LCD screens figured prominently in many of the clutches and oversize totes the designer developed for the collection of clothing and accessories she showed during Japan Fashion Week.

Emphasizing the "Japanese-ness" of her clothing line, Tokyo designer Miki ignored recommendations that she use Western models.

The dress and handbag in this Miki ensemble reflect the designer's affinity for combining the traditional with the contemporary.

Educated in the U.S., Miki has worked as a computer graphics creator and kimono designer. Both experiences continue to inspire her clothing and accessory designs.

First staged two years ago to promote Japanese-made clothing--including Miki's gadget-adorned accessories--Japan Fashion Week is funded in part by the designers who show at the event and by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
