    Hi everyone,

I’m currently considering a hybrid work setup at an IT company based in Colombo, but I live in Kandy. I’d like to hear from those who have experience with this kind of arrangement.
    • How manageable is the travel on office days?
    • Does it affect your work-life balance or productivity?
Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks in advance!

Rent a place or a room in Colombo for the days you have to be in Colombo. Otherwise it's gonna be a pain in the ass specially with the traffic situation. I did something similar with 2 days a week for 6 months and it was miserable

how many days, if you take the 5.15am or so train you'd be in colombo by 7.15 or so. the 5.15pm train, kandy by 7.30pm. if it's 1 day i think managable, if not better rent or stay in a cheap room one night.

depends on the company, i also was told to come 2 days per week and i haven't gone to the office in 4 5 weeks now.

Depending on how frequently you need to go to the office and how do u planning to travel, it should be manageable if it's just one or two days per week. I had a similar work setup where I had to travel from Matara to Colombo 2-3 days per week. It was manageable, though somewhat challenging at the start. I used to travel by highway buses, and I could sleep or get some work done during the time.

This is such a bullshit. The amount of time WFH is going to save is incomparable. No wasting time on traveling. No pointless time wasting meetings. And speaking of mental health WFH is the best thing happened to me. Don't be a corporate slave by falling into the trap of outings, work friends and parties where you are forced to go to an office. You work and get paid, nothing more, nothing less. Your colleagues are not your friends.

Find hobbies that complement your interests. You can be outdoor person as much as you want, you can meet all the people you want without crawling into an office. There are plenty of outdoor activities to do in Kandy. And never forget gym.
