They were slow to get to the moon. Russians did it half the time I guess. Unfortunately it crashed. Sad if anyone's scientific projects fail.

Many were laughing here that this mission has no gains. They are sadly mistaken. There are two main gains. One is the spinoff products from the space projects. Check how much technological improvements came off from NASA developments. You would be surprised.

The other is the Global launch industry. ISRO's SSLV rocket is a low-cost solution to launch satellites weighing up to 500 kg into low-earth orbit. When people develop trust in ISRO launchings, they can tap into the booming market to launch clusters of satellites for communications and data that SpaceX and rivals now serve. Don't just think in a narrow band. There are hidden gains that come into play later.
It's not like selling tickets to the Lotus Tower.
