Koke believes it will only be a matter of time before their new additions make their quality felt, and feels the renewed competition for places will benefit Atletico as they renew their search for silverware in the campaign ahead.

"He’s [Martinez] a great addition. He’s had some great seasons at Porto; big players are joining the club," the 23-year-old told AS. "Big players always leave and others come in but in the end we always have a good season.

"Vietto looks sharp. He still has to find his role in the team. Some of us have been here longer and we’re used to things, but gradually he’ll settle in and will be an important part of the team."At the end of the day the spine of the team always continues and those that come in will adapt."

The Spain international also revealed coach Diego Simeone's plans for him in the centre of the park as the side look to carry on without playmaker Arda Turan, who joined Barcelona after spending four seasons at Vicente Calderon."It’s true. We’ve only trained for a few days and the gaffer is trying me out there [as a central midfielder]," he continued.

"I want to help the team wherever necessary. If he wants to put me in the middle, out on the wing, or wherever he needs me I’ll give it everything to try and help the team.

"Some friends told me [about Arda's move to Barcelona]. It’s a shame he’s not continuing with us. I wish him all the best because Arda is a good friend of mine.
"I was on holiday and wasn’t even aware of it [Barcelona's interest]."

Benitez: Ramos staying at Real Madrid

Real Madrid coach Rafael Benitez insists Sergio Ramos will not be leaving the club after labelling the centre-back a "winner".

Manchester United have been tipped to sign the 29-year-old after talks stalled with Madrid over a new contract, which expires in June 2017.Nevertheless, Benitez reiterated that Madrid have no intention of selling Ramos, with the Spain international part of the club's pre-season training tour of Australia.

"There is a lot of talk about his [Ramos'] situation. For me he is an enormous professional. He applies himself and does everything that the team and I ask," Benitez told reporters ahead of Madrid's opening International Champions Cup match against Roma on Saturday."The president [Florentino Perez] has already commented that he is staying with the club."

Benitez, who demanded that his side improve defensively after watching them concede more more goals in La Liga than champions Barcelona, rivals Atletico Madrid and Valencia last season, then confirmed the importance of Ramos.

"I have spoken to him at length in the summer about his ideas and his future," the former Napoli coach continued."I see Sergio as an integral part of our team. He is a winner and that is what we need in our team."

The Spain international, who moved to the Bernabeu in 2005, is expected to be made captain following the departure of goalkeeper Iker Casillas to Porto.

Arjen Robben has revealed his delight at the prospect of teaming up with Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal at Bayern Munich next season.

The two clubs have agreed a €40 million fee for the Chile international, while the player's agent negotiated personal terms with the Bavarians on Tuesday.

Robben says he would welcome the arrival of the 28-year-old as Bayern chase elusive Champions League success once again next term under coach Pep Guardiola.

"A player with those qualities can help any team,” he told Bild.Michael Skibbe, who managed Vidal at Bayer Leverkusen in 2007-08, believes he will make a big impact at Allianz Arena: “Arturo is extremely vociferous and aggressive.

"Vidal is, with his attitude, exactly the right player for Bayern with all their technically strong players.”Vidal will replace Bastian Schweinsteiger, who joined Manchester United earlier this week.

Wenger: Top four? The title is now Arsenal's target

    arsene-wenger-arsenal_1t5b1qgvuvlxn1a165rgpzib4c.jpg

Arsene Wenger says Arsenal are aiming to win the Premier League this season and believes the club aren't "far away" from delivering a first title since 2004.

The Gunners finished third in 2014-15, 12 points behind eventual champions Chelsea and ended the season strongly as they lifted the FA Cup for a second consecutive year.

Arsenal have so far signed Petr Cech as they prepare for the upcoming campaign and the Frenchman feels the current squad is well-equipped to mount a serious assault on the league's summit.

"[The title] is our target and we feel we have a chance in a very competitive league. We are not far [away],” he said at a press conference.

Meanwhile, Wenger has confirmed that Yaya Sanogo will leave the club on loan this season, with Ajax closing in on securing his signature.

"He will go on loan, I believe he needs to play,” he said. “He's ready and he'll get an opportunity to play in the Champions League."
