How to stop video audio autoplay in firefox?

Some web pages have ads and content as videos that auto play. (Youtube etc)

So when you go to that page, the video is automatically downloaded (streamed in) and when there is sufficient data buffered, it begins to play .

If you really don't want to see that particular video, it is just a waste of bandwidth eating up your data plan

How to stop this auto downloading / streaming in and playing of videos in firefox?

Solutions for other browsers too would be helpful.
