firoz85 said:Well when you put it like that , i have to agree. But having said that ethnically speaking there are realistically only 2 ethnic languages spoken here. The muslims dont speak arabic and dont really have an identity associated to it and most burghers and muslims speak sinhala.
your right about about a one nationality group being rep by one anthem but seeing some reactions here to just the suggestion of the idea says quite a lot !
most burghers and muslims speak sinhala.

its not about being stupid and fighting bloody 30+ years for a patch of land![]()
its about respect and we did NOT and will NOT respect EELAM tamils and either they'll have to live with it or will have to eat cyanide lorries we dont freaking care
muslims, burgers and all others including sinhala people know their place in a multi ethnic country there was MUSLIM SINHALA clashes BUT never a WAR!
get your intelligent brain to understand that, anthems, flags are not defined. They are declared you cant change them according to your needs, even though the majority wanted it just stays there when the "authorities" controling it decides to change it,
We all sri lankans who resided at the country in war time, why would now bow down and freaking change the anthem?? Did we fight a war and win it at every cost for the anthem or the flag??
Countries have their own policies fight with them if you want your fight will live long and die short, just like prabhakaran. Dont ever challenge a country, because a country is always larger than a single community living in it, if other ethinic societies dont care about it WTF is it with tamils?? if they know how to sing it well sing it ..otherwise dont who cares??

sudunone said:You are right-Muslim brothers don't really speak arabic-I just quoted that because they the 3rd biggest group, numbers-wise.
But there are Chinese people, German people etc. who have chosen to live in Sri Lanka. We can't go around picking up on every racial group and make a national anthem.
My point is, we should have only one anthem that represents us all. Having different versions only separates us more and lead to more disharmony. At a meeting, what are we going to sing? Two or three national anthems? Or choose according to the majority group at the meeting?
What if one of our sportsmen/women win an Olympic event? They sing the national anthem after the award ceremony. What are we going to sing at international events?
Yes, and that's one factor which made them mix so well with the Sinhalese and helped their businesses.![]()
And 60% of the Tamils live among us Sinhalese-the majority of them also can converse in Sinhalese. I don't see why the Tamils should resist the idea of learning Sinhalese when they very happily learn English or French when they migrate-the main language of their adoptive countries. Obviously, they don't learn the minority languages of those countries. Neither do they demand Tamil national anthems or all government documents to be in Tamil even when they form a major portion of the population in those countries. Or to have their children educated in Tamil.
"Equal rights" have a different meaning when you are in the Western countries??
