Are there techniques used for reducing heat in general designs?

Just a thought.
I can't see staircase railings (this is a safety concern if you have a child). Also make sure there are small gaps between rails (upstairs). I can see stairs (other than main staircase) , for adults and children this may be a difficulty. Even for us, in the morning (sleepy) we may miss the stairs while walking .
