Mourinho's departure is bad for the Premier League, says Pellegrini

    manuel-pellegrini-and-jose-mourinho_1wa8p8i9opqhq1x4ftkqwhkgiz.jpg

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini says Jose Mourinho's departure from Chelsea is a bad thing for the Premier League.

Seven months after guiding Chelsea to the Premier League title, the Portuguese coach left the club by mutual consent on Thursday following a woeful start to the 2015-16 season.

Pellegrini admitted he did not always see eye to eye with Mourinho, but appreciates the qualities he brought to the top flight.

"Maybe in some ways it's difficult to understand, the manager who won two titles last season to lose their job," Pellegrini told reporters."It's very difficult to have the same motivation in the season after you've won two trophies.

"It's a difficult situation. The Premier League has lost an important manager. Maybe I disagree with him on a lot of things but he's not my enemy. It's a bad thing for the Premier League."It's not for me to miss him but the Premier League will miss him. The Premier league is better with Mourinho.

"I manage the team in a very different way to the way he does but that doesn't mean he's not a good manager or important for the league."

Chelsea will improve without Mourinho, says Blanc

    laurent-blanc-jose-mourinho-cropped_1ss35zjjxwwro1fm5i42a2qqho.jpg

Laurent Blanc expects Chelsea to improve following the departure of manager Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho was relieved of his duties on Thursday just seven months after winning the Premier League, following a dismal run of results which has left Chelsea just a point above the bottom three.

Chelsea will face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League last 16 early next year and head coach Blanc says the Blues will likely become a more difficult opponent now that Mourinho has left.

"Jose Mourinho's exit will bring differences and Chelsea will improve," he said ahead of PSG's trip to face Caen.

"Will it change the face of Chelsea? I don't know. You can never know. I'll see who the new cocah is, if I know him, and what his philosophy is.

"It will be interesting to follow. There will certainly be differences."

The Ligue 1 leaders head into Saturday's game - their last before the mid-season break - with a 17-point lead at the top off the back of 15 wins and three draws from their 18 matches so far.

A win will see PSG break Lyon's record of 50 points set at the halfway stage of the 2006-07 season, and Blanc hopes to see his players fired up to make history - though he was eager to praise the efforts of fourth-placed Caen so far.

"It'll be a good thing if it adds extra motivation," he said. "We've prepared the match to win it. With respect for Caen and their coach, who I know very well and does excellent work. The ambition is to take three points and break that record.

"If they're there, they deserve their points. Caen and Angers, it's perhaps been a championship beyond their expectations. It's also perhaps because other teams aren't having the championship they should be.

"Our philosophy has not changed but the players are more effective. We've scored 60 in 26 games. That's still not bad. We've let in 10. That's not bad either."

Blanc also confirmed that both Edinson Cavani and Javier Pastore are fighting minor injury problems ahead of the game.

"We've nothing serious," he added. "We've got some minor injuries but nothing alarming. Javier, we'll have to see if the pain in his adductor disappears completely. Edi took a blow to his calf against Lyon."

Hiddink 'absolutely perfect' for Chelsea - Wilkins

    guus-hiddink-netherlands-spain-friendly-03312015_u3qrdjvij6c619pa2xxd1vlkl.jpg

Guus Hiddink would be "absolutely perfect" as an interim manager at Chelsea, according to former midfielder Ray Wilkins.

The former Netherlands head coach has confirmed he is in discussions over a possible deal to take charge of the Premier League champions following Thursday's sacking of Jose Mourinho.

And Wilkins, who ended his most recent spell with Chelsea's backroom staff in 2010, believes Hiddink is the ideal man to restore dressing-room harmony between now and the end of the season."As an interim manager, he would love the challenge, I'm sure," he told talkSPORT.

"He would be the one person I would say would be absolutely perfect to come in to the end of the season and straighten them out."

Wilkins went on to hail Mourinho's efforts at Chelsea, despite the dismal defence of their Premier League title this term, and says the squad must shoulder some of the responsibility.

"I love Jose and he's done a fantastic job for Chelsea. He'll go elsewhere and do a wonderful job for someone," he said.

"I honestly do believe the players need to take a lot of blame for this as well because they really haven't performed. The only player that's performed on any sort of consistent level is Willian.

"With the ball, more often than not there's no problem. But without the ball they've not done half as much as they should have done. They've not worked hard enough."Chelsea face consecutive home games against Sunderland and Watford next and Wilkins says victories from both are vital.

"There's got to be six points there," he added. "Sunderland aren't in the best form, they're struggling a bit, and to go the Bridge after this has happened is probably the worst place they could possibly go."

Ancelotti set to replace Guardiola as Bayern Munich coach

    1923242_heroa.jpg

Carlo Ancelotti is set to succeed Pep Guardiola as Bayern Munich coach at the end of the season, Goal has learned.

The Italian has been out of work since being sacked as Real Madrid boss earlier this year, but is now poised to return to management with the Bundesliga champions.

Guardiola will not be renewing his contract that expires in June and is expected to announce after Saturday’s match against Hannover that he will depart at the end of the campaign.

If the talks progress as planned, an announcement from Bayern that Ancelotti will be in charge for the 2016-17 season will arrive once there is official confirmation that Guardiola is leaving.

The Spaniard is understood to be in negotiations to take over from Manuel Pellegrini at Manchester City for the start of next term.

Ancelotti, who is expected to pen a three-year contract with Bayern, has enjoyed a hugely successful coaching career to date, winning three Champions League titles as well as league championships in Italy, England and France.

The 56-year-old has managed a string of Europe’s top clubs, including Juventus, Milan, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and, most recently, Real Madrid who he led to La Decima in 2014.

Klopp: Mourinho sacking a sad situation

    jurgen-klopp-jose-mourinho-chelsea-liverpool-premier-league_dzchobwfpgd61rszuc4bkwck5.jpg

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has described Jose Mourinho's departure from Chelsea as "a sad situation".

Mourinho was given his marching orders on Thursday on the back of a ninth defeat in just 16 Premier League games so far this season.

Having experienced a similarly dramatic loss of form at Borussia Dortmund, Klopp expressed his sympathy for the Portuguese but believes he will benefit from some time away from management."It is a sad situation that such a successful relationship between Mourinho and Chelsea ends like this," Klopp told reporters.

"I wish Jose all the best. It is good to have a bit of rest as he has worked constantly for many years at a high level.

"Sometimes football is like this, but I do not know why I should talk about Chelsea. I had a similar situation at Dortmund and it is tough to be so far away from expectations."Klopp insisted his opinion of English football has not been diminished by the regularity of managers losing their jobs.

"No," he said. "All the teams have real quality players because of the money.
"That is why the results are really close. That is what makes the league so interesting. You all have to be fully concentrating. There are only a few moments you can really enjoy each season. "You can win everywhere, but you can lose everywhere as well."

Beckham: Mourinho at Man Utd? Don't even mention it

    beckham-cropped_925qqeumw2va182b5vzxjie5n.jpg

David Beckham hopes to see Jose Mourinho back in the Premier League as soon as possible, but stopped short of tipping him for a move to Manchester United.

Chelsea parted company with the 52-year-old manager on Thursday after a disastrous start to their title defence saw them lose nine of their first 16 games to leave them just one point clear of the bottom three.

Beckham wants to see Mourinho remain in England when he takes his next job, but felt it would be disrespectful to comment on suggestions he could be ideal as United's next coach, given Louis van Gaal is still in employment at Old Trafford.

"It would be disrespectful for me to even mention it because Manchester United have got a manager and that is the way it will continue until people decide otherwise," the former England midfielder said.

"Unfortunately this is how football is, but there is no disputing that Jose is one of the best managers in football."Winning the league last year [with Chelsea], virtually the same squad this year – it is obviously surprising to see their league position. But I love Jose, I think he is an incredible manager, a great person and he is passionate about the game.

"I hope he comes back to the Premiership quickly because the English public love him, the fans love seeing him on the sideline and they love his character, so it is a shame to see him leave.

"But Chelsea are a great club so they will move on quickly I am sure. Roman [Abramovich] is passionate about the team so they will move on pretty quickly."

Norwich must give Man United problems - Neil

    alex-neil-cropped_1l8skh3osei79120esgnsmpg2j.jpg

Alex Neil wants Norwich City to pose as many problems as possible at Manchester United on Saturday.

Norwich are without a win in four in the top flight and face a United side who, aside from their penalty shootout defeat to Middlesbrough in the League Cup, have yet to lose at Old Trafford this season.

Louis van Gaal's side have nevertheless been beset by injuries in recent weeks and are without a win in five games in all competitions, and Neil has called on his players to go out with plenty of belief that they can cause an upset.

"It's going to be tough. They haven't lost a home league game all season, so it's going to be a tough game," he told Norwich City TV on Friday.

"They've got good quality players - they've also got a lot of injuries. Ultimately though, we've got to worry about ourselves. We have to pose as many problems as we can.

"We've equipped ourselves pretty well against the bigger teams away from home and this game should be no different. "If we can perform as well as we can and hopefully take that grit and determination we had against Everton, then hopefully that will give us a good chance."

Neil later confirmed at a media conference that goalkeeper John Ruddy will be in the squad despite facing an internal investigation over an alleged altercation outside a nightclub.

"John Ruddy at the moment is under an internal investigation from the club to find out exactly what happened," Neil explained. "That is basically as much as I can say on that until it is concluded."John has not been found guilty or not guilty. The investigation continues so John is a normal member of the squad. That doesn't have any effect at the moment.

"In terms of disciplinary action we will have to wait and see what the investigation brings. There is no time frame on this at the moment but hopefully it will be concluded as quickly as we can.

"These players are in the public eye so you have to make sure you are on your best behaviour at all times. You are representing the club, but they are only human as well and everyone has a tolerance level.

"The bottom line is you have to rise above it. Their actions will have direct consequences. They know I can't babysit them."

Neymar's future to be resolved soon - Bartomeu

    neymar_2ig41pjkfns21kgivbdujybba.jpg

Neymar 's future at Barcelona will all be sorted out soon, club president Josep Maria Bartomeu has confirmed.

A new contract for the Manchester United target has long been on the agenda without any significant progress, with the Brazilian's haul of 16 goals in 18 games this season seeing him touted as the answer to the Red Devils' problems in attack. But Bartomeu is confident that they will soon reach an agreement over a deal which the Ballon d'Or nominee deserves.

"I've been talking with his father in the last few days but what Barca have done is to move things forward and call Neymar, recognising that we pay him less than he deserves and offering to start speaking about updating his contract," the official added.

"I'm convinced that in the next few months we'll reach an agreement with Neymar. He represents the future of Barca, and it's not just me who says that."

The official also confirmed Luis Enrique has expressed his desire to reinforce their forward line in January given the injuries already suffered by star duo Lionel Messi and Neymar this season, with a move for Celta's Nolito touted.

Though the Catalans remain on course to defend their La Liga, Copa del Rey and Champions League titles this season, Bartomeu opened the door to a new name in attack during the winter transfer window, although any deal would initially be on loan."The coach and the technical staff want a striker. If he comes it will be a loan deal with a right to buy," he told Sport.

Barcelona's transfer ban – imposed following irregularities in the signings of youngsters – will also expire next January, meaning Arda Turan and Aleix Vidal will at last be clear to make their club debuts.

And having the chance to see the impact the duo will have excites Bartomeu, who stated: "We'll also have Arda Turan and Vidal coming in, who are two great>

:yes:If Man Utd have ONE chance for Guardiola, they MUST take it - Ferdinand

    pep-guardiola-cropped_3tjpfgwc0pzj175nkfizr1ga8.jpg

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand says his old club must act quickly to appoint Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola the moment he becomes available. The coach is out of contract at the end of the season at Allianz Arena and will clarify his future plans after this weekend's Bundesliga match against Hannover.

Chelsea and Manchester City have been heavily linked with an approach for Guardiola, but Ferdinand does not want United – who recently crashed out of the Champions League in the group stages under Louis van Gaal – to miss out on a manager he thinks is the best in the world.

"The thing with Manchester United is that he will go to one Premier League team and won't be going to another [after that]," he told The Guardian."There is one chance – you have one chance to get him. He won't go to Manchester City and then to United; he is not going to go to Chelsea and then United.

"It won't happen, so you have got one chance to get the best manager on the planet. Is Guardiola better than what they have got? That is what United and City should be asking. If the answer is yes then you go for it, surely.

"It is like with the best players in the world – if someone like Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi becomes available, everyone is interested. I don't think it is different with a great manager. "The best manager in the world is definitely Guardiola and when he becomes available people are going to be interested, and I think United are no different."

Ferdinand believes the United job is still hugely attractive despite the club's failure to win a trophy since Alex Ferguson's retirement in 2013."Every manager on the planet, probably bar the man at Manchester City, would love the Man United job," said the former England international.

"It is a huge job. Especially now, it is a job where, if you go in and do well, you will be seen as a hero – someone who has turned it around. "It is a tantalising job. It is a job where you could create something with legacy. That is what Pep Guardiola likes to do, but he has got options.

"People talk about Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal. It is not going to be easy."
Former Barcelona boss Guardiola, 44, has won five league titles and two Champions League crowns since his first-team managerial career started in 2008.

Pellegrini: I don't feel pressure over Guardiola links

    manuel-pellegrini_5jvf4n2kgsz81gcvu0nf204re.jpg

Manuel Pellegrini insists he does not feel troubled by speculation suggesting Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola could replace him at Manchester City next term.
Guardiola has entered the final year of his contract in Germany and Goal understands Carlo Ancelotti is in advanced talks to take over next season.

The ex-Barcelona coach has stated he will make a decision on his future public before Christmas, with speculation mounting that he is eyeing a move to the Premier League.City have been strongly linked with Guardiola for some time but Pellegrini claims he is unpertubed by reports he is likely to be replaced.

"I think Pep is one of the best coaches in the world so if he doesn't continue at Bayern, maybe a lot of teams can try to have him manage their team," the Chilean told reporters.

"In my case, I don't have any pressure about that. Maybe there are a lot of rumours - not only this season but going back to the other seasons - but the only pressure I feel is the pressure I put on myself to win.

"When you have experience and manage so many big clubs you know with every result that is not the result the club wants, the media will start with different rumours about different things, but if you are worried about that it's impossible to work in a big team."

City are third in the Premier League table and remain favourites to win the title and Pellegrini acknowledged that returning the trophy to the Etihad Stadium would make him more difficult to dismiss.

"If I finish this season winning the Premier League, and in three years winning two Premier Leagues with one runner-up, that is very important," the 62-year-old added."If something is not considered important I can't be arguing with different media. I'm very happy about my career and my work.

"I would not be happy if I don't win silverware this season but all the other things I cannot be thinking about. Everyone can have their opinions.

"You're going to have good performances, bad performances, you'll be criticised, receive praise - different things - but you can't be too concerned about those things."I cannot talk about what other people want to manage the club. Every owner has the right to see what is the best future for their club.

"It's not my problem because I don't think for them. My thinking is to try to win and continue in a job where I am happy. After that it's not my decision."

:DVan Gaal fears Man Utd sacking

    louisvangaal-cropped_1fno1j84l8s5l1s72phgwaxpk6.jpg

Louis van Gaal is desperate to overturn Manchester United's torrid form to avoid seeing his career at Old Trafford terminated prematurely.

United have not won any of their last five games and failed to qualify for the Champions League round of 16, leaving many questioning Van Gaal's future at the club.

Pep Guardiola, Carlo Ancelotti and now Jose Mourinho, who was relieved of his duties as Chelsea manager on Thursday, have all been linked with the top job at Old Trafford."I don't want to finish my career with the club sacking me," Van Gaal told reporters.

"That would be a great disappointment for me to say goodbye to the football world by being fired."I think my honour is much more pressure for me than the pressure of the media and the fans."

Still, the 64-year-old Van Gaal does not believe this is the most pressure he has been under in his managerial career, and feels he has enough stock to warrant the Old Trafford side sticking with him.

"What can I lose? If I lose the confidence of the fans, that would be very sad," added the Dutchman. "But I have had a career that every starting trainer wants to have. I don't think that the pressure is now the highest.

"When you start in your first job and the crowd is yelling every week for another coach and that happened to me in my first year at Ajax than that pressure compared to the guy I am now is much higher.""I have the full confidence of my board and players, that is what I feel. But we have to get results, we have to win. We know that, the players know that, I know that and members of staff know that."

Van Gaal's United take on Norwich City on Saturday hoping to end a run of consecutive defeats in all competitions.
