'Emotional' Ribery back in Bayern training

    franck-ribery-cropped_6pjmacxow1qo1fph575hp8xuw.jpg

Franck Ribery admits it was "very emotional" to make his long-awaited return to Bayern Munich team training on Wednesday.

The 32-year-old took part in team drills, sprint exercises and shooting practice after spending nine months on the sidelines with a persistent ankle problem sustained against Shakhtar Donetsk in March.

"It's a great day for me, very emotional," he told FCBTV.

"It was my first really long injury, it was a serious situation for me. But that's football, that's life.

"It's important that you keep your head up and work hard. Now I'm back in the team. It's a good feeling.

"The whole team was happy for me. It was fun."
Ribery had initially set a target of December 12 to make his return to first-team action, when Ingolstadt visit the Allianz Arena.

Bayern chief executive officer Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said earlier this week that Ribery's "ordeal was over" and that the club had full confidence he was on track to return on schedule.

Ibrahimovic Serie A return unlikely - Raiola

    zlatan-ibrahimovic-psg_z4rxfa80qz541mq9mcvns9hur.jpg

Zlatan Ibrahimovic's agent says he can "almost rule out" a possible return to Serie A for the Paris Saint-Germain striker.

Mino Raiola stated only last week that a potential reunion with AC Milan could still be on the cards should Ibrahimovic leave Parc des Princes when his contract expires in June.

However, Raiola has now stated it is highly unlikely the 34-year-old will head back to Italy's top flight, and even suggested a renewal with the Ligue 1 champions was not out of the question.

"There are clear arrangements with PSG and Ibra, we'll see how things go. I think I can almost rule out, at this time, his return to Italy as a player," he told Radio Sportiva .

"There are many theories. There are agreements and first we want to respect those agreements. Then we'll see."

Raiola went on to back Mario Balotelli to recover well from his latest injury setback and claims the Italy international still hopes to "realise a dream" of playing for Real Madrid in future.

"He's different from a year and a half ago," Raiola said.
"He's started very well and had the misfortune of the operation. Now we just hope he can get back onto the pitch as soon as possible. He's very calm.

"It's logical for every great player to dream of playing for Real. Who wouldn't? Let's hope he can realise his dream one day."

Raiola also hailed rising Milan star Gianluigi Donnarumma, adding: "He could become a work of art, he has all the qualities to become that. He has an extraordinary talent and approach to his.

Aguero hints at Man City exit: I won't sign a new deal

    sergio-aguero-cropped_12rd80rkfabb61a08p3ujexzse.jpg

Sergio Aguero has revealed that he intends to leave Manchester City for Independiente once his contract with the Premier League side expires in 2019.

The 27-year-old started his professional career with Independiente before leaving his boyhood club for Atletico Madrid in 2006.

He has not forgotten about Independiente, though, and aims to end his career at the club where it all started for him.

"I have always said that I want to return to Independiente and I will do just that," the Argentina international told So Foot.

"I will return to Independiente when my contract with City expires.

"I do not want to make my comeback when I am too old. If everything goes well, I will return to the club of my heart at the age of 31."

Aguero became the youngest player to debut in Argentina's Primera Division during his time at Independiente at 15 years and 35 days.

He made over 50 appearances for the club between 2003 and 2006.

Gundogan still unsure over Borussia Dortmund future

    ilkay-gundogan-cropped_1x745fc5vde7z17zu8d9xrguom.jpg

Ilkay Gundogan has admitted that he has yet to make a final decision about his future at Borussia Dortmund amid ongoing speculation linking him with a move away from the Bundesliga side.

The 25-year-old appeared to be on his way out of Dortmund earlier this year after the club announced contract talks had broken down.

Gundogan eventually signed a new deal until June 2017, though, as he opted to stay at Signal Iduna Park for at least another season.

The midfielder is once more being linked with a transfer, but he is unsure whether he wants to leave.

"There are no new developments as of yet. I am feeling very well at BVB and I know what I have at this club," Gundogan told Sport Bild.

"I know that I will have to deal with the matter of my future at some point and that people expect me to make a decision.

"I want to deal with this situation in a respectful way and will sit down with the Dortmund management first and make a decision.
"But I do not know when that moment will be yet.

"I believe everybody here at Dortmund wants to be back in the Champions League next season and anything else would be a major disappointment.

"But that does not mean that I will definitely leave if we don't qualify. I'm not that kind of person. I would already have left last summer had that been one of the criteria for me."

Ferguson backs Neville for Valencia success

    alex-ferguson-gary-neville-cropped_fion9g8hr0ty1h7jegk9jd8og.jpg

Gary Neville has been backed to enjoy a successful spell as head coach of Valencia by former Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson.

The ex-United defender, who made 602 appearances for the club under the stewardship of the iconic Ferguson, was confirmed as Nuno Espirito Santo's successor on Wednesday on a deal which runs until the end of the season.

Ferguson, who appointed Neville club captain at Old Trafford after Roy Keane's departure in 2005, says the England assistant's bold approach should make him a shrewd leader.

"Gary has many attributes that suggest he will be successful in management. His leadership skills are strong, he's honest and he's hard working," Ferguson told Sky Sports.

"He is the type of character who is not afraid of making big decisions, which is a vital skill when leading. I think he'll do well and I wish him, and his brother Phil [current Valencia assistant coach], good luck."

Neville is due to take charge of the first team on Sunday December 6, a day after the Liga clash with champions Barcelona.

Barcelona 6-1 Villanovense: Sandro leads rout for Blaugrana reserves

    2337582_heroa.jpg

The depth of quality in Barcelona's squad was on display at Camp Nou, as an alternative Blaugrana side powered past Villanovense to take a 6-1 win in the Copa del Rey second leg.

Sandro Ramirez was the star of the show in a much-changed starting XI, as he scored a hat-trick to lead Luis Enrique's men into the next round.

The holders were held to a shock goalless draw in October's first leg and Luis Enrique named Luis Suarez, Neymar and Andres Iniesta on the bench in case of another dogged display from the visitors.

A thunderbolt from Dani Alves with just four minutes played allayed concerns over an upset, however, before Sandro capitalised on a dreadful Villanovense error to make it 2-0.

Juanfran scored a fine strike on a rare Villanovense break to halve the deficit after 29 minutes, but Sandro's second two minutes later killed any hopes of a comeback before half-time, before Munir El Haddadi's header early in the second half made it 4-1.

Sandro clinched his hat-trick in emphatic style midway through the second half and set up Munir for the sixth with a brilliant backheel away from goalkeeper Jose Fuentes, leaving Camp Nou delighted with the efforts of Barca's younger stars.

Barca wasted little time in taking control of the game, with Alves striding forward before blasting a shot from 30 yards out that swerved in the air before rippling the back of the net, despite Fuentes getting a hand to the ball.

Sandro was then gifted his first of the evening after 21 minutes when Fuentes passed the ball straight to the feet of the 20-year-old inside the box, and he took a touch before curling a fine finish into the far top corner.

Barca were given a shock on the half-hour mark when Juanfran collected a loose ball 25 yards out before rasping a shot into the far corner of Jordi Masip's goal, but hopes of a comeback were promptly extinguished.

Aitor Cantalapiedra, who made his debut in the first leg, slid a fine through-ball to Sandro, who drilled low beneath Fuentes from 12 yards after bursting into the box.

Barca grabbed their fourth just six minutes after the break, Jeremy Mathieu planting a cross from the left onto the head of the onrushing Munir, who nodded in low at the near post.

Juanfran headed over the bar following a looping Pablo Moraga cross as the visitors tried to breathe life into the contest, but Sandro promptly secured his hat-trick with 21 minutes to play after another fine Barca attack.

Adriano and Sergi Samper combined down the right and the latter's drilled cross was cleared only as far as the forward, who took a touch before drilling high into the net past Fuentes from close range.

Sandro turned provider on 76 minutes as he raced in behind a static back four before backheeling the ball superbly away from Fuentes, allowed Munir to slot confidently into the far corner from the right of the box, and the home side cruised through the closing stages to seal their place in the next round.

Pogba won't leave Juventus in January - Raiola

    paulpogba-cropped_rmt04nv3yg561rzb8sp8gk4fm.jpg

Paul Pogba's agent Mino Raiola has insisted his client has no intention of leaving Juventus in the January transfer window.

France star Pogba has a contract with the Serie A champions until June 2019, but is continually being linked with a move elsewhere, with clubs such as Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester City all believed to be interested.

Barca saw a bid for the midfielder rejected in the summer but are expected to look to snap him up again, but Raiola has made it clear a move will not materialise in the upcoming transfer window as Pogba wants to stay put until at least the end of the season.

"He will not be going anywhere in January," Raiola told Radio Sportiva.

"He has expressed his desire to end this season at Juventus. Plus great players rarely switch clubs in the January window.

"A transfer at the end of the season? June is still far away."

Southampton 1-6 Liverpool: Origi hits hat-trick as Reds run riot

    2338252_heroa.jpg

Divock Origi scored a hat-trick and Daniel Sturridge netted two goals on his first start after injury as Liverpool demolished Southampton 6-1 to reach the League Cup semi-finals.

Ronald Koeman's team started in sensational fashion at St Mary's Stadium, with Sadio Mane heading them into a first-minute lead, and the visitors' listless reaction offered little indication of the thrashing to come.

All that changed when Sturridge, making his first start since the Merseyside derby in October that brought Brendan Rodgers' Anfield reign to its end, fired them level after 25 minutes.

Sturridge soon added a second courtesy of a brilliant assist from Emre Can and Origi turned in an Alberto Moreno shot in the final minute of the half to conclude a devastating three-goal spell.

If there was a touch of fortune about Origi's first, his second arrived in more emphatic fashion – crashing home from the right-hand side of the area via the inside of the crossbar – and substitute Jordon Ibe got in on the act before the Belgian striker nodded in to claim the matchball in the 86th minute.

It left the home faithful in markedly different spirits to when they led after 39 seconds thanks to Mane stealing in front of Moreno to bury Ryan Bertrand's excellent cross.

Southampton continued to have joy down the Liverpool right and Adam Bogdan kept out Victor Wanyama's header from Dusan Tadic's fifth-minute centre.

Liverpool's young right-back Connor Randall was the man under fire and he collected an early booking for pulling back Tadic and Steven Davis curled the resulting free-kick over the bar.

Klopp's side were struggling to establish themselves as an attacking force midway through the half, but Sturridge turned the contest on its head with two goals in the space of four minutes.

The England striker raced on to Joe Allen's lofted throughball, made light of a loose first touch by skipping past Steven Caulker with a stepover and drilled a left-footed finish beyond Maarten Stekelenburg.
A sumptuous piece of play from Can crafted Sturridge's second. The Germany international created space with a cute turn and curled a pass over the Southampton defence with the outside of his right foot for the forward to net clinically on the half-volley.

There was further misery for a stunned Southampton as Moreno's drive from a partially cleared corner received a faint touch from Origi as it fizzed past Stekelenburg.

Graziano Pelle, back in the Southampton side following suspension, drew a 50th-minute save from Bogdan under pressure from Martin Skrtel before St Mary's old boy Dejan Lovren blocked a shot from the continually lively Mane.

Sturridge departed to a rapturous ovation from the away end when Ibe took his place in the 59th minute, while Southampton substitute Shane Long almost made an instant impact by glancing a header wide.

But Southampton's lingering hopes of a comeback were extinguished in the 68th minute, with Origi latching on to Ibe's slide-rule pass to leave Stekelenburg with no chance.

Ibe showed similar precision in the 73rd minute, chesting down Moreno's cross to find a low finish and Origi converted Brad Smith's centre to seal Liverpool's place in the semi-finals of a competition they last won in 2012.

Man City draw Everton in League Cup semi-final

    2333812_heroa.jpg

Everton have drawn Manchester City in the League Cup semi-final, with Stoke City facing Liverpool in the other tie.

The Toffees beat Middlesbrough on Tuesday to book their place in the last four, with Manuel Pellegrini's side overcoming Hull City 4-1 on the same night.

Stoke's reward for defeating Sheffield Wednesday, meanwhile, is a two-legged encounter with Liverpool, who thrased Southampton on Wednesday.

The first legs will be played in the week commencing January 4, with the return matches scheduled for the week starting January 25.

:shocked:Cadiz 1-3 Real Madrid: Visitors win but may face disqualification

    2338562_heroa.jpg

Controversy over the selection of Denis Cheryshev marred Real Madrid's 3-1 victory over Cadiz in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday.

Madrid's status in the competition could be under threat after under-fire head coach Rafael Benitez started the Russian, despite him being due to serve a ban for receiving three bookings in last season's competition.

It was Cheryshev who opened the scoring early in the match, before he was replaced almost immediately after half-time as confusion reigned over whether he was allowed to play, while Cadiz officials confirming they will meet after the match to discuss their next move.

Two goals from Isco in the second half sealed a comfortable first-leg away victory in the round of 32 for Madrid, before Kike Marquez scored a late consolation, but all eyes will now be on the aftermath and any potential verdict against Benitez's men.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Danilo and Keylor Navas were all rested for Madrid, while Marcelo, Dani Carvajal and Sergio Ramos were all ruled out with injury.

Madrid had the lead within three minutes. A brilliant lofted pass from James Rodriguez found Cheryshev, who beat the hosts' offside trap, took one touch and drove a low left-footed shot into the bottom corner.

Cadiz, who sit third in Segunda Division B, made a decent initial response as Lolo Pla headed wide, before Salvi set up an excellent chance for Wilson Cuero with an impressive run and reverse pass, only for the striker to be denied as Kiko Casilla saved with his legs.

Lolo was narrowly off target with another effort, while James shot just wide at the other end after creating the opportunity for himself with a neat turn in a crowded penalty area.

Lucas Vazquez hit the side netting after a neat one-two with Jese Rodriguez as the visitors reached half-time with a one-goal advantage.
After Cheryshev was substituted within a minute of the restart, Jese and James both had efforts saved early in the second half.

The victory was sealed 25 minutes from time when Isco did well to chest down a long pass from Casemiro and slot a right-footed finish past Pol Balleste.

And Isco got his second and Madrid's third eight minutes later. The playmaker cut inside on to his right foot after collecting James' pinpoint pass and a combination of Balleste's one-handed save and a half-hearted effort from recovering defender Josete on the line failed to keep it out.

Cadiz almost got a goal back when Dani Guiza curled a shot just wide after seizing on a defensive error before they did strike with a consolation on 88 minutes.

Pepe only half-cleared a cross from the right into the path of Marquez, whose bouncing shot beat Casilla as both sides move to awaiting developments on Cheryshev.

Benitez: Real Madrid 'had no idea' Cheryshev was ineligible

    denis-cheryshev_1bdx2pn0very31a5mfdnkdpnv3.jpg

Real Madrid head coach Rafael Benitez claims he was completely unaware of Denis Cheryshev's reported ineligibility against Cadiz during Wednesday's 3-1 Copa del Rey win.

The Russian fired his club into the lead after just three minutes, but it later emerged that he was suspended for the clash having previously accrued three yellow cards.

Benitez, however, insisted that Madrid did not know about the issue.

"The club had no idea," he told reporters after the game.

"The Federation did not let us know and as soon as we found out we substituted him. Villarreal and the Federation did not reveal this.

"That is why he took him off straight way, we found out at half time when we were informed.

"We acted in good faith, as soon as we found out we took him off."

Pressed for further answers on the debacle, Benitez tried to steer the conversation towards the match action.

"I have already answered, we did everything we could at this time," he affirmed.

"I would like to congratulate my players again for what they did on the pitch."

The infringement could lead to Madrid's expulsion from the competition, after Cadiz confirmed they would make an official complaint.

Origi pleased to show class with treble

    divockorigi-cropped_8rgn8gg09v141jp841isqq25o.jpg

Divock Origi was delighted to give Liverpool fans an ample demonstration of his talents with a hat-trick in the 6-1 League Cup demolition of Southampton.

The Belgium international, who had failed to find the net in his first 10 appearances for the Anfield club, turned home Alberto Moreno's shot on the stroke of half-time at St Mary's after Daniel Sturridge's brace had wiped out Sadio Mane's first-minute opener.

Origi then clattered in an emphatic second via the underside of the crossbar midway though the second half, before he completed his treble with a header late on.

"We qualified for the semi-finals and the team performance was very strong," the 20-year-old told Sky Sports."Coming in as a young boy in England is never easy but here I've been able to show my quality.

"I already did this last year but I think I have worked very hard and I had the support of everybody."I think [the game] was difficult. We didn't have the best start but we showed a great mentality as a team. Daniel scored two goals of great quality."

Origi was speaking to reporters without the match ball in his possession and he conceded that he had to chase up the match officials for the customary hat-trick souvenir."I think they took it with them after the game so I'm going to ask the referee," he added.

Ex-Southampton midfielder Adam Lallana experienced a frosty reception on his latest return to the south coast and was concerned by Liverpool's sluggish opening.
"That [a 6-1 win] would have been difficult to believe," he told Sky Sports. "We started sloppily, but showed great character.

"'Studge [Sturridge] showed what he is about and credit to Divock as well. We have strength in depth if you look at the bench."

Lallana paid tribute to manager Jurgen Klopp for Liverpool's form over recent weeks, with the Southampton win coming less than a fortnight after Manchester City were beaten in similarly devastating fashion."We want to keep the momentum we have gained," he added. "It is not a miracle what he [Klopp] has done, he has come in and put his ethos into the squad."We know we still have some way to go."

Isco: Madrid must not be expelled for the good of football

    isco-cropped_1av5qld01yj9r1f01me5nep1hy.jpg

Isco hopes Real Madrid will not be kicked out of the Copa del Rey "for the good of football" after coach Rafael Benitez fielded Denis Cheryshev for Wednesday's match against Cadiz, despite the midfielder being ineligible through suspension.

Cheryshev, scorer of the opening goal in the 3-1 win on Wednesday, was suspended for the cup clash due to picking up three yellow cards while playing for Villarreal in last season's competition.

However, the Russian was included in the starting XI at Estadio Ramon de Carranza, eventually being replaced 45 seconds into the second half.

And playmaker Isco remained optimistic Los Blancos would not face expulsion from the competition, insisting it is in the best interests of the game to allow them to stay in it.

"I hope, for the good of football, we will play a second leg," the 23-year-old told Canal+. "It was a good match against a strong team.

"I heard of Cheryshev's ineligibility in the second half. This is the directors' responsibility, so they have to deal with it. We did our job to win."

A precedent has already been set for this case, with Osasuna thrown out of this year's competition for fielding an ineligible player against Mirandes, and Cadiz president Manuel Vizcaino has confirmed the Segunda B club will report Real Madrid to the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).

:yes:Klopp: Liverpool can challenge for silverware

    jurgenklopp-cropped_1nhajhp36vz541uqbotncy1o4h.jpg

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp insisted his side's League Cup quarter-final thrashing of Southampton was down to their work ethic rather than "magic ideas" and believes his team can challenge for silverware.

Daniel Sturridge scored twice to cancel out Sadio Mane's goal in the opening minute and a Divock Origi hat-trick, plus another goal from Jordon Ibe, sealed a 6-1 victory.

Liverpool will face Stoke City in the semi-finals and have now won seven of their last 11 under Klopp, who replaced Brendan Rodgers in the dugout in October.

"We do not have magic ideas," the German told Sky Sports. "It's about working hard. You cannot be in Liverpool because of the weather, so it must be because of the football club.

"We need luck with injuries but the squad is strong enough for us to be challengers.

"At the moment, we don't have to be any more than that. If you shoot the ball between the posts, it's better than when you don't do it."

Sturridge was making his first start since October 4 and Klopp admitted he would have to continue to manage the injury-hit England striker's minutes.

"This isn't the first time we've talked about this [Sturridge's fitness]," he added. "We try to do what we can to keep him fit.

"Sometimes it can be bad luck, even for a long period, but he felt good during the game and at the end of it.

"He doesn't have to play in all the games, but if we can decide when is the right moment to fight, and when is the right moment for recovery, everything should be okay."

Pepe only half-cleared a cross from the right into the path of Marquez, whose bouncing shot beat Casilla as both sides move to awaiting developments on Cheryshev.

    Stupid Benitez

:cool:De Gea reveals favourite save for Man United

    2340622_heroa.jpg

David De Gea has named his stunning last-gasp save from a Juan Mata free kick in 2012 as his favourite of his Manchester United career so far.

When asked by United's official website, he replied: "The one from Juan against Chelsea - the save from the free kick [in February 2012]."

Chelsea ran into a three-goal lead on 50 minutes, only for two Wayne Rooney penalties and a Javier Hernandez equaliser six minutes from time saw United complete a stirring fightback.

However, Sir Alex Ferguson & Co. had De Gea on hand to confirm the well-earned draw with a fingertip save from a Mata free kick in the dying seconds.

De Gea has spoken previously about the save at Stamford Bridge, adding in 2014: “This save really helped me at the time. I think this is my best for United so far. It was even better because it was against Juan!"

Following the save, De Gea credited his last-minute heroics as a turning point for his career at Old Trafford having lost his first-team place to second-choice keeper Anders Lindegaard at points during his debut term.

The Spaniard went on to play the final 19 games of United's season after the 3-3 draw, keeping eight clean sheets before further establishing himself the next campaign.

Allegri plays down Manchester United links

    2335172_heroa.jpg

Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri has played down reports linking him with the Manchester United job and insists he is happy in Turin.

The former Milan boss, who led Juve to a league and cup double last season, is the latest coach to be named as a possible replacement for Louis van Gaal.

However, the 48-year-old told reporters he is not looking to move on.

"I'm focused on objectives, which is more important than rumours," he said.

"I have a contract here until 2017 and I am very happy to coach Juventus.

"I remain fully focused on achieving the very important targets that we have here."

"Next month it will be the January [transfer window] and you will be moving players [not managers] from one place to another - we are just thinking about what we have to do this year.”

After a slow start to the campaign, last season’s Champions League runners-up have slowly began to move up the Serie A table.

Going into this weekend’s fixtures, they sit fifth, seven points behind leaders Napoli.

"It will be a complicated and difficult match," Allegri added ahead of Friday’s clash with Lazio.

"Against Empoli, they did not deserve to lose the game and against Palermo they played well, so it’s going to be tough.

"They are out for revenge because of Shanghai and the Coppa Italia, while we can’t afford a slip up in the league because of the situation we’re in.”

Official: Cadiz confirm complaint against Real Madrid and Cheryshev

Cadiz have confirmed they are taking the matter of Denis Cheryshev's ineligibility in Wednesday's Copa del Rey tie to the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).

Real Madrid won the first leg of the last-32 tie 3-1, with Cheryshev opening the scoring, but reports broke during the match that the Russian forward should have been serving a one-match suspension after collecting three bookings while on loan at Villarreal last season.
Cadiz president Manuel Vizcaino suggested in the immediate aftermath of the match at the Estadio Ramon de Carranza that they would ask the RFEF to take action, and that has been confirmed in a statement on Thursday morning.

The statement read: "Cadiz CF have presented in the last few hours before the RFEF, a written complaint of alleged proper alignment of the football player Denis Cheryshev, as agreed unanimously at an extraordinary meeting of the board of directors.

"This morning we have received communication from the RFEF that the letter has been received and they have given a deadline to Real Madrid to present the arguments they deem appropriate.

"The club reiterates its utmost respect for Real Madrid and will not make any further statements until there is an announcement from the Competition Committee, who will dictate the magnitude of what happened."
