It was 1975 June 7, First match of First ODI Cricket World Cup where England met India at Lords. England hammered India by getting 334/4 on the board at the end of 60 overs. Then Indian's Opening pair Sunil Gavaskar & Eknath Solkar came to chase down that huge target and eventually they were playing like Night Watchmans. At the end of 60 overs India were 132/3 and Opener Sunil Gavaskar was not out 36 off 174 balls (Oops ?) with just one single boundary scored in his inns.
At end of match GS Ramchand, India's manager said that "It was the most disgraceful and selfish performance I have ever seen… his excuse [to me] was, the wicket was too slow to play shots but that was a stupid thing to say after England had scored 334".
38 Years Later, The one who was playing like a night watchman has now became a so called great commentator/Analyst, repeatedly criticized over the promotion of Nuwan Kulasekara who has already proven so many times that he is a good pinch-hitter on face tracks in ENG/SA/AUS, in a match where SL in a must win situation at the ICC Champions trophy 2013. And not stopping criticizing the decision to promote, calling Kulasekara a Night Watchman, has learnt a big lesson at the end. Nuwan Kulasekara is arguably highly under rated batsmen and also a highly under rated pinch-hitter at the moment. Sunil Gavaskar, better you learn to respect players and their skills first before issuing "pora talks". I know you were a great player on your time, but if you want continue your Commentator carrier, please be polite to appreciate players and don't under estimate their skills more importantly.
Moral of the story -
Don't under estimate anyone
Don't be hurry to make predictions
