Malmo 0-5 Paris Saint-Germain: Ibrahimovic scores in rout of former club

    2303462_heroa.jpg

Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored on his return to former club Malmo as Paris Saint-Germain ran out 5-0 winners at the Swedbank Stadion.

PSG star and Swedish national hero Ibrahimovic, who began his glittering career at Malmo, netted the third goal of a routine victory for the French champions, who are now guaranteed to finish second behind Real Madrid in Group A.

A double from the impressive Angel Di Maria, as well as Adrien Rabiot's early opener and a stunning late free-kick from Lucas Moura, gave the scoreline a one-sided, but fair look, as PSG outclassed the pool's bottom-placed side.

Malmo's evening was summed up by Markus Rosenberg missing a penalty on the hour with PSG 3-0 up, and the home fans' biggest cheer of the evening was reserved for Ibrahimovic, who received a standing ovation when he was substituted five minutes from time.

The hosts began brightly and Rosenberg was left unmarked to test Kevin Trapp with a header after they forced a corner.

But two minutes later PSG took the wind out of Malmo's sails when Rabiot surged out of midfield and started a move that ended with him nodding Gregory van der Wiel's cross past Johan Wiland.

Di Maria doubled their lead with just under quarter of an hour played, with Blaise Matuidi bending a low cross past a crowd of static Malmo defenders and the Argentinian coolly slotting home from the edge of the box.

Malmo should have pulled one back when Jo Inge Berget embarked on a mazy dribble that left him with only Trapp to beat, but his shot drifted just wide of the post.

PSG forward Edinson Cavani could have put the game beyond doubt when Ibrahimovic played him in, but his shot hit the outside of the post as it went wide.
But within five minutes of the restart, Matuidi gathered a loose pass and played in Ibrahimovic, who raced away unchallenged and scored despite Wiland getting a hand to his shot.

The Sweden captain offered a muted celebration in respect to his boyhood club.

Malmo were gifted the chance to get back into the game on the hour, when a mix up between Marquinhos and Maxwell saw the latter trip Nikola Djurdjic in the penalty area, but Rosenburg's effort from the ensuing spot-kick slammed against the post and bounced clear.

Maxwell made amends for his error moments later, when he received a pass from Di Maria and sent over a cross that sat up perfectly for the former Manchester United man to head home his second goal of the game.

Substitute Lucas scored perhaps the best goal of the evening to wrap the game up, sending a superb free-kick dipping into the net from 25 yards, before Ibrahimovic was given a rousing send-off by all present when Laurent Blanc replaced him with Jean-Kevin Augustin.

Shakhtar Donetsk 3-4 Real Madrid: Los Blancos survive late comeback to edge seven-goal thriller

    2302982_heroa.jpg

Real Madrid clinched top spot in Champions League Group A thanks to an enthralling, Cristiano Ronaldo-inspired 4-3 win over Shakhtar Donetsk.

Ronaldo opened the scoring after 18 minutes, turning Gareth Bale's lob across goal over the line, before teeing up Luka Modric to smash home a second just after half-time.

Shakhtar needed a win and a favour from Malmo against Paris Saint-Germain in order to keep their chances of reaching the knockout rounds alive but a fine third goal from Dani Carvajal appeared to end any hopes of a comeback.

Ronaldo steered in his second and Madrid's fourth after some more good work from Bale to cap an impressive display, though Alex Teixeira got a goal back from the penalty spot, before Dentinho's header and Teixeira's clever finish gave Shakhtar hope.

Madrid saw out a victory to help banish memories of their Clasico thrashing by Barcelona, although the loss of Raphael Varane to injury will come as a blow in what was otherwise a largely encouraging 90 minutes for the under-fire Rafael Benitez.

Subdued in the Clasico, Ronaldo looked determined to make amends and fired over the crossbar as early as the second minute to signal his intentions.

Madrid were comfortably on top and took advantage with 18 minutes played.

Bale raced onto Modric's pass and lofted a square ball over the onrushing Andriy Pyatov to the far post, where Ronaldo arrived to nod the ball over the line despite Yaroslav Rakitskiy's best efforts.

Pyatov reacted well to spurn Ronaldo before the break but Benitez's side looked comfortable with their one-goal lead.
Shakhtar wasted a free-kick in a promising position shortly after the restart and Madrid made them pay with a clinical second goal. Casemiro released Ronaldo with a long ball over the top and the 30-year-old slipped into the path of Modric, who turned a fine finish high past Pyatov from six yards.

Two minutes later, Madrid had their third.

Ronaldo was again involved, cutting in from the right before passing to Carvajal, who forced his way through the challenge of Marcio Azevedo before bending a superb left-footed effort into the far corner from just inside the area.

Shakhtar tried to respond, Olexandr Gladkiy heading wide, and Ronaldo came close a fourth when he flashed a shot high and wide from the right of the box.

Madrid were in cruise control and Ronaldo finally got his second of the game on 70 minutes. Bale burst clear down the left flank and cut the ball back for the former Manchester United man, who saw his first shot blocked by Pyatov only to be given time and space to tap in the rebound.
Remarkably, Shakhtar suddenly hit their stride. Substitute Taison won his side a 77th-minute penalty after his strong run was halted by a trip from behind by Casemiro, allowing Teixeira to drill into the bottom-right corner past Kiko Casilla.

Dentinho then brought Shakhtar back to within two goals when he bundled home unmarked at the far post after Taras Stepanenko flicked on a corner.

Teixeira gave Shakhtar hope of the most unlikely comeback when he turned and slotted the ball cleverly past Casilla into the bottom corner, but the Ukrainian side will now face Malmo on matchday six in a straight fight for third place and a Europa League spot, while Madrid can look ahead safely to the knockouts.

Atletico Madrid 2-0 Galatasaray: Griezmann sends Colchoneros into last-16

    2302542_heroa.jpg

A double from Antoine Griezmann confirmed Atletico Madrid's place in the Champions League last-16, as the Spaniards ended Galatasaray's dream with a 2-0 victory.

A point would have been enough for Diego Simeone's side after Group C rivals Astana and Benfica drew 2-2 earlier in the day, but they made absolutely sure with a fine performance.

The Turkish champions should have taken the lead after 10 minutes but Wesley Sneijder missed from close range, with Griezmann thumping in a header from Gabi's fine cross moments later to open the scoring.

Atleti's dominance was total but Fernando Muslera kept his side in the game with saves from Griezmann and Koke shortly after the break.

Once Gabi set up Griezmann for his fourth goal against Galatasaray this season, a simple tap in from close range midway into the second half, Atletico's passage into the next round was secure, with Gala left to fight Astana for a place in the Europa League.

Led by interim boss Claudio Taffarel, Gala struggled to make a fist of the game, although they ought to have taken an early lead when Sneijder weaved into the area, only to screw wide left-footed.

Gala were immediately made to pay for Sneijder's miss when Griezmann put Atleti into the lead. Gabi was given far too much room on the right wing and his cross was perfect for the France international, who powered a header into the top corner from six yards.

Griezmann, who scored both goals in Atleti's 2-0 win in Istanbul, almost doubled the lead on 15 minutes but his speculative volley from 25 yards was comfortably saved by Muslera.

The 2014 finalists were pushing hard for a second goal and Koke's 20-yard effort fizzed just beyond Muslera's far post, before Diego Godin headed a corner over the bar.

Atletico had only been beaten twice in their last 25 Champions League games at the Vicente Calderon and seconds after the break Griezmann was through on goal to put the result beyond doubt, but Muslera was quick off his line to block the shot.

The goalkeeper was immediately in the thick of the action again, alert to deny Koke from a right-wing cross by Jesus Gamez, before Fernando Torres shot wide from a tight angle.

But the second goal finally arrived after 64 minutes via the same combination.

Galatasaray could not cope with Atleti's swift passing and Gabi squared for Griezmann to tap in from close range, although he appeared to be offside.

It should have been 3-0 but substitute Luciano Vietto shot straight at Muslera after being played in by Torres, who was then himself denied by the impressive Uruguay international goalkeeper.

Atletico travel to Benfica in the final group match to decide who tops Group C.

Borussia Monchengladbach 4-2 Sevilla: Stindl secures Europa League advantage

    2302492_heroa.jpg

Lars Stindl scored twice to inspire Borussia Monchengladbach to a 4-2 victory over Sevilla that puts the German side in pole position to secure a place in the Europa League.

The hosts looked a different proposition to the side beaten 3-0 in the reverse fixture earlier in the season, and took the lead midway through a high-tempo first half when Stindl latched on to Granit Xhaka's teasing ball behind the defence to apply a cool finish.

A Fabian Johnson curled effort and Raffael's late strike put Gladbach 3-0 up after Kevin Gameiro and Yevhen Konoplyanka had spurned good chances for Sevilla, who qualified for this season's Champions League by virtue of retaining the Europa League title.

Vitolo bundled home late on before Stindl's 25-yard strike quickly restored Gladbach's three-goal lead only for Sevilla to reduce the arrears again with Ever Banega's stoppage-time penalty.

A fourth straight Champions League defeat leaves Sevilla bottom of Group D, although Manchester City's defeat to Juventus rendered the result at Borussia-Park meaningless in the race for last-16 qualification.

Sevilla will now have to beat group leaders Juventus in their last game and hope a rejuvenated Gladbach slip up at City if they are to earn the consolation of a place back in the Europa League.

Gladbach, entering this game on the back of a nine-match unbeaten run in all competitions, took just three minutes to test visiting goalkeeper Sergio Rico, who was equal to Raffael's 25-yard drive.

Rico was tested twice more during a confident opening 10 minutes for the hosts, producing a fine reaction save to deny Ibrahima Traore before keeping out Fabian Johnson.

Gameiro forced goalkeeper Yann Sommer into a smart near-post save at the other end, and the striker thought he had given his side the lead only for Vitolo to be penalised for failing to keep the ball in play during the build-up.

The Frenchman was on hand again after 20 minutes to tee up Konoplyanka, whose low effort from eight yards was parried away by Sommer.

Sevilla continued to grow into the game, but found themselves behind nine minutes later when a brilliant run into the area allowed Stindl to meet Xhaka's cross and slot home.

Coke, one of six changes for the visitors, should have restored parity four minutes before half-time, slaloming into the box before firing well wide.

Having already provided an assist on his return to the Gladbach side, Xhaka was nearly celebrating a goal of his own nine minutes after the break, with Rico producing yet another great save to palm away the Swiss international's vicious strike on the edge of the box.

Gameiro and Konoplyanka continued to test the hosts, with the former latching on to the Ukrainian's chip over the defence on 67 minutes before blazing wide.

The visitors were made to pay for their profligacy a minute later, when some fine build-up play allowed Johnson to pick his spot inside the area and curl into the top corner.

Raffael slotted home to add a third 13 minutes from time before Vitolo got on the end of Fernando Llorente's cross, but Stindl was on hand almost straight from the kick-off to fire home a tremendous drive from the edge of the area.

Banega converted a late penalty in the dying minutes after Xhaka had fouled Grzegorz Krychowiak, but Gladbach held on during an otherwise satisfying night for Andre Schubert's men.

:baffled:Van Gaal: Man Utd were average

    2303792_heroa.jpg

Louis van Gaal conceded Manchester United were 'average' in their 0-0 draw against PSV at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

Jesse Lingard missed the best chance of the night in the second half after United were unable to score an early goal.

Van Gaal singled out the England youngster for praise despite his miss, but expected more from his side.

"The result is disappointing because I had the feeling we could have finished it off more in the first half than the second, although in the second half also Lingard could have scored," Van Gaal told reporters. "In the first half Lingard played well.

"We didn't play well. In the first half we were average, and in the second half we didn't improve. Nevertheless, in the second half we gave only one chance away. I am disappointed because now we have to win in Wolfsburg which is a difficult away game. Now our average is better in away games than last year though."

United now need to win away from home against Wolfsburg to guarantee a place in the Champions League last 16, and Van Gaal admitted his side missed a golden opportunity to progress against PSV.

He added: "We are still second, we are still in a qualifying position and we have to do it in Wolfsburg. It would have been much easier if we had done it tonight."

:('Martial not bothered if he misses' - Scholes slams Manchester United striker

    2112432_heroa.jpg

Paul Scholes believes Anthony Martial ‘doesn’t look bothered’ if he misses a chance and has urged Manchester United to sign a goal-scoring striker in January.

United laboured to a goalless draw against PSV on Wednesday evening and missed out on the chance of securing their place in the Champions League knockout phase with a game to spare.

A win for United in their trip to Wolfsburg next month would guarantee their place as Group B winners but Scholes believes Louis van Gaal lacks a true forward in Martial.

“Attacking wise, they just don’t look a threat, they don’t look good enough, they don’t look like they can score goals,” the former United midfielder told BT Sport.

“Martial, for me, he’s still got a lot to prove goalscoring wise, he isn’t a centre-forward where he lives for goals, he likes to play outside of the box, he likes to drift to the left wing, he doesn’t look like he’s bothered if he misses a chance, he doesn’t look bothered if he scores a goal, where as a centre-forward, all you live for is scoring goals. He doesn’t look that type of player to me, and maybe Manchester United need to go into the transfer market for one of them.”

Rafa does it his way - but problems persist for Real Madrid

    2302852_heroa.jpg

It wasn't convincing, but it was enough. Real Madrid returned to winning ways on Wednesday after their calamitous Clasico defeat against Barcelona. Unlike on Saturday, Rafa Benitez did it his way and signs were positive for most of the game, although a late comeback from Shakhtar Donetsk showed the problems persist for the under-fire coach.

After Benitez's first 14 games in charge, Madrid had conceded only three goals and that led some - including sports daily Marca - to describe the side's defence as the best in the club's history. Since then, however, Real have let in 10 goals in three games.

At least they stopped the rot in this one after back-to-back defeats against Sevilla and Barcelona. But Benitez will leave frustrated after what should have been a comprehensive victory was complicated after Madrid saw a 4-0 lead cut to 4-3 late in the game.

Benitez had been under pressure from fans, press and his own players to play more of an attacking line-up ahead of the meeting with Barca, but the team he picked looked more like one everybody else wanted and Barca duly punished Madrid in an extremely one-sided Clasico clash.

Rafa dropped Casemiro for the game against Luis Enrique's side, bringing in both James Rodriguez and Karim Benzema while keeping faith with the disappointing Danilo at right-back.

"That's not a team Rafa would pick," his former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher commented on Sky Sports. "I can’t believe [he did].. either the people above him have got involved, or he's bowed to media pressure, the players, I don’t know.

"You look at that team, to not go in with a holding midfielder, Rafa would normally play two, and his best player this season has been Casemiro, and he left him out. The Benitez I knew at Liverpool - very strong-willed, no one would change him."

A lot has happened since Saturday, of course, and Madrid president Florentino Perez addressed the media on Monday to pledge his support to the former Liverpool, Napoli and Chelsea coach. And the club chief also claimed the 55-year-old has complete control when it comes to picking the team.
Perhaps conscious that his job is now very much on the line, Benitez did it his way against Shakhtar. The Madrid coach made seven changes to his starting XI, with Casemiro and Dani Carvajal back along with Isco, Nacho, Mateo Kovacic and Kiko Casilla.

Rafa had promised rotation ahead of the match, but this looked like much more of a team he would pick. There was more balance, more energy and more determination. And even though Madrid got off to something of a shaky start, they led at half-time thanks to a Cristiano Ronaldo header.

Gareth Bale, excellent in his best position on the left and even contributing defensively, helped set up that one and also the fourth for Ronaldo after 70 minutes. Earlier, the Portuguese had laid off an assist for Luka Modric to smash home a second and Carvajal chipped an exquisite third.

So far, so good. At 4-0 up, Madrid were in complete control. But Shakhtar pulled one back from the penalty spot and added two more in the last seven minutes to leave Real reeling for the third game in a row. Without Keylor Navas in goal and missing the injured Sergio Ramos, this defence is suddenly suspect.

Both Ramos and Navas played against Barca, but neither looked fully fit and nor did Karim Benzema. That was part of the problem for Benitez, but he picked the team and ultimately takes responsibility. Now it seems he realises that if he is to go down, then he must do so on his terms.

"First of all, we won three points, and it was a great job from our players," he said after this match.
"After Saturday's game, we reacted positively, especially in attack by scoring four goals. Now we have to work on our mistakes."

And Carvajal added: "Pehaps we thought the game was sewn up and we relaxed."

Benitez certainly cannot relax at all after Saturday's debacle and he is missing Ramos for the next seven games now, while Raphael Varane limped off injured in this one and is set for a period on the sidelines as well.

So testing times lie ahead. And every match now is a must-win affair for Benitez. But at least Rafa did it his way this time - and he lives to fight for another day.

:(We need to be more ruthless - Rooney

    waynerooney-cropped_1b86nn9nyyq71ufxi1ks3rpjb.jpg

Wayne Rooney believes Manchester United need to be more ruthless after a 0-0 draw with PSV left them on the brink of a Champions League exit.

The stalemate at Old Trafford leaves United needing a win in Wolfsburg next month to be sure of progressing to the knockout phase.

And while Rooney believes the Red Devils are capable of earning the win they are likely to need in Germany, he admitted he and his team-mates need to be more ruthless in front of goal.

"No we're not [out of it]," he told BT Sport. "We need to score more goals as a team and as I said before, first half if we get one goal it's a completely different game. They have to come out and attack a bit more.

"It never happened, and they can sit back and try to hit us on the break which they nearly did a few times.

"It's a learning curve, but we can't keep going on saying it's a learning curve, we have to start turning these games into victories. It was a game we were capable of winning.

"We were good in the first half, and could have been ahead, but showed a lack of composure in the second.

"We're disappointed and going out to Germany will be tough. It always is. But we have to believe in ourselves and have the confidence that we can do that."

Rooney's sentiments were echoed by defender Chris Smalling, who played a part in United's fifth consecutive clean sheet at Old Trafford in all competitions.

"We had more than enough chances to win the game," he said. "We've made it difficult for ourselves in the final game.

"We knew that [Wolfsburg] would be the toughest game so we have given ourselves a lot of hard work.

"We needed to take our chances. If we got the first goal, it would have been a lot easier.

"We've only got ourselves to blame, but we can do it in Wolfsburg. We will go there with hope."

    I lived a dream – Ibrahimovic

    zlatanibrahimovic-cropped_1ca2ltg3ay36k1xsnods7gncmc.jpg

Zlatan Ibrahimovic hailed his great relationship with Malmo supporters after he scored in Paris Saint-Germain's 5-0 thrashing of the club where his storied career began.

The Sweden star, who began his career at Malmo in 1999 before going on to enjoy a career as one of the world's best players, scored PSG's third goal of a one-sided contest at Swedbank Stadion.

Ibrahimovic, who paid for 10,000 Malmo fans to be able to watch the game from a fan park outside the stadium, was given a standing ovation when he was substituted late in the game.

"I lived a dream tonight, coming back," he said.

"On top of that I scored one. I'm very happy. Since the beginning, there's a great relationship between Malmo's fans and me."

PSG coach Laurent Blanc heaped praise on Adrien Rabiot and Angel Di Maria, who scored early on for the visitors, before Ibrahimovic and Lucas Moura added further goals either side of Di Maria grabbing a second.

"In 15 minutes, we were able to adjust the game since we scored two goals," said Blanc.

"At this time, our opponents realised that it would be difficult to thwart our plans. Adrien has great potential, it is still very young but growing tremendously.

"Di Maria is not only skilled with the ball, but he can also score goals."

The result secured PSG's qualification for the last 16 of the Champions League as runners up to Real Madrid in Group A, and Blanc expects a tough draw in the knockout stages.

"When discussing pregame, I said that we were happy about that, but the important thing was to get our qualification for the knockout stages," he added.

"We will see the draw. It will not be easy. Since there will be many Germans and Spaniards, we could face a German or Spanish team.

"The main thing is done. Now everyone is waiting for us in February, March and April. We'll be there, hopefully with the best possible squad."

Pellegrini: Mandzukic goal should have been disallowed

    manuel-pellegrini-juventus-manchester-city-champions-league-25112015_tgvbzsq1w972zh3k1jf41o3u.jpg

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini believes the Mario Mandzukic goal that consigned his team to a 1-0 defeat against Juventus should have been disallowed.

The Croatia striker appeared to pull down Nicolas Otamendi in the City box before converting Alex Sandro's cross to put Juve on the verge of securing top spot in Group D.

Both sides have already qualified for the knockout stage but are battling to go into the draw for the last 16 as a group winner, therefore avoiding the competition's other seeded sides.

"We didn't score the chances that we had," Pellegrini told BT Sport . "They scored the first goal that is a very doubtful play against Otamendi.

"We missed clear chances at the beginning of the game, [such as] Fernandinho on the penalty spot."

He added: "We had the personality to play the same way we do at home and I think that is very important in Europe.

"We don't have the team that we need [due to injuries] but we need to wait until the last game because we can still win the group.

"With all the injuries we have I think this counts as a good performance. I am not happy about the score but I think we made a good game in the condition that we are in at this moment."

Pellegrini's frustration was compounded by the hamstring injury suffered late in the game by Joe Hart, and admitted it could be related to his persistent back problems.

"We'll see, maybe he has a problem with his hamstring," Pellegrini said. "It can be his back that produces that pain. At the moment it is impossible to know what he has so we will see tomorrow."

Van Nistelrooy misses rivalry with 'obsessed' Arsenal

    ruudvannistelrooy-cropped_xlnty2jcnsji1qhglza4burjo.jpg

Ruud van Nistelrooy believes Arsenal were "a little obsessed" with him and Manchester United during his time at Old Trafford, but admits he misses the rivalry.

The former United striker was involved in a number of on-pitch altercations when the two Premier League title rivals clashed, most memorably the melee that followed his last-minute penalty miss at Old Trafford in 2003.

A then-record fine of £175,000 was handed down by the Football Association to Arsenal for failing to control their players and Martin Keown, Lauren, Ray Parlour and Patrick Vieira were suspended in the aftermath of that game.

Addressing the Oxford Union, Van Nistelrooy is quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror: "That game was incredible. It was this unbeaten Arsenal side, a last-minute penalty and I hit the bar. Then it went crazy, loads happened.

"The truth is, I wasn't aware because I was so gutted about missing the penalty. I couldn't care less what they were doing. I was in shock, thinking 'I missed, I missed'.

"Patrick Vieira was sent off, he was waiting in the tunnel but I couldn't care less. I walked past him.

"I barely ever missed. I was in the dressing room and trying to analyse what I did wrong. I took it too quickly. In those big moments, you have to take more care. I didn't settle and focus. I think Arsenal were a little obsessed with United at the time and with me.

"I was never as involved with them as they were with me. There was always big build-up and media talk but on the pitch, I kept my calm usually. I don't have a problem with them. I miss the rivalry of course."

Van Nistelrooy, though, went on to make amends for the penalty miss by scoring in the 2-0 win in October the year after, ending Arsenal's 49-match unbeaten run.

That match also hit the headlines for the wrong reasons following the 'Battle of the Buffet' incident that saw pizza thrown in the tunnel at Old Trafford.

Isco handed two-match ban after Clasico dismissal

Isco has been banned for two matches after his dismissal in Real Madrid's 4-0 Clasico humbling at the hands of Barcelona.

The Spain playmaker came on as a substitute when Madrid were 3-0 down to their arch-rivals on Saturday and was shown a straight red card for a wild kick at Neymar six minutes from time.

The Spanish Football Federation announced on Wednesday that Isco will now serve a two-game suspension, meaning he will miss Madrid's league clashes against Eibar and Getafe.

'Rooney is out of shape and looks awful' - Roy Keane SLAMS the Manchester United captain

    2304132_heroa.jpg

Roy Keane has slammed Wayne Rooney by claiming that the Manchester United captain “looks awful” and has criticised the striker for slapping Wade Barrett during a “nonsense” WWE wrestling event earlier in November.

Keane’s comments came after United’s goalless draw with PSV in the Champions League on Wednesday evening, which means Louis van Gaal’s side still face the prospect of elimination at the group stage.

Rooney has scored just two goals in his last 10 games for United and Keane insists the England captain is not leading by example.

“Wayne [Rooney] was on about lack of composure and quality, but I think he was as guilty as anybody. He needs to step up to the plate,” Keane told ITV.

“You look at Wayne’s legacy at Old Trafford, it’s absolutely fantastic, his goals record is brilliant. But now he’s the captain there’s more responsibility and I think he’s got to do a lot more.

“I always question certain players what are they doing off the field. Last week I saw him slapping a wrestler and I’m thinking: ‘Why is he getting involved in all that nonsense?’ There’s no benefit to him. I’d have a look at that side of it.

“It’s certainly not helping him. I wouldn’t begrudge him going out and enjoying himself, but if you’re not at it yourself you’ve got to have a look and lead by example. He didn’t do that tonight. He doesn’t look sharp, he looks awful

“Mentally he doesn’t look really sharp, physically he doesn’t look in great shape. He needs to have a look at himself.”

Rummenigge on Guardiola future: Coaches come and go

    guardiola_1nfu4r150xbl81nyhateqo2dsg.jpg

Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge says the club are not worried about Pep Guardiola 's future as his contract nears its end.

Guardiola is out of contract at the end of the season and the two-time Champions League-winning coach has been linked with a move to Manchester City.

The 44-year-old has been tight-lipped on his future beyond 2015-16, and while Rummenigge says talks will commence before the end of 2015, he feels the club will eventually have to look to replace him.

"We have always said that there will be a decision in 2015," he told Spiegel. "I know it is late, so close to Christmas. After the Hannover game on December 19, talks will take place and then we will announce the result.

"The speculation goes on and on. There is no man in the world who will not need to be replaced at some point.

"This is normal. Players come, players go. This also applies to coaches. I am relaxed.

"If Guardiola eventually goes, I'm sure we will come back with an excellent coach. We have to wait and see what happens.

"I don't think Guardiola has delayed anything.

"The entire club handles this discussion very relaxed and respectable. The coach handles this respectably.

"I like that we have a little tension at all times. I don't see any problems.

Isco: Madrid must learn from mistakes

    isco-real-madrid-cropped_uz1cfpkmqdhg144vjh2bn8axf.jpg

Isco says that Real Madrid must learn from their mistakes after very nearly blowing a four-goal lead in Wednesday's Champions League win over Shakhtar Donetsk.

Rafael Benitez's men looked set to record a resounding victory in Lviv thanks to two Cristiano Ronaldo goals, as well as strikes from Luka Modric and Dani Carvajal.

However, the visitors went to pieces in the closing stages, allowing Shakhtar to score three times in the space of 11 minutes to set up a surprisingly tense finale.

Madrid ultimately held on to claim the win that sealed their progression to the last 16 as winners of Group A but Isco acknowledged that Rafael Benitez's men have work to do from a defensive and mental perspective.

"We played extremely well, not counting the final few minutes. We got the win and the three points," Isco told the official Madrid website.

"We have to try to correct the mistakes and continue working hard. We need to learn from our mistakes and we hope they will not happen again in the future, because in the Champions League they could end up costing us dearly."

Isco was benched for Madrid's 4-0 loss at home to Liga leaders Barcelona last Saturday before then being sent off - and subsequently banned for two matches - for lashing out at Neymar, after coming on as a second-half substitute.

However, despite his obvious frustration during the derby, the attacking midfielder insists that he is not unsettled at the Santiago Bernabeu.

"The Clasico is a game we all enjoy playing, but the coach decides what the best line-up is for the match," Isco added.

"The result hurt me more than starting on the bench did. I am ambitious, I try to play as often as possible and I am very happy at Real Madrid. There are a lot of games and it is a long season."
