if you are messed with icons then use this setting..
Control Panel>>System>>Advanced>>Performance Setting
Under Visual Effects tab, there's a setting called "Use Drop Shadow for Icon Labels on the Desktop"
if it's disabled... put a tick

also check your display colour depth
if it's 16bit or lower then changed it to 32bit
