Hazard decided to take himself off - Mourinho

    2403952_heroa.jpg

Jose Mourinho says Eden Hazard made the decision to take himself off during the first half of Chelsea's Pemier League defeat at Leicester City on Monday.

The Belgium international fell to the ground following a challenge from Jamie Vardy clutching his hip and required both of Chelsea's physiotherapists to help him get to his feet.

Hazard then went to the touchline to speak with Jose Mourinho and indicated that he was unable to continue.

However, prior to Pedro coming on as a substitute, Hazard re-entered the pitch to try to receive a pass, but was unable to get to the ball in front of his manager. He then immediately turned around and limped back off the pitch and down the tunnel towards the dressing room.

"In 10 seconds [Hazard] made the decision himself," Mourinho explained in his post-game interview with Sky Sports.

"[The injury] must be something important. His first reaction was ‘I can’t’ and his second reaction was ‘I want to try’, then he goes on the pitch and he couldn’t do it.
"In three different seconds he had different perspectives, so that’s it. He’s injured, definitely. In the game I don’t know [how serious it is], but now I can have time to understand what the injury is.

Hazard has endured a frustrating 2015-16 season thus far and is yet to score in 24 appearances for the Blues, as they have made an appalling start to the season.

After their loss to Leicester, Chelsea sit in 16th place in the Premier League, just one point above the relegation zone.

Mourinho: Top-four is out the window for Chelsea

    2400482_heroa.jpg

Jose Mourinho has written off Chelsea's chances of making the Champions League next season after suffering another painful defeat.

The Premier League champions were downed 2-1 by the year's surprise package Leicester City, their ninth defeat in 16 games.

And the manager appeared resigned to missing out on the top-four.

"Yes, clearly yes," he told Sky Sports when asked if the chance to reach the Champions League qualification spots had evaporated.

Chelsea currently lie 16th in the Premier League, just one point clear of the relegation zone as the competition approaches the halfway stage.

Fourth-placed Manchester United sit on 29 points, 14 clear of the misfiring Londoners.

:shocked:Mourinho: I have been BETRAYED by my Chelsea players

    jose-mourinho-cropped_1h1uthqm0eipb11lmz4y4l41r8.jpg

Jose Mourinho admits he feels "betrayed" by his Chelsea players following their 2-1 defeat to Leicester City.

Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez fired Claudio Ranieri's side ahead and, despite Loic Remy's 77th-minute header, the defending champions were unable to salvage a point

And after the defeat, the Chelsea boss suggested his team are not following his instructions to an acceptable level and claims they overachieved by winning the title last season.

"We conceded two goals that are unacceptable for me. I know one of my best qualities is to read the game for my players, to identify every detail about the opponent," Mourinho told Sky Sports.

"I feel that my work was betrayed. It's difficult for us to score goals when you have players who are not in their best level. When you have some players, especially in crucial positions, it's difficult.

"It's hard. All last season I did phenomenal work and I brought them to a level that is more than they really are."

Mourinho: Premier League title was down to MY phenomenal work

    2404512_heroa.jpg

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has insisted he deserved most of the credit for last season's title, saying that the final position flattered his players.

The Blues have come tumbling back down to earth since lifting the Premier League in May, and lie 16th after yet another defeat, this time to Leicester City.

And speaking after the game, the 'Special One' affirmed that without him that win would have been impossible.

"When you have some players in crucial positions not playing at a normal level it is difficult," he told Sky Sports.

"It's hard. Last season I did phenomenal work and I took them to a level that is not their level.

"It's not all of them, but clearly for some of them it is more difficult."

Despite his assertions that the current squad lack the quality to fight for the title, Mourinho admitted that the matchday performances were not a fair reflection of what goes on during the week.

"I don't know any way other than working at the top level and that's what I do every day," he said.

"In training I have no complaints with the players. There is a difference between training and matches."

"I have to be honest, in training they work well."

'He's been sleeping all season' - Costa slammed for criticising Chelsea team-mates

    2404152_heroa.jpg

Diego Costa has been accused of "sleeping all season" after the striker was caught heavily criticising his Chelsea team-mates in Monday's 2-1 defeat to Leicester City.

Following Jamie Vardy's opener in the first half, television replays showed the Chelsea striker berating his team-mates and accusing them of falling asleep.

    byn4LGH.jpg

“There’s nothing worse than a player coming back and telling other people what they should be doing, considering he’s been sleeping all season,” former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher told Sky Sports.

"He's done nothing really for Chelsea this season considering what he did last year."

Riyad Mahrez struck after the break to fire Leicester City to the top of the Premier League, while the loss was Chelsea's ninth of the season and they remain a point above the relegation zone.

No one can buy Vardy or Mahrez - Ranieri

Claudio Ranieri insists no team will be able to prise Jamie Vardy or Riyad Mahrez away from Leicester City in January.

The England international scored his 15th top-flight goal of the season in the 2-1 victory over Chelsea, with his Algerian team-mate adding their second in impressive fashion to take his tally to 11.

Such impressive displays are likely to increase interest in the pair when the transfer window opens next month, but the Italian is adamant that neither will be leaving the club.

"No one can buy Vardy or Mahrez in January. They don't have the money and they don't have a price," he said.

"Why should I name a price? If I say this high, somebody might add one, so no, I will not do that. But nobody can buy them.

'Mahrez is doing things only Messi can achieve'

    1915942_heroa.jpg

Riyad Mahrez’s skills this season have been on par with Lionel Messi, according to former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher.

The Algeria international dazzled once again as his goal and assist fired Leicester City to a 2-1 victory over Chelsea, and to top spot in the Premier League.

Mahrez now has 11 goals and seven assists in the Premier League this season and Carragher insists the 24-year-old will be attracting interest from Europe’s top clubs with his displays this term.

“Mahrez is doing things with that left foot that I have only seen Messi do,” Carragher told Sky Sports.

“[Cesar] Azpilicueta was one of the best defenders in the League last season and he could not handle him. Mahrez is playing so well that top clubs in Europe will be looking at him.

"It's important that they [Leicester] keep their players in January. People might come in for Vardy and Mahrez, but if the players are smart they will stay where they are.

“They are playing great football, the club's got momentum and if they get into the top four it would be an incredible story.”

    Mourinho rules out January buys

    2403962_heroa.jpg

Jose Mourinho insists he will not look to spend money in the January transfer window, despite Chelsea languishing in 16th place in the Premier League.

The Blues lost their ninth game of the season at Leicester City on Monday, with goals from Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez condemning them to a dismal 2-1 defeat.

Mourinho’s men subsequently sit just a point above the relegation zone ahead of a clash with Sunderland this weekend, but Mourinho maintains he will not look to strengthen his squad when the opportunity arises in the New Year.

“I don’t think it is right I go to the board and say these players are not good and we need to spend 50 or 100 or whatever,” he told Chelsea’s official website.

“We have these players and it is with these players we have to go, and the players that are not performing well must feel attacked in their pride, in their self-esteem and they have to do everything to get results in a humble way.”

Lucas wants to stay at PSG despite Premier League reports

    lucasmoura-cropped_1t6bip1q6c0721r8s58gnd73di.jpg

Paris Saint-Germain winger Lucas Moura said he has "never thought" about leaving the French club. The Brazilian has attracted interest from several big clubs, with some reports suggesting he is set to make a move to the Premier League.

Lucas was purchased by PSG for €40million and arrived at the club in January 2013, and he has scored 19 goals in over 130 appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit.
He has helped the club to three straight league titles, just as many Trophee des Champions, two Coupe de la Ligues, and one Coupe de France.

The 23-year-old said he is flattered by the interest from other clubs but claimed he cannot see himself leaving the Parc des Princes any time soon.

"I am pleased with the interest of big clubs in me - if it is true it shows that they are watching me and happy with my football," Brazil international Lucas told SporTV.
"But my head is focused on PSG, I never thought of leaving here and I want to achieve my goals here."However, Lucas did say a move to the Premier League could be a possibility if he was no longer enjoying life in Paris.

"In football, you don't even know about tomorrow," he said. "The Premier League is the strongest league and if tomorrow or later an opportunity comes and I'm not happy here, of course I'll have a think about it."

Valdano: There is a disconnect between Madrid manager and players

    realmadrid-cropped_8tl0pbs93tfv1navtkcfkuy1b.jpg

Former Real Madrid general manager Jorge Valdano said the club are paying the price for the "disconnect" between the coach and players.

Madrid suffered a 1-0 loss to Villarreal in La Liga on Sunday, a result that cost the capital club the chance to capitalise on Barcelona's draw at home to Deportivo La Coruna.

A win would have seen Rafael Benitez's side move to within two points of champions Barca, who surrendered a two-goal lead as they drew 2-2 on Saturday.

Valdano criticised Benitez and the players, claiming the side showed "weak spirit" in the first-half against Villarreal."There was a drop of collective intensity from the first minute," Valdano said on Cadena Ser programme El Larguero.

"It's inexplicable what happened in the first half, especially after seeing the second part. Madrid had the opportunity to move within two points and they lost in the first-half with a team with weak spirit.

"In the first half Madrid acted with an unbecoming mediocrity."The former Argentina international, who was part of the side that won the 1986 World Cup, also spoke about the "complex" situation in the dressing room.

"At Madrid you cannot train the same way Villarreal does," he said. "It's much more complex than that."Madrid are paying the price of having a disconnect between the manager and players."

Full transcript: Mourinho lays into Chelsea players after Leicester loss

    jose-mourinho-cropped_1h1uthqm0eipb11lmz4y4l41r8.jpg

After Chelsea were beaten for the ninth time in the Premier League this season at Leicester City on Monday, Jose Mourinho gave a frank interview to Sky Sports.

He admitted that several of his players are not playing as well as they should be, revealed Eden Hazard took the decision upon himself to come off with a hip injury and conceded the top four is no longer within Chelsea's grasp this season.

Here is the full transcript from the Portuguese coach's interview.

Interviewer: It was a difficult night, what are your thoughts? Mourinho: I think [Leicester] deserved to win because they were better than us during a longer period of time. I think we were the best team for 20-25 minutes, they were the best team for an hour.

They were very consistent, very focused, not making mistakes, aggressive with everyody, high tempo, great mentality - it was difficult for us.

Then we concede two goals that are unacceptable for me. I know my best quality is to read the opponents for my players and to identify every detail and these two goals - with the movement of [Jamie] Vardy between the two central defenders and then [Riyad] Mahrez one-against-one when I want one-against-two - are difficult to accept.

I feel my work was betrayed. Then we scored a goal with 15 minutes to go, but it was almost five because of the ballboys, the injuries, the ball disappearing and all this stuff. It's not nice, but they did it very well.

It's difficult for us to score goals when [Chelsea's players] are not at their best level, it's obvious, everyboy knows that. When you have some players in crucial positions not playing at a normal level, it is difficult.

Interviewer: Was it hard to watch?

Mourinho: Yeah, it was hard. All last season I did phenomenal work and I took them to a level that is not their level. It's more than they really are. It’s not all of them, of course, but clearly for some of them it is more difficult [to repeat those levels of performance].

Interviewer: What happened with the Hazard injury?

Mourinho: The only thing I know is in 10 seconds he made the decision himself. It must be a serious injury as he made the decision himself and just left the pitch.

It must be something important. His first reaction was ‘I can’t’ but then he wanted to try. Then he said he couldn’t do it and it was him in a few seconds that had three different perspectives. He is injured, clearly.

I don’t have time to understand what the injury was during the game, now I will have time to understand. Clearly he tried, but he felt immediately he couldn’t carry on.

    Interviewer: Your changes helped.

Mourinho: I always try to help, [my changes] helped, but it wasn't enough. We took off John [Terry], kept [Kurt] Zouma and Azpi [Cesar Azpilicueta] for the [Leicester] counter-attacks, because of their pace.

We put on an extra midfield player, then an extra striker, because clearly Diego [Costa] is in trouble in the box. Normally his movement is outside the box, so I tried to bring [Loic] Remy in to have another body there.

Interviewer: What do you try now?

Mourinho: I don’t know any way than working at the top level - and that’s what I do every day. I have to be honest and say day-by-day in training I have no complaints with the players.

There is a difference between training and matches, clearly yes. I have to be honest with them, but in training they work well. I enjoy training with them because they want to work.

Interviewer: Is the top four gone now?

    Mourinho: Yes, clearly yes.

Chelsea target Teixeira could cost £36 million - Lucescu

    2362552_heroa.jpg

Chelsea target Alex Teixeira could cost more than £35 million to sign next summer, according to his Shakhtar Donetsk boss Mircea Lucescu.

Attacking midfielder Teixeira, 25, has scored 26 goals in as many games this season, and claims Shakhtar have receieved proposals from Chelsea, Juventus and PSG to sign him.

But Lucescu believes the Brazilian is already worth close to £30m and says he would cost close to the reported £44m PSG paid Manchester United for Angel Di Maria, were he playing in a more competitive league.

"Alex is now worth more than €40m (£29m)," the Romanian said.

"I think at the end of the season, were he to continue his performance, his value is €50m (£36.3m)."

"If he were playing in a more competitive league, his transfer would be at the same level as that of Di Maria."

Teixeira has no preference as to which club he joins but admits playing in England is his dream.

"It's my dream [to go to England]," Teixeira told Lance last month.

"I've spoken to many people who have the desire to play in the Premier League, because I think it's the best in the world, more contested, and I want to have this challenge in my career.

"I'm glad to have received that proposal from Chelsea, they're a great club in Europe, but my manager will deal with that.

"What I've seen, and what my manager has said, is that Chelsea, Juventus and PSG made offers. But Chelsea and Juventus are deeper into negotiations.

"They're three big clubs. Wherever I go, I'll be happy."

Lewandowski happy with Bayern Munich stay amid Real Madrid links

    2375752_heroa.jpg

Robert Lewandowski is happy at Bayern Munich, despite being linked with a move to Real Madrid, Goal understands.

The Poland international, whose contract runs until 2019, has scored 23 goals in all competitions this season.

Several reports have claimed that Madrid are keen on making Lewandowski their marquee signing next summer but a source close to the player has confirmed that the striker is happy to remain with Bayern.

Publicly, the German champions appear to be unmoved by Madrid’s reported interest in their star striker and claim that he could even be open to extending his current deal.

"I can imagine Real Madrid is interested in Lewandowski. But it's pointless. He has a contract running three and a half years. I can imagine as well Robert will stay even longer," Bayern’s CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told Bild.

"One look at the expiry date of his contract and I am not worried a bit."

Silvestre: Giggs key to Martial development

    anthonymartial-cropped_1k0b0s3cgvcwh1jbits09o4nu1.jpg

Manchester United assistant Ryan Giggs can help Anthony Martial develop into a world class striker at Old Trafford, according to Mikael Silvestre.

Martial was a surprise deadline day buy for United on a four-year deal, the 19-year-old plucked from Monaco where he had scored 12 goals in all competitions during the 2014-15 campaign. After a goal on his debut against Liverpool, Martial netted another three in as many games and looked to be an inspired acquisition by Louis van Gaal.

He has struggled since, though, with only two goals in his last 15 appearances and none in the league since a double against Southampton on September 20.

"I didn't know him [Martial] much," Silvestre told Onmisport. "I discovered him straight away. I saw that he had the potential to be at the top.

"We will see long term. At a club like Manchester United, there are expectations. At some point, he will start to feel the pressure. He will improve and then people will not forgive him if he doesn't score in two or three games in a row.

"I think that Ryan will have a good relationship with Anthony to help him improve.
"Even though Ryan was a winger, he played with strikers. He knows their attitudes, their movements, he knows how to read the game. "He will have the words and the will to build a good relationship with Anthony to help him improve."

‘Mourinho was RIGHT to dig out his underperforming Chelsea players’

    2372102_heroa.jpg

Jose Mourinho was right to call out his many underperforming Chelsea players after losing to Leicester City - because the fans are thinking the same thing, according to club legend Clive Walker.

The Blues were beaten 2-1 at the King Power Stadium on Monday night, seen off by goals from Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez, and remain in 16th place, one point above the relegation zone and 20 behind the table-topping Foxes.

Mourinho was in a bullish mood afterwards, even claiming his players had "betrayed" him, and Walker - who made 198 league outings for Chelsea over eight years - feels the same way.

"It is his job to get the best out of the players," he told Goal. "You have heard him say on many occasions that hard work on the training ground will get you out of trouble eventually and that goes for players at the top as well as the bottom of the table.

"He needs to question his players' commitment because Chelsea are underperforming and, frankly, the fans want to hear him reassure them that he will ask these difficult questions. They are thinking the same things themselves."

Despite Chelsea's many struggles this season, Walker is still convinced that Mourinho is the right man for the job and has urged Roman Abramovich to choose stability over a knee-jerk decision.

"One of the things Chelsea has not had over the past decade, despite a large amount of success, is that we have not had a manager who has stayed more than a couple of seasons," he continued.

"Stability is what the fans want. Look at what happened to Gary Monk at Swansea. He has had a lot of relative success there but as soon as things get difficult, they get rid of him. It was a knee-jerk reaction and I still think it would be if Chelsea dispensed with Jose's services.
"I thought at the start of the season he was the right man for the job and I still do. Jose is a big name in football. Ask anyone in Europe and that is still the case.

"Chelsea cannot expect to get anyone with a better track record, not just his three titles at the club, but what he achieved at Porto, Inter Milan and, to a lesser extent, Real Madrid.

"My gut feeling is that Roman Abramovich knows that Jose will turn it around. If he thought otherwise he would have acted before now. He is not one to let sentiment stand in the way of making tough decisions.

"What is encouraging is that Jose has not turned his back on the club because the going is tough. He probably knows he will not get a third crack at Chelsea and despite all his success at the club, to leave now would cast a shadow."

All Chelsea players need to improve - Remy

    loicremy-cropped_163e96jd3fyao1947o9fhs8nsf.jpg

Loic Remy says the Chelsea players are baffled by their awful Premier League run, but accepts they need to improve or face a season-long battle at the wrong end of the table.

Remy came off the bench to score in Monday's 2-1 defeat at leaders Leicester City – after which Jose Mourinho accused his Chelsea squad of "betraying his work".And while the France international conceded the performance at the King Power Stadium was not good enough, he struggled to find an answer behind the champions' struggles.

"We are disappointed because of the loss, but also because we need to play much better to win a game," Remy said on Chelsea's official website.

"It's difficult to pick one or two players who were better than any others. All the team need to improve; we need to be ready and play better.

"We have to try to be more compact, not make any mistakes and score goals, that's the main thing. We have to improve otherwise we will stay near the bottom of the table and Chelsea are not in the right position."We know the situation. As Chelsea players we all need to improve and fight in every game.

"The manager makes his decision and picks 11 players. Whoever is playing tries to give their best and it's the same for the substitutes, but at the moment it's not enough and I don't know why."The defeat left Chelsea 16th in the Premier League, just a point above the relegation zone.

Next up is a crunch clash with fellow strugglers Sunderland."Nobody believes it because we were champions last year," Remy added. "The season is long and we have time to get better, I really believe that will happen soon. We have to try to win games.

"The situation is really tough but as a group we have enough quality to come back. We need one or two wins to get our confidence back and I'm sure we will do that in the coming game."
