1. “MakeIT”
“MakeIT” is an Inter School Software Competition, organized by the Association of Computer Engineering Students of the University of Peradeniya.
The aim of the competition is to get innovative ideas from school children of all around the country under the theme ‘Innovative Software for National Development’.
As the first step, the participants will send their proposals. Those proposals will be evaluated by the staff members of Department of Computer Engineering, University of Peradeniya and the selected groups will be asked to develop their software. Final evaluation of the software will be performed with the help of industry personnel.
Our main objective is to give school children an opportunity to show their talents and show the world what they can do. The participants will be able to expose themselves to the latest technologies in the IT sector and also they can identify their talents and make themselves ready for their future career.
“MakeIT” will be one of the few software competitions which targets only the youth crowd at the school level. We hope that this programme will assist its target group in enhancing their technical skills as well as the communication skills and personality, which are essential within any professional setup.
2. OBJECTIVES
1. Explore the innovative ideas of the school children all over the country and make them contribute to the National Development.
2. Give them an opportunity to show their talents to the relevant industries.
3. Expose them to the latest technologies in the IT sector and help them to develop their technical skills as well as the communication skills and their personality.
4. Inspire them about Computer Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya.
3. PROGRAMME DETAILS
1. The participants (school students) are expected to send their ideas under the theme ‘Innovative Software for National Development’ as proposals.
2. There can be individual proposals as well as groups, which can contain up to a maximum of 4 members.
3. Those proposals will be evaluated by the staff members of Department of Computer Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya and ten teams will be selected for the final round.
4. The selected teams will implement their software within two months and the final evaluation will be performed by Department staff members and industry representatives.
5. Then all the teams and some other students will be invited to the faculty for one day workshop which contains technical workshops as well as some events which help them to develop their soft skills. Awards will be presented at the end of the day.
6. Closing date for proposals : 13th November 2009
7. Submission of the software : 12th February 2010
8. Award presentation : 2nd April 2010
