Wolfsberger 0-1 Borussia Dortmund: Controversial Hofmann strike earns Tuchel winning start

    jonas-hofmann-borussia-dortmund-bundesliga-08232014_1pioxxxnbtylb14tk44cpbomte.jpg

Thomas Tuchel began his competitive reign as Borussia Dortmund coach with a 1-0 Europa League victory at Wolfsberger.

BVB dominated their Austrian hosts during the first half of the third qualifying round, first-leg tie and led through Jonas Hofmann.

Wolfsberger understandably protested after an offside decision went in favour of Marcos Reus during the build-up, but Hofmann - who endured an injury-plagued spell on loan with Mainz last term - made no mistake when the chance fell his way.

The Bundesliga outfit allowed their levels to drop as the second half wore on and Thomas Zundel passed up a glorious chance as Wolfsberger's confidence grew.

Joachim Standfest and substitute Tadej Trdina had efforts cleared off the line for Didi Kuhbauer's side, who remain in the tie ahead of next week's second leg at Signal Iduna Park.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang headed off target from Hofmann's second-minute cross as Dortmund immediately established early control.

Wolfsberger's high defensive line looked set to cause them problems during the early stages and so it proved in the 14th minute when Dortmund opened the scoring in controversial fashion.

Clearly in an offside position as Ilkay Gundogan played the ball forwards, Reus was adjudged not to have interfered with play as he left it for Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who steamed towards goal from the left and cut the ball across to leave Hofmann with a simple finish.

Mkhitaryan again found space down the Wolfsberger right after 28 minutes but his low cross to the far post was too far ahead of the onrushing Aubameyang.

Reus teed up Hofmann to have an attempt blocked before Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Burki - preferred to Roman Weidenfeller, who Tuchel has confirmed will play in the second leg - dealt unconvincingly with a Manuel Seidl free-kick in a rare moment of encouragement for the hosts.

The majority of the action remained in vicinity of the Wolfsberger penalty area when the game resumed, with Alexander Kofler saving excellently from Hofmann’s low strike before Aubameyang provided a second wayward headed attempt.

With an hour played, the home team masterfully cut Dortmund open but, following a neat turn and pass from Seidl, Thomas Zundel blazed wastefully over.

Apparently buoyed by that attack, Christopher Wernitznig bundled beyond Dortmund full-back Lukasz Piszczek and cut a dangerous centre across the face of goal. Piszczek recovered well and was on hand to block Standfest's effort from Zundel's cutback.

The next Dortmund man to perform heroics on his own goal-line was Mkhitaryan, when Trdina met Seidl's right-wing corner.

The offside flag belatedly came to Wolfsberger's aid in the 76th minute, when Mkhitaryan had his celebrations correctly cut short, and Tuchel's men preserved their slender advantage despite another Seidl corner causing further havoc, Burki excelling himself to thwart Boris Huttenbrenner and Silvio.

Southampton 3-0 Vitesse: Pelle & Long help Saints to routine win

    1718732_heroa.jpg

Goals from Graziano Pelle, Dusan Tadic and Shane Long gave Southampton a comfortable 3-0 win over Vitesse in the first leg of their Europa League third qualifying round clash on Thursday.

Pelle opened the scoring with a vicious first-half strike, before Tadic doubled his side's lead from the penalty spot after Sadio Mane was fouled in the area.

Long then completed the rout with a simple header in the dying stages following a superb Juanmi cross. The result gives Koeman's team a comfortable lead to defend when they head to Arnhem for the second leg, having displayed admirable fitness and composure in their first competitive game of the season.

The hosts improved as the game wore on, having shown initial signs of nerves while Vitesse created the better of the early openings.

Georgian striker Valeri Kazaishvili gave Southampton a wake-up call when he latched onto a long ball and managed to get away from his marker before dragging a shot just wide of Maarten Stekelenburg's post.

As the home side settled, Maya Yoshida should have done better from a Steven Davis corner, and an even better chance followed when Victor Wanyama found himself with time and space inside the box, but the Kenyan's aim was poor and Vitesse goalkeeper Eloy Room made a relatively simple save.

The Premier League side found their rhythm by the half-hour mark, and Davis stung Room's hands when he arrowed a fierce shot from just outside the box.

Southampton's dominance paid off when Cedric broke down the right flank and fed Mane, whose simple pass into the box left Pelle with only Room to beat, and he did so with an instinctive shot that flashed into the top of the net.

On the cusp of half-time, the hosts doubled their lead, as Mane was brought down in the box by Rochdi Achenteh, and Tadic made no mistake with the spot kick.

On-loan Stekelenburg, making his Southampton debut, enjoyed a quiet game until Danilo Pantic broke through after 70 minutes, but the Dutchman was alert to the task, saving low to his right.

Vitesse substitute Milot Rashica missed a clear chance, sending a volley over the bar from 10 yards out when a more accurate shot might have put his side right back in the tie.

Moments later, second-half substitute Long broke clear of the defence and was denied by Room, but fellow replacement Juanmi flicked the loose ball back to the Irishman and he made no mistake with a close-range header.

Chelsea delighted to have 'top player' Falcao - Terry

    radamel-falcao-garcia-galeria_v73gfb038cs81bapnu9yobr20.jpg

John Terry insists that Radamel Falcao can be a “top, top player” at Chelsea, due to his performance against the club for Manchester United.

Falcao endured a disappointing spell at Old Trafford, scoring just four goals in 29 appearances in all competitions following his loan move from Monaco.

Nevertheless, Terry is sure that the 29-year-old can recover the form that made him one of the best strikers in world football in west London, having encouraged Jose Mourinho to sign him.

“When we played him at the Bridge in April, after about 10 minutes, I said to Gary Cahill, ‘We’ve got to be on it today - he’s right up for it’,” he told reporters.

“He was hungry, he was sharp and he has been showing that in training since he has joined us.”

Terry also says that, so impressive was Falcao’s performance for United, he was one of the finest players he came up against in 2014-15.

“For me, him and Harry Kane were the best players I came up against last season,” he added.

“Literally after two minutes of that game, he was backing in, showing the movement as well.

“We had a little tussle on the floor 10 to 15 minutes later. He was up for it. He was hungry and his movement and first touch were excellent. We are delighted to have him here because he’s a top, top player.”

Guardiola will leave Bayern in 2016, says Effenberg

    pep-guardiola-fc-bayern-bundesliga-23052015_fdpbb44l8bdj1u06xza1xpjp6.jpg

Former Bayern Munich midfielder Stefan Effenberg believes Pep Guardiola will leave the Bundesliga champions at the end of his contract in June 2016.

The former Barcelona coach has so far been reluctant to open talks over a new deal and has been heavily linked with a departure at the end of the season.

Manchester City are keen to lure him to the Premier League and Effenberg feels an exit next year is inevitable, adding that former Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp could be the Spaniard's replacement at the Allianz Arena."I am pretty certain that Guardiola will no longer be in charge of Bayern after 2016," Effenberg told Sky.

"Who could replace him? I am thinking about Jurgen Klopp. He is definitely an alternative for Guardiola in Munich."Effenberg also briefly discussed the upcoming DFL Supercup match versus Wolfsburg and expects Bayern to be gunning for revenge after their 4-1 Bundesliga defeat last term.

"Bayern will take the game seriously. They will still be a tad annoyed that they lost 4-1. They will want to get their revenge."FCB last won the German Supercup in 2012, when they beat Dortmund 2-1.

    Negredo quashes Valencia exit rumours

    alvaronegredo-cropped_e201249ack8o1rfpka07snt6f.jpg

Valencia striker Alvaro Negredo has dismissed rumours of a possible departure, insisting he has no plans to leave the Liga club.

Negredo only joined Valencia on a permanent deal worth €30million from Manchester City on July 1 after spending the 2014-15 season on loan at the Mestalla, but the Spain international has reportedly been offered up for sale.
Talk of a swift exit comes after the 29-year-old was an unused substitute in Valencia's 1-0 friendly win over PSV last week.

However, Negredo has made it clear he has no intention of leaving."From the first day after last season ended, my mind has been focused on Valencia," the striker told reporters."I want to work hard and continue developing. My plan is to stay.

"I'm here to show my face in public and put an end to everything that's being said, most of which isn't true... that I've been missing... whether I'm being professional... I've been training with a fever for two days and it's no laughing matter. I'm here to show my face publicly and to say that I'm happy and at ease at Valencia.

"My plan is to stay and nobody has said I'm not in their plans. I'm here to keep working and nothing more," Negredo added."At the end of the day the club decides and they choose who they want and who they don't. But nobody has said to me they don't want me.

"I'm really happy and relaxed and I want to give Valencia the best of myself. They've just exercised the purchase option and it would be strange, but in football anything can happen."

Negredo only scored five goals in 29 league appearances during his loan stint last term.

'Romero must adapt quickly at Manchester United' - Schmeichel

    1702532_heroa.jpg

Peter Schmeichel believes Sergio Romero must quickly become accustomed to playing at a “very aggressive football club” if he is to have any chance of taking the No.1 shirt at Manchester United.

The Argentine international completed a free transfer to Old Trafford on Monday, with Louis van Gaal admitting that the move prepares the club for the potential exit of David de Gea.

It took United six years, however, to adequately replace Schmeichel, a five-time Premier League champion, and the Dane emphasised the need for a United goalkeeper to inspire confidence in the players in front of him.

“The goalkeeping job at Manchester United has always been important,” he told Goal at the filming of the new Carlsberg advert 'If Carlsberg Did Kickabouts'.

“It has always been important because of the style of play. Manchester United is a very aggressive, attack-minded football club, it’s chasing wins and it’s chasing goals.

“When you do that you commit people forward, and when you commit people forward you need strong defenders and a strong goalkeeper who can understand what’s going to happen next in terms of what the team is doing.

“Certain goalkeepers that were signed after I left the club didn’t have that.

“They didn’t have that confidence, didn’t inspire that confidence onto their team-mates and their immediate defenders. That was a big problem. Fortunately it was sorted out when Edwin [van der Sar] came in, and the standard of goalkeeping was back to where it should be.”

Part of that role at a top club such as United, Schmeichel insists, is serving as the first line of attack and initiating the team's moves upfield.

He also wants to see Van Gaal select a more consistent defensive unit, pointing to defending champions Chelsea as an example to follow.

“I think, for goalkeepers, goalkeepers are the first attackers, if you like,” Schmeichel continued.

“Pep Guardiola says that everyone is a defender and everyone is an attacker and that’s very true in the way that goalkeepers play these days.

“They’re very much involved in build-up and all that but the fact of the matter is, the core work for goalkeepers is still goalkeeping and I think it very much relies on confidence.

“I actually believe your back four or five – your goalkeeper and defenders – that’s your bank box. These guys, if you don’t have them performing at the highest level every time, you can’t do much going forward.

“You can play around with the guys going forward but those [defensive] guys, you see it with Chelsea – near enough the same back five in every game this season and it’s no coincidence that they conceded the least goals, and that they won the championship.”

Drogba: I won't be a burden to Montreal Impact

    didierdrogba-cropped_1ouuunqeupqz1si89k0rm2w2u.jpg

Montreal Impact striker Didier Drogba has asked for patience as he does not want to be a burden to the team on the day of his MLS debut.

Drogba has not played since Chelsea's final match of the 2014-15 Premier League season and the 37-year-old knows it will take him time to get back to peak fitness, with the rest of the Impact squad having completed half of this year's MLS campaign.

The Impact signed Drogba on Monday as part of a trade with Chicago Fire.
"It's almost been two-and-a-half months that I haven't played," Drogba told the MLS website.

"I'll need time. We'll see with the coach... I will eventually play but I want to be able to contribute to the team and not be kind of a burden. I need to get ready."

The former Ivory Coast captain - who has played for Marseille, Chelsea and Galatasaray during his career - also underlined the importance of Montreal's multi-cultural nature in convincing him to join the Impact."This cultural diversity is important.

"I quite simply felt like getting to know the city. I was won over by the project and by the work that the president has already started with the club, looking to give back to the community through soccer. It's a little bit like what I do with my foundation.

"My children are bilingual. I know there are superb schools here. It also went into my decision."

Lewandowski: The best is yet to come

    robert-lewandowski-bayern-munich-friendly-23072015_179pg0y5k5d9y1qrwdpyttdgrg.jpg

Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski has vowed to show the fans what he is capable of in his second season at the Bundesliga champions. The Poland international joined FCB from Borussia Dortmund in 2014 and netted 17 goals in 31 league appearances in his first year at the club.

But the 26-year-old believes he has yet to hit his best form at the Bavarians and is determined to do even better in 2015-16.

"I don’t believe the fans have already seen the best of me. I can, and will, be even better this season, I’m certain of that," Lewandowski told the official Bayern website.

"It’s not always easy of course as there are so many factors involved. It’s vital we play well as a team. That’s the most important thing."It would be useless to me personally if I was to finish top scorer but we only come second in the Bundesliga and go out of the Champions League in the last sixteen."Lewandowski went on to voice his delight with the arrival of Arturo Vidal from Juventus.

"I can’t say a lot just yet, and he needs to settle in first. But I’m delighted he’s on my team now and not facing us as an opponent – as a striker you never enjoy it against players like him..."Arturo will definitely make us stronger. He’s a superb player, both in defence and attack."

    Arda Turan suffers ankle sprain

    1660512_heroa.jpg

Barcelona have announced that Turkey international Arda Turan has sprained his ankle and faces a brief spell on the sidelines.

The 28-year-old joined Barcelona from Atletico Madrid earlier this summer in a deal worth €34 million, potentially rising to €41m depending on add-ons.

Arda will not be allowed to make his official Barcelona debut any time soon due to the Catalans' transfer ban, which prevents them from registering any new players until the January transfer window, but he did already participate in regular training action.

However, he will now face a brief spell on the sidelines due to injury.

"Arda Turan twisted his ankle during Friday morning training and the verdict is that he has a second degree sprain in the external ligaments," read a statement on the club's official website.

"He will now need to be subjected to more thorough testing which should shed more light on his availability over the next few days."

Arda was Barcelona's second signing ahead of the 2015-16 campaign, following the arrival of Aleix Vidal from Sevilla.

I don't want to be a problem for Bayern - Guardiola

    pep-guardiola-bayern_1mb1iixku93no1p8g2iaxoj8ui.jpg

Pep Guardiola hopes his decision not to hasten talks over a fresh contract with Bayern Munich will not disrupt the Bundesliga champions.

His current deal expires next year and speculation has raged over the future of the Catalan coach, with some suggesting he has already agreed to take over at Manchester City.

The 44-year-old has not confirmed his plans, but admits that it is not certain he will remain at the Allianz Arena.

"I am coach of Bayern and I am grateful to be here," he said at a press conference.

"I haven’t decided my future yet. As soon as I come to a decision, I will inform Kalle Rummenige, Matthias Sammer and Uli Hoeness.

"We still have a lot of time. But if I will extend my contract, I must be absolutely sure that it is the best for the club. I don’t want to become a problem for FC Bayern.

"I did my very best, am doing my very best, will do my very best.

"I haven’t receive any offer from another club."

Guardiola then went on to discuss Philipp Lahm, who could return to the defence more regularly after being played as a midfielder last term.

"Philipp is one of our most important players. He played in a number of positions during our trip to China and always did well.

"I like him in midfield because of the way he anticipates certain situations. But we have plenty of alternatives in midfield, whereas Rafinha is our only other right-back.

"So Philipp will be used both in midfield and in defence throughout the season."

Alexis Sanchez: I want to be handsome when celebrating a goal

    1336442_heroa.jpg

Alexis Sanchez is known for his tireless work rate, sharp eye for goal and... his looks?

Maybe not, but that apparently hasn’t stopped the Arsenal forward from trying to look his best whenever he finds the net.

Speaking at an event in Santiago organised by Gillette to celebrate Chile’s Copa America triumph, Alexis delivered the following classic to an excited crowd of fans.

”When I started to shave I had no money to buy a Gillette, but now they give me them, I try to shave before matches so I can be handsome when celebrating a goal. I recommend it to all men who are here. And all the women too,” he was quoted as saying by La Tercera.

Move over, Olivier Giroud. You’ve got some competition.

Staying put? Pogba vows to fill Vidal void at Juventus

Paul Pogba is confident that he has what it takes to take Arturo Vidal's role at Juventus and be the club's highest-scoring midfielder this season. The Chile international left the Serie A champions for Bayern Munich this month, but Pogba has ensured the club's fans they have nothing to worry about.

Vidal netted 35 goals in four seasons in Serie A, hitting eight in all competitions last season, while Pogba has scored 20 times in three years in the Italian top flight.

"I am happy to play wherever the coach needs me. I feel really good playing as an attacking midfielder behind two strikers. We'll see what happens. It's a role I enjoy," Pogba told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"I think I can be [our most prolific midfielder]. I hope it will happen, both for myself and for Juventus."Two great midfielders have left, but I have learned a lot from them. It's now up to me to show that I have grown. "

Aside from Vidal, Juventus also lost Andrea Pirlo and Carlos Tevez, but Pogba remains optimistic about his side's chances in the new season."We have lost some important players, but we have also brought in some experienced players. We are Juventus and we must always do well.

"I think we can win a fifth title in a row if we really want it. It all depends on ourselves. It will be even more difficult than before and that's why we have to be fully focused."

Di Maria fined for Man Utd no-show

    angeldimaria-cropped_84pyypabhcui11tdxfgh1xpm1.jpg

Manchester United have fined Angel Di Maria two weeks' wages in what is expected to be one of the final acts before the Argentine completes his transfer to Paris Saint-Germain.

Goal understands that United have withheld £360,000 from Di Maria's pay following the player's decision not to board a plane to San Jose to meet his team-mates during their recent US pre-season tour.

The 27-year-old was due to join up with the club on July 25 following his delayed summer break after Copa America duty with Argentina.

But after United manager Louis van Gaal admitted he did not know why Di Maria had not caught his flight as planned, talks quickly gained pace regarding an exit from Old Trafford just one year after his British-record £59.7 million arrival from Real Madrid.

PSG boss Laurent Blanc confirmed on Wednesday, following his club's 2-0 victory over United in the International Champions Cup in Chicago, that discussions with Di Maria were nearing a positive conclusion.

"You know negotiations are [ongoing] and as Paris Saint-Germain [and United] are both big clubs, that can be difficult. But we feel we are close to the end," Blanc told a press conference.

A deal worth a reported €62 million (£44m) is expected to be completed in the coming days.

Di Maria recorded only 32 appearances in all competitions for United in 2014-15 including eight as a substitute, and started just one of the club's final 10 fixtures.

Liverpool and West Brom agree £3m Lambert deal

    825992_heroa.jpg

Liverpool have agreed to sell striker Rickie Lambert to West Brom for £3 million, Goal understands.

Tony Pulis has been keen to add some firepower to his squad, and the England international will undergo a medical before agreeing a deal with the Baggies.

Lambert only joined the Reds from Southampton last summer, but struggled with the pressure of playing for his boyhood club as he scored just two Premier League goals.

His poor form coupled with Mario Balotelli's disappointing performances and Daniel Sturridge's injury problems has led Brendan Rodgers to supplement his strikeforce with the signings of Danny Ings and Christian Benteke this summer.

Divock Origi has also arrived having spent a year on loan with Lille, meaning Lambert has fallen down the pecking order at Anfield, while Balotelli, along with Roberto Firmino and Benteke, have been left out of the squad facing HJK in Helsinki on Saturday.

Lambert's departure will see him vacate the club's No.9 shirt, with Benteke likely to take his place and follow in the footsteps of the likes of Robbie Fowler and Fernando Torres in taking on the illustrious jersey.

    Milan's €25m offer turns Romagnoli's head

    alessio-romagnoli-roma-serie-a_1ie2na5nz1lua12tjbc52yxmqn.png

Alessio Romagnoli has suggested that he could leave Roma in the summer transfer window amid ongoing interest from AC Milan.

The 20-year-old impressed on loan at Sampdoria in 2014-15 and is widely regarded as one of Italy's most promising young defenders.Clubs such as AC Milan and Napoli are keen to lure him away from the Stadio Olimpico, with the former recently tabling a €25 million offer for the centre-back.

Roma have so far been adamant that Romagnoli is going nowhere, turning down Milan's bid, but the Italy Under-21 star himself seems not convinced that his future lies with the Giallorossi."Whether I will stay at Roma? We will see what happens. I don't know if I will stay," the youngster told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Romagnoli came through the ranks of the Roma youth academy and made his official first-team debut in 2012-13. He spent last season on loan at Sampdoria in order to gain valuable first-team experience.

He has a contract with Roma until the summer of 2018.

    Dortmund hand Aubameyang new deal

    pierre-emerickaubameyangcropped_ruhohi81xw8e18f8gbky3g1xv.jpg

Borussia Dortmund have confirmed that forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has extended his contract until 2020.

The Gabon international had been linked with a potential move to Premier League side Arsenal earlier in July but the two-year extension - with a salary upgrade - should end immediate speculation about his future.

"I'm absolutely delighted that the coming years of my career will be spent at Borussia Dortmund," Aubameyang told BVB's official website.

"I feel extremely comfortable at this club, playing with my team-mates and residing in this city. Dortmund has become a second home for me. I am committed to the club with all my heart and never considered departing."

Dortmund broke the news on their website only to take it down swiftly afterwards, causing some confusion about whether it had been prematurely announced, but a few minutes later it was back on their official site.

BVB sporting director Michael Zorc praised the 26-year-old's progress since joining from Saint-Etienne in 2013 for €13 million, with Aubameyang scoring 25 goals in 46 appearances last season.

"Aubameyang has developed outstandingly," Zorc said. "We're delighted that we've been able to tie him to another long-term contract."

The African forward played all 90 minutes in Thomas Tuchel's first competitive game as Dortmund coach on Thursday as Jonas Hofmann's goal saw them defeat Austrian opposition Wolfsberger 1-0 in their Europa League qualification tie first leg.

Mourinho confirms Costa & Cahill fit to face Arsenal

    1693522_heroa.jpg

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed that both Diego Costa and Gary Cahill are fit to face Arsenal in Sunday’s Community Shield at Wembley.

The striker was a doubt after being withdrawn after an hour of Chelsea’s friendly win over Barcelona in Washington on Wednesday after feeling a twinge in his hamstring.

Cahill, meanwhile, was also replaced after a clash of heads while scoring a late equaliser as the game finished 2-2 with Chelsea prevailing 4-2 on penalties.

However, Mourinho has now confirmed that both men are fit to face the Gunners and that he has no injury concerns ahead of the start of the new season.

"All good,” he told reporters."'There are no concerns, no protections [for Costa]. We have three top strikers. I'm not worried. No problem."

The Chelsea boss also offered his view on the news that Premier League fixtures would not be adjusted to help teams in the Champions League.

"My reaction is that here we have four teams in the Champions League and we will not make a big noise of it," he added.

"But one day when England has only three teams in the Champions League people will wake up."

Wilshere: Arsenal can be successful this season if…

    jackwilshere-cropped_9gma7gv6p55s1pkn76l9zpilq.jpg

Jack Wilshere is confident Arsenal can challenge for the Premier League title this season provided they are quick out of the blocks.

Arsene Wenger's men won 19 of their last 26 matches in all competitions in a strong finish to the 2014-15 campaign but a worst ever start under the manager saw them win two of their opening eight league matches.

Arsenal finished the season in third place -12 points adrift of eventual champions Chelsea - and Wilshere is keen to build on their late-season form, highlighting Petr Cech's arrival as a sign of the club's ambition.

"We didn't start the season well last year but the way we finished it, if we had played the whole season like that then we could have been champions," Wilshere told the club's official website.

"If we continue our form from the end of last season when we dominated games with our possession, and we won the ball back in better positions high up the pitch, then we've got a real chance.

"We want to win the league, of course we do. We feel we've been together a few years now, we've brought in world-class players who have had time to settle, we've added a world-class keeper with all of his experience, he's been there and he's done it, he's won everything.

"So we really feel we're in a strong position."

Van Persie: I cannot guarantee Fenerbahce goals

    robin-van-persie-fenerbahce_1gd5zlb6fkcu51ciqeeshe0ya4.jpg

Robin van Persie is refusing to set himself a goal target for new club Fenerbahce, whom he joined for €6.5 million from Manchester United this summer.

The 31-year-old made his debut for the Turkish team on Tuesday as they drew against Shakhtar Donetsk 0-0 on home soil in their Champions League third-round qualification first leg.

Expectations are high that Van Persie can help Fenerbahce topple Galatasaray as Super Lig champions in 2015-16, but the Dutch forward stressed factors other than his own form will affect his goalscoring tally.

"The fans have made me very happy. I was very proud in my first game," he told the club's official television channel. "I couldn't wait for my first game to show my passion for Fenerbahce."I promise to give Fener my all and I hope it all goes well. I can't promise 10, 20 or 30 goals. This depends on the team performance, I can only promise to do the best I can."

Van Persie also referenced his prolific period in the latter half of 2010-11 with Arsenal – when he scored 18 goals in 19 league games – as an example of how he can bounce back from injury in fine form."I scored many goals in those five months at Arsenal after I'd been injured," the Netherlands international added. "Then I started over. Life is not always positive.

"I am never satisfied with what I've accomplished, complacency causes setbacks. I've learned a bit of Turkish. I started to work in my spare time in the classroom."

Official: Jovetic joins Inter on loan

    1088992_heroa.jpg

Manchester City forward Stevan Jovetic has joined Inter on a year-and-a-half loan deal with an obligation to buy outright.

Goal understands that the 25-year-old has joined for a loan fee of £2.1 million with Inter legally obligated to buy the forward for £8.5m in 18 months' time, having claimed the striker has signed a four-year deal.

City will receive a further £2m if Roberto Mancini's side qualify for the Champions League.

"We are pleased to announce the arrival of Jovetic. This is another important player for our team, a dynamic player that will add even more value to our attack," said President Erick Thohir.

"Mancini will get the best out of him. Welcome Stevan and Forza Inter."

Jovetic joined City from Fiorentina in 2013 for £22m but has struggled to secure a regular first-team role under Manuel Pellegrini, making just 28 Premier League appearances in his two seasons at the Etihad Stadium.

The Montenegro international was also dropped from City's Champions League squad in February in order to accommodate January arrival Wilfried Bony.
