The JHU this morning paid tribute to Russia for supporting Sri Lanka in defeating terrorism by going in a procession to the Russian embassy in Sri Lanka. If you are a terrorist the 1st lesson in your terrorist hand book would be "DO NOT TAKE RUSSIAN HOSTAGE"

I dont get this...

The post says that the priests went to pay tribute for participating in a rally to promote peace which headed to the Russian embassy, my question is, why would Russians themselves take part in such a rally which went towards the Russian ambassy?

And what great act of honour did (anyone) they do by participating and aiding a procession (Even if they did so) that was worth to be presented with a souvenior and all this appraisal?

Can some one who knows the story answer the question please
