:shocked:Furious Messi headbutts Yanga-Mbiwa in Roma friendly

    messi-yanga-barcelona-roma_1008y8l3pt7911gg6266p37hqu.jpg

Lionel Messi was lucky not to receive a red card in Barcelona 's friendly against Roma when he headbutted Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa .

With Barca leading 1-0 through Neymar's strike, the pair began to tangle during the first half in the Joan Gamper Trophy at Camp Nou.

The Argentine attacker has a reputation for keeping a cool head in intense situations, but his temper flashed through when he came face-to-face with the France international.

Messi lashed out at Yanga-Mbiwa with a headbutt before grabbing at his throat.

The referee then separated the pair and gave both a yellow card, though Messi in particular was perhaps lucky not to be dismissed.

Moments later, Messi went on to double his side's lead, finishing off a sound team move to send his side 2-0 up at half time.

    Pogba takes Juventus' No.10 shirt

    paul-pogba-juventus_6jnhqk0iq7le1bw98h4u0ro0f.jpg

Juventus have announced that midfielder Paul Pogba has taken the vacant No.10 shirt for the season.

The number was famously worn by Alessandro Del Piero during his long spell in Turin, while Carlos Tevez inherited the shirt before leaving for Boca Juniors earlier this summer.

Juve have been tipped to buy two No.10's - Schalke attacker Julian Draxler and Bayern Munich's Mario Gotze - but appear to have settled on an internal solution.

Pogba, who previously wore the No.6 shirt, will don his new squad number for the first time in the Supercoppa Italiana clash with Lazio on Saturday.Barcelona made an €80 million bid for Pogba earlier this summer but were rebuffed in their attempt to sign the Frenchman and he now appears ready to stay at the club.

'We're grown men' - De Jong on Guardiola outburst

    pep-guardiola-nigel-de-jong-tunnel-row_1brpuoeyxb1xk12f1drbqd5f24.png

AC Milan midfielder Nigel de Jong has hinted he was less than impressed by Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola's outburst during his side's 3-0 Audi Cup loss earlier this week.

The Dutchman injured Bayern's Joshua Kimmich early in the first half of Milan's visit to the Allianz Arena on Tuesday, much to the dismay of Guardiola.

The Bayern boss began ranting at De Jong inside the tunnel during the break, gesturing wildly towards the defensive midfielder, who had to be refrained from charging towards the coach by his Rossoneri team-mates.

De Jong has so far refused to comment in depth on the incident, but hinted he was less than happy with Guardiola's display of emotion.

"Guardiola's reaction? We are all grown men here," De Jong told ZDF."I do not have any problems with Guardiola, but I have my own opinion about the matter..."

Kimmich eventually avoided serious injury following De Jong's challenge, with Bayern announcing on Wednesday that he will only be out for a couple of days with a thigh problem.

Can: Liverpool want flying start to make up for last season's finish

    emrecan-cropped_rswadpq4j9cu1b6llv7wttqbc.jpg

Liverpool are determined to give their fans something about which to cheer in the opening weeks of the Premier League season after finishing the 2014-15 campaign badly, says Emre Can.

Brendan Rodgers's side only won one of their final six matches last term as they missed out on the top four, eventually finishing in sixth place.

Their campaign was brought to a close with an embarrassing 6-1 drubbing at the hands of Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium, the same venue that they visit on Sunday.

"We didn't end the last season particularly well and I think we owe it to the fans to make amends," Can told Liverpool's official website.

"This is why the first few matches are especially important. I think we can start to put [the Stoke defeat] right with a few good results.

"We've a very very strong team, with a lot of good-quality players who work together well as a team.

"I think, if we can start well and get a few good results under our belt, we can then keep our focus on each match as it comes and hopefully compete for the title."

Captaincy vote a great joy - Mascherano

    javier-mascherano-elche-barcelona-24012015_f81uz5lxz2z1t86kso3k91w3.jpg

Barcelona star Javier Mascherano has spoken of his "great joy" at being named among the club's captains for the new season.

The Argentine has been linked with a move away from Camp Nou this summer, with his agent claiming that he was keen on a move to Serie A this week.

However, Mascherano has now revealed his delight at taking on a more senior role as one of Andres Iniesta's deputies."It's a great joy," he is quoted as saying by Marca.

"It's not easy to reach this at a club like Barcelona, with many players who are identified with the club and the history of the club."I appreciate the confidence but it's not up to the captain to give opinions."

Barca cruised to a 3-0 win over Roma on Wednesday and Mascherano, fresh from Argentina's Copa America campaign, was delighted with his side's performance.

"There was a good level even though there were players who had come from holidays and hand't played yet."

Roberto Martinez: Everton want three new signings

    robertomartinez-cropped_niy5gzzr7z7713gla6ahz0ny9.jpg

Everton manager Roberto Martinez wants to sign three new players to make his side competitive in the Premier League this season.

Gerard Deulofeu and Tom Cleverley have arrived at Goodison Park during the summer but Martinez knows that more new faces are required to give the club a better chance of being involved at the top end of the table.

Everton begin the 2015-16 campaign at home to newly promoted Watford, with Martinez hopeful that Deulofeu can recover from a niggling hamstring problem.

"We have been able to stretch the squad [during pre-season], we know where we are and what we need," the manager told reporters. "We need three players to allow us to be in the shape we want to be.

"Our two new arrivals have hit the ground running so, overall, I am very pleased with the squad.

"But, in order to be competitive, we need three new signings and we will work very hard between now and the deadline to get them. We are looking for the right characters and personalities to help the players we have got here."

Manchester United's Jonny Evans and Tomas Andrade from River Plate have both been linked with moves to Everton ahead of the new campaign and Martinez admits that the latter could well be brought in.

"Hopefully we can agree a loan agreement to allow him to get used to the British game. He is one for the future and would not be in the first-team straight away," added the Spaniard.

Barca can win all six trophies, says Bartomeu

    bartomeu_mgi7lni90ll1zofo2eo2ba8m.jpg

Barcelona chief Josep Maria Bartomeu is confident his side can win all six trophies they will compete for this season. The Catalans became the only club in football history to win the treble twice after winning the Champions League, La Liga and Copa del Rey last term.

The form of Barcelona's star-studded attack, led by Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar was key and they will be bolstered by the arrival of further reinforcements in January.

Once their transfer ban is lifted at the turn of the year, summer signings Arda Turan and Aleix Vidal will be eligible to play and Bartomeu believes Luis Enrique's men will once again set the benchmark in European football.

"We have a very effective and competitive squad," he told Europapress."And Arda and Vidal will be added in January. We're thinking of winning six titles. It won't be easy but we have the squad to believe anything is possible."

Bartomeu went on to say that he is delighted with Barca's efforts in pre-season following their 3-0 win over Roma on Wednesday.

"The image has been very good, not only today but troughout the entire tour. We had a great season and we saw that the team is great."We have big challenges ahead and we need everyone."

Wenger confirms Wilshere out for 'a few weeks' with cracked fibula

    906082_heroa.jpg

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that midfielder Jack Wilshere has a hairline crack in his fibula and will be out for "a few weeks".

The England international, who has a long history of injury troubles and missed five months of last season, took a heavy tackle while in training on Saturday.

He will not have to undergo surgery but will be unavailable for the early stages of the FA Cup holders' new Premier League campaign.

"The information you have heard about Jack Wilshere is right," Wenger told the club’s official website.

"I had a bad surprise because it is a hairline crack in his fibula that makes him a few weeks out.

"There is minimal damage apart from the bone damage - there is no damage at all apart from that. It was a collision in training and it was all completely accidental."

Gotze: I would never criticise Guardiola

    mariogotze-cropped_y9b8p5lggvy1kq6nm667imw2.jpg

Mario Gotze has insisted he would never criticise Pep Guardiola after implying there had been a breakdown in communication with the Bayern Munich boss.In the wake of Bayern's 3-0 win over AC Milan on Tuesday, the Germany attacker said that his coach does not speak to him very often when asked about his future.

However, the former Dortmund star has now claimed that his words were misconstrued and emphasised how he is perfectly happy with life at the Allianz Arena."It was taken a little wrong," he told Kicker. "It was only part of my quote.
"I want to make it clear that I would never publicly criticise someone, certainly not the coach or a player.

"I'm very, very happy here, there is no question. I feel very, very comfortable. The rest remains to be seen."

Don't leave me hanging: Kroos & Bale finally high five

    1728272_heroa.jpg

The comedian Jerry Seinfeld loathed the high five. "Slapping hands is the lowest form of male primate ritual," he once said. "In fact, even some of them have moved on and are doing sign language now."

And, it appeared that Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos agreed with him. After being withdrawn in his side's 1-0 loss to Bayern Munich, he trudged toward the bench and seemingly ignored the outstretched hand of Gareth Bale.

It turned out to be a simple error and the two have posed for a snap on the Welshman's Instagram page, where he joked that the German had "left me hanging for a while".

Allegri: Pogba must prove himself worthy of Juventus No.10

    paul-pogba-juventus_6jnhqk0iq7le1bw98h4u0ro0f.jpg

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri says that the pressure is on Paul Pogba to prove himself worthy of the club's No.10 jersey.

The France international has been a revelation since joining the Bianconeri from Manchester United in 2012, playing an integral role in three successive Serie A title triumphs, as well as last season's run to the final of the Champions League.

However, Pogba has now taken on Juve's No.10 shirt, following Carlos Tevez's return to Boca Juniors, and Allegri says that the 22-year-old must do justice to a jersey previously worn by club legends such as Omar Sivori, Roberto Baggio and Alessandro Del Piero.

"Paul asked to wear No.10," the Bianconeri boss told reporters on Thursday. "In this sense, he will have the greatest responsibility [of all of Juve's players].

"Wearing this number will not be an easy thing because this jersey has been worn by the great players of Juventus."

Meanwhile, Allegri defended himself against allegations that Juve have mismanaged their players during the summer, given Alvaro Morata, Sami Khedira, Giorgio Chiellini and Andrea Barzagli have all suffered muscular injures during pre-season.

"I'm sorry about the injuries to but we are calm about the situation and we hope to have them available again soon," the former AC Milan boss added.

"It was necessary to start work on July 20. We had guys that had only stopped playing in June.

"We're talking about footballers, not machines. I understand your alarm, but I'm the coach and the important thing is to be calm."

Given Khedira, recently arrived from Real Madrid, has been ruled out of action, it has been reported that Juve could look to strengthen in midfield before the close of the summer transfer window, while the Italian champions have not given up hope on signing Schalke attacker Julian Draxler.

However, Allegri says that he is solely interested in Saturday's Supercoppa Italiana showdown with Lazio in Beijing.

"There's no sense in speaking about the market at this time because we're only a few days away from our first appointment of the season," he stated.

"It's a delicate moment for us. Our preparations only started 20 days ago.

"We have prepared well in order to reach and obtain this first objective of the season.

"The important thing is to play a good game, which could last 120 minutes. We're in good physical condition, though."

Benitez refuses to rule out Real Madrid signings

    rafael-benitez-real-madrid-international-champions-cup-2015_i5sen2p79u8u19up6xkv0mjos.jpg

Real Madrid boss Rafa Benitez remains open to the possibility of adding to his squad ahead of the forthcoming season.

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has been heavily linked with the club in recent weeks, but Benitez indicated that he is happy with the goalkeepers he currently has at his disposal.Nevertheless, the former Liverpool and Napoli boss has admitted that, while he possesses a strong crop of players, he is always keen to improve his squad.

"We have a good team, but coaches always want to improve," Benitez told reporters following his side's 1-0 Audi Cup final defeat to Bayern Munich. "The market is open until August 31."Meanwhile, Benitez is unsure whether Karim Benzema will be fit and ready for the start of the club's Liga campaign.

The France international missed the Audi Cup final due to a thigh injury and faces a race against time to be ready for his side's opener against Sporting Gijon on August 23 and it is unclear whether or not he will be fit.

"I do not know," conceded the Madrid boss. "We'll see how it evolves."

Al-Khelaifi: Ibrahimovic & Thiago Motta staying at PSG

    zlatan-ibrahimovic-paris-saint-germain_1c917h6onceot1mtdtzb786k51.jpg

Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has declared that both Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Motta are staying at the club.

The pair have just one year remaining on their respective contracts with the Ligue 1 champions and Ibrahimovic has been heavily linked with a return to AC Milan, while Thiago Motta has publicly expressed his desire to rejoin Atletico Madrid.

However, despite Thursday's arrival of Angel Di Maria from Manchester United for €63 million, Al-Khelaifi insists that there will be no major departures at the Parc des Princes before the close of the summer transfer window."Thiago Motta has one year left on his contract: he will stay," the PSG supremo told reporters in the French capital.

"Ibra also has a one year left. He will stay too."Indeed, Al-Khelaifi believes that with Di Maria now on board, PSG have a team capable of beating any side in Europe.

"We want to win Champions League and Angel Di Maria will be an added asset for the team," he added.

    OFFICIAL: Roma sign Salah

    mohamed-salah-cropped_126rm3odlwyvs1b2rdqxm8bi2f.jpg

Roma have confirmed the signing of Mohamed Salah on loan from Chelsea with a view to a permanent transfer next summer.

The Egypt international spent the second half of last season on loan at Fiorentina, where he made a massive impact, netting nine times in 26 appearances.

The Viola were under the impression that they had agreed a deal with Chelsea that would see Salah remain at the Artemio Franchi for the 2015-16 with the option to buy next year.

However, the attacker's agent claimed that his client was free to return to Stamford Bridge and then decide where to go next, having already been deemed surplus to requirements by Blues boss Jose Mourinho.

As a result, even though Fiorentina threatened legal action, Salah has now moved to the Stadio Olimpico, with capital club paying an initial €5 million for the right to take the 23-year-old on loan.

“I think Roma are one of the biggest clubs in the world and I'm happy to be in this team," he told the Giallorossi's in-house TV channel.

"I think everybody here has ambition and everybody wants to win the title.

"Everybody will give their best to make the fans happy.”

Benzema could bring Premier League title to Arsenal - Henry

    karim-benzema-real-madrid-champions-league_ont9t79hew2d1d7sv9h6pt5ib.jpg

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry believes that landing Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema would make his old side into serious title contenders both in the Premier League and Champions League.

Goal understands that the Gunners remain hopeful of securing the French forward, a long-term target for Arsene Wenger, despite Madrid's protestations that he will not be sold, and are prepared to wait until late in the transfer window.

Though Henry feels that Wenger's men are not far from doing something special, he feels that they need more strength in depth up front alongside Olivier Giroud and sees Benzema as the ideal candidate.

"I always say it's their year but there is a genuine buzz around the place right now," he told talkSPORT.

"I think they can challenge this year for real if they stay injury-free.

"Giroud alone as a striker there – you can't win the league, you need another type of striker.

"I think Giroud is doing really well - he went on to score 14 goals in 18 games, that's amazing - but sometimes you need a different type of striker and I think that, if they can get Benzema, suddenly they are a real title contender and also in the Champions League."

OFFICIAL: Paris Saint-Germain sign Di Maria from Manchester United

    1738442_heroa.jpg

Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed the signing of Angel Di Maria from Manchester United.

The Argentina international has penned a four-year contract with the Ligue 1 champions, just 12 months after arriving at Old Trafford from Real Madrid.

United paid Los Blancos a British-record £59.7 million for Di Maria but, despite making a flying start to his Old Trafford career, the winger fell out of favour with manager Louis van Gaal over the course of the 2014-15 campaign.

After being given an extended summer break following his exertions at this summer's Copa America in Chile, Di Maria ultimately failed to join up with United on their pre-season tour of the United States.

The 27-year-old subsequently travelled to Qatar to undergo a medical with PSG on Tuesday and has now sealed his €63m (£44.3m) switch to the Parc des Princes.

"I am very proud, and can't wait to wear the colours of Paris Saint-Germain," Di Maria told his new club's official website on Thursday.

"I want to win every competition we enter, both in France and Europe. I want to win the Champions League, which is a dream for all footballers, for a second time.

"We will do everything we can to bring Europe's biggest trophy to France and the fans of Paris Saint-Germain."

Meanwhile, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi was understandably delighted at having finally acquired a player that the capital club courted last summer.

"We are very proud that Angel Di Maria has chosen Paris Saint-Germain," he added. "He is an incredibly talented player, with frightening speed and ability to beat opposition players.

"He adds his name to the club's strong South American community and, above all, the big Paris Saint-Germain family.

"By signing Angel Di Maria, Paris Saint-Germain is once again showing the club's constant ambition to reach the summits of the European game."
