What you're saying is true upto a certain extent Athula.
People do tend to forget about others who did good to them.

But people remembers forever about the people who did something bad to them.
That's the human nature albeit it being wrong!

And yes. According to what you believe everything maybe 'anithya' even you and your propaganda is like that.

But that's no reason to stop enjoying or celebrating a great victory of a 3 decade war. People do feel the freedom after it. And they know people won't die like before, and they know they can go anywhere safely now (I don't think Sri Lanka is 100% free from terrorism yet. But that's just me.)

And also, why did Arjuna lose his respect? Because of his bad behaviour and politics.

Same for Mahinda and Army officers too. People will not respect them and will eventually forget about them if they behave in a bad manner irrespective of the victories they achieved.

Anyway people tend to forget irrespective of the race and origin.
But the respect will always live in the back of their minds of real Sri Lankans, forever!

    Good Luck Bad Luck!

    There is a Chinese story
of a farmer who used an old horse
    to till his fields.
    One day,
the horse escaped into the hills
    and when the farmer's neighbors
sympathized with the old man over his bad luck,
    the farmer replied,
"Bad luck? Good luck? Who knows?"

A week later, the horse returned with a herd of horses
from the hills and this time the neighbors congratulated the farmer
    on his good luck.
    His reply was,
"Good luck? Bad luck? Who knows?"

    Then,
when the farmer's son was attempting to tame one of the wild horses,
he fell off its back and broke his leg.
Everyone thought this very bad luck.
Not the farmer, whose only reaction was,
"Bad luck? Good luck? Who knows?"

    Some weeks later,
the army marched into the village
and conscripted every able-bodied youth they found there.
When they saw the farmer's son with his broken leg,
    they let him off.
Now was that good luck or bad luck?
    Who knows?

    Story goes on....

    Everything that seems
on the surface to be an evil
may be a good in disguise.

    And everything
that seems good on the surface
    may really be really evil.

    Now soldiers have become unimportant.
    Anithya

No one seem to read this special thread.
A Great Historical Speech for the Soldiers who sacrificed their lives for freedom.

    In that speech
    AbrahamLincoln gives so much importance
to the lives sacrificed in war.

Just be aware of the fate of that thread.

    I think
the respect people had for Army
    will diminish very fast.
    Army was important to many
because they were afraid of LTTE.
    Now war is over,
    LTTE is over.
    Till another war comes up
Army is not an important topic to them.
    I knew that
    it is not permanent
    when they were attacking me
    with all the filth.
    They were shouting for themselves,
    not for the Army.
