    Hey elakiriyans,

We are a small team building a tech product and our MVP is almost ready. One area we are honestly not very strong at is content creation, especially short form content like TikToks, YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels.

We spoke to a few social media agencies and most of them quoted around LKR 200,000 per month for about 10 videos. We also checked with individual freelancers and they quoted around LKR 6,000 to 10,000 per video.

Because of this, we are wondering whether it makes more sense to hire interns instead of outsourcing everything. The idea is to maybe bring in two or three interns such as one video editor, one content writer and possibly a graphic designer, and manage things in house.

I wanted to get some opinions from the u guys on this.

From your experience, is hiring interns a better option at an early stage compared to agencies or freelancers?

What are the hidden challenges of working with interns in this kind of role, especially for social media content?

Also, what is the legal side of hiring interns in Sri Lanka? Things like contracts, allowances, EPF ETF, working hours, and leave policies...etc.

Any advice, experiences, or things we should watch out for would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance

I have no experience here, but I too think you will be doing most of the work if you get interns to do it. Most probably they will need clear directions of what they have to do and probably you will get exhausted.

when using freelances, make sure they understand what they are trying to promote/sell. else again you will have a mismatch. They need to basically least operate closely to your wave length. We had such a experience trying to get a logo designed.
