It is not good as people commented on glassdoor and other places.

I got an offer and asked one of my friends who used to work there, according to him,
    • most of the positions are contract basis
    • office experience depends on the client and most clients are not pleasant to work with
    • there is a lot of political drama going on and people got fired due to political reasons

True,,not as good as they are advertised. Poddak unprofessional recruiting teams ehema. Specially the heads / seniors of TA are cunning buggers (M**/ Man**)...They literally tell anything that comes to their mind as facts.

Also I know for a fact that they could not afford a somewhat decent package..not too much, just a little high, but well within the average pay scales . even that was offered by lowering basics, adding pegged amounts etc to match,,,which was a terrible approach..

Work culture depends on the client...even your increments, pay and all depend on the client... Gapstars do nothing except the TA and HR part..if the client doesn't want you anymore, you are done. Simple as that.

The next thing to add to the list of ridiculous things about gapstars is their plans to relocate to Portugal..They are planning to offer the employees to relocate to portugal, but they are giving only your current salary you're receiving here in SL... and the amounts in general are way less than average SE salaries in Portugal (given the cost of living in Lisbon - mind that lisbon is currently a top ranked tourist destination.) - Imagine renting out apartments which costs about 200k in LKR + groceries + travelling costs and all..you can save much more here in SL. )

If you want to migrate, apply direct to those companies...don't go through agencies like this  - Their sole intention is to retain the people are who are planning to migrate to better countries due to the current crisis here in SL).

If you have anything to ask, ask me. I have many contacts who are working there - and I'm well aware of their internal news

Final thought is that Gapstars is basically a recruiting company. Not a tech company 🙂

Can someone suggest a few good companies which pay a decent salary with a good culture? Even startups are also fine.

one of the best work cultures and salaries are pegged

yeah, good for those who joined before the peg..

i know a couple of people who joined just before the peg was introduced (with a good take home amount)..and it got pegged later, making a good final amount

Not so good for new joiners though...they can't afford any decent salaries  If you are a low-salaried guy, then its good to join..I mean there are so many such people around...

if you have a good salary already, then their offers may look somewhat ridiculous :baffled: Also in terms of job security, if you are joining a well eshtablished client, then you are somewhat safe. I know they have clients who are just couple of months old..even the management doesn't know how long the projects would last, or whether they would stay with them for any longer

the work culture seems good because the company is essentially a collection of small companies (clients)..kinda isolated...so, less problems...

This is true. It's hard to say Gapstars are like this and that because almost everything depends on your client. If you have a good client who you work closely then being employed by Gapstars means very little.

I had lots of friends who worked there and almost everyone had a different experience.

Their TA team is horrible lol

Reason is, that's what they get paid for. if they get you interested that means they get money lol. So they do all the shenanigans to make you apply.

Salaries and everything depends on the project and there isn't much that Gapstars can do. There are good clients who look for good talent and willing to pay well and of course there are cheap clients who look to get shit done for the least amount of money.

That's also true for this Portugal thing it seems. Because one of my friends got offered a salary that's good by even Portuguese standards and as he said it was way above his sri lankan salary.

What's your friend's designation? I don't believe they pay above the scale unless there's a very specific reason to do so.

Ex: say a really good, important employee trying to migrate / already got an offer, then they would counter offer. If not no.

I know because i have close connections..but its true this all depends on the client. They can't do so much. However they got to keep their profits as well.

agreed. Gapstars is not a professional company like others. they would like to recruit devlopers as a contract basis. after your contract is ended you doom.
by the way do you have any idea about a company called: Wiley? this is a startup right?

There is no unified "they" in Gapstars. How much you get paid depends on the client's budget. Gapstars has very little say in that.

As i mentioned earlier, how much you get paid and even what they offer when migrating depends on the client.

I have friends from both good and bad projects. So i know how drastically different pay scales exist within the same company. All of them are above TL level.

Really? I said there is no common salary scale or work environment as they are basically an HR company. So just because you did not get a good offer does not mean that's the case for all the clients.

Of course they make profit on a percentage basis so what does it has to do with the topic? They don't decide how much an employee get paid.

Which part is not clear for you?

Dude i don't even live in Sri Lanka let alone work for them

You are just upset that you applied for a shitty project and they offered you a shitty salary lol. How do you know that they don't pay above scale? Just because you were not offered it that doesn't mean that level of pay does not exist.

    Why so butt hurt?

And i'm not upset  it just looks ridiculous to me...

I didn't recommend it to anyone. HR is the worst one. I faced an interview & they didn't know how to speak with the candidate. Unprofessional. I m talking about the SL HR team. Before they recruit, They said they are offering Pegged salaries, explained the other companies' situations and talked a lot of unnecessary things about different companies. They are trying to wash our brains.

I said basically the same thing as @NEMISIS and you are like no it's not possible for anyone to get paid above average because you got turned down

Yes in your case they probably didn't had the budget but that's the entire point. Budget depends on the client not Gasptars

I don't even recommend Gapstars to anyone for fucks sake

    X-gapstars? Webgurus

Nope. My last employer in Sri Lanka was WSO2.

Those bullshit happen in every company. Teamwork activities, Halloween parties, Secret Santa, Gameshows, Parties etc. All I need was money not these brainwashing bullshit. All I said to HR was Cut the cost of these 🐂💩 and Increase the salary. 🤷
