October 09, 2010 (Sri Lanka Cricket): Spin wizard, Muttiah Muralitharan, said today that he will retire from international cricket at the end of the upcoming ICC World Cup.
Muralitharan made the announcement speaking at a function at the Velammal Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Chennai where he was felicitated for his world record haul of 800 Test wickets.
"I have decided to play in the Australian tour and the World Cup, and after the World Cup I will retire totally from international cricket," the world record holder for the most Test and ODI wickets, said.
Muralitharan retired from Test cricket in July this year picking up a wicket in his final delivery of his career to become the only man with 800 Test wickets.
