The Sri Lankan government has requested the public to conserve electricity as much as possible as the continuing drought in catchment areas has seriously affected hydropower generation.
The hydropower generation capacity has dropped below 14 percent due to the lack of rains in the upper catchment areas of the hill country.
Power and Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka has urged not only the public, but offices as well as trading establishments to limit electricity consumption.
However, the Minister has assured that uninterrupted electricity supply will be provided using thermal power plants.
