Now the company has followed up with the equally radical JBL Encounter 2.1, which is shaped like a pair of bug-eyed aliens and a Buck Rogers spaceship.
The Encounter's sci-fi styling should boost sales among buyers who purchase speakers online or off the shelf without first hearing how they sound. But the system has much more to offer than Spielbergian aesthetics. It doesn't quite match the clarity, detail, and lifelike midrange of the less-expensive Altec Lansing MX5020or the Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 2.0 (our most recent Editors' Choice among value-priced speaker systems). But it is a bit louder than either of these two-piece competitors, and its bass unit produces output that extends more than an octave deeper.
Actually who's Darth Vader?
