The news "Prabhakaran's Diary found" - Far beyond the truth
18 Jun 2009 - 13:40
The first page news published by a leading news paper 0n 17th June 2009 stating the recovery of the personnel Diary of Prabhakaran in a passenger bus at the Gunasinghepura bus station - Colombo on last 14th was far beyond the truth. The News was published in the Sinhala and English News Papers issued by the particular news paper publishers. SL Army vehemently rejects the accuracy of the news and the Media Center for National Security who possess the sole authority regarding the Defence News also have informed the respective News paper Publishers about the inaccuracy of the news under the above headline. But it is disappointing about their failure to correct that bogus news yet.
The Media Center for National Security assures with responsibility that the diary recovered in a passenger bus at the Gunasinghepura bus stand was not the LTTE leader Prabhakaran's personnel Diary, but it was a Diary belong to the LTTE organization.
It's a great responsibility of a News Paper to present precise News to the public. It's a duty of a responsible publication to check the accuracy of news, especially before publishing a news item pertain to the field of Defence. Otherwise this type of forged news may misguide the readers all over the country and that will affect the national security. The Media personals who engaged as the reporters of Defence News should more concentrate on the precision of the news that hit on the headlines. So we consider that it's a responsibility of the particular news paper publishers to correct the above news as we have already shown them.
