Ighalo: Watford will push for victory against Manchester United

    odion-ighalo-of-watford_1b87vyglq1dwx1u0vxtugrf9t2.jpg

Odion Ighalo is high on confidence that his side can defeat a depleted Manchester United side in Saturday’s early game at Vicarage Road.

The Nigeria international, 26, has scored seven goals in 12 Premier League appearances so far this season and returns to the Hornets on a high after helping his nation into the third round of World Cup 2018 qualification.

With Louis van Gaal's United blunted in attack due to Anthony Martial's injury and Wayne Rooney's illness and Ighalo is targeting Watford's first win over the Old Trafford side since 1986.

“I’ve been working hard and giving my best, there’s nothing new since I’ve played against Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea,” Ighalo told Goal. “I’m looking forward to the game on Saturday and I just want to go back and relax for a day or two before the game and train.

“Manchester United are a big team, so I’m not going to say I’m a threat. Its teamwork, you know, I cannot play against 11 players alone. My team has been pushing in every game.

“We’re going to push Manchester United and give our best. As a striker I want to score goals and I hope to score on Saturday by God’s grace.“If I don’t score, if we win the game, that’s the most important thing. I’m looking forward to the game and hopefully we’re going to have a good game."

Coming into the Premier League was down to his impressive partnership with captain Troy Deeney, which earned the Hornets 41 goals in the Championship last season.

“Troy and I have been playing together for almost one and a half years now," Ighalo added. "We played together in the Championship, he scored 21 goals and I scored 20 last season.

“We’ve been working together all through pre-season, so it’s been going well, I’m happy about that. He’s a great striker, he’s a great guy, I like playing with him."

Ighalo is among a slew of Africans doing well in the Premier League this season. He was nominated for the Premier League Player of the Month award in September and has had a great impact shifting from the Championship to the top level of the English game.

“It has not been easy transitioning, it’s been hard work and God’s grace. God has been favouring me and I have been putting hard work into it,” he said. “I really worked hard in pre-season and I think I’m enjoying every bit of it now.“It’s not easy playing against big teams, you have to always defend and you have to take every little chance that comes your way.

“We’re underdogs in the Premier League so we have to fight to keep the team up.”
The Hornets have suffered just two defeats in their last nine league games at Vicarage Road, winning four and drawing three. They will hope to continue their impressive run against the Red Devils on Saturday.

Martial reveals his three favourite players

    anthony-martial_1ksz3fx41uhkv1hpd10mbn9ul1.jpg

Manchester United star Anthony Martial has revealed that Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and Zinedine Zidane were his three favourite players during his childhood.

The France international moved to Old Trafford in a £58 million deal in the summer and was immediately compared to compatriot and Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.

But, despite their similarity in style, Martial says it was in fact three other attacking players who inspired him to pursue football as a career.

He told the Daily Mail: "My three favourite players were Ronaldo, the Brazilian, Ronaldinho and (Zinedine) Zidane because they’re players who were beautiful to watch play and they’re ones who made me want to play football."

The 19-year-old made an instant impact at United by scoring a wonderful solo goal in the victory over Liverpool in September and he says that the strike is the best he has scored so far.

"I think the greatest goal I’ve ever scored is the one against Liverpool,' Martial said. 'It was amazing for me and it really made my name in the Manchester team.'

He added: "'The atmosphere at Old Trafford is really unique and when you’re a bit tired, they really help you, they shout out your name and that gives you extra energy. It is also because of them that I’ve adapted easily to Manchester."

The former Monaco man also spoke of his admiration for Pep Guardiola's great Barcelona side, who won the Champions League twice in four years between 2008 and 2012.

"I think the best team I’ve seen play is Barca during Pep Guardiola’s time. I loved their game philosophy. They had great players in every position and it really made you want to play football when you watched them play," he said.

Manchester United need 'overall change', warns Moyes

    david-moyes-cropped_19cuz47bbgq451wnxwvwxolnws.jpg

Former Manchester United manager David Moyes believes wholesale changes are still needed at Old Trafford to put them back among Europe's elite.

Moyes oversaw a disappointing near nine-month reign at United after replacing the legendary Alex Ferguson, and was sacked over a failure to qualify for the Champions League.

Louis van Gaal guided Manchester United to fourth place last term as they returned to Europe's top table, but Moyes believes the job to resurrect United's standing has only just begun.

"Whoever is manager was going to find it difficult. And I think they are going to find it difficult for quite a period to come as well," Moyes told The Sun.

"I don’t think it’s a short-term job to get Manchester United back. I think there needed to be an overall change.

"It's a tough job and I think it's going to continue to be a tough job for a wee while yet."

United currently sit fourth in the Premier League table with 24 points from 12 games, trailing leaders Manchester City and Arsenal by two points.

Luis Enrique: Real Madrid's problems are exaggerated

    luis-enrique-cropped_3bc8cwklj8hv1jr67d0h17xls.jpg

Luis Enrique believes Real Madrid's problems have been exaggerated and insists Saturday's Clasico will not prove decisive in the race for the league title.

Barcelona head to the Santiago Bernabeu with a three-point advantage at the top of the table and with Madrid reportedly in disarray amid speculation senior players are disgruntled with the tactics employed by new boss Rafa Benitez.

But Luis Enrique, who played for both clubs, says suggestions Barcelona can move in to an unassailable lead by beating their rivals are over the top.

"I am not going to defend our eternal rivals but people exaggerate these things," he told reporters on Friday. "This game won't decide the league. It's a big game and we want to beat them."

He added: "We have positive feelings, not just because the game is one we identify as being very special but because of the position we are in.

"We will try to minimise their potential, we know how strong they are in every department. I just want to see my team play to their top level and see if we can beat them.

"We are playing the 12th game of the season. We lost at the Bernabeu last season, won at Camp Nou and won the league. It's an important game for us but, I repeat, whatever happens will not be decisive."

Karim Benzema, Sergio Ramos and James Rodriguez are all fit and available to start for Benitez having been doubts in the lead-up to the game but Luis Enrique says their availability will not alter his game plan.

"We don't tend to plan around who is playing for the opposition, although you have to adapt to certain patterns," he said. "Their line-up will mean we may fine tune things but we go into this game the same way we go into any game."

Madrid suffered a defeat in their last league outing, losing 3-2 at Sevilla on November 8, but Luis Enrique does not believe that will have any impact on Saturday's encounter.

"I don't look too much into the results of the other teams," he said. "Obviously I want our direct rivals to lose all the time. But in between there have been the international games and I don't think the last result has much to do with it.

"Real Madrid are going to go into this game looking as strong as they always do but let's hope we can stand up to it.

"I don't think they are better than we are but I'm the manager of their rivals so I am bound to say that.

"But they are a top quality team and if we don't play well they can beat us. What else do you expect against a team that has the same targets as we do?"

Manchester United fans have made it easy to adapt, says Martial

    anthony-martial-cropped_5glv5x7hf65u16yketw0z7lc1.jpg

Anthony Martial has paid tribute to Manchester United's supporters, revealing they have made it easy to adapt to life at Old Trafford.

The France international, who will miss Saturday's game against Watford with a foot injury, joined the Premier League club in a big-money move from Monaco in September.

Martial has netted five goals for United, including a memorable strike in a home victory over Liverpool on his debut.

"The atmosphere at Old Trafford is really unique and when you are a bit tired, they really help you," the 19-year-old striker told Footlocker.

"They shout out your name and that gives you extra energy. It is also because of them that I have adapted easily to Manchester.

"I think the greatest goal I have ever scored is the one against Liverpool. It was amazing for me and it really made my name in the Manchester team.

"The best thing about playing football is making fans happy. The supporters help us a lot out on the pitch."

Martial also named Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and Zinedine Zidane as his inspirations to take up football and Pep Guardiola's Barcelona side as the best he has seen.

He added: "I have always wanted to be a footballer, I never thought about doing anything else and it is what I have always wanted to do since I was little, so I am very happy.

"My three favourite players were Ronaldo, the Brazilian, Ronaldinho and Zidane because they are players who were beautiful to watch play and they are ones who made me want to play football.

"I think the best team I have seen play is Barca during Pep Guardiola's time. I loved their game philosophy.

Donnarumma can learn from Juventus legend Buffon - Mihajlovic

    gianluigi-donnarumma-cropped_8tp13d42zjpv15d3fk3pjcxpb.jpg

AC Milan boss Sinisa Mihajlovic says teenage sensation Gianluigi Donnarumma can learn a lot from going up against Juventus "legend" Gianluigi Buffon on Saturday.

The 16-year-old Donnarumma recently dethroned Diego Lopez as Rossoneri's No.1 and is set to start the crunch Serie A clash in Turin, with the sixth-placed visitors just two points about the reigning Italian champions in the table.

"Donnarumma will be going up against a legend on Saturday. He can learn from Buffon," Mihajlovic said at a news conference on Friday.

"His greatness comes from his professionalism and enthusiasm. Buffon has been the world's best for the past 20 years.

"Donnarumma is bright and talented. I hope he can have the same career as Buffon. Knowing Buffon, he would be happy to have an heir like him."

After a shaky start under their new coach, Milan have begun to turn their season around thanks to three wins and two draws from their last five league outings.

The Rossoneri are six points off the top three and Mihajlovic knows that a victory at Juventus Stadium would edge the San Siro side ever close to the Champions League places before the winter break.

"We have picked up 11 points and conceded just three goals in the past five matches," Mihajlovic said at a news conference. "Only Napoli and Roma have done better. I am certain we can keep this up.

"Our aim is to finish in the top three positions come the end of the season. Let's wait and see however what position we're in come the half-way point of the season and take it from there. I don't think the result will be decisive. The season ahead is still long.

"It's a prestigious match and it means a lot. It's a classic fixture in Italian football and we will do our all to honour it. Juventus are on the up, but we will give our best to try and win. It's a big match versus a great side and a direct rival.

"We prepare for every match in the best manner possible whether it be versus Juve or any other side.

"We know our strengths and if we play like we know how we can make it hard for anyone. We're fully aware of the dangers Juve pose, but we are going there with everything to play for. We have the abilities to match them."

Hamburg 3-1 Borussia Dortmund: Visitors humiliated in hammering

    2274582_heroa.jpg

An own-goal from Mats Hummels summed up a miserable night for Borussia Dortmund as they slumped to a 3-1 defeat at Hamburg.

Thomas Tuchel's men had the opportunity to reduce the gap with Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich to two points, but were left behind at the races thanks to a dreadful defensive showing.

Pierre-Michel Lasogga opened the scoring with a penalty in the 19th minute after Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Bürki clumsily felled Ivo Ilicevic inside the box.

Hamburg then capitalised on a terrible back-pass, with Lewis Holtby bursting into the box and doubling the hosts' advantage before the break.

Hummels nodded into his own net from a corner to effectively end the tie as a contest, even if Hamburg custodian Rene Adler was instrumental in keeping the visitors at bay with several fine saves.

Bundesliga top-scorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang did pull one back for his side in the closing stages, but it proved too little, too late for the aspiring title challengers.

BVB had come into the game on the back of four straight league victories, but the surprise loss – only their second of the season in the top flight – means Bayern now have the chance to move eight points clear when they play at Schalke on Saturday.

Tuchel made only one change, with Marco Reus returning from injury to replace Gonzalo Castro after kick-off was delayed by 15 minutes to allow for extra security checks, with Germany's friendly against Netherlands having been cancelled on Tuesday.

Hamburg created the first decent opening when Lasogga chested down a cross from the left to set up Ilicevic, who sliced his shot wide badly wide.

Ilicevic had more success soon after, though, winning a 19th-minute penalty. A throughball from Holtby sent the Croatian racing through on goal and he went to ground after colliding with Burki as he tried to round the goalkeeper, who was given a yellow card.Lasogga took the resulting spot-kick and convincingly found the far corner despite Burki diving the right way.

Dortmund had most of the possession but were struggling to carve out clear-cut chances, with Adler pushing away a scuffed Reus effort on one of the few occasions the visitors were able to threaten.

Things got even better for Hamburg four minutes before half-time. A loose pass from Matthias Ginter set up a break for the hosts, with Nicolai Muller patiently holding the ball before playing in an onrushing Holtby at the right moment, with the midfielder doing the rest by calmly slotting his finish into the far corner.

Tuchel made a double change at the interval, with Ginter and Shinji Kagawa being replaced by Castro and Lukasz Piszczek, before Marcel Schmelzer, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang all failed to find the target with decent shooting opportunities early in the second half.

Those misses proved costly when Hummels scored a disastrous own-goal ofter 55 minutes. Under little pressure in the box, the Germany defender headed Holtby's corner down into the ground and could only watch on as it bounced past Burki.A consolation goal arrived for Dortmund when Mkhitaryan linked up nicely with substitute Adnan Januzaj and the on-loan Manchester United playmaker fed Aubameyang, who slotted past Adler.

Adler made excellent saves from Castro and Aubameyang, before the Gabon striker had the ball in the net in stoppage time.

A rasping drive from Piszczek struck the post and Aubameyang converted the rebound, only to be denied by a controversial offside decision.

Tuchel slams Dortmund display after defeat

    thomastuchel-cropped_1j692za4zac481kzw5q3zfevdd.jpg

Thomas Tuchel said Borussia Dortmund's performance deserved to be punished, after losing 3-1 to Hamburg.

Goals from Pierre Lasogga, Lewis Holtby and an own goal from Mats Hummels lifted Hamburg into a commanding position at the Volksparkstadion before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang netted a late consolation on Friday.

Dortmund - five points behind Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich in second position - had won their previous seven matches and a furious head coach Tuchel slammed his team's display in the surprise defeat.

"The first half was dramatically different to how we want to play, what we demand of ourselves," he told Sky Sports Deutschland. "We deserved to be punished.

"We started carelessly. With this body language, this performance, we won't win anything anywhere."

Dortmund full-back Marcel Schmeltzer agreed with his manager's assessment, acknowledging the team did not perform to their typical standard.

"It was a lesson," he said. "If you are not 100 per cent, you can't win in the Bundesliga."

No problem with Klopp over controversial Champions League clash - Pellegrini

    2108642_heroa.jpg

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini says he has no hard feelings towards Jurgen Klopp over the controversial Champions League exit of his former side Malaga at the hands of Borussia Dortmund in 2013.

Klopp's Dortmund side struck twice in stoppage time of the quarter-final second leg clash to win 3-2 on the night and on aggregate, with the dramatic and decisive final goal awarded despite several players, including goalscorer Felipe Santana, being in offside positions.

It was Malaga's only season in the competition to date and Pellegrini had only arrived in Germany on the day of the match after attending his father's funeral in Chile.

Klopp joined in with the wild celebrations of his players both after the goal and at the final whistle, but Pellegrini says he bears no grudge against the German, who will take his Liverpool side to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

“I don’t have a problem with Jurgen Klopp about that game," Pellegrini told the press on Friday. "It was not his mistake.

“It was a very special situation and he had the right to celebrate qualifying for the semi-final.

“It was a very hard moment for our team but that wasn’t any problem between the managers.”
Instead, Pellegrini hinted at resentment against Scottish referee Craig Thomson and the other match officials that evening, saying: “It was the referee’s mistakes and the referee has never whistled again for Uefa."

:frown:Van Gaal: Januzaj may have made mistake joining Dortmund

    adnan-januzaj_mjb2mngw7lmr1c3wph67r6nat.jpg

Louis van Gaal believes Adnan Januzaj may have made a mistake in joining Borussia Dortmund on loan in the summer.

The 20-year-old left Old Trafford on a season-long deal in search of first-team experience with Thomas Tuchel's side, but has so far failed to make an impact or secure a place in the starting XI.

Van Gaal has revealed he wanted the starlet to move temporarily to a smaller Premier League club where he would have less trouble breaking into the starting XI.

“At a club like Borussia Dortmund, all the players are also of a certain level,” the Dutchman told reporters.

“I said in advance that’s a big risk, because you have to compete with other players of a higher level and that’s not so easy.

“It’s the same as at Manchester United. He has to compete with higher-level players. I want him to play all the matches, and that’s why I wanted to play him in the Premier League, but he chose Borussia Dortmund.

“We have to wait and see [if it’s a good move] because now he doesn’t play. I am certain he has the talent to play, but he has to learn a lot of things.

“Talent is important, but so is the character to develop your talent. And he can learn that.”

Januzaj has turned out 14 times in all competitions for Dortmund, but has so far only managed two starts.

Aguero must start against Liverpool, admits Pellegrini

    1917202_heroa.jpg

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini says he has no choice but to start Sergio Aguero against Liverpool on Saturday despite the striker having been on the sidelines for six weeks.

Aguero was stretchered off during Argentina's opening World Cup qualifier with a hamstring injury at the start of October, and has missed City's last seven matches.

And Pellegrini says that while the 27-year-old cannot play 90 minutes, he confirmed he will start against the Reds because Wilfried Bony, the club's only other recognised striker, is currently injured himself.

"Maybe it's difficult for him because [it's] too many days without playing," Pellegrini reflected when asked how Aguero will slot back into the team after a lengthy absence.

"I don't think that he's ready to play 90 minutes, or play two or three games in a week, so it's very important for Sergio to... he must evaluate during the game how many minutes he must play.

"He must start in one game, he must start on Saturday because we don't have Bony so it's important for the team to be with Sergio."

Aguero has suffered similar injury-enforced lay-offs in each of his seasons in the Premier League, and Pellegrini admitted it is hard for any club to prevent their players picking up muscle problems.

"We always try to manage those kind of things but it's very difficult to manage," he said.

"Not only in our team, I think a lot of teams have important players injured for different reasons... because the tempo is too high or because we play too many games, but we always try to manage in the best way."

Earlier on Friday, Pellegrini revealed that David Silva and Vincent Kompany will miss the evening fixture at the Etihad Stadium but hopes both will be available next weekend.

The City boss also caused confusion when he suggested Samir Nasri could be out for four or five months despite the player posting on Instagram this week that he will be out for three months.

"Vincent has a problem in his calf," Pellegrini said. "I hope that next week he will be fit. The calf is a difficult muscle, you never know how much he needs but I hope that next week he will be OK."

On Silva, Pellegrini added: "It’s a long injury, it’s not a muscle injury but the ankle. For different reasons he cannot be 100 per cent fit and if the player is not comfortable I think that he cannot play.

"He’s a player that we need, especially [now] that we don’t have Samir Nasri for four or five months, but I hope that, like Vincent, next week he can be okay."

Pellegrini may well have included the period that Nasri had already missed through injury before he sustained a tendon problem in training this week, as he had not featured since a substitute appearance against Bournemouth in October.

"Samir has a tendon injury in his right leg, so he must now have surgery," he explained. "It's an important injury. It was done in training and I think that he will be a long time out."

Fabian Delph, however, is fit to feature against Liverpool despite leaving England duty with an injury.

"He doesn’t have any problem, he worked the whole week after he returned from the national squad and he’s in the squad list for [Saturday]," said Pellegrini.

Wenger worried about 'jaded' Alexis Sanchez

    2251562_heroa.jpg

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted he is worried about the fitness of Alexis Sanchez and believes the forward is in need of a rest.

Alexis played in both of Chile's World Cup qualifiers during the international break but has not scored since October 17, when he ended a run of 10 goals in six matches for club and country.

Wenger says he is due some time to recharge but joked that the player himself will never tell him if he is feeling tired.

“I am worried because when he went to Chile he was already a bit jaded and we will have to test to see how he is when he gets back,” Wenger told reporters.

“But speaking to the player, if I ask him: ‘Are you tired?’ you can guess the answer.”

The Frenchman's ability to rest Alexis has been complicated by the injuries suffered by Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Aaron Ramsey, none of whom are ready to return on Saturday against West Brom.

“At the moment I am a bit short because with no Chamberlain, no Ramsey, no Walcott, no [Jack] Wilshere, no [Danny] Welbeck, there’s not much offensive positions where I can rotate,” Wenger added.

“Chamberlain had a slight little setback on Monday but we checked by scan and there is nothing wrong. He is still a fraction short for Saturday.

“Ramsey had a deeper hamstring problem than Chamberlain but no setback. He will be back in full training on Monday and can play on Tuesday and Chamberlain I think against Norwich [next weekend].

“Theo is ahead of schedule at the moment and it still is two weeks away.”

De Bruyne: Mourinho stopped me from joining Klopp at Dortmund

    de-bruyne_94vnvzef0iuy16nxdtnvsrb0q.jpg

Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne revealed Jose Mourinho talked him out of a move to sign for Borussia Dortmund while he was still with Chelsea.

Jurgen Klopp had attempted to sign him in the summer of 2013 but the Blues' rejected the overtures of the German side, with Mourinho promising the talented youngster more playing time after he had returned from an excellent loan spell at Werder Bremen.

However, the Belgian failed to break into the Portuguese's first-team plans and was sold to Wolfsburg the following January, where he was named Bundesliga Player of the Year last season before earning a €74 million transfer to Premier League big-spenders Manchester City.

De Bruyne will face Klopp when his Liverpool side visit Etihad Stadium on Saturday, and the 24-year-old has spoken of his admiration for the new Reds' manager.

“I had a personal agreement [with Klopp],” De Bruyne told The Telegraph. “I asked the club [Chelsea] to go because I had a good feeling about Dortmund at the time. I had been good in Germany and he [Klopp] really wanted me because [Mario] Gotze went to Bayern Munich.

"He called me, and said ‘You will be the No 1’ at a team who had been second in the Bundesliga and in the Champions League final.

“At the time I thought it was a good decision to go but the manager [Mourinho] told me ‘You need to stay and you will get your chance here’. I accepted it and we moved on. I think he [Klopp] is a good trainer.
"I saw the way Dortmund played and they [Liverpool] play the same style. He tries to do the same. He is new here, and it will take some time. In the seven years he was there he did a magnificent job.”

De Bruyne added that he does not feel the pressure of his price tag, and is happy that he has been able to make an impact in the rise of Manuel Pellegrini's men to the top of the Premier League.

"In Belgium it [the transfer] was really big," he continued. "They talk a lot about how much I cost and how much I earn – even if they don’t know!

"I expected a lot more to be honest. So that’s good. It doesn’t bother me. In the end football is a big business, there is a lot of money but I’m not the only one. I am in a team with a lot of people who earn a lot of money and who were bought for a lot of money. In the end it is the same.

“If I see someone I think is in a better position than me it is better for me to give the ball. Now I shoot more at goal. When I was young they sometimes said to me, ‘You need to shoot more, you try to give it too much’. It is something that I learned. To try to take the best option.

"You need also to enjoy your time when you are playing football because it goes so quickly. In the end, for me, football is still a game. Even if you are a professional you need to have fun when you are on the field. If you don’t enjoy your job, you don’t have fun.”

:baffled:Van Gaal: I expected more from Memphis

    2096012_heroa.jpg

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has indicated that he expected better performances from Memphis Depay after his arrival from PSV Eindhoven for the 2015-16 season.

Memphis began the season as a first-team regular, starring in the Champions League win over Club Brugge, but has since fallen out of favour at Old Trafford, with Jesse Lingard most recently capitalising on the Duch winger's poor form.

Van Gaal, who was fielding questions ahead of United's clash with Watford on Saturday, suggested that Depay's performances had forced him to look at other options in the squad but challenged the winger to fight back.

Asked whether he had been disappointed by Depay so far this season the United boss said: "Of course, because otherwise he was still in the team.

"Otherwise I don’t look for another solution in my team. I have kept Jesse Lingard and Andreas Pereira for example for that option and now he has to fight back and he does it, so I am satisfied."

After setting Depay a target of getting back into the first-team picture Van Gaal praised the winger's application in training, insisting that there has been no fall-out with the 21-year-old.

"[Depay is] always looking good in training," he said.

"Sometimes they are out of the selection because their competitor is in that moment in a better shape but that doesn’t mean that I have a quarrel with the player."

Klopp: Of course Liverpool can beat Manchester City!

    2168132_heroa.jpg

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp believes his side can beat Manchester City in Saturday's Premier League clash.

Klopp, who took Borussia Dortmund to a win over City in the Champions League in 2012, thinks that he has Manuel Pellegrini's number, despite the gulf in riches between the two clubs.

Speaking ahead of the match with the Premier League leaders, the German coach said: "Yes of course we can play against City; of course we can beat them.

"We beat them with Dortmund and drew in Manchester. They had more money but that’s not what’s important.

"Money is only one part of success. The rest is work.”

Klopp's confidence rests on his time in Germany as manager of Dortmund, where he masterminded two Bundesliga title wins despite not being able to compete financially with Bayern Munich.

The Bavarian side were able to outspend their title rivals each year, picking off Dortmund's best players with the offer for Mario Gotze being confirmed ahead of the 2013 Champions League final between the two, which Bayern went on to win 2-1.

But Klopp insists that the fact his Dortmund side were able to hold their own against the big-spenders is part of the reason he loves football. "Financially, no-one could compete with Bayern Munich, but on the pitch of course we could compete," the Reds' manager added.
“That’s what I love most about football. It’s not important what you spend, it’s not important who you are, it’s only important what you want to do."
