Help getting a VGA card, processor and mobo

Yup..the price for a GeForce 8000 series Asus PCI Express card of 300+ MB is about 40,000..My jaw nearly hit the floor when the guy in the Asus Center told me..I already have a Asus Geforce 6900 card which I bought for Rs. 8000...32,000 more just for an upgraded graphic card ?

But It seems that the Asus Center prices in MC are ridiculous.. they have an Asus casing for 15,000 where in other places the same thing can be bought for 4500...

You dont need an 8000 series just for graphic designing... a 7000 series will be more than enough (Ithey are much cheaper and aare excellent cards)..You only need the 8000 series to play Advance games ..even in games, the more demanding ones like Oblivion, Crisis, ect.

Buy an Asus 7000 series form any shop in Unity Palza..very cheap..

This is the scene machan. I went to Asus bamba to get the 8800GTS 320MB and they said they don't have it and won't import them anymore! . My jaw hit the floor penetrating to the underground when they said they only have the 8800GTX 768MB and it is Rs.80,000 !

I ended up buying the mobo(P5N32-SLI) and processor(E6600) from them that cost me Rs. 57,000. I'm thinking of getting the 8800GTS from abroad. Newegg has it for $280, but they don't ship internationally.

I haven't bought the other parts yet because of the unavailability of the 8800GTS here. I might get a 7000 card and use it until the prices of the 8800 come down, then sell it off and buy the 8800. Or better yet wait for the 9000 series card that'll be released in November(hmm... I don't think I can wait that long ). Looks like the best deal is to get it from abroad. EVGA has lifetime warranty so nothing to worry about

I'm not a hardcore gamer but I when I do play a game that requires a DirectX 10 card, I don't want to be regretted that I bought a card inferior to which the game demands. Besides the 8000 is twice the speed of the 7000 and the G80 chip is so advance compared to the earlier chips. So when you compare price vs performance ratio it's reasonable I guess.

Did you hear that DX10.1 might not be supported in the current DX10 cards? I'd say wait for them (G92 and R700) and go for a 7600 or maybe even a 8600/HD2600 range card for now, if you can afford.

Yes I heard. I read somewhere that it requires a hardware change for DX10.1 which I think Nvidia or game developers would care less to support it. I don't know why would Microsoft release 10.1 when DX10 isn't even implemented properly.
But the real problem is PCI-E 2.0 Which I assume you have heard about. The future cards(DX10.1+) would support PCI-E 2.0 which means you need to have a mobo that supports it. But the good news is that it's backward compatible so you can use PCI-E 2.0 cards on the mobos we have right now. The G80 almost a year old still unavailable and unaffordable here, how long do you think the G92 cards would arrive here and imagine how much it would cost

If this is the case, DX10 will be outdated pretty soon. No game developer can move to DX10 based games if only 8800GTS and HD2900 upwards can play them. Most probably, the develpoers that haven't moved into DX10 game development, may switch to DX10.1 straightaway, if it comes up good. We'll just have to wait and see. If this happens, we will see 8800 and HD2900 series cards extincting from the market very soon. Then the prices of G92 cards will carry the same price tag of G80's launch price. Still that is pretty heavy, but this is the best we can expect.

I prefer DX11 all the way for myself.DX11 due in 2009 means Game developers will not look in more of 10 and 10.1.Huge chance they just keep on with 9.oc then few to 10.x and go 11.But the + factor is if 10.1 and 11 hit soon we will get less prices for 10 and after 10.1 cards.

Actually there is no difference between the 320 and 640(see here) at all except the memory size. Unless you're playing games on a 22" LCD or higher you really don't need 640MB of memory. I think there's nothing wrong with the 8800GTS 320M version, but the drivers. I heard that Nvidia drivers suck and some even made the cards stop working!

So the mid-range 9000 series cards would hit the shelves in the 2nd quarter of next year I guess. I wonder how much power it needs.
Hmm, I think the G92 would have a better power/heat management than the G80 because of the 65nm chip.

I know but I don't have anyone overseas... that's the problem
Even if I do know anyone, it's risky buying expensive stuff for the fact that you have to send it back if it ain't working.

BTW, Intel has announced 50% price cuts on their quad core chips that are now around $250. And here the mid-range core 2 duos are over $400
