The 1996 SF match was a shame for India as it turned out to be an ugly affair at the end.
I still remember that game very well...India had got both the openers out very cheaply...SL were 1 for 2 wickets and that was the best start any team would have got against the Sri Lankan team that was ruling the game in that World Cup.
But, as you said, Aravinda De Silva played a wonderful innings to put SL into a commanding position.
India though did start off well...they were 98 for 1 when Sachin got out and later the score read 120/8!!
Glass bottles were thrown at the Sri Lankan players, I think it was Chaminda Vaas who got hurt because he was the one at the boundary line bearing the crowd's wrath for the dismal performance of India while chasing. Then, Vinod Kambli's emotional outburst...well it was surely a forgettable day for Indian cricket!
