The Ministry of Highways has decided to launch a special investigation into the incident where a bridge collapsed in the Kohombaladeniya area in Narawala along the Southern Expressway.
Minister T. B. Ekanayake stated that a special investigation team had already been sent to the area and the report would be obtained within two days.
Investigations will also focus on whether a technical fault had taken place during construction.
The minister also noted that investigations would focus on the planning process of the bridge and the earth that had been used in its construction.
Investigations are in progress under the guidance of the Director of the Southern Highway.
A youth was killed while another injured after the bridge collapsed around 8.30 last night. The body of the victim was unearthed this morning.
The person who sustained injuries was admitted to Karapitiya Teaching Hospital.May 27, 2009
