Sri Lanka to hand over newly built international cricket grounds to ICC
Jan 20, Colombo: Sri Lanka was to hand over three international cricket stadiums to ICC officials today for the World Cup.
These three stadiums are situated in Kettarama in Colombo, Pallekele in Kandy and Sooriyawewa in Hambanthota. These well-equipped cricket grounds have space for 35,000 spectators each.
Sri Lanka country director for World Cup Suraj Dandeniya said that the construction and renovation work of all three esplanades are now complete.
Sri Lanka spent Rs. three billion for the cricket grounds and the expenses are to be covered by the income from the World Cup cricket matches.
Sri Lanka will host 12 matches including one semi-final. The first match is to be played in the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium in Sooriyawewa on February 20.
