I'll return to Real Madrid stronger, insists James

Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez has vowed to return to action stronger after a torn thigh muscle ruled him out for up to a month.

The 24-year-old sustained an injury to his left thigh during Colombia's international friendly against Peru in New Jersey on Tuesday, with national team doctor Carlos Ulloa initially insisting the knock was not serious.

Scans in the Sanitas La Moraleja University Hospital on Thursday revealed the former Monaco man could miss three to four weeks of action, although James has spoken of his optimism over his recovery.

He said: "In my mind is only coming back more strong. Coming back stronger!"

James could miss up to seven fixtures in all competitions for Madrid, including Champions League ties with Shakhtar Donetsk and Malmo, as well as a La Liga derby with Atletico Madrid at the start of October.

Full-back Danilo also returned from the international break with an injury that will rule him out for a month.

De Gea thankful for Manchester United support

    de-gea-cropped_l7tegce9cjm6124mvsrf4sqkt.jpg

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is itching for a return to action after signing a new four-year contract at Old Trafford and has set his sights on maximum points against rivals Liverpool on Saturday.

De Gea, United's Player of the Season for the last two campaigns, was on the verge of a switch to Real Madrid last week, only for the move to fall through in the final moments of the Spanish transfer window.

But the 24-year-old has thanked United's fans for their backing and is aiming to show his gratitude with a strong display against Liverpool in the Premier League should Louis van Gaal choose to start him.

"I feel really well, I would like to say thank you to the fans for their support. They are always behind the team, behind the club, and that’s amazing," De Gea told MUTV.

"It was a different summer, it’s true. But I kept my focus, kept calm and kept doing my hard work. I want to say thank you to my team-mates as well.

"I've trained really hard and I played with my national team, of course, so I feel ready and 100 per cent fit.

"It's a perfect moment to come back at Old Trafford with the fans against Liverpool. It’s a special game for us, for the fans, for the world and, of course, we need to win. We need three points for the fans.

"We are Manchester United – we are going to try to win everything."

Everton 3-1 Chelsea: Naismith hat-trick piles more pressure on Mourinho

    1908802_heroa.jpg

Chelsea's start to the defence of their Premier League title went from bad to worse as they were beaten 3-1 at Goodison Park by a Steven Naismith's hat-trick for Everton.

The Scottish forward broke the deadlock with a header in the 17th minute and followed it up with a second just five minutes later, taking advantage of slack defending from Branislav Ivanovic to bury a low shot past Asmir Begovic.

Jose Mourinho's side got back into the game through Nemanja Matic's thumping 35-yard goal shortly before half-time but could not summon many genuine chances for an equaliser, with failed summer transfer target John Stones leading a fine defensive performance by the Toffees.

And Naismith punished thoughts of a comeback when he completed his treble late in the game, picking up on a through-ball from Ross Barkley before firing home.

It left Mourinho to reflect on a third loss in five Premier League outings this season - the same number that Chelsea suffered in the whole of the last campaign.

Muhamed Besic's return to Martinez's starting XI did not last long as he was forced off with what looked to be a hamstring problem after just nine minutes, with Naismith replacing him.

Naismith did not need long to make an impact. His clever turn gave him the space to pick out Brendan Galloway's run and the 28-year-old burst through the centre of Chelsea's defence to head home the cross in the 17th minute.

The visitors had Begovic - in for the injured Thibaut Courtois - to thank for preventing the home side from doubling their lead immediately afterwards as he produced two superb saves in quick succession, first clawing away Arouna Kone's point-blank header before diving to his right to deny James McCarthy from distance.

But Begovic could do nothing to stop Naismith from adding to his tally as he arrowed a fine left-footed strike into the far corner from 20 yards not long afterwards.

Chelsea then carved out their first real opportunity as Cesar Azpilicueta sprung the offside trap only for Stones to race across to block his effort.

Mourinho's side continued to struggle against an organised Everton defence but Matic got them back into the game with a spectacular 30-yard drive that bent away from the despairing Tim Howard.

Eden Hazard almost levelled before half-time, his shot deflecting narrowly wide after good work from Diego Costa, before John Terry powered a header just over the bar.

The second half began in scrappy style but Romelu Lukaku spurned a good chance to double Everton's lead when he fired straight at Begovic from inside the box, with John Terry perhaps lucky to avoid conceding a free-kick after nudging the ball into the keeper's hands.

Kone stung the hands of Begovic with another effort before Chelsea saw Pedro's penalty appeals waved away a coming-together with Naismith and Lukaku was once again denied by a good Begovic stop.

Costa wasted Chelsea's best chance of an equaliser when he dawdled on the ball inside the area and allowed Phil Jagielka to time his recovery tackle perfectly, with Everton content to play on the counter as the visitors' poured men into attack, with Lukaku again wasting an opening with an overhit cross.

Mourinho threw on Kenedy, Radamel Falcao and Willian in an effort to find an equaliser, but Everton secured their second win of the league season as Naismith latched onto Barkley's clever through-ball before firing low under Begovic to complete his hat-trick with eight minutes left.

Mourinho: I'm a champion, I'm still the man for Chelsea and we will turn it around

    1908812_heroa.jpg

Jose Mourinho insists he remains the right man for Chelsea and is confident he can turn their results around after the Premier League champions slumped to a 3-1 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park.

Steven Naismith scored a hat-trick as Roberto Martinez's side condemned the Blues to their third defeat of the season leaving them with just four points from their opening five games.

However, speaking after the game Mourinho says he is not feeling any pressure, despite a poor start to the season, and believes his team deserve better results than they are currently achieving.

"I'm the man for the job. I'm the man who did so many good things for Chelsea .. I'm the man," he told BT Sport. after the game.

"I'm not feeling under pressure. I'm feeling the results are the worst ever in my career. I don't blame my players, I don't blame myself. I don't accept the result and I am responsible for the team I’m not happy with the situation or myself.

"I am not against the players I don’t have a bad feeling against them. I’m happy that tomorrow I face them again and I will be happy to prepare them for the next game.

"The results are going wrong too wrong for our quality and for our status too wrong for what the players deserve. The players deserve more than the results they are getting – it is easy for people to criticise me and the players and everything is wrong but I disagree completely.

"I am a champion so are the players the way they are playing is not as bad as the results but in every game everything goes against us."

The Chelsea manager also feels his team are still capable of mounting a title challenge but acknowledges that the reigning champions are already dependent on their rivals dropping points.

"Until mathematically it is impossible we are still the champions. I don’t know because we depend on many things including improving ourselves. But when you are many points behind we depend on others," he added.

"I do not feel under pressure – these are the worst results ever in my career they do not reflect my quality or status but I can cope with the situation.

"I will not put more pressure on the players they feel sad and frustrated enough. The first mistake we make Naismith is alone and scores a goal that is a frustration for our players. The last thing they need now is for me to be critical. Let’s wait for better days and better results."

Pardew and Pellegrini involved in touchline bust-up

    1909562_heroa.jpg

Alan Pardew and Manuel Pellegrini were embroiled in an angry touchline confrontation during Crystal Palace's clash with Manchester City at Selhurst Park on Saturday.

The two managers clashed on the touchline after midfielder Yaya Toure was booked for a reckless foul on James McArthur.

An angry Pardew approached the fourth official but was then pushed back by Pellegrini who gestured for him to return to his own technical area.

The two managers have, of course, something of a history, with Pardew forced to apologise to Pellegrini for swearing at the City boss during a 2-0 defeat as Newcastle manager in January 2014.

City had already seen striker Sergio Aguero forced off with injury after heavy challenges from McArthur and Scott Dann.

The Argentina international was replaced after just 25 minutes by new signing Kevin de Bruyne, making his debut for Pellegrini's side after his big-money move from Wolfsburg.

Have Chelsea thrown away the title ALREADY?

    1908742_heroa.jpg

Jose Mourinho has conceded that he isn't sure if Chelsea are capable of getting back in the title race following Saturday's defeat to Everton.

The champions, who cruised to the title in the 2014-15 season, have only won one game in the Premier League from their opening five matches and were well-beaten by the Toffees at Goodison Park as Steven Naismith bagged a hat-trick.

And Mourinho insists that all the luck is currently against his side and that he does not know if the Blues will fight back and retain their Premier League crown. He told reporters: "Everything goes against us.

"We know we are making mistakes and every mistake goes against us. It's the old story for a striker. When things go well he scores with the elbow and knee, when they don't they hit the post and it bounces out.

"We need to win two games in a row and to get smiles on faces. Can Chelsea beat Arsenal? Sure. Can we win the title? I don't know.

"When you play against teams that are winning it's more difficult. I want to play against Everton when Chelsea is winning. When teams are winning against you it's more difficult.

"No [I don't feel pressure]. I think the refugees are under pressure. It's an honour and it's a pleasure every day [to manage Chelsea]."

So what do YOU think? Are Chelsea already out of the title race or, after only five games played, is there plenty of time for them to get back on track and ensure they're in the mix?

Mourinho hits new low as Stones shows Chelsea EXACTLY what they're missing

    1908812_heroa.jpg

Jose Mourinho was unequivocal in his pre-match media briefing: "I'm not going to walk away. The club is not going to sack me." Few believe that the Portuguese would resign but is he really untouchable at Stamford Bridge? His side's early-season form as defending champions suggests not. Undoubtedly, however, he is experiencing the most difficult moment of his career.

Defeat by Everton in another underwhelming performance leaves the title-holders with just four points from their first five matches of the season. Including pre-season friendlies and the Community Shield, they have won on just one of their 10 games since the end of the 2014-15 campaign. In competitive fixtures only, they have won just two and lost five of their last eight, dating back to the close of last season. Mourinho is known for struggling to reach the same heights in his third season at a club than in previous years but this is something else.

Many expected that, after two weeks of being able to clear heads and put right the wrongs of their August wobbles, the Blues would come out fighting at Goodison Park. Instead, they again struggled to pose any real threat going forward while failing to impose themselves defensively.

Mourinho looked to protect a defence who, for a Chelsea side under 'the Special One', have leaked goals this term by deploying John Obi Mikel alongside Nemanja Matic and pushing Cesc Fabregas further forward, theoretically allowing the out-of-sorts Spaniard to have a greater impact in the final third.

But instead of shoring up the defence, it only resulted in confusing things further for the visitors. Mikel is not at the required level for a side looking to win the title while Fabregas looked unsure of where he fitted in alongside Pedro and Eden Hazard.

Mourinho's other selection decision came in defence, where Kurt Zouma was preferred to Gary Cahill while Branislav Ivanovic was retained at right-back. Both decisions backfired.

Zouma failed to track the run of Steven Naismith as the Scot opened the scoring with a bullet header while Ivanovic's tendency to stand off rather than close down the same player saw the former Rangers forward double the lead inside the first quarter of the match.

Nemanja Matic pulled one back with a stunning strike from 30-yards before the break but otherwise Tim Howard was rarely tested, if at all. Hazard and Pedro showed little of their undoubted talents while Diego Costa barely got a kick. The main reason for that: John Stones.

All eyes were always going to be on the England international following the summer of upheaval he suffered with Chelsea looking to flex their financial muscle and bring him to west London. But while the visitors struggled defensively, Stones and Phil Jagielka alongside him again made their claim to be the best central-defensive partnership in the league.

Stones has been singled out for his confidence in possession and, at Goodison Park, he again proved exactly why Mourinho was willing to part with £40 million to sign him. At one point in the first half, the former Barnsley man robbed Pedro inside his own box, peformed a Cruyff turn and laid the ball across his own goal to a team-mate.

It was the kind of clear thinking, authority and conviction which Chelsea are lacking at present, both on and off the pitch. Roberto Martinez again hailed him as a "future England captain" in his post-match press conference and he is not wrong. Everton's 'Rolls Royce' footballer rarely fails to impress, no matter the circumstances.

And while Mourinho may bemoan missing out on a player whom he was clearly keen to sign, he cannot get away from the fact that he has been unable to get the best out of the players who are at his disposal.

The former Real Madrid boss continues to claim that he is the best man for the job and that his team's results are not reflective of their performances but the excuses are beginning to wear thin.
Just over 12 months ago, practically the same Chelsea side ripped apart the Toffees in a 6-3 victory which many felt was the result that marked them out as the potential champions, a suggestion which they confirmed in May.

But now they are a shadow of that team despite being able to call upon Pedro and six of the starters from that game this time around. No key first-team players have left in the time that has passed since that win and Mourinho may feel that his side are having no luck but that is a weak claim when they are so clearly making errors off their own backs.

The home fans sang as Naismith completed his hat-trick that Mourinho was "getting sacked in the morning", which would give him a little more time to breathe than when Carlo Ancelotti was dismissed in a corridor here in 2011.

It is unlikely that Roman Abramovich will act quite as hastily now but, before long, Mourinho's reputation will not be enough to save him. Chelsea and Mourinho are not out of the title race but this is a new low - how he reacts will determine whether or not he remains the Special One.

Hannover 2-4 Borussia Dortmund: Aubameyang at the double to maintain perfect start

    henrikh-mkhitaryan-hannover-96-borussia-dortmund-bundesliga-12092015_1pyswwbdyw4ux1ugsw51mur0y8.jpg

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored twice from the penalty spot as Borussia Dortmund came from behind to win 4-2 at Hannover and maintain their perfect start to the season.

Dortmund had only conceded once in their previous three Bundesliga games this season, but found themselves behind after 18 minutes on Saturday when Artur Sobiech rounded off a superb counter attacking move for the hosts.

Aubameyang equalised with his first spot-kick of the game before Henrikh Mkhitarian's ninth goal of the season - a stunning right-footed effort from the edge of the area - put Dortmund ahead at the break.

But a calamitous attempt at a clearance from Dortmund captain Mats Hummels, making his 200th Bundesliga appearance, allowed Sobiech to steal in and pull Hannover level early in the second half.

However, Hummels' error was out-done at the other end when Felipe, who had already marked his first league appearance of the campaign by giving away the earlier penalty, scuffed into his own net from a drilled cross from Dortmund debutant Adnan Januzaj.

And Aubameyang then converted another penalty late on to ensure Dortmund made it nine wins from nine in all competitions this term as Thomas Tuchel's fantastic start to life in charge at Signal Iduna Park continued.

Shinji Kagawa has been instrumental to Dortmund's superb early-season form, scoring four times and assisting three more in eight games, and he went close early on with a rasping effort from distance, with Ron-Robert Zieler doing well to parry wide.

But the visitors could not make their dominance count, and were soon behind when Hiroshi Kiyotake played through Leon Andreasen and the Dane squared to Sobiech, who duly tapped in.

Dortmund were gifted the opportunity to restore parity when Jonas Hofmann was awarded a penalty in the 35th minute after going down in the box under pressure from Felipe.

Aubameyang made no mistake from the spot, placing a powerful finish high into the centre of the net, and Tuchel’s side wasted little time in taking the lead, as Matthias Ginter latched onto Mkhitaryan's pass before returning to the Armenian, who curled a sumptuous 18-yard strike into the far corner.

Roman Burki had to be alert to prevent Hannover equalising immediately after the restart, the Dortmund goalkeeper pouncing to his left to clamp hold of Marcelo's header.

But Burki could do nothing to prevent Sobiech netting his second of the game moments later when the Pole slotted in calmly after Hummels had completely missed an attempted clearing header.Tuchel then turned to Januzaj, and that change paid dividends in the 67th minute, as the Manchester United loanee's low cross looped in off Felipe, who had slid in to stop Aubameyang nudging home.

Felipe's afternoon got even worse with five minutes remaining when he handled in the area, and Aubameyang stepped up to coolly dink his spot-kick over Zieler and keep Dortmund top of the table.

Bayern Munich 2-1 Augsburg: Lewandowski & Muller rescue win for Guardiola's men

    chilenos-por-el-mundo_1uqgca3j9qc15159zedcp1imu7.jpg

Thomas Muller grabbed a late winner from the penalty spot as Bayern Munich came from behind to edge out Augsburg 2-1 on Saturday.

The defending Bundesliga champions had fallen behind to an Alexander Esswein strike shortly before the interval, but hit back through Robert Lewandowski and Muller.

Augsburg came into the fixture having won two of their last three matches against Bayern, although both of those triumphs came after Pep Guardiola's men had wrapped up the league title. That impressive record enabled the away side to play with a degree of confidence and Esswein's opener set alarm bells ringing.

Bayern pressed for an equaliser, bringing Kingsley Coman on for a first appearance since his deadline-day switch from Juventus, and their persistence paid off when Lewandowski looked to have salvaged a point 13 minutes from time.

But Augsburg's hard work was completely undone in the 90th minute – Muller netting from the spot after Markus Feulner was harshly ruled to have brought down Douglas Costa in the box, preserving Bayern's 100 per cent start to the season.

Mario Gotze was left out of the Bayern squad after picking up a knock, while, with Arjen Robben injured on international duty, Guardiola included Rafinha, pushing Philipp Lahm out wide, and brought Jerome Boateng in for Juan Bernat.

Lacking the creativity of Robben on the wing, Bayern struggled to carve out any clear-cut opportunities in the early stages, with Lewandowski's eighth-minute cross drifting just out of the reach of Muller.Bayern had to wait until the 21st minute to test Marwin Hitz with the Augsburg goalkeeper diving to his right to keep out a close-range header from Thiago.

Despite dominating possession, the hosts posed little threat to the Augsburg goal as the half progressed, and they were punished two minutes from the break when Esswein capped a neat passing move by prodding beyond Manuel Neuer from 18 yards with the outside of his right boot.

Koo Ja-cheol and Raul Bobadilla both had hands in the build-up, with the former eventually providing the assist for an unmarked Esswein to fire home.

David Alaba sent an optimistic effort high and wide as Bayern desperately pushed to restore parity early in the second half, before Thiago scooped a half-volley over from a central position.

Coman was handed his debut as a 55th-minute replacement for Arturo Vidal but, despite predictions from sporting director Matthias Sammer that the teenager would "explode into life" if given the opportunity, he showed few signs of being able to transform Bayern's fortunes.Hitz was equal to a Xabi Alonso free-kick from 25 yards shortly after the hour mark, but he was cruelly beaten by Lewandowski for the leveller.

Lewandowski weaved his way through the Augsburg defence before offloading left to Muller, whose shot from a narrow angle was blocked by Hitz. The ball fell kindly for the Pole and he was left to tap into an open goal.Muller completed the turnaround in the final minute, sparing Bayern's blushes from 12 yards.

Espanyol 0-6 Real Madrid: Record-breaker Ronaldo hits FIVE in thumping win

    1909442_heroa.jpg

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a sensational five goals and became Real Madrid's record goalscorer as his side thrashed Espanyol 6-0 on Saturday.

After notching a first-half hat-trick, the Portuguese star turned home Gareth Bale's cross in the 61st minute to score his fourth and take his tally to 229 goals, moving him past previous record holder Raul on the club's scoring charts before he struck again late on.

Ronaldo has achieved the feat in just 203 appearances for the capital club. To put his scoring record in perspective, Raul's haul of 228 came in 550 games.

Karim Benzema also found the net as Madrid ran riot on their travels, meaning Rafael Benitez's side have now taken seven points from three outings at the start of the new domestic season.

Espanyol, meanwhile, must be sick of the sight of Ronaldo. The forward struck a hat-trick in the corresponding fixture last year and needed just 20 minutes to repeat the feat this time.

After drawing a blank in his side's opening two games this season, Ronaldo ended a barren spell by breaking the deadlock after seven minutes. Luka Modric's pass over the top caught out the Espanyol defence, allowing him to draw out goalkeeper Pau Lopez before slotting into the bottom right corner.

He was then gifted the chance to double both his and Madrid's tally from the spot after Alvaro Vazquez clumsily upended Gareth Bale as he burst into the area. Ronaldo made no mistake from the spot, slotting it into the right corner despite Lopez’s best efforts.

Welshman Bale also had a hand in Ronaldo's third, putting in a sharp cross from the left wing that his team-mate volleyed in with his left foot.

Ronaldo turned from scorer to provider for Madrid's fourth, squaring the ball across the face of goal to present Benzema with an easy tap-in. The Frenchman was only denied a second before the interval by the woodwork, his shot from the edge of the area striking Lopez's right post before rebounding straight back to the keeper.

However, Madrid's fifth eventually arrived just after the hour mark, with Bale once again getting the assist. His low cross from the right with the outside of his left boot allowed Ronaldo to net his record-breaking 229th Liga goal from close range.

He didn't have to wait too long for number 230, either, with substitute Lucas Vazquez, who was playing against his former club, this time providing the pass for Ronaldo to slam a shot beyond the hapless Lopez.

A sixth should have been forthcoming when he was given another sight of goal late on but, for once, Ronaldo failed to hit the target, firing wide with his left foot. Still, it was a rare failure for the 30-year-old on a record-breaking day.
